• MSDN Subscription Site Down?

  I am not sure that this is an SO worthy question. (At least it is not like ones I normally ask.) But I can't get my MSDN Subscription to work any more. Is anyone else having this issue? When I log in and select "My Account" I get this: and when I try to download I get this: I have asked other developers that I know and it is broken for them too. But before I go digging into this, it would be nice to know if this is a me/us issue or an everyone issue. Also, if I am breaking the rules by posting this here let me know and I will delete it.   Can anyone, please, explain to me how to transform a phrase like "I want to buy some milk" into MD5? I read Wikipedia article on MD5, but the explanation given there is beyond my comprehension: "MD5 processes a variable-length message into a fixed-length output of 128 bits. The input message is broken up into chunks of 512-bit blocks (sixteen 32-bit little endian integers)" "sixteen 32-bit little endian integers" is already hard for me. I checked the article on little endians and didn't understand a bit. However, the examples of some phrases and their MD5 hashes are very nice: MD5("The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog") = 9e107d9d372bb6826bd81d3542a419d6 MD5("The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.") = e4d909c290d0fb1ca068ffaddf22cbd0 Can anyone, please, explain to me how this MD5 algorithm works on some very simple example? And also, perhaps you know some software or a code that would transform phrases into their MD5. If yes, please, let me know.

  I have 4 tables that need to scroll, they are set up as follows: Table1(static) Table2(Horizontal Scrolling) Table3(Vertical Scrolling) Table4(Horizontal and Vertical Scrolling) Table1 Table2 Table3 Table4 The tricky part of this is that Table 3 and 4 need to keep in sync as this is a listing of data broken out into two tables. • Dump characters (glyphs) from TrueType font (TTF) into bitmaps

  I have a custom TrueType font (TTF) that consists of a bunch of icons, which I'd like to render as individual bitmaps (GIF, PNG, whatever) for use on the Web. You'd think this is a simple task, but apparently not? There is a huge slew of TTF-related software here: http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/ttsoftware.html But it's all varying levels of "not quite what I want", broken links and/or hard to impossible to compile on a modern Ubuntu box -- eg. dumpglyphs (C++) and ttfgif (C) both fail to compile due to obscure missing dependencies. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am using Django ORM in my python script in a decoupled fashion i.e. it's not running in context of a normal Django Project. I am also using the multi processing module. And different process in turn are making queries. The process ran successfully for an hr and exited with this message "IOError: [Errno 32] Broken pipe" Upon futhur diagnosis and debugging this error pops up when I call save() on the model instance. • How do I setup a custom Gem.path using JRuby::Rack?

  Hi Nick et al, I've been having some fun looking at to source code of JRuby-Rack and Rubygems to try to figure out how to solve a org.jruby.rack.RackInitializationException: no such file to load -- compass in my rackup script cased by require 'compass'. I'm passing in a custom 'gem.path' as a servlet init parameter and it is being correctly picked up by jruby-rack as far as I can tell by debugging in my rackup script: ENV['GEM_PATH'] => '/foo/lib/.jruby/gems' (expected) but rubygems seems to be broken: Gem.path => file:/foo/lib/jruby-complete-1.4.0.jar!/META-INF/jruby.home/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 I'm not sure why rubygems has not adjusted it's gem_path nor the LOAD_PATH, thus breaking require? Thanks again, I'm still a newbie at ruby, jruby, rack and sinatra. Any pointers in the right direction appreciated! Ben

If you want, you can describe your co-workers' reaction, how bad your hospital bill was after showing them the code, if you felt disappointed in yourself for coming up with it or proud of yourself for coming up with a creative and clever solution. This doesn't have to be shipped code, this could also be code written for personal purposes.

Are you missing references to Microsoft.CSharp.dll and System.Core.dll? C:\Source\DotNet\SqlSmoke\SqlSmoke\UserControls\ScriptUserControl.cs 84 73 SqlSmoke However, when I downgraded the app from version 4.0 of the framework to 3.5 (because our users only hae 3.5 and don't have rights to install 4.0). when I did this, the reference to "Microsoft.CSharp" was broken. Can I rewrite the VB.NET command in C# using syntax that is valid in C# 3.5 as I was able to in VB.NET? What would the syntax be?

• Has there been a Firefox update recently?

  Trying again to ask a PROGRAMMING question because of the over-zealous closing off of what is equally a programming question before allowing the poster to clarify. The latest version of Firefox (v3.6.3) is breaking websites, mine included. I make heavy use of the Infragistic NetAdvantage controls. These, because of their heavy JavaScript reliance and occasional lack of quality control, tend to suffer through browser updates sometimes requiring a hotfix. So the question is... has there been a Firefox release recently that has either introduced a bug, tightening up of some standard, bug fix which might have broken a previous workaround (often the case) etc? I'm guessing around JavaScript but that's a guess hence the reason for asking a group of programmers...

  Looking for a date and datetime picker that will integrate fairly seamlessly with Rails. I'm sure some people must be using something similar. I have tried the unobtrusive date picker plugin but it breaks with the latest release of Rails. calendar date select plugin uses prototype which I have removed from my app and don't want to add back. active calendar plugin - broken with latest Rails and hacked to fix but doesn't fill out the text fields when a model is loaded. • Dynamics AX 2009 Report: LabelPosition above does not work?

  I'm just in the process of changing the SalesInvoice Report. One thing I'm trying to do is show the label of some items not left of the item value but above it instead. Seems easy enough: just change the LabelPosition (for example from CustInvoiceJour_InvoiceId) setting from "left" to "above" and voila: the label has vanished. It is just shown nowhere at all. Strange. I would have expected the label to show up, well, above the content. Not to vanish. Am I missing something (there is no label height to set), or is this functionality broken?

• Code Formatter: cleaning up horribly formatted jsp code

  So I am working on a jsp/servlet that came to me and I'm looking at the jsp file and it is just a jungle of jstl tags, java code and html thrown together. At first it looked like someone ran the standard eclipse formatter on it and had the page width set to 40 so alot of stuff is broken up, I tried to format it with a larger page width but that seemed to make it worse to the point of not being able to tell what is going on without formatting parts of it first. Anyone have any luck with any jsp/code formatter?

  I'm using Tomcat 6, and this is my logging.properties: handlers = org.apache.juli.FileHandler, java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler .level=FINE org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF org.apache.juli.FileHandler.level = ALL org.apache.juli.FileHandler.directory = ${catalina.base}/logs org.apache.juli.FileHandler.prefix = mylog. java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.level = FINE java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler.formatter = java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter On the one hand, Tomcat seems to read this file, as it correctly saves the logfiles with the prefix "mylog" and prints only messages with log-level FINE and above. On the other hand, it keeps on writing log messages like this: Jun 8, 2010 9:53:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log SEVERE: Error writing messages ClientAbortException: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe I actually wanted to suppress all log messages from this class, as they flood my logfile, and the error is irrelevant for me. So why is the following line ignored? org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF Is there any other way to suppress the log output of this class?

• Trac: Changesets lost after changing SVN repository path

  Last evening I did some housekeeping on our code repository - basically moved the code from /repo/trunk to /repo/projectname/trunk. I changed the repo path on my trac.ini - after which trac complained the repository needed to be resynced. So I ran: trac-admin /var/trac/projectname resync and all was well. Then I checked the changesets against the ticket and found that trac no longer has a link to show the code against changesets - says "No changeset XXX in repository". Has anyone here had the same issue they managed to solve? I need the broken links to the changeset fixed. Thank you

• IE HTTPS Ajax request image not showing up

  Hi: In IE (7 or 8) and HTTPS mode, following RESPONSE is delivered for an AJAX request. My issue is the img was NOT requested at all by IE (figured out using Fiddler), broken img is shown instead. It all works perfectly in HTTP mode in IE and other browsers no problem rendering in both mode (please don't tell me not to use IE). Any thoughts/work-arounds/suggestions? • weird characters displayed during serial communication OSX

  I have tried communicating via serial (OSX w/ prolific drivers - USB RS232 adapter - Tx,Rx and GND pins on device serial ttl port) to a device and done so successfully using screen /dev/tty.usbserial 115200 8N1 I get to log in and use it as if I was SSH or TelNetted in... However whenever I try to go into system recovery mode (holding CTRL+1) while the device is powering on, it starts displaying weird characters and until I close the screen session it will continue showing weird characters: Of course when we tried doing the same thing on my boss' macbook running windows and PuTTY and everything worked fine, even in system recovery mode; characters were displayed properly. What gives? Id like to learn the intuition to use because up till now I concluded that since I can bot into the system and see characters normally everything about the connection should be fine and its must have been the recovery partition that was broken. • Displaying local images in the web browser control

  Hi, I am writing a Windows Forms application and am creating a report for users to view in the webBrowser control. The problem is that it does not seem to display an image which is situated on my local hard drive, it just display the "broken image" red cross symbol. The path of the image is correct and when I view the source code of the generated html in either Firefox or Chrome it works but not in Internet Explorer (which I presume it what is used for this webBrowser control).   My code worked fine in JQuery 1.3.2, but in 1.4.2 it seems to be broken. What is should get in the post is something like this: ?pks=108;pks=107 What I now get is: ?pks[]=108;pks[]=107; When I trace this code through, the JSON object seems to be fine until it enters .ajax. Firebug after the response is received shows the post was: Parameters application/x-www-form-urlencoded pks[] 108 pks[] 107 Source pks%5B%5D=108&pks%5B%5D=107 Which is not what I got on JQuery 1.3.2. Where are those extra braces coming from?

I found that the vcbuild.exe always call the "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Csc.exe /noconfig .." the problem is how can I change the Framework version to v3.5? I found my project works fine with the v3.5 but it's broken in the v2.0.50727. I try to use msbuild.exe instead of vcbuild.exe, everything goes well, I just don't understand how can I make it with the vcbuild.exe? win7+vs2005+vs2008 installed.
