  • Unlocking AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition cores - what are the risks?

    I've got the above mentioned CPU and a GigaByte GA-MA790XT-UD4P motherboard, which should be capable of unlocking the extra two cores - if I'm lucky and they're not faulty. The Internet is full of instructions on how to do that. What I don't have is spare money to buy new hardware if I brick something. What are the risks when attempting to do this? Is it completely safe, or can I be left with an expensive pile of junk? What should I keep in mind when doing so? Bigger cooler maybe (I'm running with the default box cooler)? Should I lower the frequencies too? I've never done any OC before.

  • Running a 2048 x 1152 monitor on a Dell Vostro 220s with HD3450 video card

    I recently bought a new monitor which has a resolution of 2048 x 1152. However, this resolution is not on in the options list. I have tried installing ATI Catalyst but to no avail. I am running the monitor on the VGA cable. How can I add the resolution to the settings drop down? Additional info: VGA is through a splitter cable from DVI The outputs on my grahics card are DVI and VGA Monitor only has VGA input

    I'd like to convert a folder of PNGs into a quicktime .mov with PNG compression (it's a folder of fractals in an animation; PNG compression works great here and the losslessness is important). What programs will do this with minimal fuss? (I don't have or want to pay for a full license of QuickTime Pro.) UPDATE: Let me make this more clear: minimal fuss means: I download some EncoderMagic.app (for example), I double click it to launch it. I select the folder with my numbered images, and out pops my movie. No mess. No resizing. ... Perhaps this doesn't exist (or is called QuickTime Pro?)

    My primary monitor is attached to my onboard video card. My secondary monitor is attached to my PCI-E card. When I first start my computer, only the primary monitor is on, and it is the only monitor that is recognized. While I'm in Windows 7, if I turn on my secondary monitor, Windows 7 automatically detects it, and expands my desktop to stretch across both monitors. But if I turn off the secondary monitor, Windows 7 doesn't automatically disable it. Is there a way I can get it to automatically disable when I turn it off, or is there a utility that makes it easier to disable it instead of having to go to screen resolution?

    I do a lot of sketching with my pen-tablet. I use Microsoft Paint in Windows 7, and it is just perfect except for bad anti-aliasing. I found some videos of Salman Khan, where his sketching is really smooth and anti-aliased. Do you know what program he might use?     Hello, I successfully installed Mesa with "yum install Mesa*" and downloaded MesaDemos-7.8.tar.gz archive. Now I try follow instructions from "Mesa3d.org - Download / Insall - Compiling and Installing - 1.5 Running the demos", but in progs/demos there is only *.c files, when I try to compile them, I get many similar errors like: gears.c:(.text+0x54): undefined reference to `glShadeModel' I guess that this is very noob question, and I understand that there is very simple solution, but I haven't any idea... In beggining of the file there are all necessary #includes: #include <math.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> #include <GL/glut.h> So I have some questions: Is there some Mesa forum on the web? Is there some compiled demos? Is there some site with well described examples of Mesa using? What I need for compile those examples? I have CentOS 5 Thank you for ahead.

  • Three displays, one video card and no eyefinity mode

    I am looking for a video card to run three monitors, it could be hdmi, dvi or vga. I want the three monitors to show an extended desktop but as three different desktops with maybe different resolutions, so when i maximize something it should be maximized only in one monitor. The information seems confusing, I think eyefinity tricks the OS to make it looks like one big display. I am sure I dont want this. So my question(s) is, is there a video card in the market that support 3 displays without eyefinity? Or can I use an eyefinity enabled card ( with one active display port) to run three monitors and disable eyefinity from the driver settings or something?

  • How do I get the Dell 3007wfphc monitor to do other resolutions?

    I've borrowed a Dell 3007 WFP-HC monitor and it will only do 1280x800 and 2560x1600 resolutions crisply due to its lack of a real scaler. Every other resolution is fuzzy. 1280x800 is pixelated and I doubt my PC can play games at a reasonable frame rate at 2560x1600. Can I get something in between that looks good? I have a GeForce GTX 560 video card and Windows 7. Is it possible to get the GPU to render at a more reasonable resolution, say 1920x1200, and stretch it to the native 2560x1600 to make the monitor happy? I've been poking at the NVIDIA Control Panel but to no effect. Thank you.

    Have you seen anything like this before? Not always but permanently shows up this strange behaviour. What's the name of that problem? And - ofcoz:) - how can I solve it?     Programs I found I found these programs to capture OpenGL 3D scene : 3D Ripper, OpenGL and D3D geometry capture, there are some solved problems with 3D Ripper GLIntercept captures OpenGL function calls OpenGL Extractor captures 3d geometry; should work as plugin for GLIntercept another tool to capture OpenGL 3D data EDIT: There is also HijackGL which changes how a scene is rendered so it probably can be used to capture geometry; it is backed up by a academic paper; it is just just a nice program, not related to what I want i think (or it would might be hard to change it to be for what I want, because it would require programming). 3D Ripper captures geometry, textures and shaders. OpenGL Extractor captures just geometry ... General questions about such programs What is Your experience with these programs? Which of these programs would You recommmend? Do You know other such programs? Were there any problems with them, or are there problems with them in general? Are there programs which work best overall, or is it specific to certain 3d applications? What I need to do? I am looking to program which can capture 3d geometry for study purposes. And also for a program to capture 3D animation (frames of 3d animation). I tried only 3D Ripper because application I try to capture data from is on Direct 3D. 3D Ripper works with at least Direct 3D 9, this application has Direct 3D 6.   • Driver issue for 7850 HD Diamond Windows 7

    I have an issue with windows 7 implementing the drivers ati provides for my 7850 HD Diamond video card. The video card is plugged in correctly to the PCIE 2.0 slots of my motherboard (p6t asus) with more then enough power. Fortunately the card works as I have my monitor plugged into the card itself and I can see just fine. However windows 7 does not replace the standard vga default microsoft driver with catalyst drivers that I've tried installing from online as well as the CD. Every time I install the drivers using Catalyst Install manager it always finishes with "Install complete(Warnings occured)". I then see the warnings it has which it instead reports that it successfully installed the SDK, Catalyst Install Manager, and HDMI/AUDIO packages. When I check my device manager after that, the display adapter still shows as standard vga and that its still using microsoft default display adapter. Now this current card is replacing an old card of mine which is the ATI 4890 HD which works beautifully. In fact for the old card to work, all I need to do is go to device manager and right click on standard vga - click update driver and windows 7 magically finds the correct driver to install and everything is good. Not so with the new card. I've even went into my regedits and uninstalled every bit of ati driver software before reinstalling my new card. Nothing's worked thus far. I've already exchanged my card out once and talked to customer support from my motherboard, microsoft, and ati all blaming the other. Please help me out!!

  • Getting jerky backgrounds on Win7 on iMac 27'' 2560x1440

    I installed Win7 on bootcamp on my new iMac 27'' (ATI videocard) and everything was good until recently I noticed that the default win7 background (then one on the background on login) looked jerky. When I say jerky I mean the kind of jerky you get if you can't display enough colours, and instead of nice fading shades you just get stripes and jerky patterns. I am on native resolution but even if I go down to 1920x1080 I get the same. This might have happened after a firmware update but as I don't use windows very often I am not too sure it's what caused it. Oh, and when I am playing games everything looks OK (as in not jerky!). Any help appreciated!

  • Old PCI Video Card and PCI-Express ATI Radeon HD 4200 Pro Living Together

    I have two video cards installed in a Dell Optiplex 745. The PCI card is from 2001 and I was hoping to be able to install it, allowing me to have 3 monitors. The Radeon is already running two itself. The problem is that when I boot the box with default BIOS settings the PCI card displays video to the single display but not the other two. In device manager I can see that both video cards are visible with drivers loaded correctly but underneath monitors I only have a single Generic PnP monitor from the VGA connection to the PCI card. If I switch the BIOS setting to force PCI-E I get the Radeon to display to the two other monitors. When I check device manager with this configuration I see that the PCI card displays an error saying the driver could not be started. Any ideas?

    Hello, I'm new to animation. I have Max 2010. Basically I have a ball and it has keyframes where it bounces and moves 15 units forward I want a way to be able to add this animation as many times as I want so it bounces and always moves 15 more units. When I shift drag my keyframes, the ball moves 15 units, then quickly goes back and moves the same 15 units. I want it to be like a bip file where it can be added relative to the current position. (Essentially creating a generic ball bounce). Thanks

  • Spots appear in a rectangle area on screen, ubuntu gnome 13.04, nvidia driver

    I am using Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 with nvidia-310 driver installed. My GPU is GeForce GTX650. Strange spots freqently appear on screen, with following traits: Spots are restricted in one or two rectangle areas at any instant. When typing, the pattern of spots change. Possibly increase, or all disappear when one key pressed. Mouse movement also influences. This problem last within one boot. The only way can I get rid of this problem is to reboot. It can be detected as soon as entering desktop if it appears. Simultaneously, the "power off" option is lost in the top-right menu of Gnome3. Never such problem when using windows 7 on the same computer, neither ubuntu with Nouveou driver. Seldomly, half of the screen become black. I googled a lot. Similar conditions are described, but no confirmed solution. Uninstall-r einstall strategy does not work. Any clue solving this will be appeciated.
