  Hi friends, I'm a newbie drupal... I'm working on my first Drupal project. I need to make an events page for some conferences. I create event content type, and creating fields like date-place-title-etc with CCK. There are also speakers, can be up to 20. each speaker has photo-namesurname-position. same speaker can be added to more than 1 event. So it is silly to create 60 fields (photo-name-position) for 20 speakers at event adding page. and expecting admin to fill all for an event adding action. there must be a way to create speakers additionally, and listing them at event adding page with checkboxes. and admin just select the speakers from the list, can be 1 or 20 speaker. how can create such thing? in what type should I create these speakers, so i can list them in event adding page for admin to select as many as he wants. • Scientific Data processing(Graph comparison and interpretation)

  Hi stackoverflow friends, I'm trying to write a program to automate one of my more boring and repetative work tasks. I have some programming experience but none with processing or interpreting large volumes of data so i am seeking your advice(both suggestions of techneques to try and also things to read to learn more about doing this stuff). I have a piece of equipment that monitors an experiment by taking repeated samples and displays the readings on its screen as a graph. The input of experiment can be altered and one of these changes should produce a change in a section of the graph which i currently identify by eye and is what im looking for in the experiment. I want to automate it so that a computer looks at a set of results and spots the experiment input that causes the change. I can already extract the results from the machine. Currently they results for a run are in the form of an integer array with the index being the sample number and the corresponding value being the measurement. The overall shape of the graph will be similar for each experiment run. The change im looking for will be roughly the same and will occur in approximatly the same place every time for the correct experiment input. Unfortunatly there are a few gotcha's that make this problem more difficult. There is some noise in the measuring process which mean there is some random variation in the measured values between different runs. Although the overall shape of the graph remains the same. The time the experiment takes varies slightly each run causing two effects. First, the a whole graph may be shifted slightly on the x axis relative to another runs graph. Second, individual features may appear slightly wider or narrower in different runs. In both these cases the variation isn't particularly large and you can assume that the only non random variation is caused by the correct input being found. Thank you for your time, Pinky

• Android: New app not showing on a sprint phone...

  I uploaded my app to the Android Market last week and people have been purchasing it with no problems. My carrier is T-Mobile. As soon as I uploaded my app to the Market I got on my phone (Nexus One), searched for it, and there it was - instantly! (Is that because I have a google phone?) My friends G1 found it instantly also. BUT, another friend has a Sprint Moment phone and when he tried to search for it - it just wasn't there - like it didn't exist. I then called T-Mobile and Sprint representatives and found some information that I didn't know. The Sprint dude said that Sprint goes to some sort of massive Android Market Database and that's how Sprint knows about new apps and is then able to list them. New apps are not instantly shown on Sprint phones, you have to wait till their database updates to Android's database. At least that is what I thought they were trying to say to me. Has anyone else come across this issue and/or does anyone know how long Sprint takes to update their database for new Android apps? Do other carriers follow these methods?

  i have a system there user(sender) can write a note to friends(receivers), number of receivers=0. Text of the message is saved in DB and visible to sender and all receivers then they login to system. Sender can add more receivers at any time. More over any of receivers can edit the message and even remove it from DB. For this system i created 3 tables, shortly: users(userID, username, password) messages(messageID, text) list(id, senderID, receiverID, messageID) in table "list" each row corresponds to pair sender-receiver, like sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_2_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_3_ID -- message_1_ID Now the problem is: 1. if user deletes the message from table "messages" how to automatically delete all rows from table "list" which correspond to deleted message. Do i have to include some foreign keys? More important: 2. if sender has let say 3 receivers for his message1 (username1, username2 and username3) and at certain moment decides to add username4 and username5 and at the same time exclude username1 from the list of receivers. PHP code will get the new list of receivers (username2, username3, username4, username5) That means insert to table "list" sender_x_ID -- receiver_4_ID -- message_1_ID sender_x_ID -- receiver_5_ID -- message_1_ID and also delete from table "list" the row corresponding to user1 (which is not in the list or receivers any more) sender_x_ID -- receiver_1_ID -- message_1_ID which sql query to send from PHP to make it in an easy and intelligent way? Please help! Examples of sql queries would be perfect!

• Using git (or some other VCS) at your company

  Some friends of mine and I were talking recently about version control, and how they were using VSS at their jobs, and were probably going to be moving off of that soon. One of them said that his company will likely be going with Team Foundation Server. Eventually, the conversation did get around to talking about some of the open source VCSes out there, including git and SVN. None of us really knew about any companies that use either of these internally, although we imagined that a number of them did so for SVN, but we weren't too sure about git. I brought up Google and Android using it, but my friend figured that's only for the public facing source code, and that they may use something different for internal projects. Apparently it's more than just SCM that makes TFS so intriguing: Microsoft Sales people and support (although my friend did point out somethings to his managers that he thought might be misleading on MS' part) Integration of things beyond SCM, including project management (I'm just finding out that there are geared towards the same things for git) Again, it's Microsoft, and the transition from VSS to TFS seems logical (or does it?) I'm not much of a fan of SVN, so I didn't really bring it up much, but I am curious about whether or not git is used at your company for internal projects. Have you thought about it, and decided against it? Any reason why?

• Android import project errors

  Hey everyone, I'm a beginner, so I'll try my best to explain this problem succinctly. Basically, a friend of mine and I were playing around with the Android SDK, editing a simple RSS reader. We could launch it in the emulator and even install it on our real devices. Fast forward a few days, I'm trying to import the exact same code that was working a few days earlier into Eclipse on my laptop. I tried both importing and new project from existing source. Both return these new errors that we never had originally. I got an error that involved the auto generated "R" file, but I have solved this. Now, I'm getting 3 errors that I have never had before - The method onClick(View) of type new View.OnClickListener(){} must override a superclass method - displayed twice ( 2 different lines) The method onTabChanged(String) of type new TabHost.OnTabChangeListener(){} must override a superclass method My question is this - What would cause the these discrepancies between importing/running on my friends computer and mine? Also, we are both using the latest version of Java/Eclipse Thanks in advance for any insight.

• Is long long in C++ known to be very nasty in terms of precision?

  The Given Problem: Given a theater with n rows, m seats, and a list of seats that are reserved. Given these values, determine how many ways two friends can sit together in the same row. So, if the theater was a size of 2x3 and the very first seat in the first row was reserved, there would be 3 different seatings that these two guys can take. The Problem That I'm Dealing With The function itself is supposed to return the number of seatings that there are based on these constraints. The return value is a long long. I've gone through my code many many times...and I'm pretty sure that it's right. All I'm doing is incrementing this one value. However, ALL of the values that my function return differ from the actual solution by 1 or 2. Any ideas? And if you think that it's just something wrong with my code, please tell me. I don't mind being called an idiot just as long as I learn something.

The Problem: 32 World Cup qualifiers split into 4 tiers by their Fifa ranking 8 entries Each entry is assigned 1 random team per tier Winner takes all :-) I wrote something that suffices yet is admittedly brute force. But, in my attempt to improve my Ruby, I acknowlege that this code isn't the most elegant solution around - So I turn to you, the experts, to show me the way. • How do i prevent my code from being stolen?

  What happens exactly when I launch a .NET exe? I know that C# is compiled to IL code and I think the generated exe file just a launcher that starts the runtime and passes the IL code to it. But how? And how complex process is it? IL code is embedded in the exe. I think it can be executed from the memory without writing it to the disk while ordinary exe's are not (ok, yes but it is very complicated). My final aim is extracting the IL code and write my own encrypted launcher to prevent scriptkiddies to open my code in Reflector and just steal all my classes easily. Well I can't prevent reverse engineering completely. If they are able to inspect the memory and catch the moment when I'm passing the pure IL to the runtime then it won't matter if it is a .net exe or not, is it? I know there are several obfuscator tools but I don't want to mess up the IL code itself. EDIT: so it seems it isn't worth trying what I wanted. They will crack it anyway... So I will look for an obfuscation tool. And yes my friends said too that it is enough to rename all symbols to a meaningless name. And reverse engineering won't be so easy after all.

• Centered DIV w/ width dependant on text, buffered by two divs that should fill the containing DIV

  I have been wracking my brains on this seemingly small issue the whole day. My web dev friends are baffled and I could not find a suitable answer in my search of this site and others (though, I could have missed it somewhere along the way). Here's the problem: 3 DIVS within one fixed-width container DIV The center DIV has text that will be different on other sites The center DIV needs to be centered, and no larger than the text it contains. This is what I'd like to end up with The basic HTMl: <div id="container" > <div id="left" ></div> <div id="center" >Text inside center should resize this block</div> <div id="right" ></div> </div> Below, I removed most of the styles I have tried. This CSS currently centers the DIV (if I set it as an inline block), but I need the other divs to fill the left and right space remaining: #container { width:750px; text-align:center; } #left { background-color:#E85355; } #center { background-color:#CDD7D7; display:inline-block; } #right { background-color:#65A8A6; } I've tried floating, no-wrap, overflow, etc. Thanks a million to whomever can offer some help! • Image is not displaying in email template on 2nd time forward

  Good day Friends, I've a mass mailing program with simple mail templates (HTML and few Images). I've a problem with image display. My clients are not getting images in the mail. Sometimes they get a mail with all the images, But if they forward the same email to someone else, they can’t get the images in forwarded mail. I really don’t know what’s happening with the approach., most of the cases the 2nd time forwarded mail is not showing the images properly. For example, consider I send a mail to client A, Here, Client A will get a mail with Images. Further, If Client A forward the same message to Person B then Person B is not getting Images in the Forwarded email. I’m using the following Approach to Embed an image in the mail template: StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(" <some html content> <img src=\"cid:main.png\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" usemap=\"#Map\"> </html content ends here>"); Attachment imgMain = new Attachment(Server.MapPath("main.png")); imgMain.ContentId = "main.png"; MailMessageObject.Attachments.Add(imgMain); Instead of attachment, I tried bypassing the Image path from server directly. • User submitted content filtering

  Hey all, Does anyone have any ideas on what could be used as a way to filter untrustworthy user submitted content? Take Yelp for instance, they would need to prevent competitors writing business reviews on their competitors. They would need to prevent business owners favourably reviewing their own business, or forcing friends/family to do so. They would need to prevent poor quality reviews from affecting a businesses rating and so on. I can't think what they might use to do this: Prevent multiple users from the same IP reviewing certain things Prevent business owners reviewing their own business (maybe even other businesses in the same categories as their own?) Somehow determine what a review is about and what the actual intentions behind it are Other than the first and second points, I can't think of any clever/easy way to filter potentially harmful reviews from being made available, other than a human doing it. Obviously for a site the size of Yelp this wouldn't be feasible, so what parameters could they take into consideration? Even with human intervention, how would anyone know it was the owners best buddy writing a fake review without knowing the people? I'm using this as an example in a larger study on the subject of filtering user content automatically. Does anyone have any ideas how these systems may work and what they take into consideration? • PHP, MySQL, Memcache / Ajax Scaling Problem

  I'm building a ajax tic tac toe game in PHP/MySQL. The premise of the game is to be able to share a url like mygame.com/123 with your friends and you play multiple simultaneous games. The way I have it set up is that a file (reload.php) is being called every 3 seconds while the user is viewing their game board space. This reload.php builds their game boards and the output (html) replaces their current game board (thus showing games in which it is their turn) Initially I built it entirely with PHP/MySQL and had zero caching. A friend gave me a suggestion to try doing all of the temporary/quick read information through memcache (storing moves, and ID matchups) and then building the game boards from this information. My issue is that, both solutions encounter a wall when there is roughly 30-40 active users with roughly 40-50 games running. It is running on a VPS from VPS.net with 2 nodes. (Dedicated CPU: 1.2GHz, RAM: 752MB) Each call to reload.php peforms 3 selects and 2 insert queries. The size of the data being pulled is negligible. The same actions happen on index.php to build the boards for the initial visit. Now that the backstory is done, my question is: Would there be a bottleneck in that each user is polling the same file every 3 seconds to rebuild their gameboards, and that all users are sitting on index.php from which the AJAX calls are made within the HTML. If so, is it possible to spread the users' calls out over a set of files designated to building the game boards (eg. reload1.php 2, 3 etc) and direct users to the appropriate file. Would this relieve the pressure? A long winded explanation; however, I didn't have anywhere else to ask. Thanks very much for any insight.

• To NOLOCK or NOT to NOLOCK, that is the question

  Hi all, This is really more of a discussion than a specific question about nolock. I took over an app recently that almost every query (and there are lots of them) has the nolock option on them. Now I am pretty new to SQL server (used Oracle for 10 years) but yet I find this pretty disturbing. So this weekend I was talking with one of my friends who runs a rather large ecommerce site (name will be withheld to protect the guilty) and he says he has to do this with all of his SQL servers cause he will always end in deadlocks. Is this just a huge short fall with SQL server? Is this just a failure in the DB design (mine is not 3rd level, but its close) Is anybody out there running an SQL server app without nolocks? These are issues that Oracle handles better with more grandulare recordlocks. Is SQL server just not able to handle big loads? Is there some better workaround than reading uncommited data? I would love to hear what people think. Thanks

• Which is the best license for Open Source project?

  Hi friends, I am a web developer, and i don't have enough knowledge in software licenses. I wish to publish some of my works. and i need to apply a licenses for that. My software/product is free of cost. But I have some restrictions on the distribution/Modification. Its free of cost.(but donations are acceptable ;-)) Source Code is freely available; that you can use, customize or edit/remove(but don't deviate the basic nature of the software). You don't have any permission to change the product name. There are some lib or class are and which is put into a folder caller "myname", you don't have the permission to rename "myname". You can contribute any additions modifications to my project, to the original source repository. (The contributors name/email/site link will be listed on the credit file). Don't remove the original author's name from the license. Put the license file or license code any where is in the project file or folder. You can redistribute this code as free or commercial. :) What you this, all these kinda restrictions are valid or ... ? For this, which license i want to use.

• What is the strangest programming language you have used?

  For me I think it has to be the scripting language of an old proprietary telephony platform I used in the early 2000s. The language itself was not so bad, but the fact that it was meant to be edited with a drag-and-drop GUI, which did not expose all the functionality I needed, was quite frustrating. I also remember having to manually implement many common functions, such as calculating the length of a string. Whenever I wanted to use "custom" or "advanced" functions, I had to edit the script files in a text editor, but as soon as I opened the files in the GUI again they were reformatted and restructured, which usually resulted in broken code. And, of course, this was an interpreted language, so I would not know it was broken until I actually ran it—oh, and did I mention that it did not run the same in the simulator as in the live environment? So, what is the strangest programming language or environment you have used, and why did you use it? Note that I'm interested in languages and environments that you have actually used for "real-world" situations, so Whitespace, Brainf***k and friends are not valid—unless you have used them for something "real", of course.

• Drupal 6: Creating "ON/OFF News Links" functionality for a block created with View Module.

  Hi friends, I'm a drupal newbie who needs some advice... I have a news list block at homepage, created with View Module. It is listing all added news' title and link. Everything is cool so far. Now I need to add an ON/OFF option at admin side for homepage news block. When the setting is ON, it will work as it is. When it is OFF, only the titles will be listed with no linking to news detail page. So, now where should I add this ON/OFF option? I have only add/edit/delete pages for each news, there is no common news page to add such option. Should I create an admin page with such ON/OFF option in? Also I think I need to create a db table to keep this ON/OFF status. and controlling this value at homepage block, if it is 1 or 0, and displaying links according to db value :/ it looks too long way Create db table Create an page with ON/OFF option in add php codes to update db for admin's choice get the db value in homepage block to display links, etc. is there any shorter, better way to do what I need? • When empty field comes, removed the row in the Grouped Table view in iPhone?

  Hi friends, I have displayed the datas in grouped table view. The data's are displayed in the table view from XML parsing. I have 2 section of the table view, the section one has three rows and section two has two rows. section 1 -> 3 Rows section 2 - > 2 Rows. Now i want to check, if anyone of the string is empty then i should remove the empty cells, so i have faced some problems, if i have removed any empty cell, then it will changed the index number. So how can i check, anyone of the field is empty?, Because some times more number of empty field will come, so that the index position will be change. So please send me any sample code or link for that? How can i achieve this?
