  • buffer size for socket connection in c++

    I'm trying to build a basic POP3 mail client in C/++, but I've run into a bit of an issue. Since you have to define the buffer size when building the program, but a message can be arbitrarily large, how do you, say, get the mail server to send it to you in parts? And if this isn't the correct means of solving the problem, what is? And while I'm here, can anyone confirm for me that RFC 2822 is still the current document defining email layout? Thanks

    I want to show a table with the list of strings which are localized. The straightforward method would be: a) Point data source to my ViewController b) Define an array c) Allocate the array in my ViewController and init (arrayWithObjects) it with the strings from localized resources (NSLocalizedString) d) Use this array in UITableViewDataSource delegated methods Mainly my concern is item b). The construction looks quite heavy and I wonder whether I can somehow specify and load whole list of localized string at once.

  • 2 roles, admin and user. Is using anything other than basic http auth overkill?

    I'm building my first website with rails,it consists of a blog, a few static pages and a photo gallery. The admin section has namespaced controllers. I also want to create a mailing list, collecting contact info, (maybe a spree store in the future too.) Should I just use basic http authentication and check if the user is admin? Or is a plugin like authlogic better, then define user roles even though there would only be two; admin and user?

    I need to have a file for database configuration outside of EAR file of my EJB application. Even if I define a datasource and call it via JNDI, I still have some properties that I want to change, like hibernate.dialect or hibernate.show_sql, for example. I tried using: <property name="hibernate.ejb.cfgfile" value="some-file.xml" /> and it works fine when some-file.xml is in jar file, but how to call it from another location.     I'm a little confused about scope of variables, in ruby I wrote a test program: class Test attr_reader :tester def initialize(data) @tester = data end def getData tester end end puts Test.new(11).getData now this works fine, the attr_reader, but my confusion is that since I've define attr_reader :tester then why can't I go tester = data rather then @tester = data, because when retrieving the data in getData I only have to write tester and not @tester
