  • Using a macro for fstream file input as part of a class

    I have a class that processes a file, and as part of the constructor with one argument I want to input a file using fstream. I basically want it do something like this class someClass{ public: someClass(char * FILENAME) { fstream fileToProcess; fileToProcess.open(<FILENAME>, fstream::in | fstream::out | fstream::app); } }; I want to pass the filename in as an argument to the class constructor, and then the class someClass will access it with fstream.

    The code I'm working with has a class called Environment that is not in any namespace. Unfortunately if I am in a class that imports the System namespace, there is no way to refer to the custom class called Environment. I know this was an unfortunate choice and should be refactored, but is there any way I can explicitly refer to the conflicting class? In C++ it seems the way to do this is by using ::, and in Java there is something called global:: How do I do it in C#?

    I am having trouble writing C++ code that uses a header file designed for a C file. In particular, the header file used a variable name called class: int BPY_class_validate(const char *class_type, PyObject *class, PyObject *base_class, BPY_class_attr_check* class_attrs, PyObject **py_class_attrs); This works in C as class isn't taken as a keyword, but in C++, class is. So is there anyway I can #include this header file into a c++ file, or am I out of luck? Thank you.

    I'm trying to mock a class method with rspec: lib/db.rb class Db def self.list(options) Db::Payload.list(options) end end lib/db/payload.rb class Db::Payload def self.list(options={}) end end In my spec, I'm trying to setup the expectation Db::Payload.list will be called when I call Db.list: describe Db do before(:each) do @options = {} Db::Payload.should_receive(:list).with(@options) end it 'should build the LIST payload' do Db.list(@options) end end The problem is that I am always receiving the following error: undefined method `should_receive' for Db::Payload:Class Any help understanding this error would be most appreciated :-)

    I'm working on a program from my C++ textbook, and this this the first time I've really run into trouble. I just can't seem to see what is wrong here. Visual Studio is telling me Error: identifier "string" is undefined. I separated the program into three files. A header file for the class specification, a .cpp file for the class implementation and the main program file. These are the instructions from my book: Write a class named Car that has the following member variables: year. An int that holds the car's model year. make. A string that holds the make of the car. speed. An int that holds the car's current speed. In addition, the class should have the following member functions. Constructor. The constructor should accept the car's year and make as arguments and assign these values to the object's year and make member variables. The constructor should initialize the speed member variable to 0. Accessors. Appropriate accessor functions should be created to allow values to be retrieved from an object's year, make and speed member variables. There are more instructions, but they are not necessary to get this part to work.   • Is there a quasi-standard set of attributes to annotate thread safety, immutability etc.?

    Except for a blog post here and there, describing the custom attributes someone created, but that do not seem to get any traction - like one describing how to enforce immutability, another one on Documenting Thread Safety, modeling the attributes after JCIP annotations - is there any standard emerging? Anything MS might be planning for the future? This is something that should be standard, if there's to be any chance of interoperability between libraries concurrency-wise. Both for documentation purposes, and also to feed static / dynamic test tools. If MS isn't doing anything in that direction, it could be done on CodePlex - but I couldn't find anything there, either. <opinion>Concurrency and thread safety are really hard in imperative and object-languages like C# and Java, we should try to tame it, until we hopefully switch to more appropriate languages.</opinion>

  • C++: Declaration of template class member specialization

    When I specialize a (static) member function/constant in a template class, I'm confused as to where the declaration is meant to go. Here's an example of what I what to do - yoinked directly from IBM's reference on template specialization: ===IBM Member Specialization Example=== template<class T> class X { public: static T v; static void f(T); }; template<class T> T X<T>::v = 0; template<class T> void X<T>::f(T arg) { v = arg; } template<> char* X<char*>::v = "Hello"; template<> void X<float>::f(float arg) { v = arg * 2; } int main() { X<char*> a, b; X<float> c; c.f(10); // X<float>::v now set to 20 } The question is, how do I divide this into header/cpp files? The generic implementation is obviously in the header, but what about the specialization? It can't go in the header file, because it's concrete, leading to multiple definition. But if it goes into the .cpp file, is code which calls X::f() aware of the specialization, or might it rely on the generic X::f()? So far I've got the specialization in the .cpp only, with no declaration in the header. I'm not having trouble compiling or even running my code (on gcc, don't remember the version at the moment), and it behaves as expected - recognizing the specialization. But A) I'm not sure this is correct, and I'd like to know what is, and B) my Doxygen documentation comes out wonky and very misleading (more on that in a moment a later question).
