    I have a class which is essentially just holds a bunch of constant definitions used through my application. For some reason though, longs compile but floats do not: class MY_CONSTS { public : static const long LONG_CONST = 1; // Compiles static const float FLOAT_CONST = 0.001f; // C2864 }; Gives the following error: 1>c:\projects\myproject\Constant_definitions.h(71) : error C2864: 'MY_CONSTS::FLOAT_CONST' : only static const integral data members can be initialized within a class Am I missing something?

    I have the following c# classes: class A : Object { foo() {} } class B : Object { foo() {} } I want to write a generic method that applies to both: void bar<T>(T t) { t.foo(); } this does not compile complaining the foo() is not a member of T. I can add a constraint for T to derive from one of the classes: void bar<T>(T t) where T : A but how can I have it for both?

    When moving to Spring 2.5.x I found that it adds more stereotype annotations (on top of @Repository from 2.0): @Component, @Service and @Controller. How do you use them? Do you rely on implicit Spring support or you define custom stereotype specific functions/aspects/features? Or is it predominately for marking beans (compile time, conceptual, etc.)?

    We have developed an ASP.NET website on a Windows 7 - 32 bit platform using Visual Studio 2008. This website is being hosted at a hosting company where we share a server with hundreds of other ASP.NET websites. We are in the process of changing our hosting to a dedicated Windows 2008 - 64 bit server. We have installed Visual Studio on this new server in order to debug our application. If we try to start the application on this new server using Visual Studios 2008's own web server (not IIS 7) we get the error below. We have tried to compile the application in both 32 as well as 64 bit mode. We also tried to compile to "Any CPU". But nothing helps. We also tried running Visual Studio as an administrator but without success. We get the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. The specified module could not be found.   • Inconsistent syntax c# ?

    private string[] GetRoles() { string[] foo = {"Test"}; return foo; } The above compiles, but... private string[] GetRoles() { return {"Test"}; } Does not. Replacing it with: return new string[] { "Test" }; Will obviously compile though. Is this inconsistancy or am i being stupid, or am i just wrong :S.

    I've inherited a web site I'm editing in dotnet and it won't compile because the class in one file (say class1.vb) refers to a class in another file (say class2) (like Dim m_c As class2) , but the compiler says "Type Class2 is not defined". when I look in the object browswer the classes are listed separately (i.e. not all grouped under the same namespace) and appear as: Public Class Class1 Inherits System.Object Member of C:...\mywebsite\ Help!, thanks.

  • Why do we need to use out keyword while calling a method

    When a method is defined with an out parameter, why do I have to specify the out keyword when calling it. Its already there in the method definition, and the runtime should know that any parameter passed will be an out parameter. It would make sense if the compiler will accept the argument with or without out keyword, with different semantic, but if you MUST add the keyword to make the code compile, whats the use? I add a new property to a class in the class library, then, from the web app, I expect to be able to use it immediately w/o errors and with full intellisense. It used to work in 2008. When I compile the class library, it becomes available but not until. Was this nice feature taken away, perhaps in the interest of speed?

  • Difference between jruby AOT classes with --java flag and without

    When I compile a ruby file to a java class using jrubyc, I get different output when compiling with just jrubyc and with jrubyc --java (to generate the java file) and just javac. Why? Example: First Method: $ jrubyc --java myscript.rb $ javac -cp .:./jruby-complete.jar myscript.java Second Method: $ jrubyc myscript.rb I'd expect the generated classes to be exactly the same, but they're not. What's jrubyc doing under the covers? Thanks!
