  • Google Chrome (not chromium) is crashing XFCE on startup. Where can I find some detailed logs of the issue?

    I'm using xubuntu 12.10 and every time I open Chrome, the desktop enviro crashes then automatically restarts, prompting me to log in again. This is the latest x86 .deb downloaded from Chrome's website. I've tried both installing the .deb using the software package manager and using sudo dpkg -i, same issue for both, except that the package manager puts out an alert that says "This package is of bad quality", but doing a quick google search reveals that particular message is a bug in Chrome and it's safe to ignore.

    I've got a PFSense firewall/gateway on our network. Everything works great except for the fact that I cannot access one specific website. Pfsense is running the following packages Country Block LightSquid nmap notes squid squidGuard Strikeback I can access every single website I've ever tried aside from one that we need for business use (http://bridalnetwork.ca) here's the traceroute frodo:~ chase$ traceroute bridalnetwork.ca traceroute to bridalnetwork.ca (192.197.103.73), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 rohan (192.168.5.1) 6.618 ms 1.662 ms 9.207 ms 2 * * * 3 * * rohan (192.168.5.1) 7.225 ms !H 4 rohan (192.168.5.1) 5.314 ms !H 5.701 ms !H 7.573 ms !H frodo:~ chase$ How can I figure out what the reason behind the blockage is? note: this has been tested on every computer on the network with the same results. ps: the pfsense box is 'rohan' (192.168.5.1) Here's what I get with Squid enabled and here's what I get with Squid disabled

  • Connecting to a WSE 3.0 Web Service From a WCF Client

    I'm having difficulty connecting to a 3rd party WSE 3.0 web service from a WCF client. I have implemented the custom binding class as indicated in this KB article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms734745.aspx The problem seems to have to do with the security assertion used by the web service - UsernameOverTransport. When I attempt to call a method, I get the following exception: System.InvalidOperationException: The 'WseHttpBinding'.'[namespace]' binding for the 'MyWebServiceSoap'.'[namespace]' contract is configured with an authentication mode that requires transport level integrity and confidentiality. However the transport cannot provide integrity and confidentiality.. It is expecting a username, password, and CN number. In the example code supplied to us by the vendor, these credentials are bundled in a Microsoft.Web.Services3.Security.Tokens.UsernameToken. Here's the example supplied by the vendor: MyWebServiceWse proxy = new MyWebServiceWse(); UsernameToken token = new UsernameToken("Username", "password", PasswordOption.SendPlainText); token.Id = "<supplied CN Number>"; proxy.SetClientCredential(token); proxy.SetPolicy(new Policy(new UsernameOverTransportAssertion(), new RequireActionHeaderAssertion())); MyObject mo = proxy.MyMethod(); This works fine from a 2.0 app w/ WSE 3.0 installed.     Hi, I am trying to access a external ftp server through my company's FTP proxy from a bash prompt and I am getting the below issue after I enter the user name 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection Login failed. No control connection for command: Permission denied The proxy works fine for all other sites but I am unable to access a site which has been recently setup using this proxy. Can it be an issue at the site's end like allowing our proxy ip address thru their firewall to access their server? Thanks

  • High CPU from httpd process

    I am currently getting high CPU on a server that is just running a couple of sites with very low traffic. One of the sites is in still development going live soon. However, this site is very very slow...When browsing through its pages I can see that the CPU goes from 30% to 100% for httpd (see top output below). I have tuned httpd & MySQL, Apache Solr, Tomcat for high performance, and I am using APC. Not sure what to do from here or how to find the culprit as I have a bunch of messages on the httpd log and have been chasing dead ends for some time...any help is greatly appreciated.   • nginx: problem configuring a proxy_pass

    I'm converting a web app from apache to nginx. In apache's httpd.conf I have: ProxyPass /proxy/ http:// ProxyPassReverse /proxy/ http:// The idea is the client send this url: http://web-server-domain/proxy/login-server-addr/loginUrl.php?user=xxx&pass=yyy and the web server calls: http://login-server-addr/loginUrl.php?user=xxx&pass=yyy My nginx.conf is attached below and it is not working. At the moment it looks like it is calling the server, but returning an application error. This seems promising but any attempt to debug this failed! I can't trace any of the calls as nginx refuses to place them in the error file. Also, placing echo statement on the login server did not help either which is weird. The nginx documentation isn't very helpful about this. Any suggestion on how to configure a proxy_pass?   • How have I locked me out from my Ubuntu VPS?

    I have a Ubuntu Server as VPS (OpenVZ), and yesterday I installed php-fpm, but I guess something went wrong with the installation. Because since then I cannot log in to my server over SSH with PuTTY or using WinSCP. The message I get when connecting is Network error: Connection timed out. Immediately after the installation I was not able to use emacs either, I had to re-install it with apt-get install emacs. I have tried with clearing the firewall and rebooting the server from my web-based "control panel", but it doesn't help. The commands I used for installation of the PHP-fpm was from Installing PHP 5.3, Nginx And PHP-fpm On Ubuntu/Debian.     In the log file of apache (access.log) I find log entries like the following: 10.20.30.40 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:12:44 +0200] "GET /index.php HTTP/1.1" 404 505 "-" "Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.01" Whose meaning is clear: The client with IP 10.20.30.40 applied a GET HTTP method on /index.php (that is to say http://mysite.org/index.php) receiving a status code 404 using Opera as client/browser. What I don't understand is entries like the following: 174.34.231.19 - - [18/Mar/2011:02:24:56 +0200] "GET http://www.siasatema.com HTTP/1.1" 200 469 "-" "Python-urllib/2.4" So here what I see is that someone (client with IP 174.34.231.19) accessed http://www.siasatema.com and got a 200 HTTP status code(?). It doesn't make sense to me... the only interpretation I can think of is that my apache server acts like proxy! Update 1: I disabled mod_proxy to make sure that I don't have an open proxy: # a2dismod proxy Where from I got the message: Module proxy already disabled I made sure that there is no file proxy.conf under $APACHE/mods-enabled. Finally, I set on my browser (Mozzila) my IP as a proxy and tried to access http://google.com. I was not redirected to google.com but instead my web page appeared. The same happened with trying to access http://a.b (!). So my server does not really work as a proxy since it does not forward the requests... But I think it would be better if somehow I could configure it to return a status code 403.   • Facebook proxy email not arriving -- do I need permissions?

    I'm building a website that allows user to connect using Facebook Connect. So far I'm able to log the user in and fetch data about them (name, email, pic, etc.). If I fetch the email (using Users.getInfo) I get a proxied email ([email protected]), which is absolutely great. Problem is, that email doesn't work. I've tried sending an email to it and I never received it. There are two reasons I see that could cause this: I don't have enough permissions. Ok, I can understand that, but if I don't have enough permissions then why are they returning an email at all? The email has to be somehow sent from the application itself (I've tried sending it from my Gmail account) -- but how would Facebook know that the email is coming from the application? So which is it? Or is it something else?

  • Go for Zend framework or Django for a modular web application?

    I am using both Zend framework and Django, and they both have they strengths and weakness, but they are both good framworks in their own way. I do want to create a highly modular web application, like this example: modules: Admin cms articles sections ... ... ... I also want all modules to be self contained with all confid and template files. I have been looking into a way to solve this is zend the last days, but adding one omer level to the module setup doesn't feel right. I am sure this could be done, but should I? I have also included Doctrine to my zend application that could give me even more problems in my module setup! When we are talking about Django this is easy to implement (Easy as in concept, not in implementation time or whatever) and a great way to create web apps. But one of the downsides of Django is the web hosing part. There are some web hosts offering Django support, but not that many.. So then I guess the question is what have the most value; rapid modular development versus hosting options! Well, comments are welcome! Thanks

My question is "How can I paste an image from the clipboard into a field (what field is not that big issue as long as it works)", and then sent to the server. Jira has this functionality, so it should be possible! Any ideas on how to do this? Just to explain the complete workflow; I would like to have a plave to multi upload images, where the paste from clipboard also is an option.     I want to use HideMyAss VPN (hidemyass.com) on Ubuntu Linux to route only HTTP (ports 80 & 443) traffic to the HideMyAss VPN server, and leave all the other traffic (MySQL, SSH, etc.) alone. I'm running Ubuntu on AWS EC2 instances. The problem is that when I try and run the default HMA script, I suddenly can't SSH into the Ubuntu instance anymore and have to reboot it from the AWS console. I suspect the Ubuntu instance will also have trouble connecting to the RDS MySQL database, but haven't confirmed it.     I have a table with a button. When the button is clicked I call Modalbox.show (http://okonet.ru/projects/modalbox/) that displays a little form with another button. When the user clicks this second button, a listener is attached to an iframe in the form and the form is submitted to the server. The server does something then it should return back to the form and execute the listener function. This works fine on IE but not in Firefox (on Firefox it never comes back).   • RabbitMQ as a proxy between a data store and a producer ?

    I have some code that produces lots of data that should be stored in the database. The problem is that the database can't keep with the data that it gets produced. So I am wondering whether some kind of queuing mechanism would help in this situation - I am thinking in particular at RabiitMQ and whether is feasible to have the data stored in its queues until some consumer gets the data out of it and pushes it to the database. Also, I am not particular interested whether that data made it to the database or not because pretty soon, the same data will be updated.
