  • ASP.NET MVC 2 RC2 Model Binding with NVARCHAR NOT NULL column

    I have a database column defined as NVARCHAR(1000) NOT NULL DEFAULT(N'') - in other words, a non-nullable text column with a default value of blank. I have a model class generated by the Linq-to-SQL Classes designer, which correctly identifies the property as not nullable. I have a TextAreaFor in my view for that property. I'm using UpdateModel in my controller to fetch the value from the form and populate the model object. If I view the web page and leave the text area blank, UpdateModel insists on setting the property to NULL instead of empty string. (Even if I set the value to blank in code prior to calling UpdateModel, it still overwrites that with NULL). Which, of course, causes the subsequent database update to fail. I could check all such properties for NULL after calling UpdateModel, but that seems ridiculous - surely there must be a better way? Please don't tell me I need a custom model binder for such a simple scenario...!

    Hi, I got control with strongly typed View, with Ajax.BeginForm(). Now I would like to change submit method from <input type="submit" id="testClick" value="Submit" /> To some javascript method DoSubmit(). What I tried is : Invoke click on that submit button Invoke submit on form ('form1').submit(), document.forms['form1'].submit() jQuery forms with ('form1').AjaxSubmit(); Create jQuery AJAX $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: $("#form1").attr("action"), data: $("#form1").serialize(), success: function() { alert("epic win!!!1!1!") }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert("epic fail!") } }); All those method created normal request (not AJAX), or they didn't work. So anyone know how I can do AJAX submit "Form", from JavaScript and strongly typed mechanism (public AcrionResult MyFormAction(FormModel model); ) will work?

    Hey Guys, I am wondering if anyone can shed some lights on the situation. I am about to start a project and trying to figure out what solution is best to go with asp.net or java jsp pages I have personally worked alot with .net and am really happy with the framework and Visual studio as IDE I find it easy to work with and there is a massive community support behind .net, i can get alot done quickly I have not every written anything use java jsp, there will be a learning curve here , so my experience is limited here. however after seeing jira i am very impressed with its capabilities, it has changed alot since the old days ( java 1.2 ) that i used to work with, and the fact that it runs under linux is a huge plus, so i am trying to decide is the learning curve, worth the price ? so given the situation above what would you recommended?     I got a web deyploment project for a web application project in vs 2008. While building the web deployment project, I want to replace properties in the web.config. My settings are autogenrated by the deisgner. <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>True</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> In the config file which contains the settings for the specific server looks like the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>False</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> Sadly, this does not work. I get an error "The format of a configSource file must be an element containing the name of the section" that highlights the second line (2nd example code). How must the Tag be named in order to make evertything work? Edit: Deleting the "applicationSetting"-Tags does not work either.

    Hello, I have a service which has a method that's called when a certain controller method is triggered. My service returns a custom result object PlacementResult in which I want to communicate errors that may have happened (validation) back to the controller method. Should PlacementResult have a ModelState or a ModelStateDictionary to communicate errors back to the controller (and finally view)? How would I string this together? Finally, how do I get the ModelState/ModelStateDictionary (whichever you tell me I should choose) back into the view (highlighting the appropriate text box, show the error message etc.)? Thank you !

  • Providing or Filtering assemblies when registering areas for an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 application

    I have a large application that currently exists as a hybrid of WebForms and MVC 2.0. Startup of my application is dreadful, and the culprit is primarily because of the AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas call. More specifically, that it is using the System.Web. Compilation.BuildManager.GetReferencedAssemblies to enumerate all types in assemblies directly referenced by the application and test them to see if they derive from AreaRegistration. Unfortunately, I have a number of third-party assemblies that happen to be quite extensive, so this initial load can be pretty bad. I'd have much better results if I could tell it which assemblies to look for AreaRegistrations, or even register areas manually for the time being. I can gather up all the internals of AreaRegistration to create and invoke the registration, but I'm just curious if others have had and worked around this issue.

    I have 2 very similar routes, just because i'm trying to generate two different URLs for the same resource (same Controller/Action), and both are very similar. These are the routes definitions: routes.MapRoute("Post2.Mp3", "sites/{siteSlug}/post/{brand}/aconstant-{slug}.mp3", new { controller = "Posts", action = "Mp3" }, new { siteSlug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+", slug = @"[^(aconstant\-)][A-Za-z0-9-_]+", brand = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+" }); routes.MapRoute("Post.Mp3", "sites/{siteSlug}/post/{slug}.mp3", new { controller = "Posts", action = "Mp3" }, new { siteSlug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+", slug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+" }); "brand" is going to be my site name, which is the same as "aconstant" in those routes. Now, if I try this: Url.Action("ShowMp3", "Posts", new { siteSlug = post.Site.Slug, slug = post.Slug, origin = "origfeedwithaudio", brand = "aconstant" }) sometimes I get the URL I expect: /sites/site-Name/post/aconstant/aconstant-post-Name.mp3 but sometimes, I get this: /sites/site-Name/post/post-Name.mp3?brand=aconstant By sometimes, I mean that different sets of "slugs" give me one or the other. I haven't seen the same set of slugs give me different URLs. I haven't found any reasonable rule for when i'm getting one or the other, it seems random. What is going on here? How can I be getting different URLs based on esentially the same arguments? Thanks! Daniel

  • ASP with Crystal Report 9 hangs on .NET framework 3.5

    We have an ASP (not ASP.NET) application running on Windows 2003 server. One of the functions of the application is to generate reports using Crystal Report 9. It has been working without any problem with .NET Framework 2.0 and now it is required to install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on the server but after we installed the 3.5 SP1, every time we run the application the Crystal report is not generated and the web page hangs so we have to recycle the application pool in IIS to get the application back going. Does anyone have any idea/solution to this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciate.

I've tried using MvcContrib.TestHelper; here is my sample test...     In this question I am looking for links/code to handle an IList<OrderLine> in an MVC 2 edit form. Specifically I am interested in sending a complete order to the client, then posting the edited order back to an object (to persist) using: Html.EditorFor(m = m.orderlines[i]) (where orderlines is an enumerable object) Editing an Order that has multiple order lines (two tables, Order and OrderLine, one to many) is apparently difficult. Is there any links/examples/patterns out there to advise how to create this form that edits an entity and related entities in a single form (in C# MVC 2)? The IList is really throwing me for a loop. Should I have it there (while still having one form to edit one order)? How could you use the server side factory to create a blank OrderLine in the form while not posting the entire form back to the server? I am hoping we don't treat the individual order lines with individual save buttons, deletes, etc. (for example, they may open an order, delete all the lines, then click cancel, which shouldn't have altered the order itself in either the repository nor the database.     Is it possible to utilize MVC 2 from MonoDevelop 2.2 (using Mono 2.4)? If so - is it as simple as grabbing a reference to the new System.Web.Mvc or is there something else to consider? I realize that any templating support in MonoDevelop may not be 100% there since it was built to utilize MVC v1 (at least as of MonoDevelop 2.2). If anyone can add any other tips or tricks that would help as well.

    I have a partial view which renders a table. On page load, I am using JQuery to perform Zebra Stripping on it. Whenever ajax refreshes the table, DOM elements are updated, but since JQuery code to do the Zebra Stripping is not executed; table looks ugly. I have tried adding Javascript in my partial view if( Request.IsAjaxRequest() ) return PartialView( "AdministrationGrid", Users ); but javascript is not executed. I guess the only way to execute the Javascript as reply is to do: return JavaScript( "alert( '' )" ); Anyone with an idea how can I achieve this? I thought about JQuery Live, but it is used to bind itself to events.

  • Realtime progress of AJAX call (asp.net)

    Hi... I'm trying to make a progress bar that updates the user on the progress of the AJAX call. My immediate thinking was that I need an AJAX call to start a thread on the server, allowing the starting AJAX call to finish, and allowing the thread to send updates back to the user. For the purpose of simplicity, disregard the actual progress bar functionality (I was thinking of implementing one of those JS bars, with fancy colors and effects ;), but if I can get an update from the thread, then updating a simple JS progress bar becomes trivial ;) ) I just need a few pointers on how to accomplish this, if anyone could oblige me? ;)

  • How to get all active parameters in ASP.NET MVC (2)

    Hi! I was wondering whether there is a way to create an ActionLink or similar, that changes only a few parameters of the actual query, and keeps all the other parameters intact. For example if I'm on an URL like http://example.com/Posts/Index?Page=5&OrderBy=Name&OrderDesc=True I want to change only the Page, or OrderBy parameter and keep all other parameters the same, even those I don't yet know of (like when I want to add a Search parameter or something similar too). The header of my current action looks like this: public ActionResult Index(int? Page, string OrderBy, bool? Desc) and I'm only interested in the values that this controller "eats". I want however that when I extend this action (for example with a string Search parameter) the links should work the same way as before. Here is what I did already: Create a new RouteValueDictionary and fill it with everything from RouteData.Values Problem: This only fills the parameters that are used in the Routing, so all other optional parameters (like Page) to the controller are lost Add everything from HttpContext.Request.QueryString to the previous dictionary This is what I am currently using Problem: It might have some junk stuff, that the Controller didn`t ask for, and it doesn't work if the page was loaded using POST. You also don't have any ModelBindings (but this isn't much of a problem, because we are re-sending everything anyway) Use HttpContext.Request.Params Problem: this has too much junk data which imho one shouldn't add to a RouteValueDictionary that is passed to an ActionLink So the questions: Is there an RVD that has all the data that was passed to the Controller and was used by it? Is this solution good, or are there any caveats I didn't think about (mainly in the context of changing a few query parameters while keeping the others intact)? Is there a way to filter out the "junk" data from the Params object?

    I have a form which a user can fill in x times with the data they want too. The form is posted to the following Action. DataToAdd = ProdServ.EditProductOption(DataToAdd); ViewData["Message"] = "Option Changes Made"; }else { //Add DataToAdd = ProdServ.AddProductOption(DataToAdd); ViewData["Message"] = "New Option Added"; } var RetModel = new ProductOptionModel() {ProductID = DataToAdd.ProductID}; return View(RetModel); } So at the bottom I blank the model (Leaving just the required field) and then return to the view. However the view holds the data from the previously submitted form. Any ideas why? I have debugged the code and checked that the RetModel variable is empty.

    I'm having a problem getting a controller method that returns a JsonResult to accept parameters passed via the JQuery getJSON method. The code I’m working on works fine when the second parameter ("data") of the getJSON method call is null. But when I attempt to pass in a value there, it seems as if the controller method never even gets called. In this example case, I just want to use an integer. The getJSON call that works fine looks like this: $.getJSON(”/News/ListNewsJson/”, null, ListNews_OnReturn); The controller method is like this: public JsonResult ListNewsJson(int? id) { … return Json(toReturn); } By putting a breakpoint in the ListNewsJson method, I see that this method gets called when the data parameter of getJSON is null, but when I replace it with value, such as, say, 3: $.getJSON(”/News/ListNewsJson/”, 3, ListNews_OnReturn); … the controller method/breakpoint is never hit. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I should also mention that the controller method works fine if I manually go to the address via my browser ("/News/ListNewsJson/3").
