  This is what was trying to do: $ wget -qO- www.example.com/script.sh | sh which quietly downloads the script and prints it to stdout which is then piped to sh. This unfortunately doesn't quite work, failing to wait for user input a various points, aswell as a few syntax errors. This is what actually works: $ wget -qOscript www.example.com/script.sh && chmod +x ./script && ./script But what's the difference? I'm thinking maybe piping the file doesn't execute the file, but rather executes each line individually, but I'm new to this kind of thing so I don't know.

• Accessing objects on one nib file from another nib file

  I have two nib files - Main.nib and Preference.nib In Main.nib file I have an instance of NSView class.Its window has a NSPopUpButton which on clicking shows a menu .In the menu I have show Preferences menu item. Menu item on clicking shows a preferences panel containing a color well item. On clicking color well a color panel is displayed to choose the color. The problem is how to apply that color to main application window. My preference panel window is in Preference.nib file. So problem is accessing NSView from another Nib Window. Is there a way so that I can make connection between preference panel and my main application window(NSView)

• Set sprite width or height without scaling it's children

  I am trying to dynamically change the width and height of a Sprite object, which is a container for other similar Sprite objects. The container object automatically changes it's size according to the size of it's children, but when I change the position of the children objects, the size of the container stays the same and it's children appear to be placed outside of the container. I tried to solve this problem by using something like this: if (container.width < (child.x + child.width)) { container.width = (child.x + child.width); } but when I use this code, the container object's children are scaled. Is there a way to change the container's size without scaling it's children?

  Hi, I have been monitoring the parameters a website receives when a file is uploaded (via an input type="file"). Surprisingly, the parameter and its value were looking like this : parameter: upfile value: filename="this is the name of the uploaded file.png" Content-type: image/x-png Now in this POST request to the server page, the file name and its type is passed into a parameter, but what about the path to that filename? Where is that path stored so that the server page can upload the file at the good location? Also, I would like to know if it would be possible by any way to specify a path, NOT to the input type="file" since its impossible, but to the server (though this question probably depends a lot on how the server-side page is scripted). • How to remove the file which has opened handles?

  PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"? Thanks.

  Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

I need the following question answered: How to remove cabability to create file or folder creation in NTFS that contains invalid characters? Can you remove the POSIX subsystem from Windows to fix this issue? How does disabling 8.3 dos name creation factor into this issue? Will any of these fixes prevent linux clients from creating windows compliant files?

• Do I really need to return Type::size_type?

  I often have classes that are mostly just wrappers around some STL container, like this: class Foo { public: typedef std::vector<whatever> Vec; typedef Vec::size_type; const Vec& GetVec() { return vec_; } size_type size() { return vec_.size() } private: Vec vec_; }; I am not so sure about returning size_type. Often, some function will call size() and pass that value on to another function and that one will use it and maybe pass it on. Now everyone has to include that Foo header, although I'm really just passing some size value around, which should just be unsigned int anyway ...? What is the right thing to do here? Is it best practice to really use size_type everywhere?

  I need to include a C header file in my C++ project but g++ throws "not declared in this scope" errors. I read that i need to use extern "C" keyword to fix it but it didn't seem to work for me. • Permission denied error when trying to install with wubi

  I run into problem when tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 on Windows 7 using wubi installer . It downloads the image for sometime and ends up with the error that says Permission denied: for more details see the log file In the log it seems to be like DownloadError: Problem connecting to tracker - urlopen error (10060, 'Operation timed out') but my network is good and I checked it. Tried using wubi several times, but ends up with same problem. • NEC uPD720200 USB 3.0 not working on Ubuntu 12.04

  I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on a HP Envy 15 1104tx. Most stuff appears to be working fine with the exception of the two USB3 ports (USB2 port works fine). I've read a lot of articles but so far have not been able to find a solution. I've tried adding 'pci=nomsi' to '/etc/default/grub' but this made no difference. Some articles suggest booting into Windows and upgrading the firmware on the uPD720200. Any body had any experience of this? Is there a way I can checked the firmware version of the NEC uPD720200 in Linux to see if there is an update available? • Windows file sharing with a private LAN when a public VPN is connected?

  OS: Windows Vista My LAN interface is configured as a "private network". I want to have all the sharing and discovery features (Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public Folder Sharing, Printer Sharing, Password Protected Sharing, and Media Sharing), so I enabled them all. My VPN interfaces are configured as "public networks", and I do NOT want to have any of the above features. Now the problem is that if I disabled these sharing features while a VPN is connected, it affects both interfaces. I guess the Network and Sharing Center is probably an oversimplified tool that may not support multiple interfaces. Where can I tell Windows to enable sharing features for the private networks and not the public networks? For file sharing, I think I can disable "File and Printer Sharing for MS Networks" in each of the VPNs' properties. However, I will need to disable it every time I add a new VPN. Moreover, I can't find how to disable Media Sharing by this way. If this can be more easily done in Windows XP or 7, please let me know.

Is there a method/program to run without the rigamarole FROM the Standard Users account on the workstation to edit/add a file association? I assume the program route would involve RunAs. I 'believe' most of the workstations run the RunAs service, but I could be wrong. I understand that's required, if there is to be a solution. Any help accepted with thanks.   I am teaching the course "Introduction in Programming" for the first-year students and would like to find interesting examples where the datatype size in bits, chosen by design, led to certain known restrictions or important values. Here are some examples: Due to the fact that the Bell teleprinter used 7-bit-code (later accepted as ASCII) until now have we often to encode attachments in electronic messages to contain only 7 bit data. Classical limitation of 32-bit address space leads to the 4Gb maximal RAM size available for 32-bit systems and 4Gb maximal file size in FAT32. Do you know some other interesting examples how the choice of the data type (and especially its binary length) influenced the modern IT world. Added after some discussion in comments: I am not going to teach how to overcome limitations. I just want them to know that 1 byte can hold the values from -127..0..+127 o 0..255, 2 bytes cover the range 0..65535 etc by proving examples they know from other sources, like the above-mentioned base64 encoding etc. We are just learning the basic datatypes and I am trying to find a good reference for "how large" these types are.

  I understand that in normal php if we're including a file we're merging the source of it in the script and it would take longer for that page to be parsed/processed but if we're using HipHop shouldn't it be ok to just create one single php file and include every file in it (that contains some class) and every page which needs those classes (in separate file each) can just include one single php file? Would this be ok in presence of HipHop?
