  • How do I install the build dependencies for Android?

    Hi, I'm trying build the Android source using these packages. ButI am getting this error: $ sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg flex bison gperf build-essential zip curl zlib1g-dev gcc-multilib g++-multilib libc6-dev-i386 lib32ncurses5-dev ia32-libs x11proto-core-dev libx11-dev lib32readline5-dev lib32z-dev [sudo] password for asdf: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package libc6-dev-i386 E: Unable to locate package lib32ncurses5-dev E: Unable to locate package ia32-libs E: Unable to locate package lib32readline5-dev E: Unable to locate package lib32z-dev I tried to download & install say libc6-dev-i386 debian package form here. But when I double click on the .deb file Ubuntu Software Manager says wrong architecture 'amd64'. (My OS: 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 (updated), Processor: AMD phenom II 64-bit.)

  • So with HTML5 what exactly.....is "supposed" to become phased out.

    So I know HTML5 is the "replacement" for Flash...however it's obviously not mainstream just yet......but what else is it supposed to replace. I ask this because web-dev has always been a secret kinda side-passion of mine (even though I a firmware programmer mostly doing C/Java stuff). And anyway I want to pursue a side thing at doing web design (I know basic XHTML/CSS + some CSS3) But what exactly is I guess...."pointless" to study? JavaScript I assume will always be a huge part of web design? (HTML5 isn't replacing that is it?) What about Ajax and CSS itself?) And then there's Flash....not sure if thats really worth putting effort into? Also there's Adobe Flex/Air......I'm a bit confused if you can't tell.

  • What options are there for splitting UI layout from code logic using a markup language?

    What tools similar to GWT's UIBinder exist in other languages? By this I mean a system where you can define your UI layout in a markup language (preferably html+css) and attach the functionality to the layout using the code. I'm most interested in anything for python, but answers in other languages would interest me as well. I'm interested because the benefits of having a non-programmer work directly on the layout without needing to touch the code and adjust a bunch of UI toolkit method calls is very productive. I'm aware of Flex for flash, but is there anything else out there? What search terms might I use to find such frameworks? I've looked around but I haven't found anything concrete.

  • Introduce unit testing when codebase is already available

    I've been working on a project in Flex for three years now without unit testing. The simple reason for that is the fact that I just didn't realize the importance of unit testing when being at the beginning of studies at university. Now my attitude towards testing changed completely and therefore I want to introduce it to the existing project (about 25000LOC). In order to do it, there are two approaches to choose from: 1) Discard the existing codebase and start from scratch with TDD 2) Write the tests and try to make them pass by changing the existing code Well, I would appreciate not having to write everything from scratch but I think by doing this, the design would be much better. My question is: As a beginner, is it a good idea to start with a framework like Flixel, FlashPunk or PushButton or would it be better to write my first games from scratch?     At Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company, we have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers has a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Our team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux and Windows servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? If a reference to the host/domain names occurs on hundreds of our pages, the variables or objects would replace that. (3) This is part of making these JavaScript modules portable and re-usable for different environments and instances. The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex, PostgreSQL and MySQL.

  • What technology(s)would be suitable for the front end part of a Java web game?

    As asked in a previous question, I'm looking to create a small MMO that will be deployed onto GAE. I'm confused about what technologies I could use for the user interface, I've considered the following JSP Pages - I've got experience with JSP/JSTL and I would find this easy to work with, it would require the user having to "submit" the page each time they perform an action so may become a little clumsey for players. Applet - I could create an applet that sits on the front end and communicates to the back end game engine, however I'm not sure how good this method would be and have not used applets since university.. What other options do I have? I don't have any experience in Flash/Flex so there would be a big learning curve there. Are there any other Java based options I may be able to use? My game will be text based, I may use some images, but I'm not intending to have any animations/graphics etc Thanks

  • The Web Hosting Connundrum for "not quite" developers

    Hey all, Apologies if this post feels like its been covered elsewhere, but I don't think it has. I've been down a winding web hosting road. To date, I've tried: Joyent, Media Temple, Bluehost, Hostgator, and finally Linode. The reason for switching are likely obvious to everyone: speed. With the exception of the lightening fast Linode, all of the shared hosts are absolutely sloooow. What do do when you're not really a "developer" While I'v grown addicted to the speed of Linode, I really don't feel like its where I should be. I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that one of these days (likely soon), I'm going to run into something that i won't be able to figure out and i'll have days worth of downtime. Just the other day, for example, I realized that one of my domains wasn't sending emails. After 4(!) hours looking into the problem, I still can't get sendmail or postfix to work. Four hours!! I want to be a Drupal expert, not a Ubuntu expert That's really the heart of my problem: I spend way too much time learning Ubuntu's ins-and-outs, and not nearly enough time working on Drupal. So here goes: Is there a web host out there anywhere that offers the speed of Linode, but will let me focus on Drupal instead of sys-admin-ing? Thanks! [ I know, I know. There are going to be lots of people who read this saying - "just learn Ubuntu like a real developer". And I get that. I do. But when I work full-time and try and develop some of these sites in my evenings and weekends, I'm really feeling like the sys-admin stuff gets in the way.

The questions are: Is still SVG platform is widely adopted by browsers (without any plug-ins) are at least down the line of 8-10 months, any adoption is expected by browsers?     I am coming from Flex where you can do just about anything inside of curly braces. I am trying to get a TextBlock to display today's Date and Time without just coding it in C#. I have tried many different variations of the following with no luck. TextBlock Text="{Source=Date, Path=Now, StringFormat='dd/MM/yyyy'}" I know I could probably just set a property MyDate and bind to that but why can't I bind directly to the DateTime.Now property?

  • Is there a way to simulate a remote AMF call with WCAT?

    I managed to use WCAT to test an url for an aspx page getting an asset. Now I would like to use it to test a remote call to WebORB from Flex. Problem is I don't know what to put in RequestData, RequestHeader, ... If I look with Charles (HTTP Monitor), then it's impossible to copy paste the request data (it has squares and all kind of weird characters that can't be copy paste to my txt file).

    Are there any workarounds to get the Flex compiler to work with a 64bit JRE? If I use an MXMLC task in an Ant buildfile in Eclipse it works fine but if I try to use MXMLC from the command line (or try the Run... command from FDT in Eclipse) it fails, telling me ... "Error loading: C:\Program Files\Java\jrrt-1.6.0\jre\bin\jrockit\jvm.dll" (this is with a 64bit JRockit runtime but that shouldn't matter).
