    I need to generate a table from a List(Of Students). My Student class has properties for AcademicYear, TeachingSet, Surname and Forenames, is sorted in that order and also properties for ID and start date.   • How to reschedule Alarm Manager on Preference Change

    Hi, I have an Android Service. When a phone boots up, a broadcast receiver receives a notification and it schedules the service to run repeatedly at a gap of X minutes. Henceforth After every X minutes another broadcast receiver gets those notifications and kicks the service off, which does it's job and quits. So far so good. Now I want those X minutes to be configurable. I have a perf.xml similar to what is given at the link below. This XML captures all my preferences along with that of service timer. http://android-journey.blogspot.com/2010/01/for-almost-any-application-we-need-to.html Now when user changes preferences; how can I reschedule the alarm? Is there a way I can set a listener on preferences change? I have used only XML files to speficy preferences screen. Any ideas will be welcome. Cheers

  • iPhone UI layout debugging

    I have this chronic issue with iPhone UI development where views sometimes seem to appear on the screen in a location different than what is reported by their frame property. Here is what I am doing to try to debug the issue: UIView *currentView = self.view; while (currentView!=nil) { NSLog(@"frame: %f,%f,%f,%f", currentView.frame.origin.x, currentView.frame.origin.y, currentView.frame.size.width, currentView.frame.size.height); currentView = currentView.superview; } I expect this should show me the coordinates and size of each element up the hierarchy from the given view to the app's root UIWindow element, with the coordinates for each element relative to its parent. However, that does not seem to be the case. In my current situation, I have a UI I'm trying to debug where every other time I rotate the device, the whole UI shifts up or down 20 pixels, yet the code block above reports exactly the same numbers every time. I tried calling the above code after as much as a second delay, but that the numbers still come out the same each time. Does anyone know a better way to inspect the screen coordinates of UI elements? If I can detect when one is wrong, I can compensate for the problem when it appears.

    I don't know what's the best way to doing this. On my application.html.erb I define a header div. My default controller ( root ) is a homepage controller. And I wish that if I'm at index of the homepage the header is rendering with some content, but all other controllers render another content inside that header. How can I make a condition in that header div to render different content based on the controller that's being rendered?

    I am writing a windows filesystem minifilter driver that must fail IRP's in a preoperation callback. How can I find out from the callback parameters if the operation is read-like ( only reads data ) or it's write-like ( modifies data on the disk - write, delete etc ) ? I'm thinking on: Data->Iopb->TargetFileObject->ReadAccess Data->Iopb->TargetFileObject->WriteAccess But I'm not sure, I think thees are available only in postoperation callback. The documentation is really cumbersome.   • Advanced ASP.NET Gridview Layout

    So i had a feature request to add fields to a second table row for a single data row on a GridView. At first, I looked at extending the functionality of the GridView but soon realized this would be a huge task and since I consider this request a shim for a larger future feature decided against it. Also want to move to MVC in the near future and this would be throw away code.     I am developing a a game in Flash using the PureMVC framework. From time to time I need to show dialog pop-up window to get a user response back (e.g. "Cancel", "OK" and other kinds of asynchronous user feedback) while "locking" the background for interactivity. I need some management for my pop-ups: all pop-up notifications should be stacked up, so that if two (or more) pop-up messages are initiated at the same time I show them one by one. What's the best practice here? Should I employ a proxy to manage my pop-ups (sounds unreasonable). How do I get feedback back from my dialog? using notifications?

    I am still fairly new to C# and I am trying to decide the best way to structure a new program. Here is what I want to do and I would like feed back on my idea. Presentation Layer Business Layer (Separate Class Library) Data Layer (Separate Class Library) Model Layer (Separate Class Library) What I am struggling with is if it is ok to have the classes in the Data Layer and Business Layer inherit from the types I define in Model Layer. This way I can extended the types as needed in my Business Layer with any new properties I see fit. I might not use every property from the Model type in my Business Layer class but is that really a big deal? If this isn't clear enough I can try and put together an example.

  • Database nesting layout confusion

    I'm no expert in databases and a beginner in Rails, so here goes something which kinda confuses me... Assuming I have three classes as a sample (note that no effort has been made to address any possible Rails reserved words issue in the sample). class File < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :records, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :records, :allow_destroy => true end class Record < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :file has_many :users, :dependent => :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :users, :allow_destroy => true end class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :record end Upon entering records, the database contents will appear as such. My issue is that if there are a lot of Files for the same Record, there will be duplicate record names. This will also be true if there will be multiple Records for the same user in the the Users table. I was wondering if there is a better way than this so as to have one or more files point to a single Record entry and one or more Records will point to a single User. BTW, the File names are unique. Files table: id name 1 name1 2 name2 3 name3 4 name4 Records table: id file_id record_name record_type 1 1 ForDaisy1 ... 2 2 ForDonald1 ... 3 3 ForDonald2 ... 4 4 ForDaisy1 ... Users table: id record_id username 1 1 Daisy 2 2 Donald 3 3 Donald 4 4 Daisy Is there any way to optimize the database to prevent duplication of entries, or this should really the correct and proper behavior. I spread out the database into different tables to be able to easily add new columns in the future.

  • div stacking/layout with css or javascript

    so i have 4 divs (i actually have many more but this will simplify the question). i want to display them in two columns. the 4 divs vary in height. the number of actual divs in the end will vary. so if i have this <div id="1" style="height: 200px" class="inline">some content here</div> <div id="2" style="height: 600px" class="inline">some content here</div> <div id="3" style="height: 300px" class="inline">some content here</div> <div id="4" style="height: 200px" class="inline">some content here</div> with styling thus .inline { display: inline-block; vertical-align: top; width: 48%;} so #1 would go left and then #2 would shove up beside it to the right, great, but the #3 will not slide up the 400px to fit nicely below #1. (of course)... it goes on the left side but at 600px from the top clearing the bottom of #2. etc... how would i get the divs to slide up into the empty spaces, is it possible with css? jquery maybe? i know i could write column divs to mark it up, but since the number of divs constantly change and the heights vary according to content. It would be nice to just get rid of the space since we dont really care about the order. any thoughts?

    So I am trying to get the effect of having two frames inside a 750px wide frame. .news {width: 750px;} .news1 {width:550px;} .news2 {width:200px;} Very simple css at this stage. So in effect, news1 is above news2, rather than side by side. Any ideas?

    I have a console app containing an application configuration file containing one connection string as shown below: <configuration> <connectionStrings> <add name="Target" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; Database=MYDB; Integrated Security=SSPI;" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> When I pass this to my Connection using: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[1].ToString() I have two values in there, hence using the second in the collection, my question is where is this second coming from? I have checked the Bin version and original and its not mine! Its obviously a system generated one but I have not seen this before? Can anyone enlighten me? The mystery connection string is: data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true This isn't a problem as such I would just like to know why this is occuring? Thanks in advance! For future reference to those who may or may not stumble on this, after discovering the machine.config its become apparent it is bad practice to refer to a config by its index as each stack will potentially be different, which is why "Keys" are used.   • Webpage layout order for my webapp - does it matter if the Sidebar is programmatically displayed bef

    OK that's the worst title I could ever possibly think up. But I'm not too sure how to phrase it! What I mean is, is it inefficient for the browser, search engine optimisation, or any other important factors, if programmatically my float:righted sidebar appears in the markup before the main content div, which is set to float:left? To the user, the main content appears on the left, and the sidebar on the right. In the source code it appears like so: <div id="sidebar">This is where my sidebar goes </div> <div id="content">This is where my content goes </div> Will this affect SEO or other factors in my page?

There are standard tools for this kind of task on both windows and unix - what I need is a cross platform program which could run on different operating systems using the same configuration. A portable C/C++ library which implements the basic functionality (i.e. create processes, signal process termination events and all that) would be ok too.
