• Why specifcially in my example does this "too much recursion" error occur in my JavaScript?

- by alex
I have been looking into this for a little while now. I have a gallery on my page, that uses Ariel Flesler's scrollTo plugin. It works fine on the home page, but not on the Contact page. In Firefox, I get the error... Too much recursion I have sorted through as much code as possible and set breakpoints in a few places. I am pretty sure it is something to do with the plugin (specifically, when it is called in the click handler). For your convenience, I am using the unpacked versions of jQuery and scrollTo plugin. What on earth am I doing wrong? Thanks for your time.

• C# Get Keys from a Dictionary<string, Stream>

- by alex
Suppose I have a Dictionary like so: Dictionary<string, Stream> How can I get a list (or IEnumerable or whatever) of JUST the Keys from this dictionary? Is this possible? I could enumerate the dictionary, and extract the keys one by one, but I was hoping to avoid this. In my instance, the Dictionary contains a list of filenames (file1.doc, filex.bmp etc...) and the stream content of the file from another part of the application.

• Unreachable code detected in case statement

- by alex
I have a code: protected override bool ProcessCmdKey(ref Message msg, Keys keyData) { switch (keyData) { case Keys.Alt|Keys.D1: if (this._condition1) { return true; } else { return base.ProcessCmdKey(ref msg, keyData); } break; case Keys.Control |Keys.U: if (this._condition2) { return true; } else { return base.ProcessCmdKey(ref msg, keyData); } break; default: return base.ProcessCmdKey(ref msg, keyData); } return true; It gives me "unreachable code detected" warning on breaks. Is it good practice not to use break operator here ? I don't want to turn off "unreachable code detected" warning. PS: There are many case in my ProcessCmdKey method.

• ASP.NET MVC Route based on Web Browser/Device (e.g. iPhone)

- by Alex
Is it possible, from within ASP.NET MVC, to route to different controllers or actions based on the accessing device/browser? I'm thinking of setting up alternative actions and views for some parts of my website in case it is accessed from the iPhone, to optimize display and functionality of it. I don't want to create a completely separate project for the iPhone though as the majority of the site is fine on any device. Any idea on how to do this?

• Ensuring Updated CSS/JavaScript on Client Side

- by Alex
I'm trying to ensure that visitors of my ASP.NET MVC website always have the most-current CSS and Javascript (and not some older cached version). I tried to realize this by generating a seed value when the application domain starts, and automatically append it to the CSS and Javascript URLs (so now instead of /Content/All.js the link is /Content/All.js?549238 etc.). Unfortunately I just found out by debugging via Firebug that this causes now a full download request every time (the new "seeded" response is no longer cached at all, but I only wanted the first check to download the 'updated' version, but then cache again/only check if there is a difference). How can I achieve my goal, is there a better way of doing this? I need the client to always request the newest version, but then cache if no change happened. Edit: This appears to be related to the fact that my page is served over SSL. I asked a follow up question here regarding enabling clientside caching with SSL.

• Image gallery with a Lightbox in jQuery

- by Alex
Hi. I'd like to create a jQuery image gallery of showcased products. It will show one product image at a time, with Next/Previous arrows, and a brief name and price as overlay on the image. If users click it, it will go to the order page. It will have an icon to show a larger, modal version (Lightbox style) of the image with full description, price, and a link to a page to order it. In other words, it's an inline gallery, about 250px X 150px, with next/previous option, but also with a little icon to fire it up in a lightbox type modal window that can have links. Here's an example which doesn't have the inline gallery effect. Here's another, also missing the inline gallery. Is there such a beast as what I'm looking for? Thanks.

• Making Swedish characters show properly in Windows Command Prompt using Python in Notepad++

- by Alex
The title explains it well. I have set up Notepad++ to open the Python script in the command prompt when I press F8 but all Swedish characters looks messed up when opening in CMD but perfectly fine in e.g IDLE. This simple example code: #!/usr/bin/env python #-*- coding: UTF-8 -*- print "åäö" Looks like this. As you can see the output of the batch file I use to open Python in cmd below shows the characters correctly but not the Python script above it. How do I fix this? I open the file in cmd using this method

• Is JSON array parsable?

- by Alex
I have a YQL query that extracts data from a page and returns it to my script as JSON. The JSON is huge, and as such, here's my question: Is JSON array parsable? So that I can iterate over the entire JSON structure?

• How to backup data stored with Core Data - iPhone app?

- by Alex
I'm using sqlite for the persistent store, so could I just upload the .sqlite file to, for example, Amazon S3 as a way of providing users with the ability to backup their app data? Then for restoring just download it back and replace the existing .sqlite file in the app's folder. Does anybody see any issues with that? Has anyone done it? Any other suggestions on how to implement data backup feature?

• Localization of attribute values in .NET

- by Alex Angas
How can I localize/internationalize attribute values in .NET? My specific example is for ASP.NET web parts such as WebDisplayName, WebDescription, etc. where I inherit from the base class that uses these attributes. Also, is there any difference to doing this with attributes declared in my own classes? Thanks!

• Python - how to check if weak reference is still available

- by Alex
Hi all, I am passing some weakrefs from Python into C++ class, but C++ destructors are actively trying to access the ref when the real object is already dead, obviously it crashes... Is there any Python C/API approach to find out if Python reference is still alive or any other known workaround for this ? Thanks

• Trying to start a service on boot on Android

- by Alex
I've been trying to start a service when a device boots up on android, but I cannot get it to work. I've looked a number of links online but none of the code is working. Am I forgetting something? This is my code. Manifest <receiver android:name=".StartServiceAtBootReceiver" android:enabled="true" android:exported="false" android:label="StartServiceAtBootReceiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action._BOOT_COMPLETED"/> </intent-filter> </receiver> <service android:enabled="true" android:name="com.test.RunService"/> Receiver OnReceive public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { if("android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED".equals(intent.getAction())) { Intent serviceLauncher = new Intent(context, RunService.class); context.startService(serviceLauncher); Log.v("TEST", "Service loaded at start"); } } Thanks,

• Code Golf: Duplicate Character Removal in String

- by Alex
The challenge: The shortest code, by character count, that detects and removes duplicate characters in a String. Removal includes ALL instances of the duplicated character (so if you find 3 n's, all three have to go), and original character order needs to be preserved. Example Input 1: nbHHkRvrXbvkn Example Output 1: RrX Example Input 2: nbHHkRbvnrXbvkn Example Output 2: RrX (the second example removes letters that occur three times; some solutions have failed to account for this) (This is based on my other question where I needed the fastest way to do this in C#, but I think it makes good Code Golf across languages.)

CODE: $filename = "FILENAME..."; header("Content-type: $type"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment;filename=$filename"); header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary"); header('Pragma: no-cache'); header('Expires: 0'); set_time_limit(0); readfile($file); Can anybody help? Thanks.

I have some code that basically calls
GUI gui = new GUI(x, y)
the only problem I'm having is that as well as creating the new GUI object, it is not deleting the old window. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the old window. Thanks.

• Javascript code in ASP.NET MVC Partial Views (ASCX) or not?

- by Alex
Is there a "best practice" for placing Javascript code when you have many partial views and JS code that's specific to them? I feel like I'm creating a maintenance nightmare by having many partial views and then a bunch of independent Javascript files for them which need to be synced up when there is a partial view change. It appears, for maintenance purposes, better to me to put the JS code with the partial view. But then I'm violating generally accepted practices that all JS code should be at the bottom of the page and not mixed in, and also I'd end up with multiple references to the same JS file (as I'd include a reference in each ASCX for intellisense purposes). Does anyone have a better idea? Thank you!
