• FLEX: is PopupManager working with mouseover / mouseout events ?

  hi, I want to make work PopupManager as a Tooltip. So I want to create a popup everytime I move the mouse over my component and make it disappear when I move the mouse out. Moreover, I have many components in my canvas, so I need it not to be too expensive. Also, when I move the mouse out from the component, but over the pop-up, it should not disappear, because I want to click on the buttons inside it. I need something similar to gmail chat popups. Is it doable with PopupManager ? thanks

• Amazon ELB CNAME record not working

  Hi there, I have set up my EC2 infrastructure behind an ELB instance and by using the ELBs DNS name everything works as expected. Now i wanted to forward a subdomain of my main project domain to the ELBs DNS Name with a CNAME entry. I did this about 12 hours ago and it doesnt seem to work, and i dont know why. The subdomain just cant be resolved. This is the DNS entry which was processed from my DNS provider without errors yesterday: @ IN A 111.111.111.111 localhost IN A 127.0.0.1 mail IN A 111.111.111.111 www IN A 111.111.111.111 ftp IN CNAME www beta IN CNAME myelbnamehere.eu-west-1.elb.amazonaws.com imap IN CNAME www loopback IN CNAME localhost pop IN CNAME www relay IN CNAME www smtp IN CNAME www @ IN MX 10 mail Using nslookup, all the subdomains and main domain gets looked up correctly, but beta.domain.com doesnt. I get "** server can't find beta.domain.com: NXDOMAIN" What am i doing wrong ? Do i need to wait longer ? When i use the ELB DNS name directly everything works as expected. When i do an NSlookup on my providers DNS Server, the CNAME gets resolved, but it looks like any other DNS server cant find the subdomain thanks in advance

• Android Image Orientation Issue on Motorola Droid

  Hi there, Our app uses the gallery pick action to grab an image from the device to upload to a new blog post. We're seeing on the Moto Droid that images taken in portrait are being sent back to the app in landscape orientation so the image is sideways. AFAIK this only occurs on the Droid. Found this via google, but we need the full size image to be uploaded in the correct orientation so the solution doesn't work for us: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_frm/thread/1246475fd4c3fdb6?pli=1 An easy way to reproduce this is to take a picture in portrait on the Droid, then send it to yourself via Gmail. In the email message, the image will be in landscape (sideways). I've tested on the droid 2.1 update and the issue is still there.

• Microsoft Entrourage: rendering hyperlinks?

  When we send emails from my project, we send in both text/plain and text/html formats. All major clients (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, thunderbird, outlook) correctly display the simple HTML that we are using. However, Entourage renders all tags EXCEPT hyperlinks. What is confusing is that emails from other domains render hyperlinks correctly in Entourage. We have tried comparing the source / headers of our emails with others emails that seem to "work" and don't see any obvious differences. I googled around this issue and the only thing I could find what that Entourage doesn't allow users to insert hyperlinks when composing a message. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

• Does RVM "failover" to another ruby instance on error?

  Have a strange problem in that I have a Rake task that seems to be using multiple versions of Ruby. When one fails, it seems to try another one. Details MacBook running 10.6.5 rvm 1.1.0 Rubies: 1.8.7-p302, ree-1.8.7-2010.02, ruby-1.9.2-p0 Rake 0.8.7 Gem 1.3.7 Veewee (provisioning Virtual Machines using Opcode.com, Vagrant and Chef) I'm not entirely sure the specific details of the error matter, but since it might be an issue with Veewee itself. So, what I'm trying to do is build a new box base on a veewee definition. The command fails with an error about a missing method- but what's interesting is how it fails. Errors I managed to figure out that if I only have one Ruby installed with RVM, it just fails. If I have more than one Ruby install, it fails at the same place, but execution seems to continue in another interpreter. Here are two different clipped console outputs. I've clipped them for size.   Hello, I'm using C# to send email newsletters for subscribers. There's no problem with sending the email but some email clients like outlook and hotmail receive html newsletter as an attachment and the email body contains only plaintext with html tags removed and some clients like gmail receive the email just fine. What actually creates this behavior? If i put just few html tags in to message outlook and hotmail shows the newsletter fine but as i put in more html elements my mail arrives as attachment. I've been trying to find out how to make my email appear ok in most popular email clients like outlook but have had no success so far. Anyone care to enlighten me how this email + html stuff actually works?

• Any significance to Google's "expires" date being Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT?

  I was looking at the response headers for my GMail account and noticed that the date Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT shows up as the value for "Expires" over and over again. I suppose this is just an easy constant to make sure the browser understands this is past its freshness date. But is there any significance to that particular date? One might as easily have used the same date in 2000, or 1970, or whatever. It's not quirky enough to be someone's birthday or date of college graduation or anything personal like that. Maybe it's just arbitrary, but I was wondering if someone has a good explanation why that particular date was chosen.

I have read of someone running, production-wise, Google app engine development version on their own server. My questions are: Are there any security issues running GAE development on your own server in production mode and exposing it to the www? If so how to mitigate them? Can GAE dev be run on Amazon? Is it possible to port my GAE apps running on Google servers to a GAE running on Amazon, without code changes, but without changing any reference in using other gdata services such as google docs, youtube, gmail, etc. How to configure GAE dev server to use my own hadoop? Or to use Amazon's hadoop?

• What is the easiest way to get an embedded upload progress bar using Ruby/Sinatra/Haml/Passenger/ngi

  I have a website where people can upload 30+mb of data in a single block, and I want to be able to show them the progress of their upload without causing the web page to become unresponsive, similar to how flash uploads work in gmail. There's this question here, but I don't know if that progress bar is embedded in the page or if it's using the browser's progress bar. I'm also a bit of a web newb, so I'm not sure if it's the 'easiest'. I asked the swfupload guys how to do this here, and the answer I got is 'this tool requires some knowledge to use it' without giving me much help in figuring out where to get started. I also asked this question on ServerFault, and got no response, so maybe that was the wrong place to ask. I'm all for learning new things and so forth, but there are a lot of potential pathways to take here. Where should I start, and what do I need to know to make everything work with sinatra, haml, ruby, passenger, and nginx? Thanks!

When cx_Freeze runs it movies everything to the build directory. I have some other files that i would like included in my build directory. How can i do this? • Comet implementation for ASP.NET?

  I've been looking at ways to implement gmail-like messaging inside a browser, and arrived at the Comet concept. However, I haven't been able to find a good .NET implementation that allows me to do this within IIS (our application is written in ASP.NET 2.0). The solutions I found (or could think of, for that matter) require leaving a running thread per user - so that it could return a response to him once he gets a message. This doesn't scale at all, of course. So my question is - do you know of an ASP.NET implementation for Comet that works in a different way? Is that even possible with IIS?

  I configured it on Friday night and all worked well. Today for some reason it stopped working and I can't figure out why. When you goto the secure page it's acting like I have a self-signed certificate and I don't.   I have recently noticed that a lot of JavaScript files on the web starts with ; immediately following the comment section. For example, this jQuery plugin's code starts with /** * jQuery.ScrollTo * Copyright (c) 2007-2008 Ariel Flesler - aflesler(at)gmail(dot)com | http://flesler.blogspot.com * Dual licensed under MIT and GPL. * Date: 9/11/2008 .... skipping several lines for brevity... * * @desc Scroll on both axes, to different values * @example $('div').scrollTo( { top: 300, left:'+=200' }, { axis:'xy', offset:-20 } ); */ ;(function( $ ){ Why does the file needs to start with ;? I see this convention on server-side JavaScript files as well. What is an advantage and disadvantage of doing this?

• error with Security Exception

  I am getting the following error on my page: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. The problem is with the following code SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.gmail.com", 587); What's weird is that when testing it at my localhost, everything works fine, but when I put it on my 1and1 web host it generates the error above. I contacted their support and here's their answer. We do check the error logs and the operation require a FullTrust environment which currently fall under restriction on .NET Framewor k What should I do?
