  • Receiving and processing SMS messages through a script?

    I am attempting to setup a system to receive and process SMS messages automatically. The system is intended for use in a context (an unfunded migrant workers' union in India) where both finances and sysadmin skills are extremely constrained (I would be the only person, in the near future, who would be administering the system). The intention is to make some functions - registration of members, generation of ID cards, communication of alerts and other information - easier. However, for receiving and sending SMS, I have not been able to find any email to SMS or other kind of gateway that functions in India. Perhaps there is one (edit: apparently Clickatell does have an India service, but the prices appear astronomical). If not, can one rely on a USB mobile modem (such as those provided by many mobile providers in India)? It seems like, with utilities such as gammu or bitpim, SMS operations on such a modem could be scripted. Is this actually feasible, though?   • How to make a streaming server to stream media from computer to mobile phone in wifi?

    Usually we have many HD movies in our computer, but we want to see them by our mobile phone. This requirement produces some questions: 1?the HD videos are too big to transfer to phone timely and it it hard to play on phone smoothly, so we have to transform the videos smaller and fit the screen of phone. 2?the coded format of the videos are varied, but limited types are supported by mobile phone, so we should transform the coded format to those supported by mobile phone. I've leaned the streaming media fit this problem, what I want is: 1?are there any good opensource projects fit this(ffmpeg?live555? darwin?)? 2?are they quick enough to transform coded format and transfer to mobile phone to play with no delay?   • GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 Maven Coordinates

    GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 was released a few weeks ago. This micro release fixed a couple of important bugfixes - one in JAX-WS (JAX-WS-1059) and another one related to JK listener with Apache + mod_ajp_proxy (GLASSFISH-18446). This release is already integrated in NetBeans 7.2 and you can download separately from here. Maven coordinates for this build are now also described on the download page. The following fragment in your pom.xml will allow you to invoke embedded-glassfish:run, embedded-glassfish:deploy, and other similar commands. <dependency>    <groupId>org.glassfish.embedded</groupId>     <artifactId>maven-embedded-glassfish-plugin</artifactId>     <version>3.1.2.2</version> </dependency> GlassFish Embedded Server Guide provide more details about setup etc. Similarly full platform or Web profile implementation of GlassFish can be included as a single JAR using <dependency>    <groupId>org.glassfish.main.extras</groupId>    <artifactId>glassfish-embedded-web</artifactId>    <version>3.1.2.2</version></dependency> Of course, you need to replace "glassfish-embedded-web" with "glassfish-embedded-all" to get complete platform.  The download page provide more details different bundles and complete maven coordinates.   • At what point is it worth using a database?

    I have a question relating to databases and at what point is worth diving into one. I am primarily an embedded engineer, but I am writing an application using QT to interface with our controller. We are at an odd point where we have enough data that it would be feasible to implement a database (around 700+ items and growing) to manage everything, but I am not sure it is worth the time right now to deal with. I have no problems implementing the GUI with files generated from excel and parsed in, but it gets tedious and hard to track even with VBA scripts. I have been playing around with converting our data into something more manageable for the application side with Microsoft Access and that seems to be working well. If that works out I am only a step (or several) away from using an SQL database and using the QT library to access and modify it. I don't have much experience managing data at this level and am curious what may be the best way to approach this. So what are some of the real benefits of using a database if any in this case? I realize much of this can be very application specific, but some general ideas and suggestions on how to straddle the embedded/application programming line would be helpful. Thanks

    There might have been a restriction on originating (making) calls (voice or data) from mobile phones without an explicit user permission i.e. a window would pop-up, asking the user to press 'Yes'/approve or 'No'/cancel for a call attempt made by a software application on that cellphone/mobile. There seems though to exist API for making calls, voice calls and data calls, on various embedded OS like WM, Symbian and Android. Do they require a user button-press then?

  • MVC4 dynamically changing master layout page doesn't work on first load

    I have an MVC4 mobile project that I want to add a desktop (non mobile) page to for some users. I have added a new desktop master page and assigned my view to use it. The first time I navigate to the page it renders using jquerymobile which appears to somehow be cached from the previous screen. If I hit F5 to refresh the page it displays using the assigned desktop masterpage correctly. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Any insight appreciated

    Hi, The iPhone has a functionality that when a google maps URL is typed into (or linked) the mobile browser it will open the Google Maps app instead of displaying it in the mobile browser. Now I'm wondering if that same functionality exists for say a Nokia (Symbian) phone? Is there a way to set up the link to open the Google maps app on the Symbian phone?

    I have an application that uses the Process class, StandardInput, and StandardOutput to communicate with an external executable. I am using this to pass strings back and forth, and it works well in my Windows application. On the mobile device, I do not see StandardInput or StandardOutput in the Process class. Is there an easy way to replicate this functionality on the Mobile?

  • ActiveSync File Explorer alternative

    Is there an alternative to the ActiveSync "Explore" for looking at the file system of a Windows Mobile device? (This same thing can also be accessed from My Computer - Mobile Device). It would be nice if you could just navigate into the device and view or edit files without having to copy them back and forth from the PC. Why does it work this way in the first place? Is the Explore view sort of a "virtual" version of your phone's file system that cannot be edited directly?

The app could either be a stand alone app installed on the mobile phone than could click snaps at predefined intervals or if there is a app that I can install on my PC and then control my phone's camera via bluetooth or wifi or anything else.     Hi, I'm looking for a way to minimize the net traffic use with my netbook mobile internet connection. Recently I managed to install Opera Mini on the XP and the opera approach of compressing the data helped a lot. But I would like to do the same with my favorite browser using http proxy that compress the data "on the fly". But searching for "compression proxy servers" I could not find any working host/port links. Is it a brand-new technology and therefore expensive or rarely available?
