• How to make teamcity's svn checkout more verbose?

  We have a very large svn external containing about 30,000 500k files. This checkout can take a long time and we would like to see the progress in the TeamCity logs as it happens. • Best open source alternative for MS Visual Source Safe?

  We are leaving VSS for TFS or any other alternatives. I'm the one who persists to go for an open source alternative like SVN. Now I'm searching for a good open source Version Control regarding following aspects: We are in love with open source movement and cross-platform. Could it be possible to use it with Mono, SharpDevelop and Express editions of VS instead of Visual Studio itself? What about backup? Is it integrated with VS without serious problems? Any API or command prompt access?   Firstly, please beware I'm new to SVN. Then, my question has much in common with Get current revision number in Subclipse?. The (seeming) problem is (I use Ecpilse v3.5.0 (build id I20090611-1540)): My freshly installed Subclipse plugin offers "revision - last revision loaded into workspace" label under "Windows > Preferences > Team > SVN > Label decorations" That seems to correspond to "Last changed revision" under "File > Properties > Subversion" (and not the "Revision" there). Hence, the question.

• AnkhSVN, mysisgit and Pageant

  I have recently installed msysgit on my machine (its running Windows 7) to use Git for some projects. A lot of my projects are under SVN, in which I use AnkhSVN in Visual Studio 2008 to commit etc. Since I have installed msysgit everytime I try to commit, update etc inside Visual Studio, the program C:\msysgit\bin\ssh.exe loads up, asks for my password, then Ankh throws an exception. I currently use Pageant to save my login credentials for SVN - I have TortoiseSVN installed, which is still working fine... Has anybody got any suggestions to get Anhk working again - without uninstalling msysgit? Thanks

• Redmine connecting to SVN through SSL

  I am having trouble connecting Redmine to a locally hosted subversion repository using SSL. I suspect it's the self-signed certificate that usually triggers a warning in the SVN client and browser. When I try to connect to the local repo through SSL in Redmine, I get a red "Revision not available" error. When I try connecting through svn://, the connection times out, and I have to restart the web server. Connecting without SSL works without problems. It would be nice to run subversion on SSL to make it safely accessible from the outside as well. I could run the repository through plain HTTP but would like SSL for outside communication. As far as I understand, subversion can't be run both ways at the same time. Does anybody know what to do in such a situation? Is there a configuration setting to ignore invalid certificates somewhere?

• How do you get notified of your repos' updates?

  I'm working on several repositories at work and would like to be informed, if anything changes in the SVN repositories. I made a small BAT script (yes, BAT is usefull sometimes) that keeps executing an svn log -r BASE:HEAD on my working copy. It shows all submit comments and revision dates. It works really well but it's not comfortable for different repositories. How do you keep track of changes in your repositories? Do you use a small program you made for yourself? Do you use software someone else made? I'm interested in every approach to this problem. I would like to get notifications and several more information about the commit. The IDE integrated functions are good, but work only if I request the information. I don't want to act to get this information. Platform: Windows, Subversion 1.5 and higher.

• building mono from svn - android target

  There were patches made to mono on trunk svn to support android. My understanding is that essentially instead of Koush's system which builds mono using the android NDK build system directly, these patches add support for the android NDK using the regular mono configure.sh process. I'd like to play around with this patch, but not being an expert in the mono build system, I have no idea how to tell it to target the android NDK, or even where to look. I've been able to build mono from SVN using the default target (linux) on Ubuntu, but no documentation on how to target android was given with the patches. Since anyone not submitting or reviewing a patch is generally ignored on the mono mailing list, I figured I'd post the question here.

  i have subversion setup using apache and DAV. OS is RHEL 4. Repository is created on NFS server mounted on this machine. when i try to access this repository i get following error in apache logs (20014)Internal error: database is locked Could not fetch resource information. [500, #0] Could not open the requested SVN filesystem [500, #200030] Could not open the requested SVN filesystem [500, #200030] The URI does not contain the name of a repository. [403, #190001] i did 'chmod' on that mounted partition but problem still persists. any help?

• Tortoise SVN Icon Overlays Displaying Everywhere...Why?

  Update: So, this turns out to have nothing to do with Tortoise SVN. I use Mozy.com for off-site backups and their new version includes these icon overlays. They can be disabled via the config options...or see here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?p=1385433. Thanks @OS for the answer. Been using Tortoise SVN for some time on my Vista box. Within the last few days (and after recently upgrading to 1.5.4) the icon overlays are displaying on all files. My exclude path is: * My include paths are: C:\Users\jw\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\SVNProjects* C:\Users\jw\Documents\VB Projects\SVNProjects* I haven't touched those settings in months. The usual directory-skeleton has been set up for me (branches, tags and trunk). Now I'm about to create a directory for me and my colleagues to put our files in. I'm quite sure the right place to put it is in trunk. Now here and there in tutorials, I see terms like "modules" and "projects" such as in Checking Out a Project - svn checkout svn checkout http://host_name/svn_dir/repository_name/project/trunk proj Is proj in the above line some glorified directory in trunk? Should I do something else than a checkout on trunk, mkdir and then commit when creating a directory for me and my colleagues?   Using a google code svn as a basic maven repository is easy. However, using mvn site:deploy efficiently on google code seems hard. So far, I found only these solutions: * Deploy to a local file:/// and use a PERL script to delete the old and copy the new * Use wagen-svn to deploy. This is very slow (hours!) and does not delete old files * Plus all mime-types are wrong I am looking for a solution that allows new developers in my projects to check out the current source and just use it, without requiring to install PERL or learn weird steps to perform or wait hours.

  So I am not much of a source control expert, I've used SVN for projects in the past. I have to use Git for a particular project (client supplied Git repo). My workflow is as such that I will be working on the files from two different computers, and often I need to check in changes that are unstable when I move from place to place so I can continue my work. What then occurs is when, say, the client goes to get the latest version, they will also download the unstable code. In SVN, you can address this by creating a trunk and use working branches, or use the trunk as the working version and create stable branches. What is the equivalent concept in Git, and is there a simple way to do this via Github?

• subversion merge back to trunk

  I set up a branch several weeks ago. When some changes were made to the trunk, SVN was committing to the branch, and not the trunk. The changes were minor and applicable to the branch anyway, so I assumed this is how the branch should work. Now that the branch work is finished, I merged back the branch back to my working trunk, assuming SVN would replace the old trunk with the new branch in the repository as well. That is not the case though. My repository trunk is out of date. I would like to make the repository trunk be same as the branch and then delete the branch. How can I do this? • Subclipse CollabNet Myster Icon

  The scenario is that I'm merging a series of cherry picked revisions from on SVN branch into trunk. I'm using the subclipse CollabNet client to do the merge. Everything works great, except for in addition to the files I picked to merge, my working directory shows a series of changes that svn thinks have changed but that I haven't chosen to merge. If I do a diff on the files in question it tells me there's no differences. If I do a commit, I get the screenshot below, with the mystery icon I haven't been able to find document anywhere. • Subversion pre-commit hook to clean XML from WebDAV autocommit client

  I know that it isn't normally safe to modify a commit from a pre-commit hook in Subversion because SVN clients will not see the version that has been committed, and will cache the wrong thing, but I'd like to clean the code from a versioning-naïve WebDAV client that won't keep a local cached copy. The idea is that when I look at the repository with an SVN client, the diffs are clean. The client, by the way is MS Word, using 2003 XML format files. We're already using this format in a WebDAV system, but we'd like to add a versioning capability for expert users. Everywhere I look for documentation on how to modify the code in a pre-commit hook, I get the answer "Don't do this", not the answer "Here's how to do this, but it's reccomeded you don't", so I can't even easily try it to see if it's going to cause me problems.

  I'm not sure it's even possible, but my command line usecase goes something like this: do svn update do a svn log -l {how many times since my last commit - 1} do a `svn diff -rHEAD:{my last commit revision + 1} and try to get an overview of what happened since last time I touched the code. I get a lot of valuable information from this, and would like everybody in my team to get the same feeling of control and overview of the code base. Not everyone in my team is comfortable with the command line but like the hudson interface. So; is there a way to the the commit diff since last build (we do a build per commit) in the individual build page?

• irritating TortoiseSVN error - file or directory is corrupted and chkdsk at boot

  Can't move 'D:\Documents\Websites\blah.svn\tmp\entries' to 'D:\ ... .svn\entries': The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. Any thoughts on what would cause this? This usually happens when trying to commit a large number of new files. Sometimes an update fixes it but most of the time I have to delete the offending directory, re-download it, and attempt to add or update it again. EDIT: it seems my pc always wanting to chkdsk as boot is related.

• Restoring a subversion repository to workcopy revision

  My subversion VM died the other day (host hardware melted) and I had to restore a backed up copy of the vmware server image. The restore went well and the VM is running again on a new host. The problem I have is that my restored repository is at revision 60 but my working copy on my PC is at 66. When I try and commit my working copy I get the following error message. svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: No such revision 61 What is the best way to force this commit and bring subversion up to the same revision as my working copy?   Hi all. I'm new to SVN and have experimented with it locally on my Dreamhost test server (which has a Subversion "one-click-install" function). Having found my way around the functionality I'm definitely sold, but a little lost about using it to manage my work website (not hosted with Dreamhost, so not offering a one-click SVN installation). Am I correct in thinking that I can set up a repository on my website root (which contains all the files), and then when I develop new features and run a commit, this will update my site? Is this the proper workflow for this sort of thing? If so, is there a standard way to set this kind of thing up on my remote server? Thanks.

I uncompressed that file and used torotoisesvn import to put it into my repository which i host with projectlocker(a svn hosting provider). Now what i want to know is : 1) I want to view the files and the code that has changed since last revision. After doing the import the latest revision is at 8. I want to see what files and code has changed between revision no. 8 and revision no. 7 and maybe able to compare all of it upto revision no. 1. My question is can i do this ? 2)How to view these changes in projectlocker( or if it's the similar process with every svn host provider ) ?

  Hi, We have a requirement that every piece of code that makes it into production will be reviewed by a senior developer. The way I have envisioned this working is by a naming convention for branches that regular developers cannot check code into. Following the SVN recomended directory structure this translates into something like. [project-name]/trunk/ [project-name]/branches/ [project-name]/branches/development-01 [project-name]/branches/development-02 [project-name]/branches/task-increasefontsize [project-name]/branches/release-01 [project-name]/branches/release-02 [project-name]/tags/ So in the authz file I would like to have something like the following [/] @developers = rw [/*/branches/release-*] @developers = r @senior_developers = rw However I can't find any evidence that SVN supports * (or any other wildcard character). Is such a thing possible or do I need a pre-commit hook?

• subversion 1.6.x losing changes on check-in

  I'm trying to figure out if this is a known issue with SVN 1.6.x Developer A modifies a file and commits it. Developer B modifies the same file. Tries to commit it and gets told local copy out of date so does an update and then a commit. However the changes from Developer A are lost so the resulting file only contains the version that Developer B checked in. We can see this in the logs. It seems to happen when the same file is modified but in different places. Anyone else experienced this? We've had it happen 4 or 5 times in the past few weeks and we've lost a half day or so each time trying to figure out what's been lost, etc. We're starting to lose confidence in SVN. Should we be thinking of moving to GIT or Mecurial? Would that sort out this problem?

• Source control issue with deploying versions

  Hi all, we have this discussion about how to deploy to production revisions that are UAT closed without revisions with UAT not-closed status. We are using SVN and we figured out that we are not able to just take revisions without prior-revisions on the same file made. Let me explain it on this example: we have 3 revisions made on same file: r1: UAT closed (ready to deploy) r2: UAT not-closed (not ready) r3: UAT closed (ready to deploy) now I want to deploy only my changes for which the UAT is closed (e.g. r1 and r3). In SVN this is not possible because r3 contains also r2 changes.. How do you made this to work? Maybe branching? Or just take r1 and wait until r2 is UAT closed? thanks
