    Hello, complete noob to Haskell here with probably an even noobier question. I'm trying to get ghci output working and am stuck on instance declarations. How could I declare an instance for "(Show (Stack - Stack))" given: data Cmd = LD Int | ADD | MULT | DUP deriving Show type Prog = [Cmd] type Stack = [Int] type D = Stack -> Stack I've been trying to create a declaration like: instance Show D where show = Stack but all my attempts have resulted in illegal instance declarations.     I am trying to right a Google Cloud Platform app in python with Flask that makes an MQTT connection. I have included the paho python library by doing pip install paho-mqtt -t libs/. However, when I try to run the app, even if I don't try to connect to MQTT. For example, I'm trying to match the string "variable length" in the string "[a lot of whitespaces and/or tabs]variable length lookbehind", and I have something like this but it does not go well in various RegExp testers: ^(?<=[ \t]+).+(?= lookbehind) If it's an illegal pattern, what would be a good workaround to it?     If I allocate memory in one thread in C++ (either new or malloc) can I de-allocate it in another, or must both occur in the same thread? Ideally, I'd like to avoid this in the first place, but I'm curious to know is it legal, illegal or implementation dependent. Edit: The compilers I'm currently using include VS2003, VS2008 and Embedded C++ 4.0, targetting XP, Vista, Windows 7 and various flavours of Windows CE / PocketPC & Mobile. So basically all Microsoft but across an array of esoteric platforms.

One construct they both support is this x=["key" => "value"] Knowing the difference between arrays and hashes, I would think this to be illegal, but the result in Ruby is [{"key" => "value"}] Why is this? And with this kinda syntax why can't you do x=("key" => "value") Why is an array a special case for implicitly created hashes?

But object Board { def getObjectAt(x:Int, y:Int):Placeable { return locations(x)(y) } } returns the error Board.scala:8: error: illegal start of declaration return locations(x)(y) I found some stuff that says the second form convinces the scala compiler you're trying to specify an expansion to the return type Placeable. Is there a way I can fix this, or should I just avoid specifying a return type here?
