Django-Registration & Django-Profile, using your own custom form

Hey All, I am making use of django-registration and django-profile to handle registration and profiles. I would like to create a profile for the user at the time of registration. Coloring even heighten columns

I try to set different a background colors for left and right columns and to maintain the same height. Given: type 'a tree = Tree of 'a * 'a tree list Define a function mtree : 'a tree -'a, that returns the greatest value of all the nodes in a multiway tree, following the usual order relation in OCaml (<=) I've come to do something like this below, which, of course, is not working. let rec mtree (Tree (r, sub)) = let max_node (Tree(a, l1)) (Tree(b, l2)) = if a >= b then (Tree(a, l1)) else (Tree(b, l2)) in List.fold_left max_node r sub;; After reading an answer to this I'm posting the fixed code. let rec mtree (Tree(r,sub)) = let max_node (Tree(a, l1)) (Tree(b, l2)) = if a >= b then a else b in List.fold_left (max_node) r (List.map mtree sub);; The idea is the same, fold the list comparing the nodes making use of my local function to do so and travel through the tree by calling the function itself over the nodes lists of the consecutive levels. Is still not working, though. Now complains about max_node in the fold_left part. Error: This expression has type 'a tree -> 'a tree -> 'a but an expression was expected of type 'a tree -> 'a tree -> 'a tree And here I'm definitely lost because I can't see why does it expects to return an 'a tree

Silverlight Chat WrapPanel Crash / Bug

I've been given the task to create a simple Silverlight chat box for two people. My control must adhere to the following requirements Scrollable Text must wrap if it's too long When a new item / message is added it must scroll that item into view Now I've successfully made a usercontrol to meet these requirements, but I've run into a possible bug / crash that I can't for the life of me fix. I'm looking for either a fix to the bug, or a different approach to creating a scrollable chat control. Here's the code I've been using. The Item (as layed out in the XAML) is a simple 2 column grid. One column for the username, and one column for the message. Now the "items" that I add to the ListBox is a custom class. It has three properties (Player, ForeColor, and Message) that I using binding on within my XAML Player is a string of the current user to display. ForeColor is just a foreground color preference. It helps distinguish the difference between messages. Message is a WrapPanel. I programmatically break the supplied string on the white space for each word. Here's the simple method. The problem I'm getting is when I use the scroll bar. You can scroll down using the side scroll bar or arrow keys, but when you scroll up Silverlight crashes. FireBug returns a ManagedRuntimeError #4004 with a XamlParseException. I'm soo close to having this control work, I can taste it! Any thoughts on what I should do or change? Is there a better approach than the one I've taken? Thanks in advance. UPDATE I've found an alternative solution using a ScrollViewer and an ItemsControl instead of a ListBox control. For the most part it's stable.

I am currently trying to figure out how to get a batch file to run correctly in Windows 7. I have looked on the Internet and have not had much success in finding any useful information on the issue I am encountering. The batch file is to open the workstation for students to use and it looks like it loads but the Welcome/Login Screen never appears as it should. I know it is connecting to the TDMS server as I can see it on the server. The only thing it does not do is bring up the window which is necessary to login to the testing server. iphone Dev - activity indicator with NSThread not working on Nav controller table view

I really can't get this to work, basically when my JSON feeds loads I want the indicator to show, then hide when it's stopped. It loads top level menu items 1st "Publishing, Broadcasting, Marketing Services", then when Broadcasting is selected it loads a feed using the JSON framework hosted on Google. Round this load I call startIndicator and stopIndicator using the NSThread. Ubuntu server has slow performance

I have a custom built Ubuntu 11.04 server with a 6 disk software RAID 10 primary drive. On it I'm primarily running a PostgreSQL and a few other utilities that stream data from the web. I often find after a few hours of uptime the server starts to lag with all kinds of processes. For example, it may take 10-15 seconds after log-in to get a shell prompt. It might take 5-10 seconds for top to come up. An ls might take a second or two. When I look at top there is almost no CPU usage. There's a fair amount of memory used by the PostgreSQL server but not enough to bleed into swap. I have no idea where to go from here, other than to suspect the RAID10 (I've only ever had software RAID 1's before). Xenserver 5.5 U2 a bit unstable with an unstable W2003 VM

In the last week I had to reboot the host system twice and the second one by means of the power button. The system is a Dell PE 6950 (4 Opteron dual core, 2,8 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 900 GB disk in a RAID 10 array composed by 4 450GB 15000 rpm disks) with XenServer 5.5 U2. We're installing it and at now there are working in production a 2003 32 bit Windows server VM with 2 GB RAM, 3 vcpu and about 200 GB disk in 4 partition (12 GB boot, 20 GB program, 80 GB user data, 80 GB other data). The first time I was compressing many Windows 2003 folders (some tens GB by means of W2003 compressed folder option) from a Windows remote console and some hours before my colleague installed Backup Exec agent that was alredy installed and that required a reboot (that was pending). The console stopped responding, it was no more possible to connect by means of remote console or by means of the console of the XenCentre, it was still possible from the network to use the shared folder of the VM and the programs on it (2 db and a GIS program), but the print server didn't work any more and I couldn't give remote reboot from other domain controller hosts. I couldn't stop the virtual machine neither from the XenCentre, neither from the command line of the host also forcing the reboot. I had to reboot the host server. Yesterday it has been worst. I installed a template of another VM, CentOS 5.3 and then, put the DVD in the drive of the host. Then, before the install and after the boot I checked for defect the DVD and the W2003 VM began to respond slowly (I was connected by means of an administration remote console) the task manager showed only mid or low load, it is, only the first of the 3 vcpu was loaded (about 70%), while the other two were about at 20% and also the disk I/O was not so heavy. Then the users were not so happy because they couldn't any more use the MS word docs on the server. I immediately stopped the check of the DVD (to do that I had to force the stop of such Centos 5.3 VM), then some users could again use their docs, but other had still problems, so I decided to reboot the VM, but it doesn't stopped, neither from XenCenter, neither from command line, neither forcing the reboot. Then I tried to reboot of the host, but it didn't worked, neither from the XenCentre, neither from the host prompt (shutdown -r now as root: it told that it was shutting down, but then it didn't did that). So I had to power off by means of the power button of the server (before I tried some Magic SyS REQ, but I saw that Xen isn't compiled with this option enabled). What could you suggest about my problem, what can I look, search and see? In the W2003 VM logs there are no errors or warning to explain what happened. Has anyone got any ideas about how these methods need to be modified so as to work with Haml Formtastic? What is causing the unusual high load average?

I noticed on Tuesday night of last week, the load average went up sharply and it seemed abnormal since the traffic is small. Usually, the numbers usually average around .40 or lower and my server stuff (mysql, php and apache) are optimized. Does anyone really understand how HFSC scheduling in Linux/BSD works?

I read the original SIGCOMM '97 PostScript paper about HFSC, it is very technically, but I understand the basic concept. Instead of giving a linear service curve (as with pretty much every other scheduling algorithm), you can specify a convex or concave service curve and thus it is possible to decouple bandwidth and delay. However, even though this paper mentions to kind of scheduling algorithms being used (real-time and link-share), it always only mentions ONE curve per scheduling class (the decoupling is done by specifying this curve, only one curve is needed for that). Now HFSC has been implemented for BSD (OpenBSD, FreeBSD, etc.) using the ALTQ scheduling framework and it has been implemented Linux using the TC scheduling framework (part of iproute2). Both implementations added two additional service curves, that were NOT in the original paper! A real-time service curve and an upper-limit service curve. Again, please note that the original paper mentions two scheduling algorithms (real-time and link-share), but in that paper both work with one single service curve. There never have been two independent service curves for either one as you currently find in BSD and Linux. Even worse, some version of ALTQ seems to add an additional queue priority to HSFC (there is no such thing as priority in the original paper either). I found several BSD HowTo's mentioning this priority setting (even though the man page of the latest ALTQ release knows no such parameter for HSFC, so officially it does not even exist). This all makes the HFSC scheduling even more complex than the algorithm described in the original paper and there are tons of tutorials on the Internet that often contradict each other, one claiming the opposite of the other one. This is probably the main reason why nobody really seems to understand how HFSC scheduling really works. Before I can ask my questions, we need a sample setup of some kind. I'll use a very simple one as seen in the image below: Here are some questions I cannot answer because the tutorials contradict each other: What for do I need a real-time curve at all? Assuming A1, A2, B1, B2 are all 128 kbit/s link-share (no real-time curve for either one), then each of those will get 128 kbit/s if the root has 512 kbit/s to distribute (and A and B are both 256 kbit/s of course), right? Why would I additionally give A1 and B1 a real-time curve with 128 kbit/s? What would this be good for? To give those two a higher priority? According to original paper I can give them a higher priority by using a curve, that's what HFSC is all about after all. By giving both classes a curve of [256kbit/s 20ms 128kbit/s] both have twice the priority than A2 and B2 automatically (still only getting 128 kbit/s on average) Does the real-time bandwidth count towards the link-share bandwidth? E.g. if A1 and B1 both only have 64kbit/s real-time and 64kbit/s link-share bandwidth, does that mean once they are served 64kbit/s via real-time, their link-share requirement is satisfied as well (they might get excess bandwidth, but lets ignore that for a second) or does that mean they get another 64 kbit/s via link-share? So does each class has a bandwidth "requirement" of real-time plus link-share? Or does a class only have a higher requirement than the real-time curve if the link-share curve is higher than the real-time curve (current link-share requirement equals specified link-share requirement minus real-time bandwidth already provided to this class)? Is upper limit curve applied to real-time as well, only to link-share, or maybe to both? Some tutorials say one way, some say the other way. Some even claim upper-limit is the maximum for real-time bandwidth + link-share bandwidth? What is the truth? Assuming A2 and B2 are both 128 kbit/s, does it make any difference if A1 and B1 are 128 kbit/s link-share only, or 64 kbit/s real-time and 128 kbit/s link-share, and if so, what difference? If I use the seperate real-time curve to increase priorities of classes, why would I need "curves" at all? Why is not real-time a flat value and link-share also a flat value? Why are both curves? The need for curves is clear in the original paper, because there is only one attribute of that kind per class. But now, having three attributes (real-time, link-share, and upper-limit) what for do I still need curves on each one? Why would I want the curves shape (not average bandwidth, but their slopes) to be different for real-time and link-share traffic? According to the little documentation available, real-time curve values are totally ignored for inner classes (class A and B), they are only applied to leaf classes (A1, A2, B1, B2). If that is true, why does the ALTQ HFSC sample configuration (search for 3.3 Sample configuration) set real-time curves on inner classes and claims that those set the guaranteed rate of those inner classes? Isn't that completely pointless? (note: pshare sets the link-share curve in ALTQ and grate the real-time curve; you can see this in the paragraph above the sample configuration). Some tutorials say the sum of all real-time curves may not be higher than 80% of the line speed, others say it must not be higher than 70% of the line speed. Which one is right or are they maybe both wrong? One tutorial said you shall forget all the theory. No matter how things really work (schedulers and bandwidth distribution), imagine the three curves according to the following "simplified mind model": real-time is the guaranteed bandwidth that this class will always get. link-share is the bandwidth that this class wants to become fully satisfied, but satisfaction cannot be guaranteed. In case there is excess bandwidth, the class might even get offered more bandwidth than necessary to become satisfied, but it may never use more than upper-limit says. For all this to work, the sum of all real-time bandwidths may not be above xx% of the line speed (see question above, the percentage varies). Question: Is this more or less accurate or a total misunderstanding of HSFC? And if assumption above is really accurate, where is prioritization in that model? E.g. every class might have a real-time bandwidth (guaranteed), a link-share bandwidth (not guaranteed) and an maybe an upper-limit, but still some classes have higher priority needs than other classes. In that case I must still prioritize somehow, even among real-time traffic of those classes. Would I prioritize by the slope of the curves? And if so, which curve? The real-time curve? The link-share curve? The upper-limit curve? All of them? Would I give all of them the same slope or each a different one and how to find out the right slope? I still haven't lost hope that there exists at least a hand full of people in this world that really understood HFSC and are able to answer all these questions accurately. And doing so without contradicting each other in the answers would be really nice ;-)

How to stop a ICMP attack?

We are under a heavy icmp flood attack. Tcpdump shows the result below. Altough we have blocked ICMP with iptables tcpdump still prints icmp packets. I've also attached iptables configuration and "top" result. Is there any thing I can do to completely stop icmp packets? CS Master's Degree Project vs. Thesis options

I'm doing a master's degree in computer science, and I'm currently at the point where I have to decide between the thesis and non-thesis options offered by my university. The thesis option was my first choice, it entails taking less courses but tends to take more time doing your thesis. The non-thesis option involves taking more coursework, taking a comprehensive exam, and doing a project in one semester with a faculty member. I'd like to pursue a PhD degree eventually (although not right away, I want to get some years of professional experience first), and I heard that having demonstrated the ability to work on a thesis helps a lot with admission (like: not doing thesis raises questions and suggests not being interested in research) and that the experience itself is very good. At the same time, almost everyone I know who did a thesis at my university took a long time (2-3 years), in theory it could be done in 1.5 years. I'm a part time student and I don't really want to spend so much time just getting a master's degree, I could still publish a few papers while working on the project option and I'd be done in a year or so, additionally, I heard having a master's degree with a project and more coursework is more desirable for the industry. So, when applying for a PhD degree in CS at some of the better universities, would the time spent working on the master's thesis help in getting me accepted? Or should I opt for the non-thesis option and hope that the extra coursework and publishing some papers would make up for not working on a thesis?

Recurrence relation solution

I'm revising past midterms for a final exam this week and am trying to make sense of a solution my professor posted for one of past exams. (You can see the original pdf here, question #6). I'm given the original recurrence relation T(m)=3T(n/2) + n and am told T(1) = 1. I'm pretty sure the solution I've been given is wrong in a few places. The solution is as follows: Let n=2^m T(2^m) = 3T(2^(m-1)) + 2^m 3T(2^(m-1)) = 3^2*T(2^(m-2)) + 2^(m-1)*3 ... 3^(m-1)T(2) = T(1) + 2*3^(m-1) I'm pretty sure this last line is incorrect and they forgot to multiply T(1) by 3^m. He then (tries to) sum the expressions: T(2^m) = 1 + (2^m + 2^(m-1)*3 + ... + 2*3(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m(1 + (3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^(m-1)) = 1 + 2^m((3/2)^m-1)*(1/2) = 1 + 3^m - 2^(m-1) = 1 + n^log 3 - n/2 Thus the algorithm is big Theta of (n^log 3). I'm pretty sure that he also got the summation wrong here. By my calculations this should be as follows: T(2^m) = 2^m + 3 * 2^(m-1) + 3^2 * 2^(m-2) + ... + 3^m (3^m because 3^m*T(1) = 3^m should be added, not 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^1 + (3/2)^2 + ... + (3/2)^m) = 2^m * sum of (3/2)^i from i=0 to m = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(3/2 - 1) = 2^m * ((3/2)^(m+1) - 1)/(1/2) = 2^(m+1) * 3^(m+1)/2^(m+1) - 2^(m+1) = 3^(m+1) - 2 * 2^m Replacing n = 2^m, and from that m = log n T(n) = 3*3^(log n) - 2*n n is O(3^log n), thus the runtime is big Theta of (3^log n) Does this seem right? Hi, I'm porting an application with EJBs 2.1 from Weblogic9 to JBoss AS5. I have made some of the changes like adding jboss.xml descriptors to EJBs and fixing application.xml of the EAR, but there are still problems when deploying the EAR. Custom UITableViewCell not properly hiding views

I am using apple's custom table view cell code and modifying the drawRect code within the cell's view to look like I want it to. I've changed it to have some UILabels as well as a UIProgressView. If the data the cell is being built on doesn't have a certain field, I want the UIProgressView to be hidden. This works for a little while, but when a cell gets requeued, the progress view will start displaying again, even when I set it to hidden = YES. I've tried just not creating the ProgressView unless the data was there and that didn't work either. I thought the answer was in the [self setNeedsDisplay] but that doesn't seem to help. Troubleshooting latency spikes on ESXi NFS datastores

I'm experiencing fsync latencies of around five seconds on NFS datastores in ESXi, triggered by certain VMs. I suspect this might be caused by VMs using NCQ/TCQ, as this does not happen with virtual IDE drives. This can be reproduced using fsync-tester (by Ted Ts'o) and ioping. For example using a Grml live system with a 8GB disk: Linux 2.6.33-grml64: root@dynip211 /mnt/sda # ./fsync-tester fsync time: 5.0391 fsync time: 5.0438 fsync time: 5.0300 fsync time: 0.0231 fsync time: 0.0243 fsync time: 5.0382 fsync time: 5.0400 [... goes on like this ...] That is 5 seconds, not milliseconds. (reiserfs /dev/sda): request=12 time=4950.0 ms When I move the first VM to local storage it looks perfectly normal: root@dynip211 /mnt/sda # ./fsync-tester fsync time: 0.0191 fsync time: 0.0201 fsync time: 0.0203 fsync time: 0.0206 fsync time: 0.0192 fsync time: 0.0231 fsync time: 0.0201 [... tried that for one hour: no spike ...] Things I've tried that made no difference: Tested several ESXi Builds: 381591, 348481, 260247 Tested on different hardware, different Intel and AMD boxes Tested with different NFS servers, all show the same behavior: OpenIndiana b147 (ZFS sync always or disabled: no difference) OpenIndiana b148 (ZFS sync always or disabled: no difference) Linux 2.6.32 (sync or async: no difference) It makes no difference if the NFS server is on the same machine (as a virtual storage appliance) or on a different host Guest OS tested, showing problems: Windows 7 64 Bit (using CrystalDiskMark, latency spikes happen mostly during preparing phase) Linux 2.6.32 (fsync-tester + ioping) Linux 2.6.38 (fsync-tester + ioping) I could not reproduce this problem on Linux 2.6.18 VMs. Another workaround is to use virtual IDE disks (vs SCSI/SAS), but that is limiting performance and the number of drives per VM. Update 2011-06-30: The latency spikes seem to happen more often if the application writes in multiple small blocks before fsync. For example fsync-tester does this (strace output): pwrite(3, "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"..., 1048576, 0) = 1048576 fsync(3) = 0 ioping does this while preparing the file: [lots of pwrites] pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1036288) = 4096 pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1040384) = 4096 pwrite(3, "********************************"..., 4096, 1044480) = 4096 fsync(3) = 0 The setup phase of ioping almost always hangs, while fsync-tester sometimes works fine. Is someone capable of updating fsync-tester to write multiple small blocks? My C skills suck ;) Update 2011-07-02: This problem does not occur with iSCSI. I tried this with the OpenIndiana COMSTAR iSCSI server. But iSCSI does not give you easy access to the VMDK files so you can move them between hosts with snapshots and rsync. I was not able to reproduce this problem using FreeNAS (based on FreeBSD) as a NFS server. The wireshark captures showed TCP window updates to 29127 bytes in regular intervals. I did not see them with OpenIndiana, which uses larger window sizes by default. I can no longer reproduce this problem if I set the following options in OpenIndiana and restart the NFS server: ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_recv_hiwat 8192 # default is 128000 ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_max_buf 1048575 # default is 1048576 But this kills performance: Writing from /dev/zero to a file with dd_rescue goes from 170MB/s to 80MB/s. Update 2011-07-07: I've uploaded this tcpdump capture (can be analyzed with wireshark). In this case 192.168.250.2 is the NFS server (OpenIndiana b148) and 192.168.250.10 is the ESXi host. Things I've tested during this capture: Started "ioping -w 5 -i 0.2 ." at time 30, 5 second hang in setup, completed at time 40. Started "ioping -w 5 -i 0.2 ." at time 60, 5 second hang in setup, completed at time 70. Started "fsync-tester" at time 90, with the following output, stopped at time 120: fsync time: 0.0248 fsync time: 5.0197 fsync time: 5.0287 fsync time: 5.0242 fsync time: 5.0225 fsync time: 0.0209 2nd Update 2011-07-07: Tested another NFS server VM, this time NexentaStor 3.0.5 community edition: Shows the same problems.
