  • DRY Authenticated Tasks in Cocoa (with distributed objects)

    I'm kind of surprise/infuriated that the only way for me to run an authenticated task, like perhaps sudo gem install shi*t, is to make a tool with pre-written code. I'm writing a MacRuby application, which doesn't seem to expose the KAuthorization* constants/methods. So.. I learned Cocoa and Objective-C. My application creates a object, serves it and calls the a tool that elevates itself and then performs a selector on a distributed object (in the tool's thread). I hoped that the distributed object's methods would evaluated inside the tool, so I could use delegation to create "privileged" tasks. If this won't work, don't try to save it, I just want a DRY/cocoa solution. AuthHelper.m //AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges of this. "sudo gem update --system" for one. I'm guessing the proxy object is performing the selector in it's own thread, but I want the current (privileged thread) to do it so I can use sudo. Can I force the distributed object to evaluate the selector on the tool's thread? How else can I accomplish this dryly/cocoaly?

  • How to fix this window.open memory leak?

    Hi there, I was recently looking at this memory leak tool sIEve: http://home.orange.nl/jsrosman/ So I decided to test out the tool by creating a main page that will open up a popup window. I started by creating 3 pages: index.html, page1.html and page2.html, the index.html page will open a child window (popup) linking to page1.html. Page1 will have a anchor tag that links to page2.html, while page2 will have a link back to page1.html PROBLEM So in the tool I entered the index.html page, popup window opened to page1.html, I then clicked the page2 link, no leaks detected yet. While I'm on page2 I click the link back to page1, and that's where the tool claims there is a link. The leak seems to be happening on the index.html page and I have no idea as to why it would be doing that. Even more concerning is that I can see elements that the tool detects that aren't even on my page. Does anyone have any experience with this tool or know if this really is a memory leak? Any samples of showing how to achieve what I'm doing without memory leaks?   • Is the redistributable ReportViewer 2010 RC available in other languages?

    I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe. Is there a generic language pack for VS 2010 RC that would have the localized report viewers as well?

    which is the best tool for this - Automation of signup process to a website , e.g an email signup The tool should be able to take data from an external data file like an excel of csv file this data file would contain data such as first name , last name , username, password etc. basic data required during an email signup . I am imagining the data file to contain of each field in a seperate column and each row to contain data for different registration / user. At the places where manual intervention is required like image verification etc. the tool should be able to pause the script until manual bit is done then continue with the script.   • How to assign fine grained permission on shared mailboxes?

    Typically you can assign either Full and Sendas permissions to mailboxes using Powershell. In our organization we have a need to assign other fine grained permissions like editor, reader , author to the shared mailboxes. We are using a third party tool to achieve this. I am pretty happy with the tool except for that fact that it is a GUI only tool. I am trying to automate the entire process of shared mailbox creation by using a combination of embedded powershell in C# program. All other steps are easy to automate but because this tool is GUI only, I am really struck. Is there an API method available to to achieve this? I guess EWS API can provide some answer but I really do not know where to start.

    I am writing a game editor, and have a lot of different "tool" objects. They all inherit from BTool and have the same constructor. I would like to dynamically populate a toolbox at runtime with buttons that correspond to these tools, and when clicked have them create an instance of that tool and set it as the current tool. Is this possible, and if so will it be better/easier than creating those buttons by hand?

  • How to correctly load 32-bit DLL dependencies when running a program from a batch file

    I have written a tool that references Microsoft.TeamFoundation.VersionControl.Client.dll, which is a 32-bit DLL. When I build my tool on 64-bit Windows, I set Visual Studio to specifically target X86 in order to force it to a 32-bit build. Targetting X86 instead of All-CPU's prevents me from getting a BadImageFormatException, as long as I invoke the tool directly (e.g. by typing "myTool.exe" on the command line). However, if I run a batch file that invokes the tool, I still get the exception. This happens even if the batch file runs in a 32-bit command prompt (%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\cmd.exe). What else can I do to make this work?

  • Recognizing synchronization object hanging two 3rd party executables

    I'm using a 3rd party tool, which uses a 4th party plugin. Occasionally, the tool will hang when launched. Looking at the stack traces, I can see a few threads are waiting on WaitForSingleObject, and my bet is that they're blocking each other. Some of the threads start at the 3rt party tool, and some at the 4th party plugin. What I'd like to do is file the most detailed complaint to the 3rd party tool vendor, assuming it's its fault (I don't trust their local support to get those details themselves). For that, I'd like to: Find out what are the synchronization objects currently waited on Find out who has created those synchronization objects Tools currently at hand are VS2005, WinDbg and Process Explorer. OS is Window 7 64 bit. Any suggestions?

  • Free object/widget in GTK?

    I've got a pack box in my GTK application and I'm replacing it every once in a while with a completely new entry (at least for now cause I'm in a hurry). Since I'm replacing it with a new instance, do I need to explicitly free from memory the old pack box contents or is there some garbage collection in GTK? If I do need to explicitly need to free the object, is there a command that will recursively go to all objects in that tree (like will it clear my button in a box container inside my main pack box)? I'm using C/GTK-2.0 (gcc v4.4.3 and GTK 2.20.0).

    My friend wants to store electrically her school -notes and process them fast, with backups. She has over 2GB -size repo already and growing all the time (mostly appended material i.e. more school notes, different formats, pdf, pictures and scanned, some text -files, etc). The goal of my friend is to process fast the notes. I suggested command like this here i.e. "# crontab -e @weekly wget --random-wait -e robots=off -U mozilla -mirror http://VeryLong.com". But I think plugging in Rsync somewhere could make it much better with Git. How would you help my friend to process and store the school -material under Git-version-controlling and still keep the size reasonable?     I am parsing html file with the help of the html agility pack to extract the table data from the html file. But there is some html files where there is no ending tags which is optional or there is no starting tag which is also optional.So html agility pack does not parse that html page properly.If I open the content of that html file in the notepad++ then with the option TestFX-->TestFX HTML Tidy-->TiDy clean document and make the content tidy like this. And now this file If I parse with the html agility pack then it parse it properly. Making html page tidy with notepad++ is best option. So I don't know but user can not do this like first he/she makes the page tidy with notepad++ and then go ahead.Then what should I do ?

  • Porting library from Java to Python

    I'm about to port a smallish library from Java to Python and wanted some advice (smallish ~ a few thousand lines of code). I've studied the Java code a little, and noticed some design patterns that are common in both languages. However, there were definitely some Java-only idioms (singletons, etc) present that are generally not-well-received in Python-world. I know at least one tool (j2py) exists that will turn a .java file into a .py file by walking the AST. Some initial experimentation yielded less than favorable results. Should I even be considering using an automated tool to generate some code, or are the languages different enough that any tool would create enough re-work to have justified writing from scratch? If tools aren't the devil, are there any besides j2py that can at least handle same-project import management? I don't expect any tool to match 3rd party libraries from one language to a substitute in another.
