  • Gave a talk at SoCal Code Camp at USC today titled “Linq to Objects A-Z”

    - by dotneteer
I gave a talk at SoCal Code Camp on Linq to Objects. With careful categorization of Linq functions, I was able to cover the entire set of Linq functions in only 35 minutes. I was able to spend the rest time on demos. In my first demo, I show I was able to write a top 20 URL type of query using 4 lines of library code and 9 line of Linq code without tools like Log Parser. I also demonstrated that I only need to change 2 lines of code from querying a single log file to a whole directory of log files. It would be as simple to run the query against multiple servers in parallel. In my second demo, I discussed how to turn into graph depth-first-search (DFS) and breath-first-search (BFS) in the a Linq queryable problem. The class LingToGraph contains the only DFS and BFS code I ever have to write; the rest could be done the the lambda passed to the DFS or BFS calls. In future blogs, I will provide more details explanation of code. Links: Link to Powerpoint slides. Link to demos.

  • Mock a Linq to Sql EntityRef using Moq?

    - by Jeremy Holt
My datacontext contains a table named Userlog with a one to many relationship with table UserProfile. In class UserLog public UserProfile UserProfile { get {return this._UserProfile.Entity;} } In class UserProfile public EntitySet<UserLog> UserLogs { get{return this._UserLogs;} } { set {this._UserLogs.Assign(value); } How would I go about mocking (using Moq) UserLog.UserProfile without changing the autogenerated code? What I would like to do is something like: var mockUserLog = new Mock<UserLog>(); mockUserLog.Setup(c=>c.UserProfile.FirstName).Returns("Fred"); etc I can do this if I go into the designer.cs and make FirstName and UserProfile virtual, however I would like to do this in the partial class. Any ideas? Thanks Jeremy

  • Linq 2 Sql DateTime format to string yyyy-MM-dd

    - by Bogdan Maxim
Basically, i need the equivalent of T-SQL CONVERT(NVARCHAR(10), datevalue, 126) I've tried: from t in ctx.table select t.Date.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") but it throws not supported exception from t in ctx.table select "" + t.Date.Year + "-" + t.Date.Month + "-" + t.Date.Day but i don't think it's an usable solution, because i might need to be able to change the format. The only option I see is to use Convert.ToString(t.Date, FormatProvider), but i need a format provider, and I'm not sure it works either.

  • Update EntitySet<> LINQ to SQL references

    - by gtas
I know that when attaching an entity into a DataContext you have to also attach the related referenced objects manually too. While I'm attaching the EntityRef<'s everything works as expected and my entities are updated to the database. But i have noticed that a problem occurs while trying to attach the EntitySet<'s. I dont use rowversion columns so I'm attaching for every entity on the EntitySet< using original values. Tried just attaching AttachAll() the EntitySet< with no luck and no exception too. There is no exception but the update is not really happening. What am i missing?

Hello I've a xml file like: <starting> <start> <site>mushfiq.com</site> <site>mee.con</site> <site>ttttt.co</site> <site>jkjhkhjkh</site> <site>jhkhjkjhkhjkhjkjhkh</site> <site>dasdasdasdasdasdas</site> </start> </starting> Now I need to delete any ... and value will randomly be given from a textbox. Here is my code : XDocument doc = XDocument.Load(@"AddedSites.xml"); var deleteQuery = from r in doc.Descendants("start") where r.Element("site").Value == txt.Text.Trim() select r; foreach (var qry in deleteQuery) { qry.Element("site").Remove(); } doc.Save(@"AddedSites.xml"); If I put the value of first element in the textbox then it can delete it, but if I put any value of element except the first element's value it could not able to delete! I need I'll put any value of any element...as it can be 2nd element or 3rd or 4th and so on.... can anyone help me out? thanks in advanced!

  • LINQ: GroupBy with maximum count in each group

    - by polarbear2k
    Hi, I have a list of duplicate numbers: Enumerable.Range(1,3).Select(o => Enumerable.Repeat(o, 3)).SelectMany(o => o) // {1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3} I group them and get quantity of occurance: Enumerable.Range(1,3).Select(o => Enumerable.Repeat(o, 3)).SelectMany(o => o) .GroupBy(o => o).Select(o => new { Qty = o.Count(), Num = o.Key }) Qty Num 3 1 3 2 3 3 What I really need is to limit the quantity per group to some number. If the limit is 2 the result for the above grouping would be: Qty Num 2 1 1 1 2 2 1 2 2 3 1 3 So, if Qty = 10 and limit is 4, the result is 3 rows (4, 4, 2). The Qty of each number is not equal like in example. The specified Qty limit is the same for whole list (doesn't differ based on number). Thanks

  • vs2010 Linq to SQL -- adding an entity from my DBML

    - by Matt
I think I may be going crazy here... Anyways, I have a DBML with a table 'User' in it. Pretty simple stuff -- From within a class, I have the following: BusinessDataContext businessDataContext = new BusinessDataContext(); var user = new User(); user.FirstName = FirstName; user.LastName = LastName; user.MiddleInitial = MiddleInitial; user.DateCreated = DateTime.UtcNow; /* There's no businessDataContext.User.Add method -- There's a bunch of generic collection methods with the <> symbols (Aggregate, All, Any...) Am I just too tired and missing something basic or did something simple change with vs 2010? */ businessDataContext.SubmitChanges(); I think I really just need sleep. :-)

  • Cross-table linq query with EF4/POCO

    - by Basiclife
Hi All, I'm new to EF(any version) and POCO. I'm trying to use POCO entities with a generic repository in a "code-first" mode(?) I've got some POCO Entities (no proxies, no lazy loading, nothing). I have a repository(of T as Entity) which provides me with basic get/getsingle/getfirst functionality which takes a lambda as a parameter (specifically a System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) Now as I'm returning the simplest possible POCO object, none of the relationship parameters work once they've been retrieved from the database (as I would expect). However, I had assumed (wrongly) that my lambda query passed to the repository would be able to use the links between entities as it would be executed against the DB before the simple POCO entities are generated. The flow is: GUI calls: Public Function GetAllTypesForCategory(ByVal CategoryID As Guid) As IEnumerable(Of ItemType) Return ItemTypeRepository.Get(Function(x) x.Category.ID = CategoryID) End Function Get is defined in Repository(of T as Entity): Public Function [Get](ByVal Query As System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) As IEnumerable(Of T) Implements Interfaces.IRepository(Of T).Get Return ObjectSet.Where(Query).ToList() End Function The code doesn't error when this method is called but does when I try to use the result set. (This seems to be a lazy loading behaviour so I tried adding the .ToList() to force eager loading - no difference) I'm using unity/IOC to wire it all up but I believe that's irrelevant to the issue I'm having NB: Relationships between entities are being configured properly and if I turn on proxies/lazy loading/etc... this all just works. I'm intentionally leaving all that turned off as some calls to the BL will be from a website but some will be via WCF - So I want the simplest possible objects. Also, I don't want a change in an object passed to the UI to be committed to the DB if another BL method calls Commit() Can someone please either point out how to make this work or explain why it's not possible? All I want to do is make sure the lambda I pass in is performed against the DB before the results are returned Many thanks. In case it matters, the container is being populated with everything as shown below: Container.AddNewExtension(Of EFRepositoryExtension)() Container.Configure(Of IEFRepositoryExtension)(). WithConnection(ConnectionString). WithContextLifetime(New HttpContextLifetimeManager(Of IObjectContext)()). ConfigureEntity(New CategoryConfig(), "Categories"). ConfigureEntity(New ItemConfig()). ... )

For example: <configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> </configuration> When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box. here is the app.config: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <configuration> <configSections> </configSections> <connectionStrings> <add name="Projects.Properties.Settings.projectsConnectionString" connectionString="server=file-server;user id=root;database=projects" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" /> <add name="Projects.Properties.Settings.projectsBELO" connectionString="server=benitoldesk;user id=root;Password=ADMIN;persist security info=True;database=projects" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" /> <add name="projectsEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/projects.csdl|res://*/projects.ssdl|res://*/projects.msl;provider=MySql.Data.MySqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;server=file-server;User Id=root;database=projects;password=admin44ss04i)j0;Persist Security Info=True&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" /> </connectionStrings> <appSettings> <add key="SecurityKey" value="Benito Lopez Dominguez" /> <add key="ClientSettingsProvider.ServiceUri" value="" /> </appSettings> <system.web> <membership defaultProvider="ClientAuthenticationMembershipProvider"> <providers> <add name="ClientAuthenticationMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.ClientServices.Providers.ClientFormsAuthenticationMembershipProvider, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" serviceUri="" /> </providers> </membership> <roleManager defaultProvider="ClientRoleProvider" enabled="true"> <providers> <add name="ClientRoleProvider" type="System.Web.ClientServices.Providers.ClientRoleProvider, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" serviceUri="" cacheTimeout="86400" /> </providers> </roleManager> </system.web> </configuration>

  • deploying applications that use LINQ to Entities.

    - by Luiscencio
HI COMUNITY!!!! I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated.

  • LINQ-to-SQL: ExecuteQuery(Type, String) populates one field, but not the other

    - by Daniel Schaffer
I've written an app that I use as an agent to query data from a database and automatically load it into my distributed web cache. I do this by specifying an sql query and a type in a configuration. The code that actually does the querying looks like this: List<Object> result = null; try { result = dc.ExecuteQuery(elementType, entry.Command).OfType<Object>().ToList(); } catch (Exception ex) { HandleException(ex, WebCacheAgentLogEvent.DatabaseExecutionError); continue; } elementType is a System.Type created from the type specified in the configuration (using Type.GetType()), and entry.Command is the SQL query. The specific entity type I'm having an issue with looks like this: public class FooCount { [Column(Name = "foo_id")] public Int32 FooId { get; set; } [Column(Name = "count")] public Int32 Count { get; set; } } The SQL query looks like this: select foo_id as foo_id, sum(count) as [count] from foo_aggregates group by foo_id order by foo_id For some reason, when the query is executed, the "Count" property ends up populated, but not the "FooId" property. I tried running the query myself, and the correct column names are returned, and the column names match up with what I've specified in my mapping attributes. Help!

I'm trying to get all the sublists that don't inherit from a specified class and also get the parent/root list type. I can't quite figure out the syntax. Here's an example of the sort of thing I'm looking for. Thanks for any help you can give! public class Foo { public IList<Type> Bar { get; private set; } } List<Foo> test = new List<Foo>(); // Initialize, add values, etc. var result = from f in test from b in f.Bar where !b.IsSubclassOf(typeof(AnotherClass)) select f.GetType(), b

Right, starting to go crazy here. I have the following code: var query = (from c in db.Descendants("Customer") select c.Elements()); dgvEditCusts.DataSource = query.ToList(); In this, db relates to an XDocument.Load call. How can I get the data into the DataGridView? Just thought I should mention: it returns a completely blank dgv
