  • How to stop Vista changing folder views?

    In Windows Vista, I've set the "list view" to apply to all folders under folder options. This works fine until I change the view of any one folder to something else (say, extra large thumbnails). Then suddenly, every folder uses that extra large view. But if I switch it back to list view, this never gets applied for all folders - they're still using the extra large view. Obviously I can go to folder options AGAIN and apply list view to all folders AGAIN, but it makes no sense why this happens in the first place. Changing the view once applies it to all folders, but doing exactly the same again doesn't... is there a way around this?

  • Why can I browse to localhost, not to my computer name? (IIS7) [closed]

    I'm not very clued up on IIS, but I'm trying to do something that I thought would be quite simple. In IE, if I browse to http://localhost:80, I am greeted with a pretty picture with a bunch of welcome messages and a big "IIS7", thanks to the graphic designers at Microsoft. In IE, if I browse to http://mycomputername:80, I'm greeted with 404. It may be my fault... perhaps I've done something weird. Chrome replies 404 to either of those. Should this work, and if so, what am I doing wrong, or what can I do to get it to work? What might cause this to happen and how can I fix it? EDIT To add a bit more information. I did find after posting this question that http://localhost:80 was the only URL I could access on my local PC. I could not access any of the virtual sub-directories on localhost via my browser.

  • "Access is denied" JavaScript error when trying to access the document object of a programmatically-

    I have project in which I need to create an <iframe> element using JavaScript and append it to the DOM. After that, I need to insert some content into the <iframe>. It's a widget that will be embedded in third-party websites. I don't set the "src" attribute of the <iframe> since I don't want to load a page; rather, it is used to isolate/sandbox the content that I insert into it so that I don't run into CSS or JavaScript conflicts with the parent page. I'm using JSONP to load some HTML content from a server and insert it in this <iframe>. I have this working fine, with one serious exception - if the document.domain property is set in the parent page (which it may be in certain environments in which this widget is deployed), Internet Explorer (probably all versions, but I've confirmed in 6, 7, and 8) gives me an "Access is denied" error when I try to access the document object of this <iframe> I've created. It doesn't happen in any other browsers I've tested in (all major modern ones). This makes some sense, since I'm aware that Internet Explorer requires you to set the document.domain of all windows/frames that will communicate with each other to the same value. However, I'm not aware of any way to set this value on a document that I can't access. Is anyone aware of a way to do this - somehow set the document.domain property of this dynamically created <iframe>? Or am I not looking at it from the right angle - is there another way to achieve what I'm going for without running into this problem? I do need to use an <iframe> in any case, as the isolated/sandboxed window is crucial to the functionality of this widget.   • Elements of website don't work in IE

    On the site I'm working on for my high school basketball team, certain elements don't work in Internet Explorer. The site is hermantownbasketball.com. The boys basketball sidebar should have nested drop down menus, one when you mouse over the team, such as "High School" and then another when you mouse over the grade under the team, such as 9th grade. This works perfectly fine in chrome, however, I can't get it to work in any version of Internet Explorer. Below is the part of the html and the corresponding css I am using. Unfortunately, I don't know enough css to know which part of my code IE doesn't like or how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated!   • Any way to remove IEs black border around submit button in active forms?

    I am implementing a design that uses custom styled submit-buttons. They are quite simply light grey buttons with a slightly darker outer border: input.button { background: #eee; border: 1px solid #ccc; } This looks just right in Firefox, Safari and Opera. The problem is with Internet Explorer, both 6 and 7. Since the form is the first one on the page, it's counted as the main form - and thus active from the get go. The first submit button in the active form receives a solid black border in IE, to mark it as the main action. If I turn off borders, then the black extra border in IE goes away too. I am looking for a way to keep my normal borders, but remove the outline.

    Dear all, I am tasked with a project that requires me to retreieve a specific file from a folder where I can only get an X and Y on the screen. While in XP I managed to use the fact that windows explorer is in essence a list view, and used the WM_HITTEST message to obtain information about the file, in Windows 7, this is not the case. To solve this problem, I am using UI Automation, which is a great tool for such things, only problem is that in the case, the windows handle I am looking at belongs to the desktop, and the desktop might have several files with the same name but with different extensions (and windows is configured to "hide extensions of known file types") UI automation does not return the extension back to me. I have tried many things, but I cannot find any robust solution which would give me 100% success. Has anyone tried this? successfully? Would appreciate any pointers. Many thanks,

    Hi, I have a C#-application running on Windows 7. I am using Watin to test some flash and quicktime movies in Internet Explorer. I am running in x64 mode due to some memory limitations I encountered in x86-mode. So I run my application which uses Watin, which starts MSIE. Watin starts the 64-bit version of MSIE. So far so good. The problem is, flash and quicktime do not seem to work in MSIE 64-bit, so testing playing of movies will not work. What must be done to run my C# application in 64-bit mode but to get Watin to run MSIE in 32-bit mode?

  • IE8 error with Certificate

    I have installed a certificate with multiple Common Names on a Red Hat server in the jks format. The web page can be accessed with Firefox and the certificate gets imported. However, IE8 gives the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I added the cert with MMC and its properties shows "This certificate has an nonvalid digital signature.". Also the cert doesn't have the URL of the web page in it. The cert does have a valid signature in Firefox and the URL mismatch is ignored. How can I get IE8 to accept it. This cert is required for another Application (where it works fine) and cannot be changed except to change the format. I already have it in PKCS12, jks and pem formats.

  • Prevent IE users from visiting my site?

    Internet Explorer has caused me a lot of trouble over the years, between security problems, memory leaks, endless CSS and JavaScript hacks to get my site to look correct, and inconsistencies between releases, I've spent countless hours as the hapless victim of IE's idiosyncrasies. Well that ends today, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and ban all users of IE from visiting my website. That will teach them to use such a cruddy browser. My question is how best to do this? I don't want to rely on JavaScript, which could be disabled, nor the request agent string, which could be tampered with. A clever user could even temporarily switch to Firefox or Chrome just to visit my site. Ideally, I'd have a list of the IP addresses of every IE user in the world and restrict based on the IP address. The main problem I'm having, aside from getting the list in the first place, is how do I keep it updated? Thanks!

  • Displaying local images in the web browser control

    Hi, I am writing a Windows Forms application and am creating a report for users to view in the webBrowser control. The problem is that it does not seem to display an image which is situated on my local hard drive, it just display the "broken image" red cross symbol. The path of the image is correct and when I view the source code of the generated html in either Firefox or Chrome it works but not in Internet Explorer (which I presume it what is used for this webBrowser control).   • Google Docs viewer in IE

    Hey all, I've searched high and low for a solution, but can't find one. I'm using Google Docs Viewer to view PDF files. It's a great tool, but I can't seem to get it working in Internet Explorer (7 or 8). All my images come up as a 'missing' icon. If I view the file externally, it seems to load fine and it will start working (I'm assuming because the images are being cached). The document is being displayed in an iframe and works in all other browsers. Has anyone come across a solution to get it to work in IE? If not, is there an alternative that can display PPT and PDF files? Thanks

  • Div that should take up the "rest of the page" expands beyond the page in ie.

    Okay, this is REALLY starting to bug me... This page works fine in both Chrome and Firefox. www.bloggan.tk But if it's opened in internet-explorer it always expands beyond the page and introduces the scrollbar no matter what the resolution of the browser is. I have NO idea what change in the html it was that cause this... Here's the blogger-template-html-source I'd REALLY appreciate if someone could help me with this. Thanks in advance! Edit: I've "solved" it for IE using javascript, but that's only temporary (i hope). The version without javascript can be seen here, so that you still will be able to know what I'm talking about.   • Browser Helper Object doesnot get loaded in IE8

    I have a BHO, which i can see it as enabled in Add On's list. But it does not get loaded when i start my IE on the Win2k8 R2 machines(64 bit). I have disabled IE Enhanced security as well but no help. The same BHO gets loaded in other machines. The registry details under (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects & HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID) seem to be fine. Is there any setting that disables BHO from actually getting loaded?

  • Why is IE7 hiding my overflow when, as far as I can tell, all it's containing elements have overflow

    If you visit the site in question (haddongrant.com) and go to the Artwork section, if you click on an image and view it's stack in Safari, Chrome or Firefox you'll notice the images extend up and down the page, eventually disappearing over the edge. This is what you should be seeing. In Internet Explorer 7, however, the overflow gets cut off at some point before it ever gets to the end of the page. The problem is... I can't tell where! I've had a look and every containing element should show overflow. I don't know why IE7 isn't. Does anyone have any ideas where I might need to add an overflow-y:visible;?

  • Automated testing of a website for IE7 javascript errors?

    This week I decided to add a new element to a javascript array by copying a similar one from a previous line; unfortunately I forgot to remove the comma so the end result was something like var a = [1, 2, 3,]. The code went live late Friday afternoon just before everyone left for the week-end, and it completely broke everything in Internet Explorer 7 (and lower I assume) since it's such a great browser. Since there was no one to read emails (week-end) it went unnoticed for quite a while, and I really don't want something like this to happen again (especially in my code).. This is not the first of weird IE7 problems; I was wondering if there was a way to automatically test key pages looking for javascript or css errors, or really anything that IE8 would output in its new console in development tools. If there isn't, what do you usually do? You test the website after every change with all the browsers you support? (Something I'll do from now, at least for IE, if there is no way to run automated tests)

  • .NET AxWebBrowser can't open page "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error

    Oh, I am stuck again on this quiet annoying problem. I am trying to do a little automated browsing using the axWebBrowser component and it worked before. Now all of a sudden I get the following message when I try to browse to a page. Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. I totally disabled my firewall, ran VS2008 in Administrator mode, I even installed IE8 all to no avail. By the way IE8 doesn't work either. I don't know if the problem is related but all I get when I put a URL into IE8 is this message. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage I don't so much mind that, I just really need to get my visual studio axWebBrowser working.
