  Hello, How can it be done in most simply way to write (or maybe there is something embedded in haskell) function which takse as arguments list of tuples (String, Int) and Int x and return top x tuples as list according to x value. I wonder if its possible to write a function which also takes 3 argument which is the name of (or index) of filed in tuple according to which sorting has to be done. What are best solutions to make it quite generic, Im new to haskell I would do somethink like that in imperative languages without any problems but I want to know how to write it in quite good way in haskell, thanks for help

• Documented process for using facebook connect for the iPhone to upload photos

  After looking I did come accross this post on the facebook forums: link They are feeding the facebook object a UIImage. That seems logical, but where is this documented? The API documentation is generalized to all platforms. Where are the iPhone specific requirements for arguments and their data types? Thanks **Update***** I still have not came across any API docs pertaining to Cocoa. I did, however, gather the information I needed by piecing together forum information, Facebook sample code, and some glue. Hopefully they'll issue something a little more concrete over the next few months.

Is there any way to modify the environment variables that get sent to the external process? Ideally I'd be able to make them visible only to the process that's running, but if I have to programmatically set them system-wide, I'll settle for that (but, would UAC force me to run as administrator to do that?)   I'm looking for a package to support reliably executing external processes from Java. My criteria: Abstract over OS. So if I want to run 'foo', it will look for 'foo.bat', 'foo.exe' under windows and 'foo' under other OSs (or, have a way of passing a map of os-command) Being able to execute Java classes by simply giving the class name and arguments (so the package locates the java command, copies jvm flags and then executes) Process stdout and stderr properly Watchdog / Monitoring capabilities I've looked at commons-exec but it looks like it answers only 3 & 4. Ant has support for execution but looks like an overkill to use it for this purpose only.

  I have been experiencing some frustrations trying to make a simple Oracle cursor retrieval procedure work with JDBC. I keep on getting an error of "[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06553: PLS-306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'GETNAME'", but I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. • Is it legal for a C++ reference to be NULL?

  A while back I ran into a bug the looked something like this: void fn(int &i) { printf(&i == NULL ? "NULL\n" : "!NULL\n"); } int main() { int i; int *ip = NULL; fn(i); // prints !NULL fn(*ip); // prints NULL return 0; } More recently, I ran into this comment about C++ references: [References arguments make] it clear, unlike with pointers, that NULL is not a possible value. But, as show above, NULL is a possible value. So where is the error? In the language spec? (Unlikely.) Is the compiler in error for allowing that? Is that coding guide in error (or a little ambiguous)? Or am I just wandering into the minefield known as undefined behavior?

  Hey, I've been writing a networking server for a while now in C++ and have come to the stage to start looking for a way to properly and easily handle all packets. I am so far that I can figure out what kind of packet it is, but now I need to figure out how to get the needed data to the handler functions. I had the following in mind: Have a map of function pointers with the opcode as key and the function pointer as value Have all these functions have 2 arguments, packet and ObjectAccessor ObjectAccessor class contains various functions to fetch various items such as users and alike Perhaps pass the user's guid too so we can fetch it from the objectaccessor I'd like to know the various implementations others have come up with, so please comment on this idea and reply with your own implementations. • In a pre-commit hook - how to access/compare current and previous versions of files

  I'm trying to add to our existing pre-commit SVN hook so that it will check for and block an increase in file size for files in specific directory/s. I've written a python script to compare two file sizes, which takes two files as arguments and uses sys.exit(0) or (1) to return the result, this part seems to work fine. My problem is in calling the python script from the batch file, how to reference the newly committed and previous versions of each file? The existing code is new to me and a mess of %REPOS%, %TXN%s etc and I'm not sure how to go about using them. Is there a simple, standard way of doing this? It also already contains code to loop through the changed files using svnlook changed, so that part shouldn't be an issue. Thanks very much

• Local variable not being passed to partial template by render?

  I don't seem to be able to pass a variable to my partial template in rails (2.3.5). My code is as follows; In the main view .html.erb file: <% f.fields_for :payments do |payment_form| %> <%= render 'payment', {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } %> <% end %> and in the _payment.html.erb file: <%= t %> produces a wrong number of arguments (0 for 1) error. The payment_form object is being passed to the partial as f without any problems. I've tried a number of variations on the above syntax (e.g. :locals => {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } without success. I presume I'm doing something pretty basic wrong but just can't see it.

• How do I write to command line from a WPF application?

  Hi I know how to write to console but if I write to console in my program and call my program from the command line it won't display anything. How do I make it so that when I say Console.WriteLine or Console.Out.Writeline ir prints to the command prompt from which it was called and not somewhere else? Once again I know how to do Console.WriteLine so it's not that :-p unless I'm doing it wrong. From what I can tell it's probably something to do with Console.SetOut(TextWriter t) this is a WPF application and I need it to post its data to the command line while still retaining the GUI at startup. I've triple checked and my code hits the print lines, I can actually see the lines being printed to the Visual Studio output window, it just won't display in the command line when I run it manually without VS. If possible I need to conditionally have the console display. ie if run from command line (or even with command arguments), display or post to the prompt, otherwise do not.

• [C#] Creating standalone, console (shell) for domain-specific operations

  Say that I have a system service, and I want to offer a low-level maintenance access to it. For that purpose, I'd like to create a standalone, console application that somehow connects to server process and lets user type in commands, allow it to use auto-completion and auto-suggestion on single/double TAB press (just like linux bash shell, mysql cli, cmd.exe, and countless others), allow command line editing capabilities (history, cursor keys to move around text..), etc. Now, it's not that much of a problem to create something like that by rolling my own from scratch, handling user input, scanning pressed keys, and doing correct actions. But, why reinvent the wheel? Is there some library/framework that helps with this kind of problems, just like readline library that offers improved command-line editing capabilities under linux? Of course, this new "shell" would respond only to valid, domain-specific commands, and would suggest valid arguments, options, switches... Any ideas? Thanks!

But only -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ is working i.e for String class link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html?is-external=true is generated. but for android.app.Dialog , no link is generated. Please help !!

  I have a struct that's defined with a large number of vanilla char* pointers, but also an object member. When I try to statically initialize such a struct, I get a compiler error. typedef struct { const char* pszA; // ... snip ... const char* pszZ; SomeObject obj; } example_struct; // I only want to assign the first few members, the rest should be default example_struct ex = { "a", "b" }; SomeObject has a public default constructor with no arguments, so I didn't think this would be a problem. But when I try to compile this (using VS), I get the following error: error C2248: 'SomeObject::SomeObject' : cannot access private member declared in class 'SomeObject' Any idea why?

The email-related credentials are ok because I could send emails until I upgraded my rails version about two weeks ago.   TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE have been deprecated a long time ago and will, eventually, be removed from SQL Server. However, they are not going to be discontinued right away, not even in the next version of SQL Server, so it's not convenient for my enterprise to transform thousands of columns right away, even if it is using SQL Server 2012. What arguments can I use to postpone this migration? I know there are some advantages in using the new types. But I'm strictly looking for reasons not to migrate my data that is already functioning pretty well in the old types.

• Returning and instance of a Class given its .class (MyClass.class)

  I have an enum that will hold my algorithms. I cannot instantiate these classes because I need the application context which is only available once the application has started. I want to load the class at runtime when I choose by calling getAlgorithm(Context cnx). How do I easily instantiate a class at runtime given its .class (and my constructor takes arguments)? • What can cause the language bar to disappear in a win32 application?

  When I run my Win32 application the Windows language bar (which is visible in all other applications) disappears after about 5 seconds. It reappears if I quit my application or alt-tab to a different application. If I alt-tab back into my application, it disappears again after five seconds. The switch key doesn't work either. It seems as if the system somehow has concluded that my application doesn't "support" the language bar. Is there something I need to do to for the language bar to be enabled? Or something I shouldn't be doing that can cause it to disappear? The application has a single custom window (where I draw DirectX graphics). I've looked through the arguments to CreateWindow and RegisterClass as well as the window messages that I handle (instead of passing to DefWindowProc) but nothing seems to be directly related to the language bar. I've only tested this on Windows 7.

• Suggest encoding which removes slashes which I can use as the format for REST-style URL-paramteters

  Given a path to a REST style URL: http://site.com/rest/customer/foo/robot/bar/1 When you GET it, it returns a PDF to the foo-customer containing page 1 of the bar-URL. While foo is the name of the customer bar is an URL. The URL usually contains slashes and might look something like this: http://anothersite.com/interestingarticle.html As REST URL's separate arguments by slashes I can't just put it into the REST URL above. Which encoding should I use? I can't use Base 64 as it utilizes the slash as well. As a technical note I will encode the URL in a .NET-application and decode it in PHP.

• How should flushing be handled in a doctrine EntityManager instance shared across different services in symfony2?

  I have defined several services in symfony 2 which persist changes to the database. These services have the doctrine instance as one of their dependencies: a.given.service: class: Acme\TestBundle\Service\AGivenService arguments: [@doctrine] If I have two different services and both of them persist objects through the EntityManager, which is obtained like this from the doctrine instance: $em = $doctrine->getEntityManager(); Would all services always share the same EntityManager? If so, how should I handle flushing if I wanted to handle all the changes in a single transaction? I have checked this: http://docs.doctrine-project.org/projects/doctrine-orm/en/2.0.x/reference/transactions-and-concurrency.html and it explains how to handle different transactions in a request, but I want to achieve the opposite, which is having different changes in different services handled as a single transaction. Is there a better approach to handle multiple changes in different services? For now my best bet is having a front-end service in charge of calling the other services and doing the flushing afterwards. Backend services would persist objects but would not do any flushing.
