• Should subcontractors be paid for a lunch hour and breaks? [closed]

  I have never charged my clients for lunch-time or breaks, and I have never paid a subcontractor for it before either (at least not to my knowledge). My view has always been that subcontracting has many positives (higher pay, autonomy, etc.) and many negatives (no benefits, etc.) and one of the negatives is you get paid for productive time, which does not include lunch or breaks. But I still wonder, should subcontractors be paid like employees, for lunch breaks, coffee breaks etc.?

  I am writing a rogue-like 'zombie' management game. The game map will be similar to Prison Architect. A top-down 50 X 50 grid. I want to implemented a day night cycle and during the night I would like the player to be able to position lights. I would like to be able to lighten and dark to whole map to display the day and night cycle. Then lights would be a circle of light blocked by game entities such as walls, players, trees etc. How would I achieve and what is the standard way of achieving this?

• WPF: TreeViewItem bound to an ICommand

  Hi All, I am busy creating my first MVVM application in WPF. Basically the problem I am having is that I have a TreeView (System.Windows.Controls.TreeView) which I have placed on my WPF Window, I have decide that I will bind to a ReadOnlyCollection of CommandViewModel items, and these items consist of a DisplayString, Tag and a RelayCommand. Now in the XAML, I have my TreeView and I have successfully bound my ReadOnlyCollection to this. I can view this and everything looks fine in the UI. The issue now is that I need to bind the RelayCommand to the Command of the TreeViewItem, however from what I can see the TreeViewItem doesn't have a Command. Does this force me to do it in the IsSelected property or even in the Code behind TreeView_SelectedItemChanged method or is there a way to do this magically in WPF? • "Unrecognized configuration section connectionStrings" in app.exe.config

  Hi On a Terminal Server install of my WinForms app, one of my clients gets the following exception on startup: "Unrecognized configuration section connectionStrings" This is occurring in myapp.exe.config but I can't figure out why. Runs perfectly everywhere else, only difference between this install and any other is the connection string. I've searched around, but can only find this issue relating to ASP.NET apps and issues in web.config. Any ideas what could be broken in the config of this WinForms app though? Is it indicating a problem further up in machine.config? • Running multiple applications in STM32 flash

  Hey! I would like to have two applications in my STM32 flash, one is basically a boot and the other the 'main' application. I have figured out how to load each of them into different areas of flash, and after taking a memory dump everything looks like it is in the right place. So when I do a reset it loads the boot, all the boot does at the moment is jump to the application. Debugging the boot, this all appears to work correctly. However the problems arrives after i've made the jump to the application, it just executes one instruction (assembly) and then jumps back to the boot. It should stay in the application indefinitely. My question is then, where should I 'jump' to in the app? It seems that there are a few potential spots, such as the interrupt vectors, the reset handler, the main function of the app. Actually I've tried all of those with no success. Hopefully that makes sense, i'll update the question if not. thanks for your help! Richard Updates: I had a play around in the debugger and manually changed the program counter to the main of the application, and well that worked a charm, so it makes me think there is something wrong with my jump, why doesn't the program counter keep going after the jump? Actually it seems to be the PSR, the 'T' gets reset on the jump, if I set that again after the jump it continues on with the app as I desire Ok found a solution, seems that you need to have the PC LSB set to 1 when you do a branch or it falls into the 'ARM' mode (32 bit instruction instead of 16 bit instructions like in the 'thumb' mode. Quite an obscure little problem, thanks for letting me share it with you!

  fHi, I need to build an site with some portal like functionality where an param in the request will indentify the portal. like so http:/domain/controller/action/portal Now my problem is if an portal doesn't exists there must be an redirect to an other site/page and an user can login in to one portal but if the user comes to an other portal the user must be redirected back to the login page for that portal. I have something working now, but i feel like there must be an central place in the pipeline to handle this. My current solution uses an custom action filter which checks the portal param and sees if the portal exists and checks if the user logged on in that portal (the portal the user logged on for is in the authentication cookie). I make my own IIndentiy and IPrincipal in the application_postauthentication event. I have 2 problems with my current approach: 1: It's not really enforced, i have to add the attributes to all controllers and/or actions. 2: The isauthenticated on an user isn't really working, i would like that to work. But for that i need to have access to the params of the route when i create my IPrincipal/IIndenty and i can't seem to find an correct place to do that.   Hi, I have this countdown script wrapped as an object located in a separate file Then when I want to setup a counter, the timeout function in the countdown class can not find the object again that I have setup within the document ready. I sort of get that everything that is setup in the document ready is convined to that scope, however it is possible to call functions within other document ready´s. Does anyone has a solution on how I could setup multiple counters slash objects. • C1083 : Permission denied on .sbr files

  Hello, I am using Visual Studio 2005 (with SP1) and I am getting weird errors concerning .sbr files. These files, as I read on MSDN, are intermediate files for BSCMAKE to generate a .bsc file. The errors I get are, for example (on different builds) : 11string.cpp : fatal error C1083: Impossible d'ouvrir le fichier généré(e) par le compilateur : '.\debug\String.sbr' : Permission denied 58type.cpp : fatal error C1083: Impossible d'ouvrir le fichier généré(e) par le compilateur : '.\Debug/Type.sbr' : Permission denied Translation : cannot open compiler intermediate file It seems to be consistent (I have at least 5 or 6 examples like this) with a .cpp file being compiled twice in the same project, respectively : 11String.cpp *some warnings, 2 lines* 11String.cpp 58Type.cpp *some warnings and other files compiled, a lot of lines* 58Type.cpp I already checked the .vcproj files for duplicate entries and it does not seem to be the problem. I would appreciate any help regarding this issue. Deactivating the build of .bsc files seems to be a workaround but maybe someone has better information than this. Thanks.

• How can I accelerate the generation of the an MD5 Checksum within vb.net?

  I'm working with some very large files residing on P2 (Panasonic) cards. Part of the process we employ is to first generate a checksum of the file we are going to copy, then copy the file, then run a checksum on the file to confirm that it copied OK. The problem is, is that files are large (70 GB+) and take a long time to complete. It's an issue since we will eventually be dealing with thousands of these files. I would like to find a faster way to generate the checksum other than using the System.Security.Cryptography.MD5CryptoServiceProvider I don't care if this means using a specialized hardware card, provided it works and is not to ungodly expensive. I would prefer to have a method of encoding that provided some feedback as to how far the process has gone along so I can display it like I do now. The application is written in vb.net. I would prefer to be able to use it as component, library, reference within my application, but I'm willing to call an outside application if there is enough improvement in the speed of generating the checksum. • Java split is eating my characters.

  Hi, I have a string like this String str = "la$le\$li$lo". I want to split it to get the following output "la","le\$li","lo". The \$ is a $ escaped so it should be left in the output. But when I do str.split("[^\\\\]\\$") y get "l","le\$l","lo". From what I get my regex is matching a$ and i$ and removing then. Any idea of how to get my characters back? Thanks

• Jetty - 401 Unauthorized when using basic authentication

  I am running SOLR on jetty in Ubuntu (a bitnami VM, if that helps) and am trying to lock down access to both the admin pages and the update/delete/etc. pages using basic authentication. When I attempt to connect to the admin console via a web browser I am prompted for a user name and password, but the username and password I use simply does not work. For test purposes I am using foo:bar as the credentials, but I receive a '401 Unauthorized' response. I see the following in my request log. 127.0.0.1 - - [10/Nov/2013:05:35:46 +0000] "GET /solr/ HTTP/1.1" 401 1376 Am I doing something wrong and/or is there anything obviously incorrect with the below configuration?   I'm about to format a machine and I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to copy an Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (9.2.0) license so I can reload the software. I have several re-install disks that were sent as part of Dell's packaging but have no idea how to tie the disc to the license so I was hoping to just be able to copy a specific file or something and reload using a random Acrobat 9 Standard disc. • File transfer from MP3 player to computer

  I own an old 20GB Creative Zen jukebox (all external screws are gone on it LOL) and I would like to transfer files back to my PC to get them on my new iPod. Problem is, no matter what software I use (WinAMP, Creative Media Source or Windows Media Player), it just stops transferring files on my HD with an error message that says there is no more space on the destination folder. Problem is, there is still 320GB free. I tried lot of things like installing newer driver, latest Zen plug-in for Media Source, latest WinAMP version. Sometimes, it just works and then again, it stops working and I get this non-sense error. Restarting my PC sometime solves the issue by giving me enough time to transfer 10 or 15 more files and then I get the error again and again. Yesterday though I managed to transfer up to 3GB of MP3s on my computer before getting the error. Seems like I'm having a driver issue or a weird behavior from the player and/or the software I'm using. 3 different software can't reproduce the exact same issue by themselves so it must be something related to the driver. I can't find any post of any sort concerning such issue on old forums. Any idea?

• How well will ntpd work when the latency is highly variable?

  I have an application where we are using some non-standard networking equipment (cannot be changed) that goes into a dormant state between traffic bursts. The network latency is very high for the first packet since it's essentially waking the system, waiting for it to reconnect, and then making the first round-trip. Subsequent messages (provided they are within the next minute or so) are much faster, but still highly-latent. A typical set of pings will look like 2500ms, 900ms, 880ms, 885ms, 900ms, 890ms, etc. Given that NTP uses several round trips before computing the offset, how well can I expect ntpd to work over this kind of link? Will the initially slow first round trip be ignored based on the much different (and faster) following messages to/from the ntp server? Thanks and Regards.

• SQL Server Express 2005 cannot connect

  hi all, I have a SQL Server Express 2005 install on a godaddy virtual terminal which currently is only connected to(locally with mgt studio) every few days or so. Every time i try to connect I get a cannot connect to SQL Server error and after a restart it I can connect just fine locally. I was wondering if there is a timeout setting or something that I am missing that I need to change so that if it is not connected to for a while it does not required a restart? any ideas? thanks!
