  • Will the MacBook Pro Early 2011 work better with Ubuntu than the Air Late 2010?

    I got this late 2010 11" MacBook Air. I'm having issues with NVIDIA graphics, especially with GNOME Shell. I'm thinking about selling this to switch to the new MacBook Pro, particularly the entry level 13" (see specs here), because of the Intel HD Graphics 3000. I assume that it will be more FOSS-friendly. I just want to point out that there are non-negotiable reasons why I'm keeping an Apple hardware at the moment, so let's keep this on topic. Will the MacBook Pro Early 2011 work better with Ubuntu than the Air Late 2010? Any other factors than the graphics hardware? Should we expect better NVIDIA graphics anytime soon?

  • Strategy in exporting to Excel with formatting from ASP.NET?

    So this is another exporting to Excel question. I have a page that has a table with formatting by stylesheet. When I export the page by setting the ContentType to application/excel and Content-Disposition to attachment, I can export the table to Excel (not CSV). However, it loses all formatting. I think it's because Excel does not load CSS and I guess that's reasonable. So, in a scenario where I have to show the table on the web and also export to Excel, both with similar (even if not exact) formatting, what would be the best approach without using something like NPOI? I am trying to minimize the work and keep the single template if possible. Is it necessary for me to create two separate templates: one with stylesheet, the other with embedded style in the table itself for Excel? Having a single template with conditional formatting inside would be very messy. Any ideas?

    I have 3 arrays of data, that are filled by reading off of an excel sheet, some of the points of data are missing and as such have just been entered into excel as "NA" so I want to look through my array and find each instance of these NA's and remove them from the array since the information is useless. I need to update all three arrays at the same time.     I have some "clever" users who have written an excel spreadsheet that automates some of their tasks on our intranet/timesheet. It seems as if the instance of Internet Explorer that is created is not doing everything I expect a browser to do, e.g. set cookies. Is there a way to detect if a user is hitting a web site with a VBA com object instance of Internet Explorer? I can't keep users from building creative solutions but I want to be able to handle them. thanks
