  • Accidentally Removed Permissions for the XP SP3 Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT! Workaround Please!

    This is Praveen and I am using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Build 2600. I had problems with using Microsoft Office 2010. It was keeping on saying, "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010". After seeing this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlookcontact/thread/6e9c3f2e-010a-4b74-b433-0c41548ee468?prof=required I thought of giving the Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, full access permissions for Everyone. I went to the registry, right-clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and clicked on Permissions. I added Everyone and gave Full Control to the ACL and clicked on Apply. Also I checked "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." After a long time, it said with an error, cannot replace for few entries. Now, the key, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no access to any user. My system is not starting up. Some of my friends asked me to try the Last Known Good Configuration. Even that did not work out. When I tried to open in the Safe Mode, I got only one driver to load and even that didn't load well. Another friend suggested me to put the Setup disk and reinstall the OS. I tried that and after completing the "Installing Device Drivers" part, when it started "Installing Network", the system is getting restarted. Now, the setup is also half way through and even if I open in Safe Mode to try System Restore, it popped up a message saying, "Setup cannot run under Safe Mode. Setup will restart now." and the system is restarting. All my official files and my software, which I developed for Registry Security, resides in my system now. I am unable to access the system and I want it to be working to submit the project, as the deadline is this week. I had no better solutions from elsewhere. Can anyone please help me out with this issue. If it is possible to open the registry editor's stored file from another system and restore the access permissions, I hope it would solve the problem.   • Disk performance below expectations

    this is a follow-up to a previous question that I asked (Two servers with inconsistent disk speed). I have a PowerEdge R510 server with a PERC H700 integrated RAID controller (call this Server B) that was built using eight disks with 3Gb/s bandwidth that I was comparing with an almost identical server (call this Server A) that was built using four disks with 6Gb/s bandwidth. Server A had much better I/O rates than Server B. Once I discovered the difference with the disks, I had Server A rebuilt with faster 6Gbps disks. Unfortunately this resulted in no increase in the performance of the disks. Expecting that there must be some other configuration difference between the servers, we took the 6Gbps disks out of Server A and put them in Server B. This also resulted in no increase in the performance of the disks. We now have two identical servers built, with the exception that one is built with six 6Gbps disks and the other with eight 3Gbps disks, and the I/O rates of the disks is pretty much identical. This suggests that there is some bottleneck other than the disks, but I cannot understand how Server B originally had better I/O that has subsequently been 'lost'. Comparative I/O information below, as measured by SQLIO. The same parameters were used for each test. It's not the actual numbers that are significant but rather the variations between systems. In each case D: is a 2 disk RAID 1 volume, and E: is a 4 disk RAID 10 volume (apart from the original Server A, where E: was a 2 disk RAID 0 volume). To be honest, I'm not even sure where to start on this one - never guessed it would be so much trouble to add a component right from the disk.     I've setup my new LAMP server on Rackspace Cloud and the Basic A, C and MX DNS setup is no problem. I need to add an SPF record for a project I am migrating over to this new server that allows emails from a 3rd party server and I can't seem to figure out how to do this. There doesn't seem to be an option to add a TXT record in my Rackspace Cloud Server interface and I installed the BIND DNS on my Apache server, but I am not sure how to get that to been seen, etc.

  • Options for an SFTP server on a Windows Machine

    We have a client who wishes to send files to us via SFTP (citing that FTP is inherently insecure). We have a Windows Environment (Windows 2003 Server). Currently, I'm reviewing copssh (OpenSSH for Windows, http://www.itefix.no/i2/copssh), and am looking for alternatives, or thoughts on copssh or any other SFTP option for Windows. The simpler to setup and administer, the better. I have never setup an SFTP host, before, so I'm curious what you all would recommend.

    I am planning on adding a Windows Server 2008 R2 box as a second domain controller for a client running an SBS 2003 R2 domain and have two questions. Are there any "gotchya's" involved in doing this, or do I just run ad and forest prep, promote the 2008 R2 box? How would CALs work with this setup? Would I need SBS 2008 CALs, Server 2008 CALs or would the old SBS 2003 CALs cover this setup? My thinking is I will only need Server 2008 CALs

But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product.     Hi, I have Adobe's PDF creator installed and I'm using Microsoft Project 2007... I want to print my gantt chart as one giant single-page PDF. (Currently it's set to print on letter sized paper, and it's six pages in a 3x2 layout.) I can't figure out where or how to make those settings. The PDF page setup doesn't seem to be right, nor "page setup" in Project. Help :-)

    I am doing some development that requires some interaction with an NNTP server, however I don't want to develop against a live server for obvious reasons and am trying to get a local NNTP server setup for testing, but for the life of me I can't find any guides on setting one up in (preferably) Windows 7. Can anyone shed some light? I've found that in IIS 6 you were able to setup an NNTP server, but I unfortunately do not have a 2003 VM at my disposal, I'm stuck with either XP or Windows 7. Thanks

I extracted them and found two files(there was some boot files too) : boot.wim install.wim I extracted the boot.wim with WinMount. But I can't extracting the install.wim Should I Burn the whole files(extracted and past files) into a DVD Or, Should I try to extract the install.wim ???? I searched Google, some forums and websites said that the setup.exe can extract the install.wim before starting the Installation.(I found the setup.exe after extracting the boot.wim)
