• Acer Aspire 3820TG video card driver issue for Windows 8 Pro

  The model for Acer laptop is ATI mobility Radeon 5650. I am using Windows 8 Pro from MSDN. It was working fine until two days ago when Microsoft pushes an update. After the update, my video card stops working and I only see black screen after loading splash screen. I can go in Safe Mode. I tried to install driver from AMD website but it failed with error message "load detection driver failed". Anyone else have the same issue? Any idea how to solve this? I need to go in Win8 for my latest development.

  I'm trying to get Cyrus IMAP (v 2.2 on Ubuntu 9.04) setup and working, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the login working correctly. I've created a mailbox for my test user "nrahl": cm user/nrahl and then created a password: $ saslpasswd2 nrahl I'm attempting to connect to the mailbox using Thunderbird. I'm using the machine's LAN IP address as the host, and "nrahl" as the username. It connects to the server and prompts me for the password.   I've just downloaded LibreOffice 4.1.3 (twice) on a newly refurbished Windows 7 Thinkpad. When I click the .msi to install, I get "This installation package could not be opened. I also tried 4.1.2 and 4.0.6 also, after 4.1.3 failed. 4.1.2 started fine, but encountered an error and failed to install. 4.0.6 fails in the same way as 4.1.3.   Today is SQL day for me :) I have a maintenance plan that is failing to run with the following error: Failed:(-1073548784) Executing the query "USE [SharedServices1_DB]" failed with the following error: "Database 'SharedServices1_DB' cannot be opened because it is offline.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. where SharedServices1_DB is a database that is set to offline. I would like to exclude this database from the maintenance plan, but when the database is offline, it does not show up at all as a "specific database" in the maintenance plan task, and if I bring it online, it is already unchecked in the maintenance plan task. How can I exclude an offline database from a maintenance plan?

  I'm trying to install phpmyadmin on my webserver, using this guide: http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_debian_lamp_server I did that once, and it worked like a dream, but I hated the looks of phpmyadmin (maybe the oldest layout ever) and decided to delete it, and didn't know that deleting is done with apt-get remove phpmyadmin and did in phpmyadmin directory rm * and thought that it's done. However, as I can't find the debian build of phpmyadmin anywhere, I want to install it again, but when I add Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf to /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, and restart apache, it give's me this error: apache2: Syntax error on line 73 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf: No such file or directory Action 'configtest' failed. The Apache error log may have more information. failed! No matter how I try, I always get this error, and phpmyadmin isn't there.

  I am doing log shipping between two Amazon EC2 instances running Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2 standard edition. Both the instances are in the same domain and I can access the shared folders between the instances. The SQL server service account, agent service account are all running under a domain account. When I activate log shipping (with stand by mode restore in secondary server), the initial backup gets restored on the secondary. • Can't mount time capsule via wi-fi.

  I have an Apple time capsule, and have been able to back up to it without a problem for the past few months. However, today I found I cannot connect to the time capsule from Finder, though it appears there, when I click "connect as...", it takes a few seconds and then reports connect failed, "the server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again". When I check Time Machine, it says the last backup failed because "the backup volume could not be mounted". The strange part is, the time capsule is also my router, and I am able to use the time capsule as a wireless access point without a problem. Any ideas?

• Image file can't be opened by windows store app if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk

  My question is described below: I have two disks, external hard disk and removable disk. They are formatted with EXT4. I put the same image in the disks, and use Ext2Fsd to mount the disks. I open the file in win8, and it will default open by the windows store app : photos. It will be success to open if the file is in the Ext4's removable disk. It will be failed to open if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk. I don't know why it will be failed to open if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk. Does anyone have similar experiences?

Both failed and both required me to do some magic to uninstall Exchange, and try installation again. Feel free to shoot your ideas what can be done to resolve the error. In the end I will install HyperV and put Exchange 2010 on different server but that's not what the server owner wanted.

  Hi, I'm trying to backup my SBS 08 (only C:) with Windows Server Backup. It fails a few minutes after it started : Backup started at '08/12/2009 1:27:23 PM' failed as Volume Shadow copy operation failed for backup volumes with following error code '2155348022'. Please rerun backup once issue is resolved. In the EventViewer i have lots of error : VSS : 12289 SQLVDI : 1 MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE : 18210 MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE : 3041 SQLWRITER : 24583 All VSS ans SQL services are started. • Tomcat can't talk to MySql after outage

  I missed a payment for my server and hey suspended my account for a day or so. When they brought the server back up all my data was in tact but for some reason Tomcat can't make a JDBC connection to my MySql server. They both run on the same machine and hence I have a bind address of 127.0.0.1. It's strange because I have reset the machine of my own accord before without issue but clearly something has been reset in the downtime. I followed this guide (Just the bits which don't concern S3, I am not on Amazon infrastructure) originally and everything worked as expected. I'm very new to being a SysAdmin and I'm not sure what to try, how would you go about diagnosing this issue? • Has the hardware in my modem gone bad?

  I contacted CenturyLink about my modem recently and received useless and unrelated information. The problem seems to be that the modem will no longer save settings, the web interface is unusable except in internet explorer for some reason, and the modem keeps resetting. CenturyLink claimed it had to do with signal strength but I checked and it is currently between good and outstanding according to this. All of the lights remain green even when it starts acting up and I lose internet and shortly before it crashes and reboots. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or what I can do to fix it? (Asking CenturyLink again is obviously not going to help.) Update 1: Accessing the syslog from the web interface causes a crash. • rsync chown warning

  I try to sync two directories using rsync. the source is on Linux, and the other is on windows. So, I mount the directory on windows using the command mount -t cifs ..... in Linux system. Then I execute rsync .... Everything is OK, but rsync prints out rsync: chown "/mnt/windows/A/." failed: Permission denied (13) rsync: chown "/mnt/windows/A/readme.txt" failed: Permission denied (13) I want to sync the directories without changing ownership. • Hylafax / Capi4hylafax: faxgetty does not recognize number of lines

  We've got a T.30 card, 30 working lines on it, but for some reason, if I add more then 30 faxes in the queue at any time (and we're busy enough at peak times that this happens a lot), faxgetty sends faxes to non-existent lines and they appear in the error queue as a 'busy' signal on the line, which results in a lot of failed faxes because the counter of max 3 tries increases rapidly. This is using faxgetty (USE_FAXGETTY="y" in /etc/default/hylafax). I've inherited this thing, so I'm not entirely sure how faxgetty is supposed to know the number of lines. However, if I alter the script to faxmodem (USE_FAXGETTY="n" in /etc/default/hylafax and manually enabling 30 modems), this behavior goes away (new faxes 'wait' for a line to be available before trying to send, so each try / fail is a valid one on a working line, majorly descreasing the amount of failed faxes. However, when researching this almost anyone talks about faxgetty being the preferred, more robust, method, and on top of that for some unexplained reason all FIFO's disappeared for some reason after several errorless hours with faxmodem, forcing a hylafax restart using faxgetty until we figured out why this faxmodem solution failed (which is another question, and somewhat out of scope here). (the man page isn't terribly revealing, and I can't find an appropriate setting in hylafax-config. And how can I get a capi4hylafax/hylafax setup which queues more faxes then lines are available correctly without immediately incrementing the fail count? We will not be receiving any faxes on this machine b.t.w. As I said, I've inherited this thing, so if there are important configuration options I'm not including, please let me know.

  I am trying to install MS SQL Database 2005 on Windows XP Home SP3. It fails giving no reason ("Database failed to install"), then exits. I had already installed MS SQL Database Express Edition 2008 during 2005 setup. But when I removed 2008 one and tried to install 2005 afterwards it still failed with same error. The error happens when I am trying to install Dragon Age Toolset or Visual 2008 Pro edition. I do not known which else informations may be valuable as I never before encountered problems with installing MS database

• Virtual box lost files

  I have been running Virtual Box on a Macbook Pro for a year or more, with an old version of Windows XP running on the virtual machine. Recently my Mac battery dies completely and I had left VB / Windows running. When I re-started the Mac, VB would not load. I reinstalled a recent download of VB from a DMG file I had stored. Now VB starts but when I try to start the virtual machine I get the following message, Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP. Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WRITE_NON_SYS_GROUP). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb} I have been backing up the MAC using Time Machine and have backups going back months. I really need to access the windows files as they have my Accounts and other business critical stuff. Any ideas please, or does anyone know where I can get some support for this combination of hardware / software, apologies I am a novice in this area. Thanks in advance.
