• How to select all labeled messages in Gmail inbox?

  I have dozens of labels and sub-labels and dozens of filters. I use the 'skip inbox' on a lot of filters but have many more that I want to see in the inbox before I archive them. It's easy to shift-select a few dozen at a time to archive when they are NOT separated by non-labeled mail. What I want to do is to be able to select all mail that has any label in the inbox and archive it with one click so that nothing but unlabeled mail is left in the inbox. This doesn't seem to be any different than what the Select Starred search except I can't find a wildcard search operator for labels.

• Can not RDP to Win 2003 box or initiate remote restart

  I've got a Windows 2003 server that's at my remote data center. This morning I tried to connect to it via RDP, but the connection fails with the following error: This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator. I have also trying issuing a remote shutdown/restart command using the "shutdown -i" command from my local system. No error is reported, however the system does not reboot. This server runs SQL Server 2005 and it is still fully operational and responsive to queries. I can also remotely connect to the services control panel of the remote system. Is there anything that I can try to regain control of the system, short of having an operator in the data center do a hard reboot on the server for me?

  I have a load balancer that I created an auto-scaling-group and launch-config for. I created the auto-scaling-group with a min-size of 1 and max size of 20. I have a scaledown policy: as-put-scaling-policy SBMScaleDownPolicy --auto-scaling-group SBMAutoScaleGroup --adjustment=-1 --type ChangeInCapacity --cooldown 300 Then I set up an alarm: mon-put-metric-alarm SBMLowCPUAlarm --comparison-operator LessThanThreshold --evaluation-periods 1 --metric-name CPUUtilization --namespace "AWS/EC2" --period 600 --statistic Average --threshold 35 --alarm-actions arn:aws:autoscaling:us-east-1:policystuffhere:autoScalingGroupName/SBMAutoScaleGroup:policyName/SBMScaleDownPolicy --dimensions "AutoScalingGroupName=SBMAutoScaleGroup" When average CPU usage over 10 minutes is under 35, in CloudFront the alarm shows up as "In Alarm State" but doesn't decrease the number of instances. Also, if there's only one instance running it'll spin up another to 2 even if a scale up alarm isn't hit. It seems like the default value is just set to 2 somehow. How can I change this?

• Problem reinstalling GRUB

  I have a PC that dual-boots Ubuntu and Windows Vista. I recently reinstalled Windows Vista after some problems and now the bootloader's gone. I've been trying to follow this Ubuntu community guide but it's not working. I have Grub Legacy according to the first part (I installed Ubuntu 9.04 originally then upgraded). From the 9.04 LiveCD, I ran this: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/disk /dev/sda5 sda5 is the Ubuntu partition. I get this output: grub-probe: error: Cannot open `/boot/grub/device.map` [: 494: =: unexpected operator Installing GRUB to /dev/sda5 as (hd0,4)... Installation finished.No errors reported. This is the contents...(etc) (hd0) /dev/sda In the bit below, when I run setup (hd0) I get an error, "Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition" Little help?

• See network computer description in Explorer

  When viewing the list of network computers in Windows Explorer on a Win 7 machine there appears to be no way of readily seeing the description field, which makes that pretty well useless. I believe this problem started with Vista but I'm seeing it for the first time because I was fortunate enough to skip over Vista. We're currently rolling out Win 7 on new boxes and although I'm changing the naming system to something more sensible, the old boxes have names such as FWS01, FWS02, etc. Managing a network of computers with such names is made more difficult when you can't readily see who's machine each one is. Googling the problem brought up a workaround involving creating a shortcut on an XP machine and copying that to the Win 7 box but that's a long way from ideal. Is there some kind of hack that can be applied to machines, the operator of which needs to be able to see the description field?

  One fast question: if I buy an iPad 3G in Europe will it work on other places without jailbreak? I ask this because I heard that, in Europe, iPads are not blocked to any telecom but I am not sure about that. On the other hand I am afraid do buy because I know that their cousins, iphones, are blocked to a specific telecom. Another question is regarding activation. As far as I remembered, my iPhone required me to do an activation step on iTunes and I remember it was also activated (or whatever) on the store (I remembered the salesman connected it to a computer and did some stuff before giving me the device). Is the iPad in europe totally free of operator? totally unblocked? thanks.

• Lotus Notes: Searching email by fields

  I'm using Lotus Notes 8.5.2 in a large corporate deployment. I'm trying to figure out how to search my email in a structured manner, e.g. by specifying criteria on fields. The help seems to suggest that I can use fields in square brackets and a list of operators, e.g. to find all mail where the From field contains John, I'd search for /[From] CONTAINS John However, I can't get this to work - any operator style query I've tried returns zero documents. "Web-style" queries (e.g. typing John into the search dialog) work, but I'd really prefer a way that would let me search more precisely. Potential issues: I'm assuming that the field names can be taken from the list of things I see when I open a mail and look at its Document Properties. Full text indexing is turned off for my mailbox, and all my attempts to create my own have failed. Does anyone have better information on searching by from/date/subject conditions in Notes?

  I'm trying to offer services over the MobiTex network (also see wiki) and want to reduce double-work. I'm trying to understand if it is a good idea to WAP enable my website. Given that WAP usage is increasing (since MMS is a hybrid of SMS + WAP), and the FCC has required every operator in the 700Mhz range to implement it I'd like to fully understand if there are benefits to the technology for certain critical applications. For example, if GPRS allows SMS traffic, voice, and Data, presumably they are handled by different Gateways. If there is another gateway for WAP traffic I would think that it would act as a backup if the data gateway was overloaded. Are there resiliency benefits to using WAP on a critical website? i.e. Content delivery (push or pull)

• Call a function in an ExtJS XTemplate

  I'm familiar with using a function to determine a specific condition using xtemplate but not sure how to directly call a function without the conditional if statement. My code, for example, wants to append some characters to a string that I am using within my xtemplate. • Linq where clause with multiple conditions and null check

  I'm trying to check if a date is not null in linq and if it isn't check its a past date. QuestionnaireRepo.FindAll(q => !q.ExpiredDate.HasValue || q.ExpiredDate >DateTime.Now).OrderByDescending(order => order.CreatedDate); I need the second check to only apply if the first is true. I am using a single repository pattern and FindAll accepted a where clause ANy ideas? There are lots of similar questions on here but not that give the answer, I'm very new to Linq as you may of guessed :) Edit: I get the results I require now but it will be checking the conditional on null values in some cases. Is this not a bad thing?

In IB in the nib file, I've added a view ahead of the table view and hooked it up to headerView - a UIView declared in the .h file. • Determine UIInterfaceOrientation on iPad

  I don't need to specify the orientation in this case, I just need to detect it, but I'm having trouble. I have conditional code that should only work in portrait, and if the device is in landscape I need to do something else. Since the deviceOrientation is not necessarily the same as the interfaceOrientation, I can't come up with a way to test for portrait mode. Most tutorials I find on Google are ways to force landscape or do some sort of rotation. The only thing I want to do is just determine what the orientation is.   I have started to play around with boost python a bit and ran into a problem. I tried to expose a C++ class to python which posed no problems. But I can't seem to manage to implement the __str__ functionality for the class without getting build errors I don't understand. I'm using boost 1_42 prebuild by boostpro. I build the library using cmake and the vs2010 compiler. I have a very simple setup.   Since IE is getting rid of conditional comments in version 10, I'm in dire need to find a "CSS hack" targeting IE10 specifically. NB! It has to be the selector that's getting "hacked" and not the CSS-properties. In Mozilla, you can use: @-moz-document url-prefix() { h1 { color: red; } } While in Webkit, you usually do: @media screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio:0) { h1 { color: blue; } } How would I do something similar in IE10?   I have a wordpress page with two or three sub-pages ("TV", "WEB", "WATCH") and I would like to have the sub-page links on the page itself. So, far, I can pull the sub-pages the following way: <?php $children = wp_list_pages('title_li&child_of='.$post->ID.'depth=1&echo=0'); if ($children) { ?> <ul> <?php echo $children; ?> </ul> <?php } ?> However, is there a way to loop through $children so I can pull each link by it's tag? i.e. using has_tag('tv'), has_tag('web') Between the wordpress conditional tags and php, I am not sure how to write this.

• Multiple update panels and multiple postbacks cause entire page to refresh...

  I'm having the same problem I had yesterday... The solution Aristos provided helped solve the problem, but I have other places sending updatepanel postbacks causing the same problem. When an update panel is updated and another request for an update is called before it has a chance to render the first updates, the entire page refreshes instead of just the update panel. I used fiddler to see what was going on and here's what happens... If I wait for the request to return before doing another request I get this: 21443|updatePanel|dnn_ctr1107_CRM_SalesTool_LeadsUpdatePanel| But if I don't wait, I get this: 66|pageRedirect||http://mysite.com/salesdashboard.aspx| The code from the previous question is still the same except I added UpdateMode="Conditional" to the update panel. Any ideas? Or is the only solution to this making sure that 2+ updates for any number of update panels (as long as they're on the same page) never happen? Thanks, Matt

  I was just wondering how others are going about testing controller actions in asp.net mvc? Most of my dependencies are injected in to my controllers so there is a not a huge amount of logic in the action methods but there may be some conditional logic for example which I think is unavoidable. In the past I have written tests for these action methods, mocked the dependencies and tested the results. I have found this is very brittle and a real PITA to maintain. Having 'Expect' and 'Stub' methods everywhere breaks very easily but I don't see any other way of testing controller actions. I actually think it might be easier to test some of these manually! Anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps I am missing something here? Thanks Imran

  I had a pretty simple requirement in my Scheme program to execute more than one statement, in the true condition of a 'if'. . So I write my code, something like this: (if (= 1 1) ((expression1) (expression2)) ; these 2 expressions are to be executed when the condition is true (expression3) ) Obviously, the above doesn't work, since I have unintentionally created a # procedure with # arguments. So, to get my work done, I simply put the above expressions in a new function and call it from there, in place of the expression1, expression2. It works. So, my point here is: is there any other conditional construct which may support my requirement here?

• Why does GetSqlDecimal throw when GetDecimal doesn't?

  I have a database table that has a column of type money, allowing nulls. Using a SqlDataReader named reader, I can do decimal d = reader.GetDecimal(1); which works, unless of course we're reading a null. If I try using SqlDecimal instead--and I thought the whole point of the SqlTypes was to deal with nulls--then I get an invalid cast, whether or not the value is null. SqlDecimal s = reader.GetSqlDecimal(1); // throws an invalid cast exception What am I doing wrong?   Is it possible for me to have a conditional in XSLT such that I find and replace only the FIRST tag of a particular tag name? For example, I have an XML file with many tags. I would like to replace the first of these tags with . The rest should be left alone. How would I do this in my transform? What I currently have is this: <xsl:template match="title"> <PageTitle> <xsl:apply-templates /> </PageTitle> </xsl:template> which finds all tags and replaces them with PageTitle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Kohana3: Different .htaccess rewritebase and kohana base_url for dev and production environment

  In my bootstrap.php I have the following: if($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] == 'localhost') Kohana::$environment = 'development'; else Kohana::$environment = 'production'; ... switch(Kohana::$environment) { case 'development': $settings = array('base_url' => '/kohana/', 'index_file' => FALSE); break; default: $settings = array('base_url' => '/', 'index_file' => FALSE); break; } In .htaccesshave this: # Installation directory RewriteBase /kohana/ This means that if I just upload my kohana application, it will break because the RewriteBase in the .htaccess file will be wrong. Is there a way I can have a conditional in the .htaccess file similar to the one I have in the bootstrap so that it will use the correct RewriteBase?
