• Browser won't connect to svn server

  This has been driving me nuts. For some reason, I can't access my svn repository using a browser in this laptop that I'm using right now (firefox & ie) The connection just times out. I'm at home right now and the server is in another room. It connects OK there and it also connects OK in my virtual machine in this same laptop. I'm pretty stumped right now and can't figure out why this is happening. I've also checked the proxies and I'm 100% sure I'm not using any at all. The virtual machine running on this laptop is XP 32bit and this one is a Win7 64 bit. Thanks

• DLP projector has odd colors

  At my place of work, we have several different video projectors, but they all use DLP technology, and the colors are wrong: for instance, yellow looks more like green, and all other colors are similarly distorted. Any kind of presentation or collaborative work is hindered by these wrong colors. On the laptop screen, the colors are fine but on the projector (hooked up via normal short VGA cable, and showing the same image at the same time), the colors look wrong. This is not about one specific projector or one specific laptop; it seems that any combination of projector + laptop has the exact same problem. Someone said that DLP is poor technology, but that's not true. I'm using a DLP projector at home (regular PC connected via HDMI) and the colors are excellent. Still, there's some kind of curse on the machinery at work. How can we get decent colors?

  I have this idea, just want to see if it is implementable or not. Let say I have my office laptop, with no administrator privileges, using example domain ASDF Can I set at my home, another AD server (Microsoft or Samba 4), that have the same domain ASDF as my office laptop. Then I set an administrative user in my own AD server. Theoretically, is it possible to authenticate my office laptop with my own AD? If the above is possible, theoretically, is it possible to gain administrative privileges also with this setup? Thanks.

  Im about to get a 23inch Monitor to connect to my laptop for programming, and general multimedia besides. (this is the monitor what do you think? LG 23" LCD And would you recommend getting a keyboard to use (ie not using the laptop one?) seems like it would be kinda awkward otherwise. • Routing internet through ethernet to a computer without a Wireless adapter

  I'm setting up a small home network. I have a laptop which connects to internet wirelessly- that works fine. I have a desktop connected to this laptop by an ethernet cable which I'd like to access the internet with. In the past, I have used a different laptop to do this and had no problems doing so. Both computers run Windows 7. I have tried setting up a homegroup and disabling Windows firewall, as well as restarting both computers. I can share data but my internet connection can not be accessed through the desktop. (I understand USB network adapters are cheap, I have one on the way but that doesn't solve this issue.) Any help or live chat support if you'd prefer would be appreciated. Thanks!

• I just ordered 70/10 internet service, and need a new router I think?

  Before I had 25/5 service and the N standard router did just fine. Now it doesn't do the job. Online speedtest reads at 82 so I have the line. But my laptop is getting less than 30 in my room. • Unable to setup ssh tunnel on mac

  On my office windows XP laptop I use a program called Bitvise Tunnelier to establish ssh tunnel to a in-house MySQL database. In the Tunnelier program I also need to provide address of corporate http proxy server in order to establish tunnel. On my personal mac laptop, I use Cisco Anywhere client to establish a VPN connection to my corporate network. But i'm unable to establish ssh tunnel to mysql database using ssh. How do I specify the proxy server address in the ssh command? As additional info when i'm using office laptop (whether in home or office) I can successfully ping to the server address specified in the Tunnelier program. But i cannot ping the same server using my mac machine (even after connecting via VPN). So basically i'm unable to understand what's going on and what steps i can take to debug this problem .

  I have a (semi)-dead hard drive with an HP recovery partition on it. My goal is to Buy a new hard drive Copy the recovery partition to a drive ( dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=~/recovery.bak ) Make a new partition of 12000 mb with Windows 7 Copy back recovery partition to the new drive ( dd if=~/recovery.bak of=/dev/sdb1 ) Then press F11 when the laptop boots. However, this doesn't work. Any idea why? Edit: I suspect the F11 doesn't work because the laptop tries to boot the laptop, because my partition is the primary partition of the drive. Does anyone have any experience dealing with stuff like this?

• MAC and PC problems on home network

  Hello! At home we have a wireless router that my family want to use. We have our main computer physically connected to the router, and my laptop is connected wirelessly. When the network is like this then it is faultless. However, when my brother introduces is Apple MAC into the equation, both my laptop and the family machine gets all sorts of problems, primarily long load times and timeouts. The MAC, however, works fine. I think I've read something here or SF about a MAC continusly pinging a router which times it out, but I've not found any solution so far. Now I've decided to move it to be on my desktop PC, so I uninstalled Windows from my laptop, restoring the original OS came with the laptop (Vista Business), and installed Windows 7 on my desktop PC. The problem is that I cannot activate my copy of Windows 7 on the desktop PC.   I have a laptop running linux. In my xorg configuration, I have DPMS setup so that the screen automatically turns off during several events. When I close the lid of the laptop, the screen goes off as expected, but if a mouse event occurs (like if something bumps into the table...) then the screen turns back on even though it is closed (I can see the light through the side of the laptop). Is there a way to prevent the screen from turning on during a mouse event if the lid is closed?

  What is the easiest way to create this setup: WiFi internet router separate in one room. Study room: Laptop with USB printer connected with wifi. My room: Laptop connected with wifi. I want to be able to print from the "My room" laptop to the "Study room" printer, and also share files between them. What is the easiest way to do this? Note, the wireless router needs to be in a separate room for both laptops to be able to connect to it. I've tried configuring homegroups and stuff to do with IP addresses that I found on the internet but have had no success. I'm not an expert with PC's but I've tried hard so there is probably just some trick to do it. If someone can help that will be great.

  Microsoft lync makes my laptop boot very slowly and if I disable it from startup, the laptop boots fine and quick. However the issue is, if I start lync again, it puts an entry to startup. So I end up disabling again and again before every boot. I try to put my laptop into sleep only as much possible, however there are many times I need to start up. So, please suggest how to do any of the following? How to remove a program from start up, programatically or a windows setting? How to disable Microsoft lync to stop putting an entry into startup?

  One of the CPU fans on my Compaq Presario laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 seems to have bit the dust. The fan is deep within the case and I intend to replace the laptop in the next 6 months so it's not worth replacing it. I have the laptop on a cooling pad and most of the time the system is fine, CPU temps around 90°-110°F. Occasionally, however, I'm seeing random lockups which I believe is due to the system overheating. How can I configure the system to: Lower the CPU speed when the temperature reaches a certain level? (I.E. 110°F) Shutdown the system when the tempature reaches a critical level? (And what would that be? 130°?)

• Run a BitLocker protected Windows 7 installation on VirtualBox from physical drive

  I have a broken laptop with its hard drive intact. I'll be getting it repaired in a few days but I must continue my work possibly uninterrupted, so I chose to run the OS in another working laptop (I can't just transfer documents). My question is really simple: Can I create a virtual machine in VirtualBox (under Linux) that uses the physical hard drive mentioned above which is encrypted with BitLocker? I have the restore key at hand, of course. I wouldn't like to mount the hard disk as primary hard disk for laptop (and run 7 as primary OS), but that could be the final choice if virtualizing is not an option. Thank you.

I've disabled use default gateway in remote network on client machine, so client don't try to route all communication through VPN. • virtual machines: optimal host os to run Windows XP guest os?

  My department doesn't have the budget to upgrade my ailing Dell D620 laptop. However, I do have the option to buy my own personal computer, then use my company-issued ISO image to run Windows XP as my guest os using virtualbox or vmware. Therefore, last month, I bought an Acer AX3910-U3012 desktop that had Windows 7 as the host os (and 8G RAM). In short, I was disappointed with the performance while trying to run WinXP as the guest os. (It didn't perform much better than my laptop.) Just wondering what the optimal host os would be for running Windows XP as the guest os? (No, I can't use my company-issued ISO image to build the os for my personal computer.) FWIW, I'm willing to spend up to $2k if it's REALLY worth it, but would prefer to spend no more than $1k. Also, in an effort to cut costs, I'd prefer buy a desktop instead of a laptop. However, I tried another laptop with my home ADSL and it can load the page bbc.co.uk very fast. Now I do not know what could be the problem. Can anyone tell me what could cause the issue, please? • Booting from a USB drive that was originally a boot drive

  When Win 7 went RTM, I upgraded my laptop from XP. But to protect myself against the possibility of having data inaccessible, I got a new disk and put it in the laptop, and took the old (XP) disk and put it in a USB enclosure. I have no trouble accessing the data on the USB drive under Windows 7. But I would like to be able to plug it in, tell the BIOS to boot from the USB drive, and be back on my old machine. The laptop is a Dell Precision M90, and it has a boot from USB option in its boot menu. But when I try to do that, it does read the drive, gets as far as putting up the Windows XP splash screen and starting the boot progress bar, and then reboots. What do I need to do to the old disk now running on USB to allow the machine to boot from it?

• Wireless driver not detected by Windows 8

  I've a problem in my wireless driver on windows 8. I bought a new X500L Asus laptop and installed windows 8 on it. However the driver CD I got with the laptop doesn't support my laptop. The CD says it's designed for Windows 8.1. I tired finding Wireless driver model and finding driver online and installing and that hasn't worked either, the wireless driver is shown at the device manager as not installed. I tired live booting the computer with a live CD of Linux and that also doesn't pick up my wireless driver. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks

• Setting up a proxy for FTP - Windows

  Hi folks, I have 2 windows machines and a server. 1 is my laptop, the other is a workstation that the IP of which is white-listed on the server. The laptop has a dynamic IP, so the IP cannot be white-listed. I would like to be able to perform FTP transfers from my laptop to the server, while using the workstation as a proxy. Both machines are using Windows 7. Is this possible? Help would be amazing!
