Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 11.1.1.7 adds Oracle ADF Tooling Support

Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 11.1.1.7 is now available and includes first-time support for Oracle ADF development in Eclipse. Installers for OEPE 11.1.1.7 as well as Eclipse Update instructions can be found on the OEPE downloads page. Here is an overview of the new features of OEPE 11.1.1.7: Support for Oracle ADF Faces Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 11.1.1.7 now provides support for development with Oracle ADF 11.1.1.4. These features focus on enablement and configuration of the ADF Runtime with Eclipse and WebLogic Server 10.3.4 as well as design time tools for ADF Faces. A new OEPE 11.1.1.7 installer bundles WebLogic Server 10.3.4, Coherence 3.6, and Oracle ADF 11.1.1.4. New Server Extensions allow you to download and install the ADF Runtime libraries into an existing WebLogic Server from within Eclipse. New Project Templates and Facets are available for ADF Faces development (ADF Web). New ADF validators with QuickFix options will check common descriptors for the appropriate ADF configurations. ADF-enabled JSP templates supporting multiple layouts are available under the New menu. New Remote and Local run/deploy support for ADF applications to WebLogic Server 10.3.4 The Palette now supports drag and drop of ADF Faces and Data Visualization Tools (DVT) tags and includes editors for eash tag configuration. The Eclipse Property Sheet has been enhanced to provide advanced ADF tag configuration. AppXRay dependency engine provides improved validation, code completion, and hyperlink navigation for ADF Faces and DVT Tags The Eclipse Web Page Editor enables a more productive source editing experience for ADF Faces. UI Consolidation for WebLogic Server Tools Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 11.1.1.7 includes a more streamlined UI for WebLogic Server development. You can now view deployments within the Servers view to understand which modules have been deployed to the domain. The MBean Browser View has been merged with the Servers view enabling easier access to MBean values while still allowing Drag and Drop to WLST scripts. WebLogic Server configuration options have been moved to the Properties window, right-click a server configuration and select Properties.

How to use semantic markup and Google Places to assist in local search SEO?

In this article, adding additional localized markup is supposed to help your site's SEO. ie. <div itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Organization"> <span itemprop="name">Search Engine People</span> <span itemprop="address" itemscope itemtype="http://data-vocabulary.org/Address"> <span itemprop="street-address">100 Westney Road South Unit 200, Building E</span> <span itemprop="locality">Ajax</span>, <span itemprop="region">ON</span> <span itemprop="country-name">Canada</span> <span itemprop="postal-code">L1S 7H3</span> </div> What about a site that contains valid localized results, where the actual business location is not relevant. For example, a site with valid local results from San Francisco, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Should these tags be added to the localized results, and has anyone got any experience with how much adding these tags have improved results? In terms of Google Places, however, they seem to ask for the business' actual physical location. Is there a way to use Google Places in the aforementioned example to assist in SEO?

Frank Buytendijk on Prahalad, Business Best Practices

In his video on the questionable value of some business best practices, Frank Buytendijk mentions a recent HBR article by business guru C.K. Prahalad. I just learned that Prahalad passed away this past weekend at the age of 68. (Information Week obit) A couple of years ago I had the good fortune to attend Mr. Prahalad’s keynote address at a Gartner event. He had an audience of software architects absolutely mesmerized as he discussed technology’s role in the changing nature of business competition. The often dysfunctional relationship between IT and business has and will probably always be hot-button issue. But during Prahalad’s keynote, there was a palpable sense that the largely technical audience was having some kind of breakthrough, that they had achieved a new level of understanding about the importance of the relationship between the two camps. Fortunately, Prahalad leaves behind a significant body of work that will remain a valuable resource as business and the technology that supports it continues to evolve. BUILD 2013 Session–What’s New In XAML

Tim Heuer proceeded to try to fit as many of the changes and additions to XAML as he could in one hour. There were a number of improvements that struck me. The first was the fact that we no longer need to put stack panels in the AppBar in order to add buttons. This has been changed to a CommandBar which at the very least makes the markup read more cleanly. Now if they would just bring this same improvement to Windows Phone we would be set. There was a lot of cheering at the beginning of his talk when he showed that there are now date time pickers. I understand that it makes life easier, but I just couldn’t get that excited. The couple of features that did grab my attention being able to select a group of tags and then add an encapsulating tag such as a StackPanel around them and the fact that they have optimized XAML so that now runs on average 25% faster. Hot to get website/product reviews reflected in Google's search results using review-aggregate format

I am managing a website called Rent A Boat Amsterdam. We have a system that gathers reviews from people that have used our services and that publishes these customer reviews making them available for all website visitors. When these customer reviews are published we have placed them within the appropriate tags according to the guidelines set by Google, which you can find here. Industrialized SOA – topic of Business Technology Magazine

Although it has become quieter around SOA, the concept is not buried at all. On the contrary, over the years it has reached a new maturity level. Insert Special Characters & Coding in Online Forms in Firefox

If you are active in forums or comment areas on different websites then you most likely use some type of special characters, HTML, or other code throughout the day. Now you can easily insert commonly used “items” with the SKeys extension for Firefox. Your New Special Text Edit Bar After installing the extension you will see the new toolbar that has been added to your browser. These are the kinds of text that can be added to online comment areas, forums, or other website areas that allow their use: Special characters HTML tags BB codes Wiki characters All that you will need to do is click on the appropriate special character or code to insert it into the website text area. The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time. Conclusion While a new toolbar may not be for everyone this extension can certainly prove useful when you need to quickly add special characters or coding in website text areas. Load different levels in XML

my question is more about a theoretical gener than a pratical way to make things happen. I'm about start developing a game for android, text based so i won't need sprites or animation, nor a game engine. Let's say is similar to a sudoku game, where each level is an harder version of sudoku and each level has some question to be asnwered over the sudoku itself. I was wondering if the better way is to have only one XML and then inside all the different levels, each one with his meta-tags, or if the different approach of making n xml files where each one is a level is preferred. At the moment a level should have those tags: <level> <question>Question_1</question> <hint1>what does it do?</hint1> <hint2>where...</hint2> .... <hintN>how...</hintN> </level> So each level could have some items to read and that's what made me think that maybe different files are better cuz if i have to load lvl 10 i can read only the 10.xml file. I hope my question isn't too stupind. Thanks in advance

Why does SEO based code tips not appear to affect ranking?

I've been researching various methods for SEO where pages have precise titles, keywords are highlighted with h tags and tick the many boxes stated in good page mark up for SEO. However when looking at some top ranked search sites on google for key terms they have terrible SEO based mark up. Really long page titles, no tags, limited appearance of keywords in the text and so on. SEO analysis services rate them lower than other sites, yet these sites rank really high. Even with a low number of back-links they are high, so I don't understand how these sites earn the position when they appear inferior to those below them which have better mark up and links. I don't want to cause trouble my mentioning sites or keywords etc. but looking in google at 'executive search' the roughly 5th placed site makes no sense why it should be highly rank, especially with all the added .swfs. The same applies for the top of 'Japan Executive Search'. My main point is that these sites seem to not have all the important structural rules stated in seo page rating applications and general suggested best practice, nor do they show large back-links. It makes me feel like there is no point bothering to write decent mark up if it really doesn't matter. Can anyone explain how sites with such mark-up, and low back-links can outrank well written and structured sites with greater linkage? Sorry if this is a fuzzy question, I want to avoid singling out any sites for example, but it really has me perplexed that sites which appear to ignore the suggested best practices rank so well.

What is a good basic/flexible cms for a small website? [closed]

Possible Duplicate: Which Content Management System (CMS) should I use? I'm designing a very basic portfolio website for an artist. It features a blog, portfolio, cv and contact page. I've handcoded the basics of this site in php/java, as it is a very small website (and I like coding by hand). But I need a simple cms backend for the dynamic parts of the website (the blog/portfolio). The big systems (ruby, joomla, wordpress) are far too invasive for my liking (and frankly a bit beyond my capabilities). Wordpress for example, requires too much adaptation of the design to the wordpress structure, and ruby is far too extensive for a simple site like this (in my opinion). So what I'm looking for is a (preferably open source) cms that has a simple backend for the artist to use as a blogger, with a mysql database for the content, that will allow me to insert content with simple tags (using smarty tags for example), but is otherwise not too invasive or demanding in terms of the required page structure. Does anyone know of a good cms that fits this description? p.s.: I have tried phpnews and cmsmadesimple, but phpnews was a litte too basic (but very close too what I'm looking for) and cmsmadesimple was way too slow (but otherwise also pretty close too what I wanted, though a bit too extensive).

App_offline.htm and SharePoint and wholly contained images…

The question came up today if we could use an “app_offline.htm” file along with HTML in that file that would reference images. First, I wasn’t 100% sure if the app_offline.htm would work, but it sure did. Since it’s just the Asp.net hosting process that detects the file, it circumvents loading any HttpApplications (SharePoint) beyond just serving up the HTML content. The second question was about having something more than text, specifically <img> tags. So, since the HttpHandlers are taking all requests for all resources through the Asp.net pipeline, as soon as the app_offline.htm file is there, nothing else will get served from within that web application. Sure, we could host the file (images) outside the web app, but what fun would that be? So, I found this link on using an image in app_offline.htm http://pbodev.wordpress.com/2009/12/20/app_offline-htm-with-an-image-yes-we-can/ Turns out, the src tag (in fact many tags) can take a stream of data represented by a mime type and base64 encoding inline – such as: <img style="height:515px;width:700px;border-width:0px;" src="data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgA One of the problems we had was the image was too large; so, sliced up the image, but ended up with spaces between each of the slices. Low and behold, it works with CSS as well. <style type="text/css"> .Slice_1_jpg { position: absolute; left:0px; top:0px; width:1011px; height:148px; background: url("data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZ And the body is as follows: <body> <div class="Slice_1_jpg"> </div> For this, I wrote a little Asp.Net site that, using a file upload control, will generate the necessary contents of what needs to go in the “data” value for the stream. It's raining development VirtualBox images again!

The cloud has burst.. forecast is looking like large amounts of VirtualBox images are coming down from OTN. Are you finding the install for Database, WebLogic, SOA or WebCenter to be complicated when your goal is simply to setup a development sandbox? Sick of giving your credit card info to cloud vendors, only to be stuck in a walled garden where you can't connect to your own internal systems? Are you new to Java and just wanted something technical to sink your teeth into? Or maybe you just want to put some stuff on that new terabyte drive you got? ;) Have no fear. VirtualBox 4.0 is here. We've have several development (read: don't use in production) images that were designed for use for in-person events, but we're posting them for your enjoyment.
