• Checking whether product key will work with SBS 2003

  We've recently absorbed a small company who had a Dell PowerEdge server running SBS 2003. For some reason, the hard disks have been wiped. We have the product key though from the sticker on the side of the case but not the installation media: Win SBS Std 2003 1-2 CPU 5-CAL OEM software We do have a Dell labelled set of four CDs labelled SBS 2003 in our store and I've built a VM from this media but it doesn't prompt for the product key during install. Is there any way to ascertain whether this media will work with this product key without going through activation? I know one can activate several times but would prefer to check we've got the right media before doing this. Thanks, Rob.

• MediaTemple Django Bad Gateway

  I have a site running on GS server on MediaTemple. It's Django/PostgreSQL setup. For some reason from time to time I get Bad Gateway error and I can't figure out what's causing it. What can cause this error? • Ubuntu 9.04: Ripping CDs with grip?

  I tried to rip a CD tonight, and couldn't figure out how to configure grip - /dev/cdrom doesn't seem to be the mount point for music CDs any more. How can I configure grip to find CDs? Update: /etc/fstab has /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0 But there's nothing visible in /media/cdrom0 (or /media/cdrom, which is a symlink to cdrom0) There's an icon on the desktop labeled "Audio Disk" and opening it shows the .wav files on the CD. The location is cdda://sr0/, but grip doesn't like that either. Trying to manually mount /dev/sr0, I get $ sudo mount -t auto /dev/sr0 foo/ mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: you must specify the filesystem type Update 2: Tried to change the media handling preferences (From a file browser, Edit-Preferences, Media, CD Audio) to "Do Nothing". • ipconfig /release not working, why?

  ipconfig /release is not working, why is that? here is a sequence where I put my cable in get an IP, try ipconfig /release and it tells me it can't release wireless, but there is no wireless connection. i'm just trying to release the wired one. • UIButton custom font vertical alignment

  I've got a UIButton which uses a custom font, which is set when my view loads: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.searchButton.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName: @"FONTNAME" size: 15.0 ]; } The problem I've got is that the font is appearing to float up of the center line. If I comment out this line, the default font appears vertically centered fine. But changing to the custom font breaks the vertical alignment. I'm getting the same issue on a Table Cell with a custom font too. Do I need to tell the view somewhere that the custom font is not as tall as other fonts? EDIT: I've just realized that the font I'm using is a Windows TrueType Font. I can use it fine in TextEdit on the Mac, only a problem with the alignment in my App

• Recovery Harddisk for windows 7 (Details inside)

  I want to create recovery media (DVD or HDD) for my Windows 7 running on my VAIO laptop. I noticed that my HDD is already having 13.51 GB partition which is labelled as "Recovery Partition" (not visible in My Computer but visible in Computer management tool in control panel). Can you please suggest me how to use this Recovery partition as a recovery media for my windows? I don't want to create DVDs as recovery media.

• Triple-Boot + 4 partition Limit

  I just bought a new hard drive so that I could convert my XP-only machine into an XP-Ubuntu-Windows 7 triple boot machine. Since the drive is absurdly huge (1 TB) I wouldn't mind throwing ReactOS into the mix, too. I just found out that master boot records are limited to 4 entries, meaning 4 primary partitions. I had Windows XP set up on my old drive as a boot partition, a program files partition and a media partition. Since I really didn't want to install XP from scratch, I cloned this setup on my new drive. This leaves me one MBR partition entry for installing Windows 7, Ubuntu and ReactOS. I'd like to avoid having to install XP from scratch like the plague, partly because it's supposed to be a safety net in case things go wrong with my other OS's and because I've invested a lot of time getting it set up exactly the way I like it. Here are the options I've considered and why I don't like them: Install Windows 7 on my media partition. This would work, but I prefer to keep my media partition completely separate from any OS, so that I can reformat an OS partition without affecting my media partition at all. Use wubi or something to install Ubuntu in the same partition as something else. Again, this is brittle. Move all my media to a logical drive on an extended partition. Create another logical drive on this extended partition for Ubuntu. The problem here is that extended partitions are rather brittle--if you nuke one, it renders the rest useless. Just put the old drive back in my computer and run XP off it. Use the new one for the other OS's. The problem here is that the old drive is slower and uses extra power, generates extra heat, etc. Can anyone suggest any other possibilities that I may have overlooked?

• Is rsync --delete safe in case of disk failure

  I have two data hard drives on my Linux server and I use second as a backup for a first drive. I use rsync for that purpose. An example would be: rsync -r -v --delete /media/disk1/ /media/disk2/ What this does is that it copies every file/directory from /media/disk1/ to /media/disk2/ but also deletes any difference. For example, lets say that files A and B but not file C are on disk1, and on disk2 there is no A and B files, but there is C. The result would be that after the command on disk2 I'd have files A and B, but file C would be deleted, just like on disk1. Now, a rather disastrous scenario had crossed my mind; what if disk1 dies, system continues to work since system files are on my system disk, but when rsync tries to backup my data on disk2 from broken disk1, it deletes all the files from disk2 because it can't read anything on disk1. Is this a possible scenario, or is there a protection from it build in rsync?

• Accessing SVN Repository on external drive

  I've installed SVN on my Raspberry PI and configured it to access the repository on an external hard drive. In /etc/fstab, I've have the following: //192.168.1.12/SHARE/repos /media/repos cifs sec=ntlm,username=Guest,password=,_netdev,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777 0 0 This mounts with no issues. When I go to add a project to the repository using the following command: sudo svn import mywebsite/ file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite/ -m "Initial Upload" I get the following error: svn: E170000: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite' svn: E170000: Unable to open an ra_local session to URL svn: E170000: Local URL 'file://media/repos/mainrepository/mywebsite' contains unsupported hostname The only thing I think maybe causing the issue is the file settings: drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 0 Jun 11 2009 repos As you can see the owner is root, I think it needs to be www-data, but for some reason I can't change it. Any help appreciated.

  I am new to java. Here I am trying to create java package. And try to compile it from another directory . • updatedb & locate command problem - Files from external hard drive are no longer indexed after rebooting

  Files from my external hard drive are no longer indexed after rebooting. I have to remount and then run # updatedb after each reboot. The problem is updatedb takes a few minutes for my external hard drives. Is there any way I can retain indexing for my externals after I reboot so that the locate command can search through my externals? • How to rebuild fstab automatically

  I accidentally removed all the entries from the fstab files while doing a backup (Yeah, I know ;)). I would like to know if there is a way to rebuild it with the current mount options, since I did not restart the server since the deletion. If there is no such program, could anybody help me rebuild it. • Problem with APTonCD application

  I created a iso image using aptoncd & burned it to a dvd. Now when i tried to restore, the program does not detect the dvd in the drive. It shows "Please insert a disc in the drive." and if we click "ok" it shows E: Failed to mount the cdrom. The dvd is in the drive itself. • Cannot mount USB drive -- FSTAB error

  Recently, one of my desktops seems to have developed a problem with the fstab and mounting USB drives. The specific error I receive is... Unable to mount TRAVELDRIVE Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: Unprivileged user can not mount NTFS block devices using the external FUSE library. Either mount the volume as root, or rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated FUSE support and make it setuid root. • mount ext4 formated external drive->the drives green light won't stop flashing

  I've installed kubuntu (after 10 years I am trying to play with linux) and manged to attach a external 1TB HDD drive over USB! The drive was formatted with NTFS and everything was working OK. I also changed the /etc/fstab here is my ntfs mount setting: /dev/sdb1 /media/samsung nts-3g auto,user,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=000,utf-8 0, 0 Now, I've reparationed the drive and formated it with ext4 filesystem! change my fstb like: /dev/sdb1 /media/samsung ext4 defaults,noatime 0, 0 now, when I plug my dive/or call sudo mount -a, my external drive's green light starts to flash and won't stop, but mount works .... What is the Problem? is this because of ext4? because with NTFS this won't happen! btw. after changing the owner of the /media/samsung and setting permissions 777, I can also access my drive like creating new folder atc. (although is's flashing constantly)! What is my mistake? btw. can you please let me know how to set the owner and the permissions for my /media/samsung directory in fstab for ext4 like I did it for NTFS? Thanks in advance

• Connect to NFS on availability

  What would be a good way to automatically mount an NFS when it gets/is available? I have the following: Media server at home, running Ubuntu, 10.10 with GUI *) Laptop often at home, often on the road or at clients. Ubuntu 10.10 with GUI. What I'd like is my laptop connecting to the nfs (or any other mountable networked filesystem) so that Banshee sees all the music, new podcast-entries (and video) from that media-server. I already have firefly (mt-daapd) running, which works, but is flakey on both server-side and client-side. But its biggest downside, is that I cannot easily fix metadata on files on the media-server this way. DAAP is read-only by design. I can mount nfs manually, through a sudo mount /media/nfsmultimedia/. I am not looking for a manual, or howto on setting up a NFS client and server. Merely a way to have this more transparently working. Obviously I'd like the NFS to be unmounted if the network is no longer available (i.e. when I open my laptop-lid on my clients buro). It may be, that an NFS is not suited for this, in that case, I'd love to hear other options. :) *) Actually: I also have a fileserver, backupserver and webserver to which I'd like to connect in a somewhat similar way. Right now I connect to these over SSH, using gvfs.
