• Any way to not break on certain errors in Visual Studio 2010?

  I'm working on a VS2010 project where I'm using DataAnnotations on my objects to handle validation. However, this is sort of a pain in the butt while trying to do interactive debugging because it keeps pausing VS.Net on validation errors. Obviously, I want to break on some errors, but not these particular types. Am I out of luck and I just need to turn on and off my Break on All Errors setting? Or is there some way to tell VS to just ignore these when they happen? (these are errors generated via Validator.ValidateProperty calls.) Thanks

• MULTIPLE CRITERIA TABLE JOIN

  I have a table listing clothing items (shirt, trousers, etc) named . Each item is identified with a unique CLOTHING.CLOTHING_ID. So a blue shirt is 01, a flowery shirt is 12 and jeans are 07 say. I have a second table identifying outfits with a column for shirts, for trousers, shoes etc. For example Outfit 1: shirt 01, trousers 07 (i.e. blue shirt with jeans) Outfit 2: shirt 12, trousers 07 (so flowery shirt with jeans). This table is named and each outfit is unique with OUTFIT_LIST.OUTFIT_ID. I want to produce a select statement that will list each outfit's contents, i.e. find the clothing specified in Outfit 1. Any help would be very much appreciated, and apologies in advance if I am missing a very simple solution. I have been playing with JOINS of all descriptions and CONCATS and so on with now luck - I am very new to this. Thanks.

• Most effecient way to create a "slider" timeline in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript?

  Alright, so here's my dilemma. I've got these two "slides" lined up, one ready to be passed into view. I have it working and all, but I can scroll over to the right to see the second slide! How could I have it you can only view the one slide? But. If you reload, you can see that you can scroll to the right of the screen and view the second slide prematurely, which is just not going to work for me. I still need to achieve the same seamless transition, but you must only be able to view one slide at a time. Also, I plan to expand with more slides, so if you're feeling lucky today, I'd really love to see an example of how I could support multiple frames. I'm very new to JavaScript (yet I know syntax rules, and general coding knowledge from other languages), so the better you explain, the more knowledgeable I can be, and I'd be very grateful for that. • Using different validation rules based on user input.

  I have a simple form: a combobox and a textbox. My combobox has 2 values: A and B. When value A is selected I want textbox to use a validation rule. When value B is selected there should be no validation rules applied to the textbox. I've read an article that has a solution and I'm trying to use it, but had no luck so far, and I think there might be a more elegant solution. Has anyone done anything like this before? Any ideas are highly appreciated.

• PHP - ftp_get only works once

  I'm connecting to an ftp server that I have no control over, and I'm pretty sure is using something old and outdated due to other issues I've run into. I'm simply using this code in a loop to get all the files in a directory. ftp_put($this->conn_id, $remote, $local, FTP_ASCII); The first time all goes well, but after that I get this error thrown for each file I try to get: "There is already an active transaction" I've tried both passive & active with no luck. It's the exact same code I use to connect to other FTP servers and get files with no problem. Any ideas? I suppose my last resort could be disconnecting and reconnecting for each file, but that seems like a huge waste.

• how to put .properties file in classpath of an Eclipse plug-in

  Hi. I have an application which is making use of a .jar file and a .properties file which must reside in the same directory as where the .jar file lies. On a normal java application, this works fine, however I'm building an Eclipse plug-in. I've tried attaching the .properties everywhere, in the classpath, build path, putting them in the same folder and calling the jar file from there (this gives an obsure error) and I've even tried putting the .properties file inside the .jar file even.... but no luck. • Singleton pattern with Web application, Not a good idea!!

  Hi I found something funny, I notice it by luck while I was debugging other thing. I was applying MCP pattern and I made a singleton controller to be shared among all presentations. Suddenly I figured out that some event is called once at first postback, twice if there is two postback, 100 times if there is 100 postbacks. because Singleton is based on a static variable which hold the instance, and the static variable live across postbacks, and I wired the event assuming that it will be wired once, and rewired for each postback. I think we should think twice before applying a singleton in a web application, or I miss something?? thanks

  I would like to define tasks using NSDictionary, which I'd like to save in a plist file (I didn't have much luck with Core Data so far), but got stuck at two points: -- When using initWithObjectsAndKeys: I can change the data type to number or boolean, using NSDate's numberWithInt: and numberWithBool: methods, respectively. I can't seem to find the method to change the type to date though. I couldn't find anything like that in the documentation. -- The second problem I ran into was with the nested arrays. • How to compare 2 pdf files using command line or any tool

  I have to compare 2 pdf files and check if they are same or different. I have tried my luck with WinMerge and Beyond compare. however they dont solve my issue. The issue is that there are 2 files which are exactly same except for the time in which they were saved. I have a piece of code that embeds the time of saving into the file. but i am not supposed to do any modifications to the code I have. Hence the above mentioned tools will say that the files dont match and There is just one difference, that is timestamp. Can anyone suggest me a way to handle this. Please. Thanks

  Been searching for an answer to this for the better part of an hour without much luck. I have two regional tables laid out with the same column names and I can put out a result list for either table based on the following query (swap Table2 for Table1): SELECT Table1.YEAR, FORMAT(COUNT(Table1.id),0) AS Total FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.variable='Y' GROUP BY Table1.YEAR Ideally I'd like to get a result that gives me a total sum of the counts by year, so instead of: | REGION 1 | | REGION 2 | | YEAR | Total | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 5 | | 2010 | 1 | | 2009 | 2 | | 2009 | 3 | | | | | 2008 | 4 | I'd have: | MERGED | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 6 | | 2009 | 5 | | 2008 | 4 | I've tried a variety of JOINs and other ideas but I think I'm caught up on the SUM and COUNT issue. • Gradient boosting predictions in low-latency production environments?

  Can anyone recommend a strategy for making predictions using a gradient boosting model in the <10-15ms range (the faster the better)? I have been using R's gbm package, but the first prediction takes ~50ms (subsequent vectorized predictions average to 1ms, so there appears to be overhead, perhaps in the call to the C++ library). As a guideline, there will be ~10-50 inputs and ~50-500 trees. The task is classification and I need access to predicted probabilities. I know there are a lot of libraries out there, but I've had little luck finding information even on rough prediction times for them. The training will happen offline, so only predictions need to be fast -- also, predictions may come from a piece of code / library that is completely separate from whatever does the training (as long as there is a common format for representing the trees).

  Hi, I have been scouring the internet for a way to do this with no luck :( Basically, it's easy to make a form in HTML with a submit button and some data, and send it to a URL. With this you send the POST data and also the user is taken to the page. I know you can send POST data using cURL and get a response back in PHP but how do I take the user there, I need to simulate exactly what a tag does in php. Some sample code or links would be great! • Dispatching generic tasks in WCF or .Net Remoting

  Hello all, I've been researching for a couple days on and off, and have yet to figure out the best way to achieve the following goal. I would like to define either an interface or abstract class in C# which has an associated Run method, similar to the Java runnable interface. The goal would be to have a shared queue which contains a list of these objects. Then individual clients would be able to derive their own concrete runnable classes and add them to the queue hosted by the server. Clients would also be able to pop these runnable objects off the queue and execute them arbitrarily. This seems like it should be feasible in a VM based language without needing to place any of the concrete implementations in a shared assembly, but I have thus far had no luck finding a working example of such a system. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?

• How do you keep the value of global variables (namely a struct variable) between postbacks?

  I'm new to this and have already searched for this with not much luck :( Lets say I have defined a struct array globally and filled the array with data on an Ajax ModalPopupExtender. I then have a ddl_SelectedIndexChanged event that does a postback and seems to recycle my array. Is there a way to fire the ddl_SelectedIndexChanged event to perform some code without doing a postback? Or is there an easy way to make the array of type struct retain it's values? • Reboot windows machines at a certain time of day and automatically login with Python

  I know how to reboot machines remotely, so that's the easy part. However, the complexity of the issue is trying to setup the following. I'd like to control machines on a network for after-hours use such that when users logoff and go home, or shutdown their computers, whatever, python or some combination of python + windows could restart their machines (for cleanliness) and automatically login, running a process for the night, then in the morning, stop said process and restart the machine so the user could easily login like normal. I've looked around, haven't had too terribly much luck, though it looks like one could do it with a changing of the registry. That sounds like a rough idea though, modifying the registry on a per-day basis. Is there an easier way?

• Problem with the row count transform

  Hi, I currently deployed an SSIS package (Developed on the 2005 version) (developed on my local server) in a pre production environment for testing. I have used the Row count transform to get a count of good/bad records. It works fine on my local system . However when i deploy this on the pre prod server, the row count does not work! (as in it does not recognize the vairbales i have assigned to the relevant transofm - no drop down abvaliable in the variables attribute part. tried deleting and adding a new transoform.. no luck. Strangely this does not work for any of the other packages also present/deployed on the same server (tried this out by dropping an rc tramsform onto an existing package... same problem) Any suggestions? • Python: Matching & Stripping port number from socket data

  Hello, I have data coming in to a python server via a socket. Within this data is the string '<port>80</port>' or which ever port is being used. I wish to extract the port number into a variable. The data coming in is not XML, I just used the tag approach to identifying data for future XML use if needed. I do not wish to use an XML python library, but simply use something like regexp and strings. What would you recommend is the best way to match and strip this data? I am currently using this code with no luck: p = re.compile('<port>\w</port>') m = p.search(data) print m Thank you :)

• My company is a Rackspace Cloud client (provided to us for free) and I'm trying to find some way to set up version control

  As the title says, my (small) business is provided a free Rackspace Cloud client account. We receive a decent amount of traffic but I haven't been able to put together a business case to move to our own server yet. However, we are developing some complex apps and I'm frustrated with not having the ability to even ssh into the remote server. Ultimately, I'd like to set up some sort of version control (at this point, I'll take anything, git or otherwise). I have control over databases, can FTP, set up cron jobs, and perform a few other basic functions. I can't think of any way to set up git or something similar without ssh access. A thought went through my mind that maybe some sort of PHP version control exists that I might be able to set up, but I haven't had any luck finding it yet. Do you guys have any ideas, thoughts, or advice?

• Solr authentication possible? (or apache port authentication would also work)

  Currently anybody can access the solr admin page by going to my_ip:8983/solr I can't have it like that, so how can I make it prompt for password or something? I have setup my servers apache2.conf file to prompt for password whenever my site is accessed by www.mydomain.com. But when using another port, the "require password" wont show up. Any ideas how to secure this? Don't point me to the SolrSecurity wiki because it's simply too outdated. I have tried it without luck. Thanks
