  • Reset SQL variable inside SELECT statement

    - by Jason McCreary
I am trying to number some rows on a bridge table with a single UPDATE/SELECT statement using a counter variable @row. For example: UPDATE teamrank JOIN (SELECT @row := @row + 1 AS position, name FROM members) USING(teamID, memberID) SET rank = position Is something like this possible or do I need to create a cursor? If it helps, I am using MySQL 5.

  • MySQL select column length in php

    - by Patrick
Hello! How do i get the actual max length of a specified column in php? For instance, this table: id - int(11) name - string(20) I want in php to select the maximum number of characters that a field can have, like SELECT length(name) from table1 and it should then return 20 (since its the maximum number of characters for that field).

  • Autopostback select lists in ASP.NET MVC using jQuery

    - by rajbk
This tiny snippet of code show you how to have your select lists autopostback its containing form when the selected value changes. When the DOM is fully loaded, we get all select nodes that have an attribute of “data-autopostback” with a value of “true”. We wire up the “change” JavaScript event to all these select nodes. This event is fired as soon as the user changes their selection with the mouse.  When the event is fired, we find the closest form tag for the select node that raised the event and submit the form. $(document).ready(function () { $("select:[data-autopostback=true]").change(function () { $(this).closest("form").submit(); }); }); A select tag with autopostback enabled will look like this <select id="selCategory" name="Category" data-autopostback="true"> <option value='1'>Electronics</option> <option value='2'>Books</option> </select> The reason I am using “data-" suffix in the attribute is to be HTML5 Compliant. A custom data attribute is an attribute in no namespace whose name starts with the string "data-", has at least one character after the hyphen, is XML-compatible, and contains no characters in the range U+0041 to U+005A (LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A to LATIN CAPITAL LETTER Z). The snippet can be used with any HTML page.

  • mysqld crashes on any statement

    - by ??iu
I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement. The client looks like: Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A Welcome to the MySQL monitor. • Suggest me solution to track the change in test DB and replicate in Another DB

    - by Pranav
Suggest me solution to track the change in test DB and replicate in Another DB... My Client need a script or any solution, if he has two Database, One Test DB in which he tests his data on test portal and if he find it appropriate he can use those changes to be done in main DB to display on Live site.. Fior this he needs the solution to record or track all updation/deletion/insertion, so that he can do the same in main DB if found appropriate, NOTE: we have only one server, no separate server, hence binary log replication doesnt seems to be working for my case..

  • How to filter a mysql database with user input on a website and then spit the filtered table back to the website? [migrated]

    - by Luke
I've been researching this on google for literally 3 weeks, racking my brain and still not quite finding anything. I can't believe this is so elusive. (I'm a complete beginner so if my terminology sounds stupid then that's why.) I have a database in mysql/phpmyadmin on my web host. I'm trying to create a front end that will allow a user to specify criteria for querying the database in a way that they don't have to know sql, basically just combo boxes and checkboxes on a form. Then have this form 'submit' a query to the database, and show the filtered tables. This is how the SQL looks in Microsoft Access: PARAMETERS TEXTINPUT1 Text ( 255 ), NUMBERINPUT1 IEEEDouble; // pops up a list of parameters for the user to input SELECT DISTINCT Table1.Column1, Table1.Column2, Table1.Column3,* // selects only the unique rows in these three columns FROM Table1 // the table where this query is happening WHERE (((Table1.Column1) Like TEXTINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column2)<=[NUMBERINPUT1] AND ((Table1.Column3)>=[NUMBERINPUT1])); // the criteria for the filter, it's comparing the user input parameters to the data in the rows and only selecting matches according to the equal sign, or greater than + equal sign, or less than + equal sign What I don't get: WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I SUPPOSED TO USE (that isn't totally hard)!? I've tried google fusion tables - doesn't filter right with numerical data or empty cells in rows, can't relate tables I've tried DataTables.net, can't filter right with numerical data and can't use SQL without a bunch of indepth knowledge, not even sure it can if you have that.. I've looked into using jQuery with google spreadsheets, doesn't work at all either I have no idea how I'm supposed to build a front end with my database. Every place that looks promising (like zohocreator) is asking for money, and is far too simplified to be able to do the LIKE criteria or SELECT DISTINCT stuff.

  • How to make Horde connect to mysql with UTF-8 character set?

    - by jkj
    How to tell horde 3.3.11 to use UTF-8 for it's mysql connection? The $conf['sql']['charset'] only tells horde what is expected from the database. Horde uses MDB2 to connect to mysql. Is there way to force MDB2 or mysql character_set_client from php.ini? So far I found two workarounds: Force mysql to ignore character set requested by client [mysqld] skip-character-set-client-handshake=1 default-character-set=utf8 Force mysql to run SET NAMES utf8 on every connection [mysqld] init-connect='SET NAMES utf8' Both have drawbacks on multi user mysql server. The first disables converting character sets alltogether and the second one forces every connection to produce UTF-8. [EDIT] Found the problem. The 'charset' parameter was unset the last minute before sending to SQL backend. This is probably due to mysql not being able to digest utf-8 but utf8. Mysql specific mapping is required to make it work. I just worked around it by translating utf-8 - utf8. Won't work with any other databases with this patch though. --- lib/Horde/Share/sql.php.orig 2011-07-04 17:09:33.349334890 +0300 +++ lib/Horde/Share/sql.php 2011-07-04 17:11:06.238636462 +0300 @@ -753,7 +753,13 @@ /* Connect to the sql server using the supplied parameters. */ require_once 'MDB2.php'; $params = $this->_params; - unset($params['charset']); + + if ($params['charset'] == 'utf-8') { + $params['charset'] = 'utf8'; + } else { + unset($params['charset']); + } + $this->_write_db = &MDB2::factory($params); if (is_a($this->_write_db, 'PEAR_Error')) { Horde::fatal($this->_write_db, __FILE__, __LINE__); @@ -792,7 +798,13 @@ /* Check if we need to set up the read DB connection seperately. */ if (!empty($this->_params['splitread'])) { $params = array_merge($params, $this->_params['read']); - unset($params['charset']); + + if ($params['charset'] == 'utf-8') { + $params['charset'] = 'utf8'; + } else { + unset($params['charset']); + } + $this->_db = &MDB2::singleton($params); if (is_a($this->_db, 'PEAR_Error')) { Horde::fatal($this->_db, __FILE__, __LINE__);

  • MySQL – Grouping by Multiple Columns to Single Column as A String

    - by Pinal Dave
In this post titled SQL SERVER – Grouping by Multiple Columns to Single Column as A String we have seen how to group multiple column data in comma separate values in a single row grouping by another column by using FOR XML clause. In this post we will see how we can produce the same result using the GROUP_CONCAT function in MySQL. Let us create the following table and data. CREATE TABLE TestTable (ID INT, Col VARCHAR(4)); INSERT INTO TestTable (ID, Col) SELECT 1, 'A' UNION ALL SELECT 1, 'B' UNION ALL SELECT 1, 'C' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'A' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'B' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'C' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'D' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'E'; Now to generate csv values of the column col for each ID, use the following code SELECT ID, GROUP_CONCAT(col) AS CSV FROM TestTable GROUP BY ID; The result is ID CSV 1 A,B,C 2 A,B,C,D,E You can also change the delimiters. For example instead of comma, if you want to have a pipe symbol (|), use the following SELECT ID, REPLACE(GROUP_CONCAT(col),',','|') AS CSV FROM TestTable GROUP BY ID; The result is ID CSV 1 A|B|C 2 A|B|C|D|E MySQL makes this very simple with its support of GROUP_CONCAT function. • What is the maximum memory a process (MySQL) can consume on a 32-bit OS?

    - by mmattax
I have MySQL running on a 32-bit RHEL box. The server itself has 4GB total memory with 2GB allocated to MySQL. I would like to know the max amount of memory I can put in the box and how much of that I can allocate to MySQL. I have heard both 2GB and 4GB as the per-process-limit on a 32-bit OS... Ultimately I'd like to know if I can increase the memory for MySQL without upgrading to a 64-bit OS.

  • After installing mysqli phpmyadmin stop loading

    - by phreakbox
On Linux host 3.2.0-30-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 24 16:52:48 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux phpmyadmin won't load after installing mysqlnd. I'm using php5, mysql AND mysqlnd. Maybe mysql and mysqlnd conflicts for phpmyadmin. Problem: If I remove mysqlnd (mysqli support), PHP5 not working with mysqli, PHP5 only works with mysql. (Results for tests: function_exists('mysqli_fetch_all') return FALSE. That's ok. If I installed mysqlnd, php5-mysqlnd, PHP works with mysql + mysqli sumulately. Problems affected after mysqlnd install: After installing mysqli (mysqlnd) support, phpmyadmin won't load. Works PHP5 mysql + mysqlnd. When installing once again phpmyadmin than mysqlnd won't load. PHP PDO and mysql only works.

• Online ALTER TABLE in MySQL 5.6

    - by Marko Mäkelä
This is the low-level view of data dictionary language (DDL) operations in the InnoDB storage engine in MySQL 5.6. John Russell gave a more high-level view in his blog post April 2012 Labs Release – Online DDL Improvements. MySQL before the InnoDB Plugin Traditionally, the MySQL storage engine interface has taken a minimalistic approach to data definition language. The only natively supported operations were CREATE TABLE, DROP TABLE and RENAME TABLE. Consider the following example: CREATE TABLE t(a INT); INSERT INTO t VALUES (1),(2),(3); CREATE INDEX a ON t(a); DROP TABLE t; The CREATE INDEX statement would be executed roughly as follows: CREATE TABLE temp(a INT, INDEX(a)); INSERT INTO temp SELECT * FROM t; RENAME TABLE t TO temp2; RENAME TABLE temp TO t; DROP TABLE temp2; You could imagine that the database could crash when copying all rows from the original table to the new one. For example, it could run out of file space. Then, on restart, InnoDB would roll back the huge INSERT transaction. To fix things a little, a hack was added to ha_innobase::write_row for committing the transaction every 10,000 rows. Still, it was frustrating that even a simple DROP INDEX would make the table unavailable for modifications for a long time. Fast Index Creation in the InnoDB Plugin of MySQL 5.1 MySQL 5.1 introduced a new interface for CREATE INDEX and DROP INDEX. The old table-copying approach can still be forced by SET old_alter_table=0. This interface is used in MySQL 5.5 and in the InnoDB Plugin for MySQL 5.1. Apart from the ability to do a quick DROP INDEX, the main advantage is that InnoDB will execute a merge-sort algorithm before inserting the index records into each index that is being created. This should speed up the insert into the secondary index B-trees and potentially result in a better B-tree fill factor. The 5.1 ALTER TABLE interface was not perfect. For example, DROP FOREIGN KEY still invoked the table copy. Renaming columns could conflict with InnoDB foreign key constraints. Combining ADD KEY and DROP KEY in ALTER TABLE was problematic and not atomic inside the storage engine. The ALTER TABLE interface in MySQL 5.6 The ALTER TABLE storage engine interface was completely rewritten in MySQL 5.6. Instead of introducing a method call for every conceivable operation, MySQL 5.6 introduced a handful of methods, and data structures that keep track of the requested changes. In MySQL 5.6, online ALTER TABLE operation can be requested by specifying LOCK=NONE. Also LOCK=SHARED and LOCK=EXCLUSIVE are available. The old-style table copying can be requested by ALGORITHM=COPY. That one will require at least LOCK=SHARED. From the InnoDB point of view, anything that is possible with LOCK=EXCLUSIVE is also possible with LOCK=SHARED. Most ALGORITHM=INPLACE operations inside InnoDB can be executed online (LOCK=NONE). InnoDB will always require an exclusive table lock in two phases of the operation. The execution phases are tied to a number of methods: handler::check_if_supported_inplace_alter Checks if the storage engine can perform all requested operations, and if so, what kind of locking is needed. handler::prepare_inplace_alter_table InnoDB uses this method to set up the data dictionary cache for upcoming CREATE INDEX operation. We need stubs for the new indexes, so that we can keep track of changes to the table during online index creation. Also, crash recovery would drop any indexes that were incomplete at the time of the crash. handler::inplace_alter_table In InnoDB, this method is used for creating secondary indexes or for rebuilding the table. This is the ‘main’ phase that can be executed online (with concurrent writes to the table). handler::commit_inplace_alter_table This is where the operation is committed or rolled back. Here, InnoDB would drop any indexes, rename any columns, drop or add foreign keys, and finalize a table rebuild or index creation. It would also discard any logs that were set up for online index creation or table rebuild. The prepare and commit phases require an exclusive lock, blocking all access to the table. If MySQL times out while upgrading the table meta-data lock for the commit phase, it will roll back the ALTER TABLE operation. In MySQL 5.6, data definition language operations are still not fully atomic, because the data dictionary is split. Part of it is inside InnoDB data dictionary tables. Part of the information is only available in the *.frm file, which is not covered by any crash recovery log. But, there is a single commit phase inside the storage engine. Online Secondary Index Creation It may occur that an index needs to be created on a new column to speed up queries. But, it may be unacceptable to block modifications on the table while creating the index. It turns out that it is conceptually not so hard to support online index creation. All we need is some more execution phases: Set up a stub for the index, for logging changes. Scan the table for index records. Sort the index records. Bulk load the index records. Apply the logged changes. Replace the stub with the actual index. Threads that modify the table will log the operations to the logs of each index that is being created. Errors, such as log overflow or uniqueness violations, will only be flagged by the ALTER TABLE thread. The log is conceptually similar to the InnoDB change buffer. The bulk load of index records will bypass record locking. We still generate redo log for writing the index pages. It would suffice to log page allocations only, and to flush the index pages from the buffer pool to the file system upon completion. Native ALTER TABLE Starting with MySQL 5.6, InnoDB supports most ALTER TABLE operations natively. The notable exceptions are changes to the column type, ADD FOREIGN KEY except when foreign_key_checks=0, and changes to tables that contain FULLTEXT indexes. The keyword ALGORITHM=INPLACE is somewhat misleading, because certain operations cannot be performed in-place. For example, changing the ROW_FORMAT of a table requires a rebuild. Online operation (LOCK=NONE) is not allowed in the following cases: when adding an AUTO_INCREMENT column, when the table contains FULLTEXT indexes or a hidden FTS_DOC_ID column, or when there are FOREIGN KEY constraints referring to the table, with ON…CASCADE or ON…SET NULL option. The FOREIGN KEY limitations are needed, because MySQL does not acquire meta-data locks on the child or parent tables when executing SQL statements. Theoretically, InnoDB could support operations like ADD COLUMN and DROP COLUMN in-place, by lazily converting the table to a newer format. This would require that the data dictionary keep multiple versions of the table definition. For simplicity, we will copy the entire table, even for DROP COLUMN. The bulk copying of the table will bypass record locking and undo logging. For facilitating online operation, a temporary log will be associated with the clustered index of table. Threads that modify the table will also write the changes to the log. When altering the table, we skip all records that have been marked for deletion. In this way, we can simply discard any undo log records that were not yet purged from the original table. Off-page columns, or BLOBs, are an important consideration. We suspend the purge of delete-marked records if it would free any off-page columns from the old table. This is because the BLOBs can be needed when applying changes from the log. We have special logging for handling the ROLLBACK of an INSERT that inserted new off-page columns. This is because the columns will be freed at rollback.

  • best way to import 500MB csv file into mysql database?

    - by mars
I have a 500MB csv file that needs to be imported into my mysql database. I've made a php file where i can upload the csv file and it analyses the fields n stuff and does the actual importing. but it can only handle small fiels max 5mb. so that's a 100 files and actually pretty slow(uploading) is there another way? I have to repeat this process every month because the data in the file changes every month it's about 12 000 000 lines :D

Thanks... create table tv (mydate, value) as select to_date('20/03/2010 00','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),98 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 01','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),124 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 02','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),140 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 03','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),138 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 04','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),416 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 05','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),196 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 06','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),246 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 07','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),176 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 08','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),124 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 09','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),128 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 10','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),32010 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 11','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),384 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 12','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),368 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 13','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),392 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 14','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),374 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 15','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),350 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 16','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),248 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 17','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),396 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 18','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),388 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 19','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),360 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 20','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),194 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 21','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),234 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 22','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),328 from dual union all select to_date('20/03/2010 23','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),216 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 00','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),224 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 01','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),292 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 02','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),264 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 03','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),132 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 04','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),142 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 05','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),328 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 06','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),184 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 07','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),240 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 08','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),224 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 09','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),496 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 10','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),370 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 11','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),352 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 12','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),438 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 13','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),446 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 14','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),426 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 15','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),546 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 16','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),546 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 17','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),684 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 18','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),568 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 19','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),504 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 20','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),392 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 21','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),256 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 22','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),236 from dual union all select to_date('21/03/10 23','dd/mm/yyyy HH24'),168 from dual

  • Grabbing the right record in a drop down from mysql

    - by 86Stang
    I'm using a form where the user can edit an entry. Everything is populating and all is well with the exception that I can't get the drop down to show the project that they've already assigned the image to. $project_qry = "SELECT * from projects ORDER BY title ASC"; $project_res = mysql_query($project_qry); $project_drop = "<select name=\"project_id\">\n"; while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($project_res)) { if ($project_id == $row[title]) { $project_drop .= "<option value=\"$row[id]\" selected>$row[title]</option>\n"; } else { $project_drop .= "<option value=\"$row[id]\">$row[title]</option>\n"; } } $project_drop .= "</select>\n"; I'm sure it's something devilishly simple but I'm stumped.

  • HTML Select and Text Input

    - by Vijay Dev
We have all seen countless instances of forms with a select drop down having one of it's options as "Other" and on choosing that option, we get to see a input text box (which was hidden all along) asking us to type in our input. Is there a better way to implement this? Are there plugins out there which will let me do this better? Or are standard HTML elements suffice (some setting to a , may be) ?
