  • How can I optimize retrieving lowest edit distance from a large table in SQL?

    - by Matt
    Hey, I'm having troubles optimizing this Levenshtein Distance calculation I'm doing. I need to do the following: Get the record with the minimum distance for the source string as well as a trimmed version of the source string Pick the record with the minimum distance If the min distances are equal (original vs trimmed), choose the trimmed one with the lowest distance If there are still multiple records that fall under the above two categories, pick the one with the highest frequency Here's my working version: DECLARE @Results TABLE ( ID int, [Name] nvarchar(200), Distance int, Frequency int, Trimmed bit ) INSERT INTO @Results SELECT ID, [Name], (dbo.Levenshtein(@Source, [Name])) As Distance, Frequency, 'False' As Trimmed FROM MyTable INSERT INTO @Results SELECT ID, [Name], (dbo.Levenshtein(@SourceTrimmed, [Name])) As Distance, Frequency, 'True' As Trimmed FROM MyTable SET @ResultID = (SELECT TOP 1 ID FROM @Results ORDER BY Distance, Trimmed, Frequency) SET @Result = (SELECT TOP 1 [Name] FROM @Results ORDER BY Distance, Trimmed, Frequency) SET @ResultDist = (SELECT TOP 1 Distance FROM @Results ORDER BY Distance, Trimmed, Frequency) SET @ResultTrimmed = (SELECT TOP 1 Trimmed FROM @Results ORDER BY Distance, Trimmed, Frequency) I believe what I need to do here is to.. Not dumb the results to a temporary table Do only 1 select from `MyTable` Setting the results right in the select from the initial select statement. (Since select will set variables and you can set multiple variables in one select statement) I know there has to be a good implementation to this but I can't figure it out... this is as far as I got: SELECT top 1 @ResultID = ID, @Result = [Name], (dbo.Levenshtein(@Source, [Name])) As distOrig, (dbo.Levenshtein(@SourceTrimmed, [Name])) As distTrimmed, Frequency FROM MyTable WHERE /* ... yeah I'm lost */ ORDER BY distOrig, distTrimmed, Frequency Any ideas?

  • I need to Loop an a formula with the Offset function until the cell is blank

    - by CEMG
    I need to Loop the formula below until Column "B" which contains dates is empty. I am stuck and I just can't seem to write the VBA Code to do the Loop until there is no more Dates in Column "B". The formula is smoothing out the yields by using those dates that have a yield. I hope anyone would be able to help me. • How can I optimize the SELECT statement running on an Oracle database?

    - by Elvis Lou
    I have a SELECT statement in ORACLE: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT ds1.endpoint_msisdn) multiple30, dss1.service, dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id, dss1.company_scope, Nvl(x.subscription_status, dss1.subscription_status) subscription_status FROM daily_summary ds1 join daily_summary ds2 ON ds1.endpoint_msisdn = ds2.endpoint_msisdn, daily_summary_static dss1, daily_summary_static dss2, (SELECT NULL subscription_status FROM dual UNION ALL SELECT -2 subscription_status FROM dual) x WHERE ds1.summary_ts >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND ds1.summary_ts <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss1.last_active >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss1.last_active <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss2.last_active >= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss2.last_active <= To_date('10-04-2012', 'dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss1.service <> dss2.service AND ( dss1.company_scope = 2 OR dss1.company_scope = 5 ) AND ( dss2.company_scope = 2 OR dss2.company_scope = 5 ) AND dss1.company_scope = dss2.company_scope AND ds1.endpoint_noc_id = dss1.endpoint_noc_id AND ds1.endpoint_host_id = dss1.endpoint_host_id AND ds1.endpoint_instance_id = dss1.endpoint_instance_id AND ds2.endpoint_noc_id = dss2.endpoint_noc_id AND ds2.endpoint_host_id = dss2.endpoint_host_id AND ds2.endpoint_instance_id = dss2.endpoint_instance_id AND dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id = dss2.endpoint_provisioning_id AND Least(1, ds1.total_actions) = 1 AND Least(1, ds2.total_actions) = 1 GROUP BY dss1.service, dss1.endpoint_provisioning_id, dss1.company_scope, Nvl(x.subscription_status, dss1.subscription_status); This query took about 26 minutes to return in my environment, but if I remove the section: dss1.last_active >= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss1.last_active <= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') AND dss2.last_active >= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') - 30 AND dss2.last_active <= to_date('10-04-2012','dd-mm-yyyy') AND it only took 20 seconds to run. We have index on the column last_active, I don't know why the section slow down the performance so much? any ideas?

  • How do I select dynamic ids in this format?

    - by sjsc
    I'm trying to select dynamic ids when a user types something into the input fields. My app spits out the input fields in the following format: <input id="student_1_first_name" /> <input id="student_1_last_name" /> <input id="student_2_first_name" /> <input id="student_2_last_name" /> <input id="student_3_first_name" /> <input id="student_3_last_name" /> etc. For example, I tried doing this to select the end of the id string: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function (){ $("input[id$=_first_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); $("input[id$=_last_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); } ); </script> When I do that, Jquery can't seem to select the input ids, so the functions don't run. Do you have any ideas on how I can select the ids correctly?

  • How to select the account on the login screen of Windows7 by start typing the name?

    - by akira
    When MacOS boots up and the users is prompted to select the account (s)he wants to login into, the users can either click the name / icon of the account with the mouse or just type in the name of the account. I want to do the same at the login screen of Windows7: Login screen pops up, I start to type my account name, I select the account with enter and then I type the password and enter again. No usage of the mouse involved. (I am aware of tab-cycling and hard-to-follow-the-almost-invisible-marker-of-where-the-focus-is-right-now)

  • How can I hardcode input with the "select" system call in C?

    - by Archer
    If I understand this system call "select" correctly, it will loop waiting for user input from the keyboard or from an outside server. Every time I call "message_loop", I'm going to type in the same few lines of input each time. Is there a way to hard code this in so I don't have to type it in each time? void message_loop(FILE* fpin, FILE* fpout, Socket sock) { fd_set readfds, readfds_bak ; int in, max_fd, n, ret ; char buf[MAXMESG]; in = fileno(fpin) ; FD_ZERO(&readfds) ; FD_SET(in, &readfds) ; FD_SET(sock.socketfd, &readfds) ; readfds_bak = readfds ; max_fd = ((in > sock.socketfd) ? in : sock.socketfd) + 1 ; while(1){ readfds = readfds_bak ; /* select function */ if((ret = select(max_fd, &readfds, NULL, NULL, NULL)) < 0){ perror("select") ; break ; } else if (ret != 0) { if(FD_ISSET(in, &readfds)){ /* keyboard input */ fgets(buf, MAXMESG, fpin) ; if(send_message(buf, sock) == -1) break ; } if(FD_ISSET(sock.socketfd, &readfds)){ /* messages from server */ n = receive_message(buf, MAXMESG, &sock) ; if(n == -1) break ; else if(n > 0){ fputs(buf, fpout) ; fputc('\n', fpout) ; } fflush(stdout) ; } } } }

  • What is the optimum way to select the most dissimilar individuals from a population?

    - by Aaron D
    I have tried to use k-means clustering to select the most diverse markers in my population, for example, if we want to select 100 lines I cluster the whole population to 100 clusters then select the closest marker to the centroid from each cluster. The problem with my solution is it takes too much time (probably my function needs optimization), especially when the number of markers exceeds 100000. So, I will appreciate it so much if anyone can show me a new way to select markers that maximize diversity in my population and/or help me optimize my function to make it work faster. Thank you # example: library(BLR) data(wheat) dim(X) mdf<-mostdiff(t(X), 100,1,nstart=1000) Here is the mostdiff function that i used: mostdiff <- function(markers, nClust, nMrkPerClust, nstart=1000) { transposedMarkers <- as.array(markers) mrkClust <- kmeans(transposedMarkers, nClust, nstart=nstart) save(mrkClust, file="markerCluster.Rdata") # within clusters, pick the markers that are closest to the cluster centroid # turn the vector of which markers belong to which clusters into a list nClust long # each element of the list is a vector of the markers in that cluster clustersToList <- function(nClust, clusters) { vecOfCluster <- function(whichClust, clusters) { return(which(whichClust == clusters)) } return(apply(as.array(1:nClust), 1, vecOfCluster, clusters)) } pickCloseToCenter <- function(vecOfCluster, whichClust, transposedMarkers, centers, pickHowMany) { clustSize <- length(vecOfCluster) # if there are fewer than three markers, the center is equally distant from all so don't bother if (clustSize < 3) return(vecOfCluster[1:min(pickHowMany, clustSize)]) # figure out the distance (squared) between each marker in the cluster and the cluster center distToCenter <- function(marker, center){ diff <- center - marker return(sum(diff*diff)) } dists <- apply(transposedMarkers[vecOfCluster,], 1, distToCenter, center=centers[whichClust,]) return(vecOfCluster[order(dists)[1:min(pickHowMany, clustSize)]]) } }

  • Why the input and the select do not get the same width?

    - by Bytecode Ninja
    I have a table with two rows. The first row contains an input and the second row contains a select. Even though I have set their widths to be 100%, the select box is a few pixels smaller than the input. Any ideas why is this so and how can I set their widths to be equal to each other and as big as possible (e.g. %100) in a way that works across all (A-grade) browsers? <table width="100%" style="margin-top: 5px;"> <tr> <td width="35"><label for="desc">Description</label></td> <td> <input type="text" style="width: 100%;" name="desc" id="desc" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td width="35"><label for="group">Group</label></td> <td> <select id="group" name="group" style="width: 100%; line-height: 17px;"> <option value="val">name</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table>

  • How to break an object into chunks based on some property?

    - by CurlyFro
    public class InvestorMailing { public string To { get; set; } public IEnumerable<string> Attachments { get; set; } public int AttachmentCount { get; set; } public long AttachmentSize { get; set; } } i have an IList<InvestorMailing> mailingList. if the attachment size is greater than x, then i need to split my object into chunks. is there an easy linq-y way to do this? Edited: this is how i'm generating my mailings: var groupedMailings = mailingList.GroupBy(g => g.GroupBy); var investorMailings = groupedMailings.Select( g => new DistinctInvestorMailing { Id = g.Select(x => x.Id).FirstOrDefault(), To = g.Key.Trim(), From = g.Select(x => x.From).FirstOrDefault(), FromName = g.Select(x => x.FromName).FirstOrDefault(), Bcc = g.Select(x => x.Bcc).FirstOrDefault(), DeliveryCode = g.Select(x => x.DeliveryCode).FirstOrDefault(), Subject = g.Select(x => x.Subject).FirstOrDefault(), Body = g.Select(x => x.Body).FirstOrDefault(), CommentsOnStatus = g.Select(x => x.CommentsOnStatus).FirstOrDefault(), Attachments = g.Select(x => x.AttachmentPath), AttachmentCount = g.Select(x => x.AttachmentPath).Count(), AttachmentSize = g.Sum(x => x.AttachmentSize), MailType = g.Select(x => x.MessageType).FirstOrDefault() } ).ToList();

  • SQL SERVER – Finding Shortest Distance between Two Shapes using Spatial Data Classes – Ramsetu or Adam’s Bridge

    - by pinaldave
    Recently I was reading excellent blog post by Lenni Lobel on Spatial Database. He has written very interesting function ShortestLineTo in Spatial Data Classes. I really loved this new feature of the finding shortest distance between two shapes in SQL Server. Following is the example which is same as Lenni talk on his blog article . DECLARE @Shape1 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-20 -30, -3 -26, 14 -28, 20 -40, -20 -30))' DECLARE @Shape2 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-18 -20, 0 -10, 4 -12, 10 -20, 2 -22, -18 -20))' SELECT @Shape1 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape2 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape1.ShortestLineTo(@Shape2).STBuffer(.25) GO When you run this script SQL Server finds out the shortest distance between two shapes and draws the line. We are using STBuffer so we can see the connecting line clearly. Now let us modify one of the object and then we see how the connecting shortest line works. DECLARE @Shape1 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-20 -30, -3 -30, 14 -28, 20 -40, -20 -30))' DECLARE @Shape2 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-18 -20, 0 -10, 4 -12, 10 -20, 2 -22, -18 -20))' SELECT @Shape1 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape2 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape1.ShortestLineTo(@Shape2).STBuffer(.25) GO Now once again let us modify one of the script and see how the shortest line to works. DECLARE @Shape1 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-20 -30, -3 -30, 14 -28, 20 -40, -20 -30))' DECLARE @Shape2 geometry = 'POLYGON ((-18 -20, 0 -10, 4 -12, 10 -20, 2 -18, -18 -20))' SELECT @Shape1 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape2 UNION ALL SELECT @Shape1.ShortestLineTo(@Shape2).STBuffer(.25) SELECT @Shape1.STDistance(@Shape2) GO You can see as the objects are changing the shortest lines are moving at appropriate place. I think even though this is very small feature this is really cool know. While I was working on this example, I suddenly thought about distance between Sri Lanka and India. The distance is very short infect it is less than 30 km by sea. I decided to map India and Sri Lanka using spatial data classes. To my surprise the plotted shortest line is the same as Adam’s Bridge or Ramsetu. Adam’s Bridge starts as chain of shoals from the Dhanushkodi tip of India’s Pamban Island and ends at Sri Lanka’s Mannar Island. Geological evidence suggests that this bridge is a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka. • Install Ubuntu Netbook Edition with Wubi Installer

    - by Matthew Guay
    Ubuntu is one of the most popular versions of Linux, and their Netbook Remix edition is especially attractive for netbook owners.  Here we’ll look at how you can easily try out Ubuntu on your netbook without a CD/DVD drive. Netbooks, along with the growing number of thin, full powered laptops, lack a CD/DVD drive.  Installing software isn’t much of a problem since most programs, whether free or for-pay, are available for download.  Operating systems, however, are usually installed from a disk.  You can easily install Windows 7 from a flash drive with our tutorial, but installing Ubuntu from a USB flash drive is more complicated.  However, using Wubi, a Windows installer for Ubuntu, you can easily install it directly on your netbook and even uninstall it with only a few clicks. Getting Started Download and run the Wubi installer for Ubuntu (link below).  In the installer, select the drive you where you wish to install Ubuntu, the size of the installation (this is the amount dedicated to Ubuntu; under 20Gb should be fine), language, username, and desired password.  Also, from the Desktop environment menu, select Ubuntu Netbook to install the netbook edition.  Click Install when your settings are correct. Wubi will automatically download the selected version of Ubuntu and install it on your computer. Windows Firewall may ask if you want to unblock Wubi; select your network and click Allow access. The download will take around an hour on broadband, depending on your internet connection speed.  Once the download is completed, it will automatically install to your computer.  If you’d prefer to have everything downloaded before you start the install, download the ISO of Ubuntu Netbook edition (link below) and save it in the same folder as Wubi. Then, when you run Wubi, select the netbook edition as before and click Install.  Wubi will verify that your download is valid, and will then proceed to install from the downloaded ISO.  This install will only take about 10 minutes. Once the install is finished you will be asked to reboot your computer.  Save anything else you’re working on, and then reboot to finish setting up Ubuntu on your netbook. When your computer reboots, select Ubuntu at the boot screen.  Wubi leaves the default OS as Windows 7, so if you don’t select anything it will boot into Windows 7 after a few seconds. Ubuntu will automatically finish the install when you boot into it the first time.  This took about 12 minutes in our test. When the setup is finished, your netbook will reboot one more time.  Remember again to select Ubuntu at the boot screen.  You’ll then see a second boot screen; press your Enter key to select the default.   Ubuntu only took less than a minute to boot in our test.  When you see the login screen, select your name and enter your password you setup in Wubi.  Now you’re ready to start exploring Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Using Ubuntu Netbook Remix Ubuntu Netbook Remix offers a simple, full-screen interface to take the best advantage of netbooks’ small screens.  Pre-installed applications are displayed in the application launcher, and are organized by category.  Click once to open an application. The first screen on the application launcher shows your favorite programs.  If you’d like to add another application to the favorites pane, click the plus sign beside its icon. Your files from Windows are still accessible from Ubuntu Netbook Remix.  From the home screen, select Files & Folders on the left menu, and then click the icon that says something like 100GB Filesystem under the Volumes section. Now you’ll be able to see all of your files from Windows.  Your user files such as documents, music, and pictures should be located in Documents and Settings in a folder with your user name. You can also easily install a variety of free applications via the Software Installer. Connecting to the internet is also easy, as Ubuntu Netbook Remix automatically recognized the WiFi adaptor on our test netbook, a Samsung N150.  To connect to a wireless network, click the wireless icon on the top right of the screen and select the network’s name from the list. And, if you’d like to customize your screen, right-click on the application launcher and select Change desktop background. Choose a background picture you’d like. Now you’ll see it through your application launcher.  Nice! Most applications are opened full-screen.  You can close them by clicking the x on the right of the program’s name. You can also switch to other applications from their icons on the top left.  Open the home screen by clicking the Ubuntu logo in the far left. Changing Boot Options By default, Wubi will leave Windows as the default operating system, and will give you 10 seconds at boot to choose to boot into Ubuntu.  To change this, boot into Windows and enter Advanced system settings in your start menu search. In this dialog, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. From this dialog, you can select the default operating system and the time to display list of operating systems.  You can enter a lower number to make the boot screen appear for less time. And if you’d rather make Ubuntu the default operating system, select it from the drop-down list.   Uninstalling Ubuntu Netbook Remix If you decide you don’t want to keep Ubuntu Netbook Remix on your computer, you can uninstall it just like you uninstall any normal application.  Boot your computer into Windows, open Control Panel, click Uninstall a Program, and enter ubuntu in the search box.  Select it, and click Uninstall. Click Uninstall at the prompt.  Ubuntu uninstalls very quickly, and removes the entry from the bootloader as well, so your computer is just like it was before you installed it.   Conclusion Ubuntu Netbook Remix offers an attractive Linux interface for netbooks.  We enjoyed trying it out, and found it much more user-friendly than most Linux distros.  And with the Wubi installer, you can install it risk-free and try it out on your netbook.  Or, if you’d like to try out another alternate netbook operating system, check out our article on Jolicloud, another new OS for netbooks. • Configuring JPA Primary key sequence generators

    - by pachunoori.vinay.kumar(at)oracle.com
    This article describes the JPA feature of generating and assigning the unique sequence numbers to JPA entity .This article provides information on jpa sequence generator annotations and its usage. UseCase Description Adding a new Employee to the organization using Employee form should assign unique employee Id. Following description provides the detailed steps to implement the generation of unique employee numbers using JPA generators feature Steps to configure JPA Generators 1.Generate Employee Entity using "Entities from Table Wizard". View image2.Create a Database Connection and select the table "Employee" for which entity will be generated and Finish the wizards with default selections. View image 3.Select the offline database sources-Schema-create a Sequence object or you can copy to offline db from online database connection. View image 4.Open the persistence.xml in application navigator and select the Entity "Employee" in structure view and select the tab "Generators" in flat editor. 5.In the Sequence Generator section,enter name of sequence "InvSeq" and select the sequence from drop down list created in step3. View image 6.Expand the Employees in structure view and select EmployeeId and select the "Primary Key Generation" tab.7.In the Generated value section,select the "Use Generated value" check box ,select the strategy as "Sequence" and select the Generator as "InvSeq" defined step 4. View image   Following annotations gets added for the JPA generator configured in JDeveloper for an entity To use a specific named sequence object (whether it is generated by schema generation or already exists in the database) you must define a sequence generator using a @SequenceGenerator annotation. Provide a unique label as the name for the sequence generator and refer the name in the @GeneratedValue annotation along with generation strategy  For  example,see the below Employee Entity sample code configured for sequence generation. EMPLOYEE_ID is the primary key and is configured for auto generation of sequence numbers. EMPLOYEE_SEQ is the sequence object exist in database.This sequence is configured for generating the sequence numbers and assign the value as primary key to Employee_id column in Employee table. @SequenceGenerator(name="InvSeq", sequenceName = "EMPLOYEE_SEQ")   @Entity public class Employee implements Serializable {    @Id    @Column(name="EMPLOYEE_ID", nullable = false)    @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="InvSeq")   private Long employeeId; }   @SequenceGenerator @GeneratedValue @SequenceGenerator - will define the sequence generator based on a  database sequence object Usage: @SequenceGenerator(name="SequenceGenerator", sequenceName = "EMPLOYEE_SEQ") @GeneratedValue - Will define the generation strategy and refers the sequence generator  Usage:     @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="name of the Sequence generator defined in @SequenceGenerator")

  • Ubuntu Preseed set Norwegian Keyboard?

    - by Vangelis Tasoulas
    It's been a couple of days now that I am trying to make a fully automated unattended installation. I managed to make it work with Ubuntu/Cobbler and a preseed file, but I cannot set the correct keyboard layout which is Norwegian in this case. I am doing the tests on a virtual machine and when I am going with a normal manual installation (no preseed) everything is working fine. When I am using the preseed file, I always end up with an "English (US)" keyboard no matter the many different options I have tried. I can change it manually with the "dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" command, but that's not the case. It should be handled automatically using the preseed file. • Problems with :uniq => true/Distinct option in a has_many_through association w/ named scope (Rails)

    - by MikeH
    I had to make some tweaks to my app to add new functionality, and my changes seem to have broken the :uniq option that was previously working perfectly. Here's the set up: #User.rb has_many :products, :through = :seasons, :uniq = true has_many :varieties, :through = :seasons, :uniq = true #product.rb has_many :seasons has_many :users, :through = :seasons, :uniq = true has_many :varieties #season.rb belongs_to :product belongs_to :variety belongs_to :user named_scope :by_product_name, :joins = :product, :order = 'products.name' #variety.rb belongs_to :product has_many :seasons has_many :users, :through = :seasons, :uniq = true First I want to show you the previous version of the view that is now breaking, so that we have a baseline to compare. The view below is pulling up products and varieties that belong to the user. In both versions below, I've assigned the same products/varieties to the user so the logs will looking at the exact same use case. #user/show <% @user.products.each do |product| %> <%= link_to product.name, product %> <% @user.varieties.find_all_by_product_id(product.id).each do |variety| %> <%=h variety.name.capitalize %></p> <% end %> <% end %> This works. It displays only one of each product, and then displays each product's varieties. In the log below, product ID 1 has 3 associated varieties. And product ID 43 has none. Here's the log output for the code above: Product Load (11.3ms) SELECT DISTINCT `products`.* FROM `products` INNER JOIN `seasons` ON `products`.id = `seasons`.product_id WHERE ((`seasons`.user_id = 1)) ORDER BY name, products.name Product Columns (1.8ms) SHOW FIELDS FROM `products` Variety Columns (1.9ms) SHOW FIELDS FROM `varieties` Variety Load (0.7ms) SELECT DISTINCT `varieties`.* FROM `varieties` INNER JOIN `seasons` ON `varieties`.id = `seasons`.variety_id WHERE (`varieties`.`product_id` = 1) AND ((`seasons`.user_id = 1)) ORDER BY name Variety Load (0.5ms) SELECT DISTINCT `varieties`.* FROM `varieties` INNER JOIN `seasons` ON `varieties`.id = `seasons`.variety_id WHERE (`varieties`.`product_id` = 43) AND ((`seasons`.user_id = 1)) ORDER BY name Ok, so everything above is the previous version which was working great. In the new version, I added some columns to the join table called seasons, and made a bunch of custom methods that query those columns. As a result, I made the following changes to the view code that you saw above so that I could access those methods on the seasons model: <% @user.seasons.by_product_name.each do |season| %> <%= link_to season.product.name, season.product %> #Note: I couldn't get this loop to work at all, so I settled for the following: #<% @user.varieties.find_all_by_product_id(product.id).each do |variety| %> <%=h season.variety.name.capitalize %> <%end%> <%end%> Here's the log output for that: SQL (0.9ms) SELECT count(DISTINCT "products".id) AS count_products_id FROM "products" INNER JOIN "seasons" ON "products".id = "seasons".product_id WHERE (("seasons".user_id = 1)) Season Load (1.8ms) SELECT "seasons".* FROM "seasons" INNER JOIN "products" ON "products".id = "seasons".product_id WHERE ("seasons".user_id = 1) AND ("seasons".user_id = 1) ORDER BY products.name Product Load (0.7ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 43) ORDER BY products.name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT "seasons".* FROM "seasons" INNER JOIN "products" ON "products".id = "seasons".product_id WHERE ("seasons".user_id = 1) AND ("seasons".user_id = 1) ORDER BY products.name Product Load (0.4ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 1) ORDER BY products.name Variety Load (0.4ms) SELECT * FROM "varieties" WHERE ("varieties"."id" = 2) ORDER BY name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 1) ORDER BY products.name Variety Load (0.4ms) SELECT * FROM "varieties" WHERE ("varieties"."id" = 8) ORDER BY name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 1) ORDER BY products.name Variety Load (0.4ms) SELECT * FROM "varieties" WHERE ("varieties"."id" = 7) ORDER BY name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 43) ORDER BY products.name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT count(DISTINCT "products".id) AS count_products_id FROM "products" INNER JOIN "seasons" ON "products".id = "seasons".product_id WHERE (("seasons".user_id = 1)) CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT "seasons".* FROM "seasons" INNER JOIN "products" ON "products".id = "seasons".product_id WHERE ("seasons".user_id = 1) AND ("seasons".user_id = 1) ORDER BY products.name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 1) ORDER BY products.name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "products" WHERE ("products"."id" = 1) ORDER BY products.name CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT * FROM "varieties" WHERE ("varieties"."id" = 8) ORDER BY name I'm having two problems: (1) The :uniq option is not working for products. Three distinct versions of the same product are displaying on the page. (2) The :uniq option is not working for varieties. I don't have validation set up on this yet, and if the user enters the same variety twice, it does appear on the page. In the previous working version, this was not the case. The result I need is that only one product for any given ID displays, and all varieties associated with that ID display along with such unique product. One thing that sticks out to me is the sql call in the most recent log output. It's adding 'count' to the distinct call. I'm not sure why it's doing that or whether it might be an indication of an issue. I found this unresolved lighthouse ticket that seems like it could potentially be related, but I'm not sure if it's the same issue: https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/tickets/2189-count-breaks-sqlite-has_many-through-association-collection-with-named-scope I've tried a million variations on this and can't get it working. Any help is much appreciated!

  • SQL SERVER – Working with FileTables in SQL Server 2012 – Part 2 – Methods to Insert Data Into Table

    - by pinaldave
    Read Part 1 Working with FileTables in SQL Server 2012 – Part 1 – Setting Up Environment In this second part of the series, we will see how we can insert the files into the FileTables. There are two methods to insert the data into FileTables: Method 1: Copy Paste data into the FileTables folder First, find the folder where FileTable will be storing the files. Go to Databases >> Newly Created Database (FileTableDB) >> Expand Tables. Here you will see a new folder which says “FileTables”. When expanded, it gives the name of the newly created “FileTableTb”. Right click on the newly created table, and click on “Explore FileTable Directory”. This will open up the folder where the FileTable data will be stored. When clicked on the option it will open up following folder in my local machine where the FileTable data will be stored. \\127.0.0.1\mssqlserver\FileTableDB\FileTableTb_Dir You can just copy your document just there. I copied few word document there and ran select statement to see the result. USE [FileTableDB] GO SELECT * FROM FileTableTb GO SELECT * returns all the rows. Here is SELECT statement which has only few columns selected from FileTable. SELECT [name] ,[file_type] ,CAST([file_stream] AS VARCHAR) FileContent ,[cached_file_size] ,[creation_time] ,[last_write_time] ,[last_access_time] FROM [dbo].[FileTableTb] GO I believe this is the simplest method to populate FileTable, because you just have to move the files to the specific table. Method 2: T-SQL Insert Statement There are always cases when you might want to programmatically insert the images into SQL Server File table. Here is a quick method which you can use to insert the data in the file table. I have inserted a very small text file using T-SQL, and later on, reading that using SELECT statement demonstrated in method 1 above. INSERT INTO [dbo].[FileTableTb] ([name],[file_stream]) SELECT 'NewFile.txt', * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK N'd:\NewFile.txt', SINGLE_BLOB) AS FileData GO The above T-SQL statement will copy the NewFile.txt to new location. When you run SELECT statement, it will retrieve the file and list in the resultset. Additionally, it returns the content in the SELECT statement as well. I think it is a pretty interesting way to insert the data into the FileTable. SELECT [name] ,[file_type] ,CAST([file_stream] AS VARCHAR) FileContent ,[cached_file_size] ,[creation_time] ,[last_write_time] ,[last_access_time] FROM [dbo].[FileTableTb] GO There are more to FileTable and we will see those in my future blog posts. • Automatically change resolution when not in dock

    - by jwir3
    I have Ubuntu 11.04 (yep, I know it's old news) on my Lenovo W520. At home, I have a dock with dual monitors. I have a pretty decent setup - things work almost perfectly (hence the reason I'm reluctant to upgrade... that and I'm not 100% sold on Unity). Anyway, the only annoyance I have is that when I'm on travel, I use the laptop screen. When I un-dock the laptop, I need to manually go into nvidia x-server settings and change the resolution from 'Auto' to 1920x1200, or it will think I have two screens, and my mouse pointer will be able to go way off the left side of the screen. This isn't a big deal, but I need to do it every time I restart the x-server (so if I reboot, or have to kill it, etc...) What would be really nice is if there was a way for it to automatically detect whether or not there is external monitors (which it seems to do already), and switch into the mode I select, depending on which monitors are connected. Is there any way to accomplish this? I've posted my xorg.conf file for reference. # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 270.29 (buildd@allspice) Fri Feb 25 14:42:07 UTC 2011 # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 275.19 ([email protected]) Tue Jul 12 18:35:38 PDT 2011 #Section "Monitor" # Identifier "Monitor1" # VendorName "Lenovo" # ModelName "ThinkpadLCD" # #HorizSync 28.0 - 33.0 # #VertRefresh 43.0 - 72.0 # #Option "DPMS" #EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "DELL U2410" HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0 Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "Quadro 1000M" Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1" EndSection Section "Screen" # Removed Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+120, DFP-6: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0" # Removed Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+120, DFP-5: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0" # Removed Option "metamodes" "DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +1920+419, DFP-5: nvidia-auto-select +3840+0, DFP-6: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" # Removed Option "metamodes" "DFP-5: nvidia-auto-select +0+0, DFP-6: 1920x1200 +1920+0" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "DFP-0" Option "TwinView" "1" Option "metamodes" "DFP-5: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0, DFP-6: 1920x1200 +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection

  • Assign table values to multiple variables using a single SELECT statement and CASE?

    - by Darth Continent
    I'm trying to assign values contained in a lookup table to multiple variables by using a single SELECT having multiple CASE statements. The table is a lookup table with two columns like so: [GreekAlphabetastic] SystemID Descriptor -------- ---------- 1 Alpha 2 Beta 3 Epsilon This is my syntax: SELECT @VariableTheFirst = CASE WHEN myField = 'Alpha' THEN tbl.SystemID END, @VariableTheSecond = CASE WHEN myField = 'Beta' THEN tbl.SystemID END, @VariableTheThird = CASE WHEN myField = 'Epsilon' THEN tbl.SystemID END FROM GreekAlphabetastic tbl However, when I check the variables after this statement executes, I expected each to be assigned the appropriate value, but instead only the last has a value assigned. SELECT @VariableTheFirst AS First, @VariableTheSecond AS Second, @VariableTheThird AS Third Results: First Second Third NULL NULL 3 What am I doing wrong?

  • How can I make datagridview can only select the cells in the same column at a time?

    - by MemoryLeak
    I am using winforms to develop my application. And I set my datagridview control's selectionmode to "CellSelect", and this allow the user to select as many cells as he want which spread over several columns; but I want to constraint my user can only select cells in single column at a time, and there isn't any such kind of selectionmode for me. So If I want to implement this, how can I extend the datagridview class ? I also think that I can check in eventhandler whenever the selection cells are changed, through which I might make the user can not select cells spread over multiple columns, but this is not that good, I think. Can any other people help me to find out a better solution ?

  • How do I select the number of distinct days in a date range?

    - by isme
    I'm trying to use the T-SQL function DATEDIFF to select the number of distinct dates in a time period. The following query: SELECT DATEDIFF(DAY, '2012-01-01 01:23:45', '2012-01-02 01:23:45') selects 1, which is one less than I want. There are two distinct dates in the range: 2012-01-01 and 2012-01-02. It is not correct to add one to the result in the general case. The following query: SELECT DATEDIFF(DAY, '2012-01-01 00:00:00', '2012-01-02 00:00:00') selects 1, which is correct, because there is only one distinct date in the range. I'm sure there is a simple bit of arithmetic that I'm missing to calculate this. Can someone help me?

  • INSERT INTO ... SELECT FROM ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE

    - by dnagirl
    I'm doing an insert query where most of many columns would need to be updated to the new values if a unique key already existed. It goes something like this: INSERT INTO lee(exp_id, created_by, location, animal, starttime, endtime, entct, inact, inadur, inadist, smlct, smldur, smldist, larct, lardur, lardist, emptyct, emptydur) SELECT id, uid, t.location, t.animal, t.starttime, t.endtime, t.entct, t.inact, t.inadur, t.inadist, t.smlct, t.smldur, t.smldist, t.larct, t.lardur, t.lardist, t.emptyct, t.emptydur FROM tmp t WHERE uid=x ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ...; //update all fields to values from SELECT, except for exp_id, created_by, location, animal, starttime, endtime I'm not sure what the syntax for the UPDATE clause should be. How do I refer to the current row from the SELECT clause?

  • why doesn't hitting enter when a SELECT is focused submit the form?

    - by Marc
    Consider the following HTML: <form action=""> <input /> <select> <option>A</option> <option>B</option> </select> <input type="submit" /> </form> If the focus is on the input (text box) and I hit enter, the form submits. But, if the focus is on the select (dropdown box) and I hit enter, nothing happens. I know I could figure out some JavaScript to override this, but I want to know why hitting enter doesn't just work? Is there something I would break by capturing the enter with JavaScript (maybe some native keyboard accessibility of the dropdown)?
