• Is webserver bandwith the entire HTTP Request/Responce?

  Just a quick question. I'm making a web application where C++ communicates with a php script over HTTP Requests/Response. The data being set back and forth is quite small ~36 bytes. But I plan to have many computers connected, contacting the server quite often. I did the math, and I could potentially have gigabytes of data transfer a month. This isn't too much of problem, but it would be if the bandwidth included the request/response headers the request size would be about ~560 bytes. That's about 16x more bandwidth than I was planning... That would be a lot. If if any one knew how host determine bandwidth and could share, that'd be great. Thanks.

• How to pass values from client side to server side ?

  Hi All, I got a situation to transfer values from jsp to servlet's action class. Previously we did it using <input type="hidden" id="name" value="manoj" /> we take this value in action class by request.getParameter("name"). But now we couldn't pass value like "Hi\n i am\n Manoj". Since it has new line included in the string we couldn't take it like this to action. So how I can take value like this to action or is there any way other than hidden input? Thanks .

• How do I implement .net plugins without using AppDomains?

  Problem statement: Implement a plug-in system that allows the associated assemblies to be overwritten (avoid file locking). In .Net, specific assemblies may not be unloaded, only entire AppDomains may be unloaded. I'm posting this because when I was trying to solve the problem, every solution made reference to using multiple AppDomains. Multiple AppDomains are very hard to implement correctly, even when architected at the start of a project. Also, AppDomains didn't work for me because I needed to transfer Type across domains as a setting for Speech Server worfklow's InvokeWorkflow activity. Unfortunately, sending a type across domains causes the assembly to be injected into the local AppDomain. Also, this is relevant to IIS. IIS has a Shadow Copy setting that allows an executing assembly to be overwritten while its loaded into memory. The problem is that (at least under XP, didnt test on production 2003 servers) when you programmatically load an assembly, the shadow copy doesnt work (because you are loading the DLL, not IIS).

• How to open db.sqlite in Aloha Editor?

  I'm using Aloha Editor and I'm able to save/edit content without any problem. Editor saves content in SQLite database (db.sqlite). I know where the file is and I see that's getting bigger while I'm adding more text to it. But when I transfer that fille using filezilla to local computer and I open in notepad I see only: ** This file contains an SQLite 2.1 database ** I've tried to use few programs but it always says that database that unable to open. The programs I've tried: Sqliteman-1.2.2 and sqlitebrowser_200_b1_win.

• Easy way to replicate web page across machines?

  I am trying to replicate a browser page to another browser on another machine. I basically want to reproduce a page exactly how it appears to a customer for viewing by the website owner. I have done this before using some impersonation trickery, but found that it would throw the session state out of wack when the site owner would switch customers. So I would like to stay away from cookie and authentication manipulation. Anybody done anything like that? Is there a way to easily transfer the DOM to a webservice? The tech/programming at my disposal are C#, javascript, WCF.

• Wordpress & Django -- One domain, two servers. Possible?

  My question is about hosting Django and Wordpress under one domain, but two physical machines (actually, they are VMs but same diff). Let's say I have a Django webapp at example.com. I'd like to start a Wordpress blog about my webapp, so any blog page rank mojo flows back to my webapp, I'd like the blog address t be example.com/blog. My understanding is blog.example.com would not transfer said page rank mojo. Because I'm worried about Wordpress security flaws compromising my Django webapp, I want to host Django and Wordpress on two physically separate machines. Given all that, is it possible using re-write rules or a reverse proxy server to do this? I know the easy way is to make my Wordpress blog a subdomain, but I really don't want to do that. Has anyone done this in the past, is it stable? If I need a third server to be a dedicated reverse proxy, that's totally fine. Thanks!

• Count of memory copies in *nix systems between packet at NIC and user application?

  Hi there, This is just a general question relating to some high-performance computing I've been wondering about. A certain low-latency messaging vendor speaks in its supporting documentation about using raw sockets to transfer the data directly from the network device to the user application and in so doing it speaks about reducing the messaging latency even further than it does anyway (in other admittedly carefully thought-out design decisions). My question is therefore to those that grok the networking stacks on Unix or Unix-like systems. How much difference are they likely to be able to realise using this method? Feel free to answer in terms of memory copies, numbers of whales rescued or areas the size of Wales ;) Their messaging is UDP-based, as I understand it, so there's no problem with establishing TCP connections etc. Any other points of interest on this topic would be gratefully thought about!   Hi all, What is the best way to transfer changes that include new and deleted directories and/or new and deleted (actually moved) files in those directories from a subversion repository on linux to windows? I do my developments on linux using a subversion repository, but I have to test my changes on windows as well. My windows machine has a tortoisesvn repository which I tried to patch with a svn diff output. This failed miserably since my patch contains a renamed (i.e. deleted and added under a different name) directory, a new directory and the files in there. Do I do things wrong by just applying the svn diff output as a patch in tortoisesvn? For now I think that my best option is to have the windows tree on the same svn version as the linux tree and just copy the entire changed directory over the existing directory. Would that work?

There are several columns which are indexed; while others are not. I am concerned with time cost per batch insertion: - 1st batch insertion: N1 - 2nd batch insertion: N2 - 3rd batch insertion: N3 The question is: will N1, N2, and N3 roughly be the same, or N3 N2 N1? That is, will the time cost be a constant or incremental, with existence of several indexes? All indexes are non-clustered.   Hello Geeks, I am developing some tool for BI. There are terms like Fact, Dimensions and Measures. My application will connect to the normal database and read the data from that table. Now, I want to convert all this data into columnar database. That is all the columns from this table will be transfer into 3 tables each. Consider below table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC 3 ABC Now, I want to convert the Product column i.e. dimension into 3 tables. dim_product_table:- ID Product 1 XYZ 2 ABC dim_product_fmk(fact map by key):- Where we will store key-value pair of Key Row 1 1 1 2 2 3 dim_product_fmr(fact map by row):- The above table will be reversed. Web Service: Web services are typically application programming interfaces (API) or web APIs that are accessed via Hypertext Transfer Protocol and executed on a remote system hosting the requested services. Web services tend to fall into one of two camps: Big Web Services[1] and RESTful Web Services. I am not quite clear what the real difference between the two things. It seems that one thing could belongs to RPC and is kind of web service at the same time. Is Web Service a higher level representation of RPC?

• Are there any was to link my program with Wine-compiled part?

  I am trying to use windows dll functionality in Linux. My current solution is a compilation of a separate wine application, that uses dll and transfer requests/responses between dll and main application over IPC. This works, but is a real overhead comparing to a simple dll calls. I see that wine-compiled program usually is a bootstrapping-script and some .so, which (according to file utility) is normal linux dynamically linked library. Are there any way to link that .so directly to my application? Are there any manual?

  I created an app for Windows Mobile 6.5 and am fairly happy with it. However, if anyone else need to use this app, they will have to transfer an initial file (txt or csv) to the device. For a developer this isn't a problem but is this too much to ask of an end user? Granted, they will want to move (sync) data back to their desktop after the device's data have been updated. So how do other apps solve this problem? Do I need to provide some kind of syncing software?

I looked at many websocket server examples on the web and non of them can transfer over 126 chars from client to server and from server to client. I understand that it is something with dataframes and opcodes but i never figured it out. I'm using C#. • Best way to pass a 2d array into javascript from php?

  Ok, what i'm trying to do here is to pass a 2d array from php to javascript in the easiest way possible. The main reason for this is because i have the array which is previously filled with data via the phpscript and doing it one by one and just "calling it as it's needed" will not work out too well since well there's more than just one row required when it's called and i'd rather not do something like for all of the elements in it as it's number is unknown until it gets said data from the database. I was going to do a while loop to write in some of the data into elements sot hat it coudl be later pulled up more easily but i cannot seem to find an easy way to do this currently. If anyone has an easy way to transfer this to javascript without having to do what i previously said.

• Passing a web service an unknown number of parameters

  I'm relatively new to utilizing web services. I'm trying to create one that will be accepting data from a ASP.Net form whose input controls are created dynamically at runtime and I don't how many control values will be getting passed. I'm thinking I'll be using jQuery's serialize() on the form to get the data, but what do I have the web service accept for a parameter? I thought maybe I could use serializeArray(), but still I don't know what type of variable to accept for the JavaScript array. Finally, I was thinking that I might need to create a simple data transfer object with the data before sending it along to the web service. I just didn't wanna go through with the DTO route if there was a much simpler way or an established best practice that I should follow. Thanks in advance for any direction you can provide and let me know I wasn't clear enough, or if you have any questions.

• How prevent anyone from stealing my shared_ptr?

  So, I use boost::shared_ptr for all the various reference-counting benefits it provides -- reference counting for starters, obviously, but also the ability to copy, assign, and therefore store in STL Containers. The problem is, if I pass it to just one "malicious" function or object, the object can save the ptr and then I'll never be able to de-allocate it without the foreign function or object nicely relinquishing its ownership. Ultimately, I try to keep object ownership explicit. I accomplish this by having the owner keep the only shared_ptr to the object, and "guest" objects only store weak_ptrs to the object. I really don't want the "shared" part of shared_ptr, but I'm required to use shared_ptr in order to make weak_ptrs. I want to use scoped_ptr, but it's extremely limited since you can't copy it. You can't store it in a container, you can't lend out weak_ptrs from it, and you can't transfer ownership to a new manager. What's the solution?

  I am building a taxi dispatching app first: I need the passenger app to show the nearest taxis, now I know how to do that in code but in my way I have to go through all the taxis locations(in database on server) and calculate the distance from the passenger location and get the lowest ones - I don't want to do this because there will be a lot of taxis and going through all of them and making some math is kind of pain on the server- is there a way to get the nearest ones without going through all of them? second: what the best database to use - first, should it be sql or non-sql - I need a very robust database, because there will be a lot of updates (I mean the passengers locations added then deleted when arriving to destination && the taxis location changes frequently) finally: I will use RubyOnRails to do the server side and json as data transfer format, do you have a recommendation to me on something better? • Migrating Data to MSSQL 2008

  I am trying to migrate data from an Informix database to MSSQL 2008. I've got quite a lot of data to move. I've been try multiple methods to get the data over, and so far SQLBulkCopy in multiple chunks seems to be the fastest that I can find. Does anyone know of a faster means of getting the data over? I'm trying to cut down on the transfer time so that on my cut-over date I don't run out of time to do the full cut-over. Thanks.
