How can I build this payment receipt/booking application?

I'm planning to build a payment receipt/booking application for a media company with several branches in different locations. The application should be able to move data across the network/internet to a central database where the administrator/accountant in a different location will be able to see the result of the entire job for the day from each branch. Application will run on windows environment. Will be able to send result of the booking to a Point Of Sales printer for print output. Now, I'm confused about choosing the right programming language to accomplish this task. I'm between beginner/intermediate level in PHP, I know HTML/CSS and JavaScript. I have tried to do this in PHP but, I'm face with several challenges and I fear for the POS part since PHP application run on the web browser. I don't know if python will be best suited for this and how long will it take someone with my experience level to pick up python. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

I faced this issue when I try to deploy a solution and it failed initially due to SharePoint 2010 Administration service is not started. I then started the service and redeploy the solution; however I face the above issue. To fix it, you need to cancel the current deployment then redeploy the solution. Problem: Solution: To fix it, you need to cancel the current solution deployment. Go to CAà System Settings àManage farm solutions and then cancel the deployment. Next, you can redeployment your solution.

What are the best packages out there to handle this? Can someone post a link to a good tutorial or post some tips? One constraint I have is that it has to be Windows 7 friendly. By that I mean the shares and streaming should work for a Windows machine.

What would one call this architecture?

I have developed a distributed test automation system which consists of two different entities. One entity is responsible for triggering tests runs and monitoring/displaying their progress. The other is responsible for carrying out tests on that host. Both of these entities retrieve data from a central DB. Now, my first thought is that this is clearly a server-client architecture. After all, you have exactly one organizing entity and many entities that communicate with said entity. However, while the supposed clients to communicate to the server via RPC, they are not actually requesting services or information, rather they are simply reporting back test progress, in fact, once the test run has been triggered they can complete their tasks without connection to the server. The request for a service is actually made by the supposed server which triggers the clients to carry out tests. So would this still be considered a server-client architecture or is this something different?

Keeping application backend and UI synchronised

Hi all. I have an app that works with a list of objects so has one central keyed list. The main window has a tree containing these object with some information, which is easy enough to populate as a one off event after loading. Now, the complicated part, any part of the application can add, remove, and more importantly change the details of those objects at any time (all in the same process) and I'd like the tree to update to suit. I have a few options including passing events back down from the object to the list to the form which seems to be the most flexible way. I can also do it lazily and repopulate the tree each time or periodically (very hackish). Does anyone have any better thoughts on how to structure this? This is being done in C# 2.0 but the concepts apply to any environment. Thanks

The next tutorial that has been thoroughly restructured and rewritten is: NetBeans Platform Feed Reader Tutorial Originally written by Rich Unger, it was one of the very first NetBeans Platform tutorials that ever existed. In this particular rewrite, the entire structure of the tutorial has changed, in an attempt to make the flow more "bite size", rather than a big lump. Also, thanks to recent NetBeans Platform changes, there are no Bundle files anymore, all Strings are declared via @Messages annotations. Theoretically, the browser in the application could be a JavaFX WebView, though the browser part of the application isn't a central theme of the tutorial, hence only a reference is made to the JavaFX alternative. I was thinking the C languages (C++, C#), Java, .NET; Should I learn any more Server Side Scripting languages? Python, Perl, Ruby? I used to be somewhat familiar with writing Java, but haven't written in Java in a good while, what would you suggest? Thanks!

"Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). Ant get task throws "get doesn't support nested resources element" error

No Business Data Connectivity Service associated with current web context error

I am running on a new dev setup for SharePoint 2010 and trying to setup some External Content types. I think that I have setup BCS correctly (since I see it running in the central administration). When I go into SharePoint designer 2010 and try to setup a new External Content Type, I get the following error: "There is no Business Connectivity Service associated with the current web context." Am I missing something with the configuration or why am I not able to setup a new External Content Type to point to my existing SQL database

Any ideas?

Automatic incremental SQL Script generation for incremental, nightly builds when using Team Build in

hi all, hope that everybody here is OK. We are using VS 2008 as development tool, TFS 2008 as version control as well as build automation. Some of our developer use dbpro for databases changes and some use SQL Server management studio. I am trying to automate build for Web Application built using C# and VB.Net. Our scenario is such that we have a central database to which our web application connects. Whenever we supply our clients with a new functionality or a bug fix, we supply them incremental builds. The SQL script is checked into source control for every incremental build when they have made and tested there changes on our central DB Server. I want to generate Differential script that can be run at the client as an incremental update script. Now to come about it is a problem. Sometimes our developers tend to forget the database change-sets and the script in the source control is missing an SP or a two. Also, sometimes we need to insert default data into some of the tables that have strict stringent values and not test values. Like a table that contains Services provided by the panel, we add a new service name, signature, credentials and service address, etc etc in the ServiceTable. Besides this many other tables may have test data that may not be needed. If we use DataCompare, it will generate changeset for required data (important for client to enable certain services) and our test data that was added to the database as a result of our testing of the functionality or bug fix. Currently i am using SQLSchemaCompareTask (from Visual Studio 2008 Team Database Professional Power Tools API) in the TFSBuild.proj file of the build definition for TFS 2008. Using SQLSchemaCompareTask, the script generated contains database names like [dbo]. etc which are not desired as the script fails when run against SQL Server 2000 databses (Some of our client still use SQL Server 2000) databases as teh backend of the application. Also default data can't be generated by this process. To overcome this problem, i have to come up with a solution that can compare databases and generate script automatically that does not have to be manually reviewed again before being sent to the client. Please suggest effective methodology of such SQL script generation and suggest whether two different databases may be used or something ? Is there any toolkit or api that can enable build automation for SQL Server databases? Thank you all. Regards Steve
