  • ms access negative page numbers

    - by FrustratedWithFormsDesigner
I have an access report that generates 36505 pages (un filtered, and about half of each page is taken up by group headers and page headers) , though the footer at the bottom of the report page says "36505 of -29031". This looks like an overflow problem maybe, though I'm confused how it got the current page number of the last page OK, but failed to get total page count. Has anyone dealt with this before?

  • Phantom horizontal scroll bars on the whole window in IE.

    - by Stephen
I'm working on a website layout you can find at dev.movingcost.com In most browsers, everything seems fine... but I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar on the window when viewing the page in IE. I'm using a fixed width of 960px with auto margins to center the content. I've even tried using "overflow-x:hidden" on the html and body tags to no avail... any clue where the problem is?

  • c++ meaning of the use of const in the signature

    - by jbu
Please help me understand the following signature: err_type funcName(const Type& buffer) const; so for the first const, does that mean the contents of Type cannot change or that the reference cannot change? secondly, what does the second const mean? I don't really even have a hint. Thanks in advance, jbu

  • Looking for downloadable demo of a .Net service accessed through a pure JavaScript client, without r

    - by blueberryfields
I am told that the configuration below is possible, but have had significant difficulty in finding instructions on how to set it up. While I'm trying to muddle my way through this on my own, maybe stack-overflow knows of better sources for documentation: I am looking for a walkthrough, including a downloadable, working example, for setting up the following configuration: Server-side .net application (For .net 2.0 or higher), installed/deployed as a windows' service (that is, not served through IIS), and accessed by a client tool that is completely implemented in JavaScript.

Where do you host your rails applications? I've tried Heroku (shared) and Slicehost (dedicated). I thought I would ask you, the knowledgeable guys here at stack-overflow, for hosting recommendations. Thanks in advance -- Deb

  • Technical non-terminating condition in a loop

    - by Snarfblam
Most of us know that a loop should not have a non-terminating condition. For example, this C# loop has a non-terminating condition: any even value of i. This is an obvious logic error. void CountByTwosStartingAt(byte i) { // If i is even, it never exceeds 254 for(; i < 255; i += 2) { Console.WriteLine(i); } } Sometimes there are edge cases that are extremely unlikeley, but technically constitute non-exiting conditions (stack overflows and out-of-memory errors aside). Suppose you have a function that counts the number of sequential zeros in a stream: int CountZeros(Stream s) { int total = 0; while(s.ReadByte() == 0) total++; return total; } Now, suppose you feed it this thing: class InfiniteEmptyStream:Stream { // ... Other members ... public override int Read(byte[] buffer, int offset, int count) { Array.Clear(buffer, offset, count); // Output zeros return count; // Never returns -1 (end of stream) } } Or more realistically, maybe a stream that returns data from external hardware, which in certain cases might return lots of zeros (such as a game controller sitting on your desk). Either way we have an infinite loop. This particular non-terminating condition stands out, but sometimes they don't. A completely real-world example as in an app I'm writing. An endless stream of zeros will be deserialized into infinite "empty" objects (until the collection class or GC throws an exception because I've exceeded two billion items). But this would be a completely unexpected circumstance (considering my data source). How important is it to have absolutely no non-terminating conditions? How much does this affect "robustness?" Does it matter if they are only "theoretically" non-terminating (is it okay if an exception represents an implicit terminating condition)? Does it matter whether the app is commercial? If it is publicly distributed? Does it matter if the problematic code is in no way accessible through a public interface/API? Edit: One of the primary concerns I have is unforseen logic errors that can create the non-terminating condition. If, as a rule, you ensure there are no non-terminating conditions, you can identify or handle these logic errors more gracefully, but is it worth it? And when? This is a concern orthogonal to trust.

filtered=[] text="any.pdf" if "doc" and "pdf" and "xls" and "jpg" not in text: filtered.append(text) print(filtered) This is my first Post in Stack Overflow, so excuse if there's something annoying in Question, The Code suppose to append text if text doesn't include any of these words:doc, pdf, xls, jpg. It works fine if Its like: if "doc" in text: elif "jpg" in text: elif "pdf" in text: elif "xls" in text: else: filtered.append(text)

  • C++ segmentation error when first parameter is null in comparison operator overload

    - by user1774515
I am writing a class called Word, that handles a c string and overloads the <, , <=, = operators. word.h: friend bool operator<(const Word &a, const Word &b); word.cc: bool operator<(const Word &a, const Word &b) { if(a == NULL && b == NULL) return false; if(a == NULL) return true; if(b == NULL) return false; return a.wd < b.wd; //wd is a valid c string } main: char* temp = NULL; //EDIT: i was mistaken, temp is a char pointer Word a("blah"); //a.wd = [b,l,a,h] cout << (temp<a); i get a segmentation error before the first line of the operator< method after the last line in the main. I can correct the problem by writing cout << (a>temp); where the operator> is similarly defined and i get no errors. but my assignment requires (temp < a) to work so this is where i ask for help. EDIT: i made a mistake the first time and i said temp was of type Word, but it is actually of type char*. so i assume that the compiler converts temp to a Word using one of my constructors. i dont know which one it would use and why this would work since the first parameter is not Word. here is the constructor i think is being used to make the Word using temp: Word::Word(char* c, char* delimeters=NULL) { char *temporary = "\0"; if(c == NULL) c = temporary; check(stoppers!=NULL, "(Word(char*,char*))NULL pointer"); //exits the program if the expression is false if(strlen(c) == 0) size = DEFAULT_SIZE; //10 else size = strlen(c) + 1 + DEFAULT_SIZE; wd = new char[size]; check(wd!=NULL, "Word(char*,char*))heap overflow"); delimiters = new char[strlen(stoppers) + 1]; //EDIT: changed to [] check(delimiters!=NULL,"Word(char*,char*))heap overflow"); strcpy(wd,c); strcpy(delimiters, stoppers); count = strlen(wd); } wd is of type char* thanks for looking at this big question and trying to help. let me know if you need more code to look at

  • Stretching DIV to 100% height and width of window but not less than 800x600px

    - by El Eme
I have a page that needs to stretch and resize with with window and I've managed to do that but I need that the "inner div" (#pgContent) stretch if the window is resized to higher dimensions but that it doesn't shrink more than, let's say for example 800 x 600 px. As I have it now it stretches well but it also shrinks more than I want! It's working as I want in width but not in height!? Here's a visual example: My CSS: * { margin: 0; padding: 0; outline: 0; } /*| PAGE LAYOUT |*/ html, body { height: 100%; width: 100%; /*text-align: center;*/ /*IE doesn't ~like this*/ cursor: default; } #pgWrapper { z-index: 1; min-height: 100%; height: auto !important; /*min-height: 600px;*/ /* THIS SHOULD WORK BUT IT DOESN'T */ height: 100%; min-width: 1000px; width: 100%; position: absolute; overflow: hidden; text-align: center; background: #000; } #pgContent { position: absolute; top: 30px; left: 30px; right: 30px; bottom: 50px; overflow: hidden; background: #CCC; } #footWrapper { z-index: 2; height: 50px; min-width: 940px; position: absolute; left: 30px; right: 30px; bottom: 0px; background: #C00; } /*| END PAGE LAYOUT |*/ And the HTML: <body> <div id="pgWrapper"> <div id="pgContent"> This DIV should stretch with window but never lower than for example 800px x 600px!<br /> If window size is lower then scrollbars should appear. </div> </div> <div id="footWrapper"> <div id="footLft"></div> <div id="footRgt"></div> </div> </body> If someone could give me a help on this I would appreciate. Thanks in advance.

  • Scala return type for tuple-functions

    - by Felix
Hello Guys, I want to make a scala function which returns a scala tuple. I can do a function like this: def foo = (1,"hello","world") and this will work fine, but now I want to tell the compiler what I expect to be returned from the function instead of using the built in type inference (after all, I have no idea what a (1,"hello","world") is) I thought I remembered the classname being something like Tuple3[Int,String,String] but that doesnt work for me. Suggestions? :D (ps: I love stack overflow!)

  • Recipes/tutorials/libraries for GUI-like terminal navigation (vim/lynx-style)?

    - by qgi
Several console based applications like vim or lynx offer a rich user interface which enables the user to navigate freely around the console, manipulate data directly on screen, access menus and much more, similar to "modern" gui applications. How is that being achieved in principal on Unix/Linux with C++? Do you directly manipulate some kind of character buffer or is the screen constantly cleared and reprinted to stdout? Is there a set of libraries to implement such behavior or even some kind of a "modern" event-driven GUI toolkit for the console?

  • How can I display different icons for same file extension

    - by ScottCate
Visual Studio has *.SLN files for 2008, and 2010. In explorer, the icon associated with the file is based on the version somehow. I was always under the impression that the associated icon just looked at the extension, but obviously there is more going on. I'm asking on stack overflow as a developer - for my application, but if you feel this belongs on another forum, I'm happy to move the discussion elsewhere. Thank you!

  • A way to correct background scaling in iPad's Safari?

    - by favo
Hi, I have a website using a huge background image (2000x1500) in a div container (100% x 100%). When I open that site on Safari on an iPad it gets scaled down (~40%) in a different proportion than the content (~80%). I moved the background to an img-tag in a div with 100% width and 100% height and an overflow setting "hidden". Exactly the same happens. Is there a CSS Setting that can help Safari to scale down background images in the same proportion as the content?
