  • Problem with running open office from the command line

    - by Devin Dixon
Yesterday I installed OpenOffice on my Linux server. But when I go to run it through the command line, it says command cannot be found. I've also tried other things like OOWriter, etc. Has anyone had this problem? Installation process went like below: root@aserver [OOO330_m20_native_packed-1_en-US.9567/RPMS]# rpm -i *.rpm package openoffice.org-ure-1.7.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core01-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core02-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core03-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core04-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core05-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core06-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-core07-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-base-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-calc-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-draw-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-help-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-impress-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-math-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-res-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-writer-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-base-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-calc-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-draw-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-images-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-impress-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-math-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-writer-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package jre-1.6.0_22-fcs.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-binfilter-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-en-US-binfilter-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-gnome-integration-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-graphicfilter-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-javafilter-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-kde-integration-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-onlineupdate-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-ooofonts-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-oooimprovement-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-ooolinguistic-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-pyuno-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-testtool-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package ooobasis3.3-xsltfilter-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-base-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-calc-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-dict-en-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-dict-es-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-dict-fr-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-draw-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-en-US-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-impress-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-math-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed package openoffice.org3-writer-3.3.0-9567.i586 is already installed root@aserver [OOO330_m20_native_p acked-1_en-US.9567/RPMS]# soffice bash: soffice: command not found

  • VIM zsh, bash and colors in command line on Ubuntu

    - by Jacek Wysocki
I have problem with VIM command line when calling system commands. e.g. !ls, all command output colors aren't parsed by VIM. My system is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with VIM 7.3.429 from Ubuntu repositories. Is there any workaround for this problem? EDIT: My vimrc file :!echo $TERM in VIM returns : dumb EDIT2: I found a simple workaround but it's not perfect if [ "$VIM" ] && [ "$TERM" = "dumb" ] then # For gvim's monochromatic :shell PS1='\n\u@\h \w\n\$ ' unalias ls unalias grep fi (It's working on bash)

  • OpenVPN - Ubunut 10.04 - Client Can't Connect to Server - Linux Route Add Command Failed

    - by nicorellius
I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for a OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine. I started by building the client.conf file so that I could run: sudo openvpn --config client.conf And it seems correct but I still can't connect and get these errors and lines of output: Mon May 31 14:34:57 2010 ERROR: Linux route add command failed: external program exited with error status: 7 Mon May 31 14:34:57 2010 /sbin/route add -net 10.8.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 gw 10.8.0.17 SIOCADDRT: File exists Mon May 31 14:34:57 2010 ERROR: Linux route add command failed: external program exited with error status: 7 Mon May 31 14:34:57 2010 Initialization Sequence Completed I searched the net for forums and ideas and tried some file moving and renaming but still ended up in the same place.

  • "php: command not found" after changing PHP system files in OS X

    - by Aurelien Porte
I wanted to install Symfony on Mac OS X Lion. Apparently, as MAMP was already installed on my computer, there was a problem with the "timezone" field in the php.ini file. I can't remember exactly the error but basically, Symfony installation required a timezone like "Europe/Paris" but MAMP apparently changed that part. Well, it's very vague but I've seen on the web that other people had the same issue. So I tried one of the solution I found (without success) but: It didn't work. I can not use the php command anymore ("-bash: php: command not found"). I can not remember the exact commands I did to go back. Here are some potential relevant commands I found in my history and that correspond with the beginning of my problem, in this order: sudo mv /usr/bin/php /usr/bin/php-old sudo ln -s /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/php /usr/bin/php rm /usr/bin/php-old sudo cp php.ini.default /etc/php.ini rm php.ini but I don't know anymor in which repertory I was. sudo mv /usr/bin/php-old /usr/bin/php

  • Run Linux command as predefined user

    - by vijay.shad
Hi all, I have created a shell script to start a server program. startup.sh start When above command will executes, it will try starts the server as adminuser. To achieve this my script has written like this. SUBIT="su - adminuser -c " SERVER_BOX_COMMAND_A="Server" ############## # Function to start cluster function start(){ $SUBIT "$SERVER_BOX_COMMAND_A" } When i execute the command it asks for password. Is there any other way to do this so, it will not ask for password. I have seen this behavior in Jboss startup script provided on jboss. That script changes the user to jboss and then starts the jboss server. I wanted my script to behave same way.

  • asterisk send mute command to jukebox on incoming call

    - by Jona
Hi, We're trialling a Asterisk Now server to take over from our ageing PBX system. One of the "nice to have" features would be the ability to pause or lower the volume on the office jukebox if an incoming call is detected. We currently run a linux jukebox which plays music out of the speakers using mpd and can be controlled by the mpc client. We can manually issue the following command to achieve this: mpc volume 20 Does anyone know how to get asterisk to execute this command or some action that we could hook into when a phone call is incoming to specific extensions?

  • Compiz command plugin won't register keyboard shortcuts

    - by David Moles
Per this discussion I've enabled the Compiz commands plugin in order to try to bind some keyboard shortcuts to wmctrl actions. CCSM captures my keystrokes just fine, but no matter what keystroke I try or what command I bind it to (everything from my original intention of binding Super-1, Super-2 etc. to wmctrl -o 0,0, wmctrl -o 2560,0, etc., to binding Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L to gnome-terminal). Basic compiz shortcuts for window switching and so on -- even custom ones -- seem to work fine, but the command plugin doesn't seem to be working at all. I also notice the following symptom: when I open the keyboard shortcut tab in CCSM, the keyboard shortcuts often at first appear blank, though if you click on the blank button, the correct value is still there. Also possibly related, I've noticed that gnome-terminal doesn't seem to notice the Super key, though other apps (e.g. CCSM, Emacs) register it fine. Anyway, it seems like something's eating my keystrokes. Any ideas?

  • vim command palette, similar to sublime text

    - by user137369
In sublime text, we can press ??P to bring up the command palette. Are there any similar tools for vim? I’ve been trying vim-ctrlp-cmdpalette, and although it works relatively well (there are some small issues), it depends on ctrlp (not a huge problem), and it looks like it won’t see much development (it has 14 commits over the course of 3 days, 5 months ago, for an “Initial experimental version”), so I was wondering if there are any known alternatives, since searching for “vim command palette” is a bit limiting; maybe there are some other terms more appropriate for this.

  • Last parameter of last command in bash in vi-mode

    - by Mo
I have been convinced (over at stackoverflow) to use my beloved bash in vi mode. So far I got used to it quite well and I like it. However I really do miss one feature: In emacs-mode, you can enter the last parameter of the previous command by pressing "ESC ." (That is, press escape followed by the .) Is there a default binding to insert the last parameter in vi-mode? I wasn't able to find one and I really miss this command... Thanks a lot

  • Unmount Mass Storage USB Device from the Command Line in Linux

    - by Casey
I've searched high and low, and can't figure this one out. I have a older Olympus Camera (2001 or so). When I plug in the USB connection, I get the following log output: $ dmesg | grep sd [20047.625076] sd 21:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0 [20047.627922] sd 21:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk Secondly, the drive is not mounted in the FS, but when I run gphoto2 I get the following error: $ gphoto2 --list-config *** Error *** An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not lock the device'): Camera is already in use. *** Error (-60: 'Could not lock the device') *** What command will unmount the drive. For example in Nautilus, I can right click and select "Safely Remove Device". After doing that, the /dev/sg7 and /dev/sdg devices are removed. Some things I've tried already are sdparm and sg3_utils, however I am unfamiliar with them, so it's possible I just didn't find the right command.

  • MySQL: "UPDATE command denied to user ''@'localhost'"

    - by Uncle Nerdicus
For some reason when I installed MySQL on my machine (a Mac running OS X 10.9) the 'root' MySQL account got messed up and I don't have access to it, but I do have access to the standard MySQL account 'sean@localhost' which I use to log into phpMyAdmin. I am trying to reset the 'root' password by starting the mysqld daemon using the command mysqld --skip-grant-tables and then running the following lines in the mysql shell. mysql> UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('MyNewPass') -> WHERE User='root'; mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Problem is when I try to run that MySQL string the daemon spits back a ERROR 1142 (42000): UPDATE command denied to user ''@'localhost' for table 'user' as if I didn't use the -u argument when I started the mysql shell, either though I did. Any help is muchly appreciated as I am lost at this point. :/

  • Looking for an application to record audio and video on a linux "embedded" device

    - by Luke404
I am working with a linux x86 device with limited CPU resources (as a prototype we just use a pentium-m netbook). We'd like to record video from one V4L2 device (we'll probably end up using just USB Video Class devices like all modern webcams) and one audio stream from an ALSA source. The thing will not have screen and keyboard, and obviously no X11 environment. Goals are: do as little work as possible to cope with little cpu resources - for example I'd like to record video in the native MJPEG I get out of the UVC devices encoding audio to MPEG3 Layer-2 (aka mp2) is ok since it let us save a lot of space (compared to raw pcm samples) and does use little cpu power I don't mind loosing some video frames here and there (UVC devices do that) as long as I can get audio and video streams syncronized not require user input to start the thing (a python script takes care of initialization, startup, shutdown, etc...) be able to open the resulting files for postprocessing without too much effort (ie, if mplayer or vlc can play it, it's fine) So far the only app I found that could be started from command line and record V4L2 video + ALSA audio is mencoder but I'm having some difficulties with it. It should be able to do that but I cannot record audio and video together - just one of the two. And if I use two different processes to record to two different files I have no means to get them in sync (audio is more or less always correct, but video framerate will vary over time and it seems to lack timestamps to correctly play it back to the correct time). Long story short, how do you record an unconverted MJPEG stream (from an UVC device) and an audio stream (from an ALSA device, possibly encoding to any standard format) using a command line tool, to a single file (MPEG or any other container), keeping audio and video in sync?

  • Command line import of database using latin1 encoding

    - by chrisjlee
I'm using a particular cloud hosting solution (one which i won't name) and they don't provide ssh access so i'm at a whim on how the database is dumped. I downloaded the dump which is packed into a tar.gz file. I discover that this file utilizes latin1 encoding. Which i don't get to specify the encoding for the host i'm using because i don't have SSH access or DB access. I try to import it via command line for my local development environment (mysql -uroot foodb < file.db) like i usually do with other databases but am having problems. Is it possible to import a database via command line by specifying which encoding (preferably latin1) before importing it? Or do i have to convert it to UTF8?

  • Updating the $PATH for running an command through SSH with LDAP user account

    - by Guillaume Bodi
Hi all, I am setting up a Mac OSX 1.6 server to host Git repositories. As such we need to push commits to the server through SSH. The server has only an admin account and uses a user list from a LDAP server. Now, since it is accessing the server through a non interactive shell, git operations are not able to complete since git executables are not in the default path. As the users are network users, they do not have a local home folder. So I cannot use a ~/.bashrc and the like solution. I browsed over several articles here and there but could not get it working in a nice and clean setup. Here are the infos on the methods I gathered so far: I could update the default PATH environment to include the git executables folder. However, I could not manage to do it successfully. Updating /etc/paths didn't change anything and since it's not an interactive shell, /etc/profile and /etc/bashrc are ignored. From the ssh manpage, I read that a BASH_ENV variable can be set to get an optional script to be executed. However I cannot figure how to set it system wide on the server. If it needs to be set up on the client machine, this is not an acceptable solution. If someone has some info on how it is supposed to be done, please, by all means! I can fix this problem by creating a .bashrc with PATH correction in the system root (since all network users would start here as they do not have home). But it just feels wrong. Additionally, if we do create a home folder for an user, then the git command would fail again. I can install a third party application to set up hooks on the login and then run a script creating a home directory with the necessary path corrections. This smells like a backyard tinkering and duct tape solution. I can install a small script on the server and ForceCommand the sshd to this script on login. This script will then look for a command to execute ($SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND) and trigger a login shell to run this command, or just trigger a regular login shell for an interactive session. The full details of this method can be found here: http://marc.info/?l=git&m=121378876831164 The last one is the best method I found so far. Any suggestions on how to deal with this properly?

  • django fcgi - call a management command with subprocess.Popen

    - by user41855
Hi, I'm using an app called django-chronograph. It has a code of line which works in my dev environment and does not work in production: p = subprocess.Popen(['python', get_manage_py(), 'run_job', str(self.pk)]) This line crashes in production with: unknown command run_job Whereas when I run directly from command line: manage.py run_job It works fine. Interestingly it worked once when we exchanged 'python' with 'usr/bin/python'. then we restarted the server once more and it was back to old behaviour. Thus it seems as we have a python path issue. I'm not the guy who is running the server, its my app that should run and it would be great to get some help here. Attention: I'm a total noob regarding server-administration.. server environment: NGINX with FCGI-Daemon FCGI in prefork-mode

  • Accurate Windows equivalent of the Unix which(1) command

    - by SamB
It's easy enough to write a simple script that works like the which(1) command from unix, which searches for a given command along the PATH. Unfortunately, the CreateProcess function is not so simple, so this type of script does not give accurate results: CreateProcess looks in a number of directories not in the PATH, looks for files with all of the extensions listed in PATHEXT, etc. Worse, who knows what might be added in future versions of Windows? Anyway, my question is: is there a robust, accurate which(1) equivalent for Windows, which always tells you what file CreateProcess would find?

  • No command window.

    - by Segref
Using 7 build 7600. Wen I try to open a command window, I just get returned to my previous folder/desktop. If I try to open an extended window I get to the UAC, answer yes and again am returned. A check in Sys info reveals the command prompt is running but I can't see the window. I can have multiple instances of cmd.exe running but still no window. My video adapter is GeForce 7600 and I have no other known problems at this time. Thanks in advance.
