• How can I change a network password that Windows Explorer has saved?

  I use Windows 7 and I saved my login to a server in the network. But meanwhile my password has changed. When I now try to access that server then Windows Explorer automatically uses the old user and password, so I get an "Access denied" popup. And my account is blocked after 3 failed login attempts. How can I delete or change the saved password?

  I have the following code that returns the needed data into excel and manually changing the date will change the returned data; however, I'd like to reference a cell with a formula that will make the query a bit more user friendly. I've tried using my limited knowledge of referencing a cell but none have worked. • Change popup format for Kopete in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.04)

  After trialling Empathy which was included with Gnome/Ubuntu 10.04 I decided to go back to Kopete since I was losing chat messages. However, for some reason, Kopete is now displaying all popups in a big, ugly window with four options (ok, cancel, view, ignore, or something like that) that actually all seem to do nothing. I tried looking for options in Kopete to change the popup style to the nicer Gnome style one which goes up in the top-right of my desktop, but it doesn't seem to be possible with this release. So I had to resort to removing all popup messages from Kopete to prevent my screen being taking over by a popup requiring action for every incoming chat message. Unfortunately, this now means that I do not get any notifications when people message me - and so I can go a couple of hours without realising that they did. Anyone know how to get the nice, unobtrusive popups working in this version?

  I have 4 VMs on a linux host, call them A, B, C, D running on Z. I really don't care when A and B come up, but I would like to make sure that D comes up before C. I believe that in VMWare 2.x it's possible to change the boot order. Is this possible in 1.x as well? Is this done in /etc/vmware/vm-list? The server admin assures me that my virtual machine is running and assigned the new IP address. I have checked the firewalls and had the remote admin restart the VM instance. Neither of these fixed the problem. How do I troubleshoot a remote server which I am unable to SSH to? I'm actually even unable to ping the remote IP (connection timed out).

• Change the audio output device in Firefox

  I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

  Hay, i have some files on my server with the owner set to "apache", I'm not quite sure how this happened. Anyway, i need to change the permission of these files to 0777 so i can download/edit them. However i cannot. I'm using a 1and1 Linux server and use Plesk to administrate it. I have the ability to login via SSH. However, if i run chmod or chown i get a "permission denied" error, and if i try to sudo chmod or chown it says the command cannot be found. When i go to edit my domain details, i get this option Shell access to server with FTP user's credentials and have these options /bin/sh /bin/bash /sbin/nologin /bin/bash (chrooted) /bin/rbash Any idea's how i should go about changing the permissions or changing the owner? • I have a password protected USB drive with hidden partition, how to convert to normal USB drive?

  I have a generic USB drive which has password protection, and I want to stop this password protection mechanism and to use it as a normal 8GB USB drive. I received this USB drive as a gift in Hong Kong, and there was no instruction menu whatsoever, not even the manufacturer name. When I plug the drive in Windows XP, the removable drive comes up as a read only 5.28MB partition with two files. When I try to add or remove any files or formatting it, it will says the drive is write protected. After launching the Login.exe and typed in the password, a 8GB read/writeable partition will be shown, and I'm free to do anything to it. But once after the drive is unplugged and replugged, the same read only partition will still comes out no matter what I did to the hidden partition. Anyone knows about this kind if USB drive? What did the manufacturer do to hide the partition? Is there a way to "low-level" formatting this drive to convert (or revert) it to a normal drive?   Hi I have a script that needs to extract certain information form the /proc/net/ip_conntrack file once in a while. I do not wish to run this script as the root user. Default permissions for the file is: $ ls -lah /proc/net/ip_conntrack -r--r----- 1 root root 0 2010-03-28 12:18 /proc/net/ip_conntrack I can change it with: sudo chmod o+r /proc/net/ip_conntrack But that does not stick after a reboot. Is there some configuration file for file-permissions in the /proc directory in Ubuntu Server 9.10? Or do I just have to stick a chmod line in some startup script?

  When you create a (file system) share (on windows 2008R2) with access for specific users does it changes the access rights to the files to match the access rights to the share? We just killed our intranet web site when sharing the INetPub folder (to a few specified users). It removed the file access rights for authenticated users, i.e., the user could not log in using single signon (using IE & AD)! Could someone please tell me why it behaves like this? We now have to reapply the access right every time we change the users in the share killing the site in the process every time!

The error I'm receiving is: Failed to start service Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 184.106.146.125 for ServerName (99) Cannot assign requested address: make_sock: could not bind to address 50.56.33.100:8080 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs I edited my httpd.conf to point to the new IP address like such: #Listen 12.34.56.78:80 Listen 184.106.146.125:80 And looking at the error it still seems to be referring to the old ip address (50.*).

  I am running Arch Linux with Gnome 3. Unfortunately, although my time and date settings in /etc/rc.conf show that HARDWARECLOCK='UTC' and TIMEZONE='America/LosAngeles'. I continue to get the timezone of Europe/London. If I try to change the date and time via the GUI. It requires root access. After authorizing root access, the date and time may be changed; however, after closing the GUI window, it automatically reverts back to the previous incorrect timezone. I am able to use pool.ntp.org in order to sync my time to the correct one; however, this works only for the current session and is not fixed. This solution is inconvenient since there is not always network access. What other solutions are available for this problem?

  I have a network with DHCP enabled, and also a computer that dual boots operating systems and has different SSH keys on each (and yes, I would like to keep different keys on each rather than copying the same identity/private key to each). Because the IP address does not change between operating systems because the MAC address is the same, when connecting to ssh, even when not using the IP address but the hostname via DNS/mDNS, I get the warning: Warning: the RSA host key for 'hostname' differs from the key for the IP address '192.168.1.172' Offending key for IP in /Users/user/.ssh/known_hosts:37 Matching host key in /Users/user/.ssh/known_hosts:38 Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? How can I surpress the warning when the hostname differs from the IP address for that hostname, but retain the ability to check host keys are the same for each hostname? (each OS has a unique hostname)

  I have a SUSE Server to which ~300 users are connecting. About 100 of them have to be deactivated. I think it would be nice to change their shell to /bin/false either with chsh or with usermod. Do I have to type every command per line, or can I fill out a list of users which can be read from the script? I should mention that all of the 100 users have the same ending in their username. Can I work with wildcards here? e.g. usermod -s /bin/fish *ftpuser chsh -s /sbin/nologin *ftpuser

  I have a Thinkpad T430s. I found on other Thinkpads there's a beep when you plug or unplug the AC cord. While I hear a lot of people say it's annoying it seems like a very useful security feature. However, when I go into the Power Manager the option to beep on plugging/unplugging ("Power State Change Beep") isn't there, even though it's in the help file already. I know it would be easy to rig a software solution to this event, but it would kind of defeat the purpose if it doesn't beep when it's in sleep. Is there a way to get this beep on my laptop?

  If I install Winamp through automated means (e.g. Using http://ninite.com/), it is automatically installed using the default 'boxy' skin. I can't work out how to interface with this skin as easily as the new 'Bento' skin. In addition, there doesn't seem to be an option to download the Bento skin, or change the skin from Default to Bento without uninstalling and reinstalling it again. Is there a menu option or a downloadable skin that is the default Bento skin? Or do I have to re-install to get this 'new default' skin?

  I have created a user which has specific privileges to access the shares on our WD MyBookLive Network drive (ie it requires a password to connect), however after connecting once Windows seems to remember the password (or at least for the rest of the session). How can I make it so it is necessary to require a password every time the user connects to the drive or makes some change on Windows?   Iam a total newbie to Ubuntu . I installed Cinnamon through terminal . The problem is that when i boot up, if i don't enter the password before 1 or 2 minutes the password field will freeze and won't accept any text inputs.The problem was most likely caused by Cinnamon because i guess the problem started after i tried to install some Cinnamon extensions.   Is there any way to specify which monitor the console is displayed on in Linux? Details: I have a 3 monitor setup with 2 video cards. When I boot the computer, the BIOS displays on the PCI graphics card (which has a small monitor). When starting Linux, the console is displayed on the same monitor. Is there a way to have the console output on a different monitor? I'm using the vesafb framebuffer. I don't see a way in my BIOS to change the default video card.
