• Why can't GoogleBot forget a 404 File Does Not Exist?

  Hi folks, For two months now, googlebot is trying to get a file which does not exist anymore. This is just one example out of many: I had renamed the file to a better name and removed the old file. Now, why does Google insist on getting a file which it already has seen does not exist for months? doesn't it just give up and get on being a happy bot? My Error log file is filled with these repeating lines all wanting to get that one file, although they know for already long time that its not there: What to do in these situations? Are there automatic redirection rules that handle via 301 to the home page? • Using env variables with RewriteRule and ErrorDocument

  Hi, I'm having problems with the following while config. my Apache server to Rewrite some urls. SetEnv PATH_TO_DIR /directory RewriteRule ^%{PATH_TO_DIR}/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9_\-\.]+)/?$ /index.php?dir=$1&file=$2 ErrorDocument 404 %{PATH_TO_DIR}/index.php?dir=null&file=error This conf. used to work perfectly fine until I used SetEnv PATH... etc. I need to use this because there are lots of rules, not just those. Can anyone point out my mistake? Apache returns %{PATH_TO_DIR}/index.php?dir=null&file=error when I try anything (www.site.com/foo/bar for instance). Apache returns the ErrorDocument if i just try to fetch the index. I know it's not a problem with the rewrite rules because they work when I remove the PATH_TO_DIR variable and just hard code it. • Files inside Alias folder not accessible

  In my apache2.conf I have an alias setup like this: Alias /cake/ /var/www-cake/repo <Directory /var/www-cake/repo> Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride All Options +Indexes </Directory> inside the /var/www-cake/repo directory I just have 1 file that is index.php when I go to http://linux-server/cake/ I get a directory listing that shoes the index.php file. When I click on the file it takes me to http://linux-server/cake/index.php in which I get a 404 page not found error. What do I need to do to make the files accessible?

  How do I setup my .htaccess file to detect several languages, and redirect them to specific seo-friendly urls? Basically every url needs to go to index.php?lang=(...) • WHMCS Fatal error: Out of memory while View Invoice PDF

  I can log into WHMCS & can access everything I should be able to access, but if i try to click View PDF Invoice, the following error will occur, Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 67633152) (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/xxxx/public_html/whmcs/includes/classes/class.tcpdf.php on line 8419 I have already set the allocated Memory limit to 256MB, but the error still occurs. At that time of the error, the process memory is exceeding the allocation I set. • My First robots.txt

  I'm creating my first robots.txt and wanted to get a second opinion on it. Basically I have a FTP setup on my board for some special users to transfer files between each other and I do NOT want that included in the search by the bots. I also want to point to my sitemap which gets auto generated by a PHP page. So here is what I have, what else should I include, and if I need to fix anything with it? Also, it's linking to xmlsitemap.php because that generates the sitemap when called. My goal is to allow any search bot crawl the forums to grab meta data. • One to many problem with implementing 301 redirect after changed urls

  I have a problem. I had an old dynamic url which I have now split into multiple static urls. e.g. www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=1&id=2 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=3 www.mydomain.com/product.php?type=2&id=4, etc which I have changed to something like www.mydomain.com/electronics/radio www.mydomain.com/electronics/television www.mydomain.com/mobile/smartphone, etc. Google has previously indexed the dynamic urls and search results show the old urls. I want search to point to the new urls. I have kept the old url active, so both urls work. How can I set up a 301 redirect in this case? I run IIS and it only allows a page to be redirected to 1 url. Should I deactivate the old dynamic url? In that case I lose all the previous seo rankings..

  I stumbled upon this news article on BBC, RSA splits passwords in two to foil hackers' attacks tl;dr - a (randomized) password is split in half and is stored across two separate servers, to foil hackers that gained access to either server upon a security breach. Now the main question is, how would this kind of system would be made... codespeaking, for PHP which I commonly develop on my web applications, the database password is normally stored in a configuration file, i.e. config.php with the username and password, in that case it is understandable that the passwords can be stolen if the security was compromised. However when splitting and sending the other half to the other server, how would this go on when making a communication to the other server (keeping in mind with PHP) since the other server password would be stored in a configuration file, wouldn't it? In terms of security is to keep the other server password away from the main one, just exactly how would the main server communicate, without exposing any other password, apart from the first server. This certainly makes me think...

• My user can't upload files to folders owned by www-data

  I think I have screwed up my permissions in Ubuntu. I am using my server to run PHP. I recently ran across a problem where PHP could not create directories in the var/www-directory, so I searched around on the internet. Now PHP can write and access anything like it should, but as a user, I can't create new folders or files anymore. Right now, the permissions for folders are like this: drwxrwsr-x 2 www-data www-data [Folders] This is the permissions when I upload using sftp: -rw-rw-r-- 1 gautvedt www-data [Folders] What have I done wrong and how can I change this?

• How do I analyze vague Google Analytics data re traffic from Facebook?

  We have one Facebook fan page and two personal profiles that could be sending traffic and then there are the many facebook pages of friends etc. I am also running an ad campaign from my FB account for my husband's business which has a link from his personal FB profile and his fan page. On Google analytics for his business we get the following referring sites from Facebook: /ajax/emu/end.php which is listed under facebook.com / referral /l.php (which is a not-found page at FB /ajax/emu/end.php which is listed under apps.facebook.com Both of the working links send me to the home page of my profile, which is the account I am working from to create and review the FB ad campaign that we are running. Is this info telling me any useful information at all? Is there a best practice for tracking and analyzing Facebook traffic that is a lot more granular? thanks!

• joomla sometimes messes up urls, probably cache involved

  Is a bit i'm having this problem and i really cannot get the hang of it... Every once in while my joomla site messes up links url and for example from something like this: http://www.sism.org/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userslist&listid=4&Itemid=123 it becomes like this: http://www.sism.org/index.php/component/k2/administrator/components/com_dump/assets/css/images/stories/inrilievo/sism/htm/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userslist&listid=4&Itemid=123 the new page has the right content but there are no css and other linked resources. Usually i solve the problem by deleting all the cache and turning it off and on again. Of course this is pretty annoying especially for my association. Does any one have any clue on this? Watching the URLs the components involved seems to be K2 and Jdump. Thanks

  I have changed the main domain to a sub-domain & would like to re-direct all external links to the new sub domain. Have read a few articles but having no luck editing the .htaccess as it might be interfering with all the rules in there. Old: www.example.co.uk New: https://secure.example.co.uk The current rules are quite handy because it seems to have sorted out the structure for all internal links. It has even updated the file path for images (or this could just be wordpress as the url was updated under general settings). • SEO: 301 for a page which has no mirrow path?

  Hello, I just did a 301 and the domain and some pages which have a mirror file path are fine. But I have one directory which is not going to be part of the new site and I don't know how to redirect the old files that were there. I need something like this: oldDomain/oldDir/file.php and I need to make it redirect to newDomain/differentDir/file.php Is that possible? What is the 301 redirect rule for that? update I just added this rule as suggested by @Itai and it didn't work redirectMatch permanent ^/outdoors/trees/tanoak.php$ http://www.comehike.com/outdoors/trees/129/Tanoak any idea why?

• robots.txt, how effective is it and how long does it take?

  We recently updated the site to a single page site using jQuery to slide between "pages". So we now have only index.php. When you search the company on engines such as Google, you get the site and a listing of its sub pages which now lead to outdated pages. Our plan doesn't allow us to edit the .htaccess and the old pages are .html docs so I cannot use PHP redirects either. So if I put in place a robots.txt telling the engines to not crawl beyond index.php, how effective will this be in preventing/removing crawled sub pages. And rough guess, how long before the search engines would update?

• mod_rewrite for clean URL doesn't work

  Basically what I want to do is to convert this: http://localhost/jariungu/user_caleg.php?idCaleg2014=3 into this: http://localhost/jariungu/caleg/3 I have managed to make /jariungu/caleg/3 to direct to the original URL (as in, if I open that URL, it directs me to the appropriate page). The problem is, once opened, the URL returns to the original, ugly one in the address bar. This is what I tried.   As i remember the time when i was learning PHP, it was suggested to build a simple blog or a forum after reading the language fundamentals. I was told/read that this would cover everything that I would need to learn about PHP from a beginners book. This advice was out there in a number of places, and after following and working with PHP it seems quite good advice. Now, i am learning Java and reading the book "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel. I wonder if there is any such set of similar, small projects that I could take up, that would cover all the essentials and most of what is covered in the book.

• Dynamically rewrite URLs upon the user's selection - is it possible?

  In my PHP based web application, there's a form that generates a URL according to the user's selection. The form has 7 different fields, each one of them affects the final URL, none of them is mandatory. The final URL can be: /field1/user_setting_of_field1/field3/user_setting_of_field3/field6/user_setting_of_field6/ or just: /field4/user_setting_of_field4 these URLs should be rewritten to- /results.php?field1=user_setting_of_field1&field3=user_setting_of_field3&field6=user_setting_of_field6 and: /results.php?field4=user_setting_of_field4 Is it possible to create a single rewrite rule that will cover these variations? I'd hate to create different rewrite rule for every possible scenario, it'll take forever... I'm currently developing the app on a Windows machine with IIS 7.5, but will eventually deploy it to an Apache server. Is it possible in both? I currently need to solve it for the IIS environment, and later on for Apache.

Website A Website B Website A is simply hosted within the root directory of my hosting account.Within this root *directory* i have a sub folder " subfolder A " and within which is another subfolder " subfolder B " that contains my site Website B so the path looks like root/sublfolder_A/subfolder_B/ that contains my **Website B ( i.e subfolder_B) ** All goes fine.When i access the website B from my desktop/Laptop Website B is loaded normally. but when i access the Website through a mobile device , mobile site of Website A is loaded while as it should load website_B Also , to let you know , both websites have different URL's and not subdomain's or anything. • Tricky mod_rewrite challenge

  I list about 9,000 records on my little site. At the moment I'm showing them with a dynamic page, like http://domain.com/records.php?id=019031 But I'd like to start using meaningful URLs like this one on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Library-Mythology-Oxford-Worlds-Classics/dp/0199536325 where the title string on the root level gets ignored and requests are redirected to the records.php page, which accepts the ID as usual. Does anybody know how I could achieve that with mod_rewrite? I'm wondering how I'd deal with requests to my other root-level pages, like http://domain.com/contact.php, that I don't want to redirect to the records page.

• How to switch from Apache 2.0 Handler to FastCGI on Ubuntu Zend Server?

  I can't deploy/manage my Joomla websites On Ubuntu 12.04 Zend Server PHP 5.3.14 due to permissions during Joomla installation/J! extensions installation. All files are unwriteable. Only CHMOD 777 will help but of course it's not resolving the problem due to security issues. I think it's because cgi-fcgi is not shipped with Zend Server (only with Zend Server for Windows) Or maybe there is different solution how to make it work? • wordpress login encryption

  I am running wordpress with woocommerce and theme_my_login plugins. When a user registers on my site it sends them a confirmation email and then they can click to activate account. Problem is when the user goes to login they get an error of incorrect password. If the user uses the forgot password link and resets the password then they can login without any errors. What might cause this problem? Is the password being encrypted with the wrong method? • How can I build this payment receipt/booking application?

  I'm planning to build a payment receipt/booking application for a media company with several branches in different locations. The application should be able to move data across the network/internet to a central database where the administrator/accountant in a different location will be able to see the result of the entire job for the day from each branch. Application will run on windows environment. Will be able to send result of the booking to a Point Of Sales printer for print output. Now, I'm confused about choosing the right programming language to accomplish this task. I'm between beginner/intermediate level in PHP, I know HTML/CSS and JavaScript. I have tried to do this in PHP but, I'm face with several challenges and I fear for the POS part since PHP application run on the web browser. I don't know if python will be best suited for this and how long will it take someone with my experience level to pick up python. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
