  • How to test if table was updated in Zend Framework?

    When user opens a form to modify a record, but instead of changing information, he just clicks the Update button. Which causes the update() function to return 0. However, I consider this case a valid update task. How would I test it, so I can assign a success message? Is update() returns -1 when SQL query failed or also 0? Method: Zend_Db_Table_Abstract::update() Any ideas? Thanks

  • how to select specific number of child entities instead of all in entity framework 3.5?

    Hi all, i am wondering how can i select specific number of child objects instead of taking them all with include? lets say i have object 'Group' and i need to select last ten students that joined the group. When i use '.Include("Students"), EF includes all students. I was trying to use Take(10), but i am pretty new to EF and programming as well, so i couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions? UPDATED: ok, i have Group object already retrieved from db like this: Group group = db.Groups.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.GroupId == id) I know that i can add Include("Students") statement, but that would bring ALL students, and their number could be quite big whether i need only freshest 10 students. Can i do something like this: var groupWithStudents = group.Students.OrderByDescending(//...).Take(10);? The problem with this is that Take< no longer appears in intellisense. Is this clear enough?     I'm working on a simple JOIN of two tables (urls and companies). I am using this query call: print $this->_db->select()->from(array('u' => 'urls'), array('id', 'url', 'company_id')) ->join(array('c' => 'companies'), 'u.company_id = c.id'); which is out putting this query: SELECT `u`.`id`, `u`.`url`, `u`.`company_id`, `c`.* FROM `urls` AS `u` INNER JOIN `companies` AS `c` ON u.company_id = c.id Now, I'd prefer the c.* to not actually appear, but either way it doesn't matter. ZF dies with this error: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1" but I can run that query perfectly fine in my MySQL CLI. Any ideas how to fix up this query?

  • Android API Target Level 5 and 6 for Ubuntu

    Today i installed Ubuntu 10.4 and Eclipse Galileo. Then I downloaded the Android SDK and tried to install all packages via the Android SDK Tools. But unfortunately, only the Target Levels 3, 4, 7 and 8 were available. API Level 5 and 6 are missing. Does anybody know the reason for this? I already did a Google search and there seems to be nobody with the same problem. I also tried to restart it and nothing happens, the API Levels are still missing.

  • How to organize Windows Phone code base to target both 7.x and 8 platforms

    I took over a Windows Phone project which was previously targeting WP 7.1 platform, and with the recent announcement of the new platform it should target WP 8 as well. My VS 2010 solution consists on several projects (Data access, Model, Tests and WP7 client app) and i am wandering on how to include support for WP8. I have to note that the code-base is not compatible with WP8, due to usage of Toolkit controls and other 3rd party libraries targeted for WP7.1 specifically. Also there is another problem with the Visual Studio versions - WP7.1 can work with VS 2010, but WP8 requires VS 2012. Should i move the whole code-base to VS 2012? Any good advice on how to organize code-base in a most meaningful way in order to avoid duplication and possible painful maintenance? I am thinking between one solution - multiple projects vs. multiple solutions - reusable projects approach. Code duplication (like two separate folders/solutions) should be the least possible approach (fallback).

  • Zend Framework-does every webpage have it's own controller and indexAction and view?

    I'm wanting to be sure that I am setting things up correctly. On a typical website with 10 pages, would each page have it's own controller with it's own IndexAction and it's own View folder with it's own index.phtml as a view? Or do you have one controller with multiple Page1Action, Page2Action, etc and have multiple differently named view.phtml pages within view/index folder? I'm leaning toward the former because then I can have a cleaner controller for each page... Is there a standard, or is it subjective?

  • Zend Framework: How to handle exceptions in Ajax requests?

    Normally when an exception is thrown, Error controller takes command and displays error page with regular common header and footer. This behavior is not wanted in Ajax request. Because in case of error, whole html page is sent over. And in cases where I'm directly loading the content of http response in a div, this is even more unwanted. Instead in case of Ajax request, I just want to receive 'the actual error' thrown by exception. How can I do this? I think, one dirty way could be: set a var in ajax request and process accordingly. Not a good solution.

    Hi all, I understand you can add insert blocks of html before and after a target using before(), insertBefore(), after() and insertAfter(). I tried to do something similar to this <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("p").before("<div class='myContainer'>"); $("p").after("</div>"); }); </script> <p>paragraph</p> But the inject seems to automatically create closing tags for me, is there a way around this?     Which types of learning resources do you find the most helpful, for which kinds of learning and/or perhaps at specific times? Some examples of types of learning you could consider: When starting to integrate a new SDK inside an existing codebase When learning a new framework without having to integrate legacy code When digging deeper into an already-used SDK that you may not know very well yet For example - (video) tutorials are usually very easy to follow and tells a story from beginning to end to get results, but will nearly always assume starting from scratch or a previous tutorial. Therefore such a resource is useful for quick learning if you don't have legacy code around, but less so if you have to search for the best-fit to the code you already have. SDK Documentation on the other hand is well-structured but does not tell a story. It is more difficult to get to a specific larger result with documentation alone, but it is a better fit when you do have legacy code around and are searching for perhaps non-obvious ways of employing the SDK or library. Are there other forms of resources that you find useful, such as interactive training?

Tunneling refers to any abuse of HTTP that masks or misrepresents a message’s intent and undermines the protocol’s transparency. A REST API must not compromise its design by misusing HTTP’s request methods in an effort to accommodate clients with limited HTTP vocabulary. Always make proper use of the HTTP methods as specified by the rules in this section. [highlights by me] But then a lot of frameworks use tunneling to expose REST interfaces via HTML forms, since <form> knows only about GET and POST.   • Any good tutorials all this web programming stuff for a GUI person? [closed]

    For some reason, I am having a hard time understanding all this web programming stuff--from AJAX to JSON, etc. I've got plenty of experience programming GUIs. I'm currently working on a project in Python, and I thought that maybe I could just use PyJS (since it's GWT for Python, it uses an API that's very familiar to experienced GUI programmers like myself) to compile it with a Javascript interface on top, but alas, the compiler gave me a spectacular failure. It's obviously not meant to handle much of any Python beyond itself, and some of the core Python library. It would have been nice if it could, but I will admit, it would have been the lazy way to do it. I tried to learn Django, but for some reason, I'm just having a hard time understanding the tutorial on their website, and what it's all doing. Maybe it's not the best framework to learn, perhaps? Anyway, does anyone have a good primer/tutorial explaining all this stuff, especially for Python, and especially for someone coming from a GUI background?

  • Was it necessary to build this site in ASP.NET ?

    From what I'm told, the whole StackOverflow/StackExchange 'stack' is based on Microsoft's ASP.NET. SO and the SE sites are probably the most complex that I visit on a regular basis. There's a lot going on in every page - lots of different boxes, pulling data from different places and changing dynamically and responding to user interaction. And the sites work very smoothly, despite the high traffic. My question is, could this have been achieved using a different platform/framework? Does ASP.NET lend itself to more complex projects where other web frameworks would strain and falter? Or is the choice pretty incidental?

This comes handy at times, so I decided to check if it would be difficult to have it on NHibernate. It turned out it is not, so here it is!     I'm just now moving from a beginner to intermediate level android programmer in the java language. i can successfully write a game framework of classes that work together to accomplish a task beyond basic things, like hello world. but i'm having issues with some pretty basic OOP concepts; When should i derive from an abstract class? When is it more efficient to use an Interface instead of simply sub classing a parent? Basically, between extends, implements, and the abstract keywords, which keywords should be used instead of the others? i'm not looking for a basic definition, as i know them. i need to no when and why i should apply them to my code? what advantages does one have over the other? which is best for game development?

  • Who uses GnuSTEP?

    This has been a big question lurking at the back of my head. From what I see, GnuSTEP nowadays is primarily a "hobby" project of a small but tightly-knit group of people. However I haven't seen a large commercial (off-the-shelf) application that uses it, apart from the small applications that comes with the GnuSTEP distribution. Heck, since even Ubuntu doesn't really use it then is GnuSTEP really more than being a "hobby" framework? I know that Sony's SNAP at one brief moment uses GnuSTEP, but they killed the platform before it can do anything meaningful.

    Problem: I'm asked to prepare a document where all our DB tables are listed and I'm supposed to list all Controllers that uses these DB tables for read and another list for Controllers that do write operations. The code is scattered everywhere. There is code in the Controllers, in the models and even in the views. The application uses PROPEL as an ORM. What makes this really difficult is that the Controller may not be directly calling the table, but it may be instantiating a model class that calls that table. Is there an educated way to approach this crazy task? Note: Searching for the table name won't provide a solution because if a model uses that table I wouldn't know which Controller is using that model.

My main target platforms are Mac and Windows (later porting/rewriting/modifying for iOS, Android or WP7 is considerable).
