  • Grub2 with BURG: duplicate Windows entries, how do I remove one?

    - by Tomas Lycken
I have a dual boot system with Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7, using GRUB2 (with Burg) as boot loader. For some reason, the Windows installation shows up twice in the boot menu: Ubuntu GNU/Linux, with Linux 3.2.0-24-generic Ubuntu GNU/Linux, with Linux 3.2.0-24-generic (recovery mode) Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1) Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2) If I look in my partition table, /dev/sda2 is C:\ of the Windows installation, and /dev/sda1 is the "System Reserved" partition (which, IIRC, is Windows' own bootloader). Furthermore, gparted shows /dev/sda2 - but no other partitions - with a boot flag: What is going on here? I'd like to have only the entries for Ubuntu and one entry for Windows in my boot menu - how do I remove one of them?

  • How to correctly set permisions for all subfolders and files

    - by Saeid87
I am following the guide to install TinyOS on Ubuntu 12.04 I have done up to step 3, But I am not sure if I have done the step 3 correctly. Because by doing the step 4 I get the permission error : saeid@saeid-Satellite-C660:~$ tos-install-jni /usr/bin/tos-install-jni: 13: [: =: unexpected operator Installing 32-bit Java JNI code in /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/lib/i386 ... install: cannot create regular file `/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/lib/i386/libgetenv.so': Permission denied Can you please tell me what would be the actual commands for step 3? What I have to replace with following lines?: /opt/tinyos-2.x files: chown -R /opt/tinyos-2.x Change the permissions on any serial (/dev/ttyS), usb (/dev/tts/usb, /dev/ttyUSB), or parallel (/dev/parport) devices you are going to use: chmod 666 /dev/ I mean how would you do those steps in your ubuntu?

  • Ubiquity is not recognizing existing partition while trying to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7

So I'm using Ubuntu live CD to install Ubuntu next to Windows 7 but it doesn't recognize partitions. • cryptsetup partitions not detected at boot

    - by Luis
I installed a fresh 12.04 and tried to mimic what I had for 10.04. swap should be encrypted with a urandom key and there's another partition that will contain home and other directories. # cat /etc/crypttab | grep -v '^#' | grep -v '^$' cryptswap /dev/sda5 /dev/urandom swap encriptado /dev/sda6 # grep -e 'cryptswap' -e 'encriptado' /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/cryptswap swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/mapper/encriptado /encriptado ext4 defaults 0 0 I also apt-get install cryptsetup When I boot, the system says (try to translate) that either the partition is not found or is not ready. I should wait, press M for manual or S to jump over. What am I missing here?

  • Unable to mount Windows (NTFS) filesystem due to hibernation

    - by yotamoo
Whenever I boot Ubuntu, I get a message that it cannot mount my windows partition, and I can choose to either wait, skip or manually mount. When I try to enter my Windows partition through Nautilus I get a message saying that this partition is hibernated and that I need to enter the file system and properly close it, something I have done with no problem so I don't know why this happens. Here's my partition table, if any more data is needed please let me know. • CentOS Client - Unable to Establish iSCSI connection with multiple interfaces on the initiator

    - by slashdot
So after upgrading to CentOS 6.2, I am seemingly no longer able to login into my iSCSI targets. I have multiple interfaces on different subnets on the system, and I first thought that it had to do with the fact that I may not be binding correct interfaces, which seems to be the case when looking at netstat, as this is clearly wrong: [root]? netstat -na|grep .90 tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:42354 10.10.8.90:3260 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:40777 10.10.9.90:3260 SYN_SENT I then went ahead and disabled all but one interface, and so as a result netstat appears to be correct, but the issue with login remains. I am positive that the target never sees a packet, because I see nothing by SYN_SENT. I know the problem is on my client, because the target is servicing multiple systems, none of which are CentOS 6.2. At this point I am pretty confident that some things changed between CentOS 6.0/6.1 and 6.2. So, if anyone have any thoughts, or ran into this, I would very much like to hear your thoughts. I went a few weeks back and grabbed a snapshot of this system from before upgrading to 6.2. I spun up a new system from the snapshot, and reconfigured interface info and host keys, as well as iSCSI initiator and iscsi interface info to match new MACs. Changed nothing else. Then, I attempted to connect to my targets, and no issues at all. I cannot say that this was unexpected. I then went ahead and compared sysctl settings from both systems and there were differences after the upgrade, but nothing seemingly relevant to iSCSI or IP that could contribute to this. I also noticed that by default now two sessions per connection were enabled after the upgrade, but I changed it back to 1 session in /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf. On the problematic system we can see that source interface is seemingly wrong, but even when I disable the 10.10.100 interface, problems persist. So, while this may be relevant, I could not validate it for certain. Needless to say, further research is necessary. Something is clearly different between releases. Working system is on 6.1, and non-working is 6.2. ::Working System:: tcp 0 0 10.10.8.210:39566 10.10.8.90:3260 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 10.10.9.210:46518 10.10.9.90:3260 ESTABLISHED [root]? ip route show 10.10.8.0/24 dev eth2.6 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.8.210 10.10.9.0/24 dev eth3.7 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.9.210 10.10.100.0/22 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.100.210 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link metric 1002 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth2.6 scope link metric 1006 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth3.7 scope link metric 1007 default via 10.10.100.1 dev eth0 ::Non-working System:: tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:44737 10.10.9.90:3260 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:55479 10.10.8.90:3260 SYN_SENT [root]? ip route show 10.10.8.0/24 dev eth2.6 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.8.60 10.10.9.0/24 dev eth3.7 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.9.60 10.10.100.0/22 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 10.10.100.60 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link metric 1002 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth2.6 scope link metric 1006 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth3.7 scope link metric 1007 default via 10.10.100.1 dev eth0 And the result is still same: [root]? iscsiadm: Could not login to [iface: sw-iscsi-0, target: iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:01:lab-centos-servers-00001, portal: 10.10.8.90,3260]. iscsiadm: initiator reported error (8 - connection timed out) iscsiadm: Could not login to [iface: sw-iscsi-1, target: iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:02:lab-centos-servers-00001, portal: 10.10.9.90,3260]. iscsiadm: initiator reported error (8 - connection timed out) iscsiadm: Could not log into all portals Update 01/08/2012: I believe I have been able to figure out the answer to my issue. It is quite obscure and I doubt this will happen to anyone else any time soon. It turns out that setting iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress in the interfaces configuration file is not legal. When one manually adds an iscsi target, such as below, all settings from the interface config file are copied into the node config file, that gets created by the below command. Result is parameters iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress together in the same config file. These parameters are seemingly mutually exclusive, which does not exactly make sense, or there is perhaps an oversight in the codepath. Perhaps I will investigate further. # iscsiadm -m node --op new -T iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:01:lab-centos-servers-00001 -p 10.10.8.90,3260,2 -I sw-iscsi-0 # iscsiadm -m node --op new -T iqn.2011-12.dom.homer:02:lab-centos-servers-00001 -p 10.10.9.90,3260,2 -I sw-iscsi-1 Notice, below I commented out iface.hwaddress and iface.ipaddress, after which I re-added targets, with same command as above. All works just fine. [root]? cat * # BEGIN RECORD 2.0-872.33.el6 iface.iscsi_ifacename = sw-iscsi-0 iface.net_ifacename = eth2.6 #iface.hwaddress = XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX #iface.ipaddress = 10.10.8.60 iface.transport_name = tcp iface.vlan_id = 6 iface.vlan_priority = 0 iface.iface_num = 0 iface.mtu = 0 iface.port = 0 # END RECORD # BEGIN RECORD 2.0-872.33.el6 iface.iscsi_ifacename = sw-iscsi-1 iface.net_ifacename = eth3.7 #iface.hwaddress = XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX #iface.ipaddress = 10.10.9.60 iface.transport_name = tcp iface.vlan_id = 7 iface.vlan_priority = 0 iface.iface_num = 0 iface.mtu = 0 iface.port = 0 # END RECORD Again, chances of this happening to someone else are slim to none, so likely waste of time typing this up. But, if someone does encounter this issue, I hope this post will help.

  • Synergy 1.5 crash (OSX 10.6.8)

    - by Oliver
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS I recently installed Synergy 1.5 r2278 (for Mac OSX 10.6.8) and was using it fine for most of the day, then it decided to stop working (the only thing I changed systemwise was the screensaver - and then after it started crashing disabled it - to see if it would resolve). When I start Synergy (on the Mac - Client) it says: after about 5 seconds (and successfully connecting to the Server) "synergyc quit unexpectedly" Here is the crash log (w/ binery info removed - too long for post requirements) Process: synergyc [1026] Path: /Applications/Synergy.app/Contents/MacOS/synergyc Identifier: synergy Version: ??? • IntellIJ editor doesn't appear

    - by neveu
I updated my IntellIJ install to the latest version (11.1.4) and now the Editor window doesn't appear. Double-clicking on the file, jump-to-source, nothing happens. No error message, it just doesn't appear. If I double-click on an xml layout file the preview window works, but no Editor window. Have installed and reinstalled; went back to an earlier version and it doesn't work there either. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Update: Editor works if I create a new project. • exc_bad_access on insertNewObjectForEntityForName:inManagedObjectContext

    - by matthewc
    I have a garbage collected Cocoa application built on 10.5 frameworks. In an NSOperation In a loop I am quickly creating hundreds of NSManagedObjects. Frequently the creation of those NSManagedObejcts will crash with a exc_bad_access error. for (offsetCount; offsetCount < [parsedData count]; offsetCount++) { NSManagedObject *child = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Thread" inManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; Thumbnail *thumb = [Thumbnail insertInManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; Image *image = [Image insertInManagedObjectContext:[self moc]]; ... } Thumbnail and Image are both subclasses of NSManagedObject generated with mogenerator. insertInManagedObjectContext: looks like NSParameterAssert(moc_); return [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Thumbnail" inManagedObjectContext:moc_]; NSParameterAssert(moc_); return [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Image" inManagedObjectContext:moc_]; The NSManagedObjectContext returned by [self moc] is created for the NSOperation with NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *coord = [(MyApp_AppDelegate *)[[NSApplication sharedApplication] delegate] persistentStoreCoordinator]; self.moc = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] init]; [self.moc setPersistentStoreCoordinator:coord]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(contextDidSave:) name:NSManagedObjectContextDidSaveNotification object:self.moc]; [self.moc setMergePolicy:NSMergeByPropertyObjectTrumpMergePolicy]; [self.moc setUndoManager:nil]; [self.moc setRetainsRegisteredObjects:YES]; moc is defined as (nonatomic, retain) and synthesized. As far as I can tell it, the persistent store and my appDelegate have no reason to be and are not being garbage collected. The stack trace looks like Thread 2 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.root.default-priority 0 libauto.dylib 0x00007fff82d63600 auto_zone_root_write_barrier + 688 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x00007fff826f963b objc_assign_strongCast_gc + 59 2 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x00007fff88677068 __CFBasicHashAddValue + 504 3 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x00007fff88676d2f CFBasicHashAddValue + 191 4 com.apple.CoreData 0x00007fff82bdee5e -[NSManagedObjectContext(_NSInternalAdditions) _insertObjectWithGlobalID:globalID:] + 190 5 com.apple.CoreData 0x00007fff82bded24 -[NSManagedObjectContext insertObject:] + 148 6 com.apple.CoreData 0x00007fff82bbd75c -[NSManagedObject initWithEntity:insertIntoManagedObjectContext:] + 716 7 com.apple.CoreData 0x00007fff82bdf075 +[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:inManagedObjectContext:] + 101 8 com.yourcompany.MyApp 0x000000010002c7a7 +[_Thumbnail insertInManagedObjectContext:] + 256 (_Thumbnail.m:14) 9 com.yourcompany.MyApp 0x000000010002672d -[ThreadParse main] + 10345 (B4ChanThreadParse.m:174) 10 com.apple.Foundation 0x00007fff85ee807e -[__NSOperationInternal start] + 698 11 com.apple.Foundation 0x00007fff85ee7d23 ____startOperations_block_invoke_2 + 99 12 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff812bece8 _dispatch_call_block_and_release + 15 13 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff8129d279 _dispatch_worker_thread2 + 231 14 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff8129cbb8 _pthread_wqthread + 353 15 libSystem.B.dylib 0x00007fff8129ca55 start_wqthread + 13 My app is crashing in other places with exc_bad_access but this is code that it happens most with.   • How can I instantiate a base class and then convert it to a derived class?

    - by Eric
I was wondering how to do this, consider the following classes public class Fruit { public string Name { get; set; } public Color Color { get; set; } } public class Apple : Fruit { public Apple() { } } How can I instantiate a new fruit but upcast to Apple, is there a way to instantiate a bunch of Fruit and make them apples with the name & color set. Do I need to manually deep copy? Of course this fails Fruit a = new Fruit(); a.Name = "FirstApple"; a.Color = Color.Red; Apple wa = a as Apple; System.Diagnostics.Debug.Print("Apple name: " + wa.Name); Do I need to pass in a Fruit to the AppleCTor and manually set the name and color( or 1-n properties) Is there an better design to do this?

  • Language restrictions on iPhone lifted?

    - by John Smith
Apparently Apple has changed some term in the agreement again. From http://www.appleoutsider.com/2010/06/10/hello-lua/ section 3.3.2 is now Unless otherwise approved by Apple in writing, no interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s). Notwithstanding the foregoing, with Apple’s prior written consent, an Application may use embedded interpreted code in a limited way if such use is solely for providing minor features or functionality that are consistent with the intended and advertised purpose of the Application. instead of the original No interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s). I am more interested in embedding Lua, but other people have other embeddings they want to make. I am wondering how you ask for permission, and what they mean by the terms "minor features" and "consistent" and how will Apple interpret this section? It seems to have enough loopholes to drive a real firetruck through.

  • Setting up SSL virtual hosts in Apache

    - by Bart van Heukelom
I'm trying to set up SSL, with SNI, in my apache and am getting the often-seen "ssl_error_rx_record_too_long" error in Firefox when accessing the site (https://test.me.dev.xxxx.net), from which I can conclude that the server is listening on port 443, but doesn't know to use SSL on it. The server is Ubuntu 9.04 with Apache 2.2.11 I enabled SSL in the default way (a2enmod ssl). Here is my relevant config: NameVirtualHost *:* Listen 80 <IfModule mod_ssl.c> Listen 443 </IfModule> ... <VirtualHost *:*> DocumentRoot /home ServerAlias *.dev.xxxx.net UseCanonicalName Off # project.user.dev.xxxx.net VirtualDocumentRoot /home/%2/dev/%1/web SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/certs/dev.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/apache2/certs/dev.key </VirtualHost> What is wrong?

  • Why don't I have write permission to my vmware virtual network device?

    - by Robert Martin
I want to allow my VMWare machine to force the virtual network it's on into promiscuous mode so I can play around with honeyd. I received an error message that told me to go to http://vmware.com/info?id=161 to allow this behavior. Based on their advice, I did: $ groupadd promiscuous $ cat /etc/group | grep promiscuous promiscuous:x:1002:robert $ usermod -a -G promiscuous robert $ id robert uid=1000(robert) gid=1000(robert) groups=1000(robert),....,1002(promiscuous) $ chgrp newgroup /dev/vmnet8 $ chmod g+rw /dev/vmnet8 $ ls -l /dev/vmnet8 crw-rw---- 1 root promiscuous 119, 8 2012-03-29 10:29 /dev/vmnet8 Looks like I gave RW permission to the promiscuous group, and added myself. Except that VMWare still gives me an error message that says I cannot enter promiscuous mode. To try out the group thing, I tried: $ echo "1" >/dev/vmnet8 bash: /dev/vmnet8: Permission denied That really surprised me: It makes me think that I still haven't properly given myself the correct permissions... What am I missing?

  • missing files after reassemble of RAID-5

    - by Kris_R
I had to open my file-server's housing on Sunday to replace a faulty fan. What I didn't see was that one of the sata-cables was not properly connected. The 1st thing I did after a reboot was a check of the RAID status and it showed immediately that one drive is missing. Till this moment the device was not used (however it was mounted, so I'm not 100% sure that system did nothing). I stopped md0 and re-plugged the cable: mdadm --stop /dev/md0 poweroff After another reboot I checked the removed drive: mdadm --examine /dev/sdd1 ... Checksum : 3276bc1d - correct Events : 315782 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 32K Number Major Minor RaidDevice State this 0 8 49 0 active sync /dev/sdd1 0 0 8 49 0 active sync /dev/sdd1 1 1 8 65 1 active sync /dev/sde1 2 2 8 33 2 active sync /dev/sdc1 3 3 8 17 3 active sync /dev/sdb1 I was a bit surprised that it was shown as active (even if earlier mdadm said, that this device was removed from array) and its checksum was OK. I recreated RAID with: mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 --scan The command mdadm --detail /dev/md0 showed that all drives were running and system was in "clean" state. I mounted the device md0 and then came hic-cup. I wanted to work on one of the last files that I had been using before all the situation and it was not there. In another place I missed actually all files from the directory where I was working. As far as I can see most of the files that are older than a few days are intact but some newer ones are missing. Now the big question: what would be your advice? Is there a way to get these data? I thought about removing the drive that was earlier labeled by mdadm and rebuild array with another empty HDD. I've found that after re-assemble the "broken" drive has another label (changed from sdd to sdb). Can this have influence on rebuilt process? If yes, how to reassemble the array properly? I'm sure the SATA-cables are connected still in the same order to the controller. p.s. Please no advises like "restore from backup". I'm doing back-ups on Sunday's night and this happened in the late afternoon, so backup is not really options for me. p.s.s. I asked this question on Unix&Linux but no answer came up during last two days. I'm getting quite anxious. Sorry for duplicating if any of you reading the other forum.

  • Resize underlying partitions in mdadm RAID1

    - by kyork
I have a home built NAS, and I need to slightly reconfigure some of my drive usage. I have an mdadm RAID1 composed of two 3TB drives. Each drive has one ext3 partition that uses the entire drive. I need to shrink the ext3 partition on both drives, and add a second 8GB or so ext3 partition to one, and swap partition of equal size to the other. I think I have the steps figured out, but wanted some confirmation. Resize the mdadm RAID resize2fs /dev/md0 [size] where size is a little larger than the currently used space on the drive Remove one of the drives from the RAID mdadm /dev/md0 --fail /dev/sda1 Resize the removed drive with parted Add the new partition to the drive with parted Restore the drive to the RAID mdadm -a /dev/md0 /dev/sda1 Repeat 2-5 for the other device Resize the RAID to use the full partition mdadm --grow /dev/md0 -z max Is there anything I've missed, or haven't considered?

  • 1Tb disk formatted on Linux won't mount on windows nor mac

    - by Pedro MC
I have an external HD (western digital) with 1Tb. I use Linux but I wanted to reserve a cross platform partition on the disk. I decided to create two partitions and used the "disks" application to do it. I created one partition with the LUKS (version 1) encryption and the other one, cross platform, in NTFS filesystem. Things work fine on my OS but when I try to use the disk (the cross platform partition) on both windows and mac the device is not recognized. What could it be? Next, output of "sfdisk -l /dev/sdb": Disk /dev/sdb: 121600 cylinders, 255 heads, 63 sectors/track Units = cylinders of 8225280 bytes, blocks of 1024 bytes, counting from 0 Device Boot Start End #cyls #blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 0+ 36473- 36473- 292968750 83 Linux /dev/sdb2 36473+ 121600- 85128- 683789062+ 83 Linux /dev/sdb3 0 - 0 0 0 Empty /dev/sdb4 0 - 0 0 0 Empty

  • No space left on device with encrypted disk that takes all space

    - by Yosef
    I use Ubuntu 11.04. There's no space left on device. I have encrypted the disk that takes up space (maybe it's good to disable it, but I don't know how). In shell, I get this message: No space left on device I run df -I: Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/sda1 3055616 602499 2453117 20% / none 210161 890 209271 1% /dev none 214789 8 214781 1% /dev/shm none 214789 53 214736 1% /var/run none 214789 3 214786 1% /var/lock /home/myuser/.Private 3055616 602499 2453117 20% /home/myuser df -I Edit: When I run only df: Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 48060296 45618928 0 100% / none 1538340 684 1537656 1% /dev none 1547596 808 1546788 1% /dev/shm none 1547596 104 1547492 1% /var/run none 1547596 0 1547596 0% /var/lock /home/myuser/.Private 48060296 45618928 0 100% /home/myuser Edit: I thinking about few solution but I don't know which better and how exactly to do them: to enlarge partition size (I cant install gparted - no more disk space) remove encryption of partition - I really not need that

  • Mac OSX Server 10.6 DNS Issues

    - by dallasclark
Hi, The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues. I receive the following errors (if they help) 01-Nov-2010 12:52:01.254 client 192.168.1.52#57051: view com.apple.ServerAdmin.DNS.public: query (cache) 'server.dev.home.gateway/A/IN' denied 01-Nov-2010 12:59:24.487 client 192.168.1.52#52858: view com.apple.ServerAdmin.DNS.public: query (cache) 'earth.server.dev.home.gateway/A/IN' denied At the moment I have the following setup in the DNS 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa.
