• Domino 8.5.3: Attaching an Object Residing on Server (Lotusscript preferred)

  Not sure if this question is more appropriate for ServerFault or StackOverflow, sorry if it should belong elsewhere! I am working on an application and one of the function is to automatically send an email with an attachment. I can code the application to attach the object when it resides on local or on a mapped drive. Newbie Question: Is there a way to have the object reside on the Domino server, and still be able to point to it and have the application automatically attach and send? Is there any method that allows me to do this? Users have no direct access to the server/filesystem, so mapped drive of the Domino server is out of the question. Hope someone can shed some light on this question. Thanks!

• How to connect 2 virtual hosts running on the same machine?

  I have 2 virtual hosts running on my Windows XP laptop. One is Ubuntu running inside vmware player. The other is MS virtual PC (so I can test with IE6 ). The Ubuntu virtual host is running my web application with apache. I can point my browser on my laptop at the Ubuntu IP and view my web app. I read this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/197792/how-to-connect-to-host-machine-from-within-virtual-pc-image and was able to get my Virtual PC to ping my physical machine using the loopback adapter. But I'm stuck on getting my Virtual PC to see my web application running in the Ubuntu vmware player host. I appreciate any suggestions.

  I have a free dyndns domain mk12.gotdns.com How can I set up a cname for www.mk12.gotdns.com to point to mk12.gotdns.com? And how can I force the www one, so that if you navigate to mk12.gotdns.com, it will go to the www one? Note: I don't mean html redirecting, but I think you can do it with url rewriting somehow, something like described here. I've seen many tutorials, but they just vaguely say that you have to enter a cname record, I have no clue what file I need to put it in. • Nginx (for static files) and Apache (for dynamic content)?

  So, my entire application runs on apache just fine. However, I want to test how much the requests per second increases if I put all static files through nginx instead. I found this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/869001/how-to-serve-all-existing-static-files-directly-with-nginx-but-proxy-to-apache-t But I have a couple problems. I'm completely new to nginx, so I'm not sure where to put the configuration. (The file is at /etc/nginx/nginx.conf, but I don't know if I just add the code to the bottom or what?) Also, how can I have both servers running at the same time? Is it because they both listen on port 80? Right now I have to stop one to start the other, and that's as far as I've gotten. • Why are PNG-8 files mangled when opened in Photoshop?

  Why are some 32 bit PNGs opened in Photoshop with Indexed Colors and no transparency? For instance, I grabbed a png icon file of the Stack Overflow logo at: http://blog.stackoverflow.com/wp-content/uploads/icon-so.png When opening it in Photoshop CS3, it apparently treats it as indexed color and gets rid of the alpha channel. The image on the right is a screen grab of the icon. Changing the Image mode in Photoshop to RGB doesn't change the image at all. I've tried this with a few other PNGs and it seems hit or miss. When viewed in other programs, it displays fine. left:png opened in Photoshop, right:screen grab of png from browser What gives?, does Photoshop not interpret the PNG file format correctly?

• How to specify or add directory to Python.h search path during setup.py build/install

  I'm running Linux, and have downloaded a python module I must install without access to any but my particular /home/user directory (I have no root privileges nor the option to pursue them). This of course requires the Python source. This I've downloaded and have laying around in said user directory. While asking the admin to copy the proper files into /usr/include/python2.7 is the easiest way to go about this, I am hoping for a more general and portable solution to this kind of problem. Changing only data in the module source (MANIFEST.in, README.txt, setup.py, etc.), how might I add an arbitrary directory to the search path for Python.h and friends? (Without a solution, "python setup.py build" will continue returning with the "Python.h: No such file or directory" error) Thank you very much. (Additionally, is it acceptable to post this both here and on StackOverflow?)

• Does Basic User Authentication require 2-Phase communiation?

  My Application connects to the Internet to HTTP Services using boost::asio. Recently we added support for HTTP Proxys and Basic User Authentication. We implemented Basic User Authentication by just sending Authentication parameters with every HTTP call if a user configured a proxy in our program. Parameters are sent as described here: Authorization: Basic <base64 Encoded username:password> This works at least for one user and his proxy server. Other users report that their Proxy server replys with 407 Proxy Authentication Required My guess is that some proxy servers accept 1 one phase authentication and that others don't. I do not find any information that a 2 Phase communication is requested where the access always is denied for the first call by returning 407 and that only a second call is accepted. Our program yet does not retry the call if a 407 has been returned. Do we have to add this? I asked this question before on stackoverflow but did not get a sufficient answer.

  Good afternoon, I'm sorry that this isn't a programming question specifically, but stackoverflow has been great at answering questions in the past, so I thought I'd give it a shot. One of our Linux users attempted to install Cygwin on our Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller. Now it is no longer possible to browse the domain and see all of the computers. For example, \\my_domain_name will just bring up a username/password dialog box (that will not accept any username or password, even the domain administrator) and no computers will ever be listed. However, I can still connect to computers based on their name or IP address. So \\eridanus or \\192.168.1.85 still work to connect to the shared directories of computers on our network. Does anyone know where I can find these settings? and how I can fix this problem? Thanks, Giawa

• After a period of time, nslookup still works, but pinging, and an auto-refeshed website, fails.

  Contrary to this SO question this is for a dotted name (gw.localnet.au), and it doesn't happen straight away. Only after some period of time (quite a long time, possibly days). In fact this is for my ADSL router and its internal IP address which I have named within the router itself and in my Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller DNS Service. Specifically, localnet.au is a Active-Directory-backed primary domain. In fact, an ipconfig /flushdns may fix the problem, but only after a while (about the time it took me to type in this question :-) ). That doesn't explain the root cause though...   Is there something where I can see and control single(!) windows of PC1 on PC2 remotely. Basically like it is possible with X-Windows. I am not talking / asking about A software which displays the whole desktop remotely (like VNC, Windows RDP). A X-windows server for windows, to connect to Linux. The answer here ( Windows Remote Desktop Connection for just a single window (or a single program) ) requires Windows Server 2008. I need to run this on two Windows 7 machines.   I have to maintain a system (debian) on which several users are allowed to install programs - so I would like to log, for example, if anyone executes "apt-get install" or "apt-get purge", so I can keep track of manually installed packages.. • How do I populate multiple records of data into a PDF form like a mail-merge?

  I have Acrobat Pro, and I have a PDF with a form on it. Assuming the fields in the form correspond to a data source (like rows in an RDBMS table or xml file), I want to then print multiple copies of the PDF file, with each copy having the values of a different row in the data source. It is preferable to directly interface with an actual database, rather than having to save an XML file every time I do this. If this involves programming that's cool too, I only posted here because the question didn't seem appropriate for StackOverflow. Thanks!

• How are suspected DoS attacks handled by webservers?

  I rent a server somewhere out in Canada or so that I'm using to host a website of mine. That website has close to 400,000 pages that I wanted to index today. For that, I wrote a crawler a while back (see JCrawler on Stackoverflow.com). Now, I'm greedy and didn't want it to take too long so I ran multiple threads resulting in some 60+ requests per second from my IP. A couple minutes later, my server locked me out. I can still FTP into it, but I can't HTTP it. As server administrator or user, do you have any idea how servers usually handle these situations? Is it common to place a permanent or temporary ban on the IP or what is typically done? Naturally, I'll re-run my software with fewer requests once I'm back on.

• How Do I Delete Misnamed Tagged Directory Already Committed?

  I'm new to using the SVN system and having hard time figuring out how to delete files uploaded mistakenly. What I've done: Committed the trunk folder with right clicking on "SVN Commit" Right clicked and choose "TortoiseSVN" - "Branch/Tag" In the section of "To path:" in the "Branch/Tag - Tortoise" window, I typed /*mydirectory*/tags/*1.0.11* where 1.0.11 was supposed to be 1.0.1.1 After realizing 1.0.11 was a mistake, to remove the directory, I right clicked on the 1.0.11 folder in Windows and selected "TortoiseSVN" - "Delete" It deleted the folder in Windows but does not delete the folder in the remote server. According to this page,http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2092344/how-do-i-delete-a-wrongly-tagged-directory-in-svn, a command can be used and I tried to type svn in the command prompt window but it gives svn is not recognized as an internal or external command. This should be a very basic question but I could not find relevant pages. Some pages suggest to use revert but I've already committed 1.0.1.1 so I'm afraid doing revert causes the newest one to be deleted. Thanks for your information.

I am trying to publish the files with rsync and then set the permissions using sudo chown -R www-data doc sudo chgrp -R www-data doc but I can't even rsync because of the permission denied. It is surrounded by two other graphs which are parallel but offset by the same factor in both the positive and negative direction - something like this: ---------------- (positively offset parallel graph) ---------------- (main graph) ---------------- (negatively offset parallel graph) Now I want to color the space between the main graph and the offset ones, but I just can't seem to find a way! Is it maybe possible with VBA? Or is there maybe a solution for Excel 2007?

  I have purchased an i7 based PC pre-installed with 64 bit windows 7 (home premium). Unfortunately some third party 32 bit software that I need to use is not working properly (see stackoverflow.com for details). I am now torn between the plan of installing windows XP 32 bit or making it dual boot. Which option do you think will give me the least problems? And if the answer is dual boot, then can you point me to a good guide for how to do it, preferably a guide specifically for my two OS's created in this order (i.e. 7x64 first). EDIT: the performance of my 32bit programs is critical so am concerned about any kind of 32bit XP "emulation".

  What are the disadvantages of using a swap file/partition on an SSD, even when swappiness is set to 0 I'm particularly interested in the /proc/sys/vm/swappiness=0 case. How much writes are still done, in practice, to that swap file, and does it have a negative impact to the SSD or any other disadvantage? Or would it nearly compare to not having a swap file? I am pretty aware of what swappiness=0 means, just not of what it amounts to in practice. • PostgreSQL, update existing rows with pg_restore

  Hello. I need to sync two PostgreSQL databases (some tables from development db to production db) sometimes. So I came up with this script: [...] pg_dump -a -F tar -t table1 -t table2 -U user1 dbname1 | \ pg_restore -a -U user2 -d dbname2 [...] The problem is that this works just for newly added rows. When I edit non-PK column I get constraint error and row isn't updated. For each dumped row I need to check if it exists in destination database (by PK) and if so delete it before INSERT/COPY. • Mitigating the 'firesheep' attack at the network layer?

  What are the sysadmin's thoughts on mitigating the 'firesheep' attack for servers they manage? Firesheep is a new firefox extension that allows anyone who installs it to sidejack session it can discover. It does it's discovery by sniffing packets on the network and looking for session cookies from known sites. It is relatively easy to write plugins for the extension to listen for cookies from additional sites. From a systems/network perspective, we've discussed the possibility of encrypting the whole site, but this introduces additional load on servers and screws with site-indexing, assets and general performance. One option we've investigated is to use our firewalls to do SSL Offload, but as I mentioned earlier, this would require all of the site to be encrypted. What's the general thoughts on protecting against this attack vector? I've asked a similar question on StackOverflow, however, it would be interesting to see what the systems engineers thought.

• bottle.py on EC2 micro instance causes 2 order of magnitude slowdown

  Cross-posted from StackOverflow: I wrote a little toy script to solve this type of game, and put it on my new micro EC2 instance. It works perfectly, but while it takes around 0.5 seconds to run a local version, and takes under 0.5 seconds to run both the local and the bottle.py version on my home computer, running the bottle.py version on the EC2 instance takes over 2 minutes. Python has the cpu pegged at 99% the entire time. Only 7.4% memory usage, consistently, and no swapping. The only guess I have is initialization time for bottle.py on EC2, but if it were that, why would it be ~200x faster on my own computer with bottle.py?

I was wondering which file I should place this bash command in so it will be run on startup. # Start the MongoDB server /Applications/MongoDB/bin/mongod --dbpath /usr/local/mongo/data --fork --logpath /usr/local/mongo/log I have been scouring the net and think it is between ~/.bashrc, ~/profile, /etc/bashrc, /etc/profile or ~/.bash_profile. Although I have tried these and they seem to run on terminal startup not Mac startup. Am I missing a file here? Thanks for any help you can give.

• Error connecting to the application.

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?
