Sorting related objects in the Django Admin form interface

I am looking to sort the related objects that show up when editing an object using the admin form. So for example, I would like to take the following object: class Person(models.Model): first_name = models.CharField( ... ) last_name = models.CharField( ... ) hero = models.ForeignKey( 'self', null=True, blank=True ) and edit the first name, last name and hero using the admin interface. I want to sort the objects as they show up in the drop down by last name, first name (ascending). How do I do that? Context I'm using Django v1.1. I started by looking for help in the django admin docs, but didn't find the solution As you can see in the example, the foreign key is pointing to itself, but I expect it would be the same as pointing to a different model object. Bonus points for being able to filter the related objects, too (eg~ only allow selecting a hero with the same first name)

Figuring out Host's Top Domain with Javascript

Is there a way to figure out what the top domain for the hostname of the current page is? The problem I have is that the script could be on .com domain, or in an international domain like .co.uk So for: jobs.telegraph.co.uk - top domain is:telegraph.co.uk jobs.nytimes.com - top domain is nytimes.com The problem is that location.hostname , and the document.domain give the entire domain. One route is to have a list of all TLDs (too much to carry around) and parse based on that. Another route was if 2 characters after last ".", than internationaltion - hence last two are the TLD, but that does not hold true for all international domains.

Javascript working in Firefox but not in IE -

I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here? There's a comment line above the offending line, could that possibly be making a difference? //authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'; Check out the page yourself at http://www.imagineelection.com. Vertical line problem in the detail section of Crystal report

Hello, I have a little problem with the vertical lines in Detail section. In detail section at the end there is horizontal line. Also I have Report Footer section which displays total number of records. I suppressed Page Footer section. I would like end all the vertical lines to the last line of the records not to extend beyond the "Total"(Report Footer). It works fine if everything on the same page. The problem starts when the last line of the detail is on the first page and the "Total" wouldn't fit on the first page. It displays "Total" on the second page and it draws vertical lines to the end of the page. Thanks for any suggestion.

HTML, CSS: how can I merge these divs in order to use float:left property on their children ?

hi, I've 2 sets of thumbnails and in each set I'm displaying them one nearby each other in 4 columns using float:left. I would like to "merge" the 2 sets (but I cannot change the html code) because I want the thumbnails of the second set floating right after the last thumbnail of the first set. In other terms, if in the last row there are only 2 thumbnails and the last 2 columns are empty, the thumbnails of the second set should fill the empty columns of the last row of the first set. IE not showing jquery append() images

Ok, so i took John Raasch's slideshow script and modyfied it too dynamicly fetch images from folders on the server through ajax. The slideshow work like a charm in FF and Chrome but IE is not showing the images. And since IE's javascript debugging possibilities is close to none I cant figure out what is crashing. probelm with recv() on a tcp connection

Hi, I am simulating TCP communication on windows in C I have sender and a receiver communicating. sender sends packets of specific size to receiver. receiver gets them and send an ACK for each packet it received back to the sender. If the sender didn't get a specific packet (they are numbered in a header inside the packet) it sends the packet again to the receiver. How do I get the sequence of numbers in a sorted-set that are between two integers in clojure?

Say I have a sorted-set of integers, xs, and I want to retrieve all the integers in xs that are [x, y), ie. between x and y. I can do: (select #(and (>= % x) (< % y)) xs) But this is inefficient - O(n) when it could be O(log n), I expect the number of elements returned to be small. Using take-while and drop-while would let me exit once I've reached y, but I still can't jump to x efficiently. I am just learning clojure so here is how I would do it in C++: set<int>::iterator first = xs.lower_bound(x); set<int>::iterator last = xs.lower_bound(y); for (; first != last; ++first) // do something with *first Can I do this in clojure?

MediaWiki: workaround for watchlist restricted to 7 days?

I'm running MediaWiki 1.13.2. When I go to my watchlist, I'm limited to only viewing the last 7 days (though MediaWiki should permit me to view the last 30 days). I've tried: Clicking the all button Changing the URL Changing the settings under MY PREFERENCES-WATCHLIST. When I save (e.g. 30 days) it resets back to 7 days! Googling for an answer... Anyone heard of this bug before? Is there a workaround? I can't see a setting anywhere for this to be a maximum.

Is it bad practice to use Reflection in Unit testing?

During the last years I always thought that in Java, Reflection is widely used during Unit testing. Since some of the variables/methods which have to be checked are private, it is somehow necessary to read the values of them. I always thought that the Reflection API is also used for this purpose. Last week i had to test some packages and therefore write some JUnit tests. As always i used Reflection to access private fields and methods. But my supervisor who checked the code wasn't really happy with that and told me that the Reflection API wasn't meant to use for such "hacking". Instead he suggested to modifiy the visibility in the production code. Is it really bad practice to use Reflection? I can't really believe that

Viewstate seems to be hijacked inadvertently

Hi, we are using asp.net 2.x, we use session state stored in sql server, 2 web servers in loadbalance, iis6. our issue is that in the last 3 months we have had 2 cases where some one using our enquiry form has seen someone else's info e.g. first name and last name. We are not populating the form from objects in session so I have come to the conclusion that the second user has somehow received the viewstate from the first user, after that user has tried to submit and got an error e.g. has posted view state and returned the the same page and the other user has requested that page at the same time (must have been on the same server I am guessing if it is a viewstate issue). have any of you experienced this before? some questions mulling around in my head is how does the worker process know to retun view state to a unique request and how does it determine a unique request etc..

How do you revert a file to a revision within an integration in Perforce?

I have two branches, let's call them mainline and dev1. I regularly integrate a file from mainline to dev1. The last-but-one time I integrated the file, it was at revision 3 in mainline. The last time, it was at revision 5. Now for mysterious reasons lost to the sands of time, I want to work in dev1 with revision 4 of the file from mainline. Is that possible? I can't integrate it across as P4V complains that all revisions have already been integrated. I've tried right-click-get this revision on the revision graph, but that only updates which version of the file I have in mainline, not in dev1.

I am currently only logging in as the last one (username, localhost). Also, I have php which also uses the last ones login details. Should I disable the other ones? averaging matrix efficiently

in Python, given an n x p matrix, e.g. 4 x 4, how can I return a matrix that's 4 x 2 that simply averages the first two columns and the last two columns for all 4 rows of the matrix? e.g. given: a = array([[1, 2, 3, 4], [5, 6, 7, 8], [9, 10, 11, 12], [13, 14, 15, 16]]) return a matrix that has the average of a[:, 0] and a[:, 1] and the average of a[:, 2] and a[:, 3]. I want this to work for an arbitrary matrix of n x p assuming that the number of columns I am averaging of n is obviously evenly divisible by n. let me clarify: for each row, I want to take the average of the first two columns, then the average of the last two columns. So it would be: 1 + 2 / 2, 3 + 4 / 2 <- row 1 of new matrix 5 + 6 / 2, 7 + 8 / 2 <- row 2 of new matrix, etc. which should yield a 4 by 2 matrix rather than 4 x 4. thanks.

I'm just starting to learn F# using VS2010 and below is my first attempt at generating the Fibonacci series. What I'm trying to do is to build a list of all numbers less than 400. let fabList = let l = [1;2;] let mutable a = 1 let mutable b = 2 while l.Tail < 400 do let c = a + b l.Add(c) let a = b let b = c My first problem is that on the last statement, I'm getting an error message "Incomplete structured construct at or before this point in expression" on the last line. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. While this seems to be an obvious way to build the list in a fairly efficient way (from a c++/C# programmer), from what little I know of f#, this doesn't seem to feel to be the right way to do the program. Am I correct in this feeling?

Character problem at displaying the result of a query

I am not good at jsp but I wondered what can cause such a problem when every other strings are displayed well: a JSP file queries information of people by their name at Contact (MS Exchange). the query returns the full info of the person; and the first, last names are printed. Last names with apostrophes (Ex: O'reilly) aren't displayed at all. what can be possible solutions? Thanks in advance P.S. I know the way of asking is not suitable but, I need information from people who had such a problem before.

Checking for length of ul and removing an li element

I am trying to remove the last <li> element from a <ul> element only if it exceeds a particular length. Is there a shorter way to do this? Something like a "remove-if-length-greater-than-threshold" idea. I was thinking that maybe there is a way to do this using the live() function but I have no idea how.
