  • Oracle ODP.NET und Windows PowerShell

    In der Microsoft Welt wohlbekannt, in der Oracle Welt nur ein Schulterzucken hervorrufend - die sogenannten Scripting Guys. Wie der Name bereits vermuten lässt, geht es in deren Hey, Scripting Guy! Blog um Scripting. Und damit natürlich um die Windows PowerShell. Ja, die Zeiten des DOS-Kommandofensters und Batch-Dateien ist vorbei. Die PowerShell ist eine mächtige Scripting-Umgebung unter Windows, die selbst unter Unix/Linux-Administratoren Gefallen finden sollte. Dass man damit wunderbar auch auf Oracle Datenbanken zugreifen kann, haben wir bereits vor Jahren in einer Oracle Workshop Reihe bewiesen. Damals begleitete mich Klaus Rohe von Microsoft, der mit mir dann auch gemeinsam einen Vortrag auf DOAG Konferenz hielt. Unser gemeinsames Ziel war es damals wie heute, die Oracle Anwender von der hervorragenden Integration zwischen Oracle, Windows und .NET zu überzeugen. Was lag näher, als sich dies von beiden Herstellern gemeinsam bestätigen zu lassen? Vor allem die ewigen Zweifler begrüßten dies. Seither war die PowerShell bei mir nicht mehr auf dem Radar und auch Oracle Anwender haben das Thema nicht mehr aufgeworfen. Möglicherweise auch deshalb, weil es zu neu oder zu unbekannt ist? Eher unwahrscheinlich ... Vielleicht liegt es vielmehr daran, dass man einfach mal davon ausgeht, dass PowerShell nur für Microsoft Produkte richtig nutzbar ist? Oder man bekommt erzählt, dass nur die Integration mit der Microsoft-eigenen Datenbank SQL Server möglich ist? Und das ist natürlich nicht richtig - so wie immer (ich denke dabei unter anderem an das Microsoft Active Directory - aber dazu ein andermal mehr). Umso mehr freut es mich, einen brandneuen Blog-Beitrag zu genau diesem Thema zu lesen, auf den mich Alex Keh, (Produkt Manager für Windows und .NET im Oracle Headquarter in San Francisco) aufmerksam gemacht hat. Was die Sache noch besser macht, dieser Beitrag stammt aus der Microsoft Welt und belegt damit zwischen den Zeilen, dass die Oracle Datenbank und unsere .NET Integration via dem Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET) auch hier eine bedeutende Rolle spielt. In diesem Sinne: Beide Daumen hoch für die Scripting Guys!   • Oracle releases new Java Embedded products

    With less than one week to go to JavaOne 2012, we've spiced things up a little by releasing not one but two net new embedded Java products. This is an important step towards realizing the vision of Java as the standard platform for the Internet of Things that I outlined in a recent blog post. The two new products are: Java ME Embedded 3.2. Based on same code as the widely deployed Oracle Java Wireless Client for feature phones, this new product provides a Java ME implementation optimized for very small microcontroller-based devices and adds - among other things - a new Device Access API that enables interaction with peripherals common in edge devices such as various types of sensors. In addition to the new Java ME Embedded platform, we have also released an update of the Java ME SDK which adds support for the development of small embedded devices. Java Embedded Suite 7.0. This is an integrated middleware stack for embedded devices, incorporating Java SE Embedded and versions of JavaDB, GlassFish and a Web Services stack optimized for remote operation and small footprint. A typical Internet of Things (or M2M) infrastructure contains three types of compute nodes: The edge device which is typically a sensor or control point of some kind. These devices can be connected directly to a backend through a mobile network if they are installed in - for example - a remote vending machine; or, they can be part of a local short-range network and be connected to the backend through a more powerful gateway device. A gateway is the second type of compute node and acts as an aggregator and control point for a local network. A good example of this could be a generalized home Internet access point, or home gateway. Gateways are mostly using normal wall power and are used for multiple applications, deployed by multiple service providers. Finally, the last type of compute node is the normal enterprise or cloud backend. Java ME Embedded and Java Embedded Suite are perfect base software stacks for the edge devices and the gateway respectively, providing the Java promise of a platform independent runtime and a complete set of libraries as well as allowing a programmer to focus on the business logic rather than plumbing. We are very thrilled with these new releases that open up exciting opportunities for Java developers to extend services and enterprise applications in ways that will make organizations more efficient and touch our daily lives.   • Creating Custom validation rule and register it

A validation rule is a piece of code that performs some check ensuring that data meets given constraints.In an enterprise application development environment, often it might require developers to have validation be performed based on some logic at several places across projects. Instead of redundant validation creation, a custom validation rule provides a library with a validation rules that can be registered and used across applications.A custom Validation is encapsulated in a reusable component so that you do not have to write it every time when you need to do input validation. Here is how we can easily implement a custom validation that checks for name of an employee to be "KING" For creating a custom Validation , 1.         Create Generic Application Workspace "CustomValidator" with the project "Model" 2.         Create an BC4J based on emp table. 3.         Create a custom validation rule.In EmpNamerule class, update the validateValue(..) method as follows:  public boolean validateValue(Object value) { EntityImpl emp = (EntityImpl)value; if(emp.getAttribute("Ename").toString().equals("KING")){ return false; } return true; } Create ADF Library: Next step would be to create ADF library. Create ADF library with name lets say testADFLibrary1.jarRegister ADF Library Next step is to register the ADF library , so that its available across the applications. Invoke the menu "Tools -> Preferences"Select the option "Business Components -> Registered Rules" from left paneClick on button "Pick Library". The dialog "Select Library" comes up with  the user library addedAdd new library' that points to the above jarCheck the checkbox "Register" and set the name for the rule Sample UsageHere is how we can easily implement a validation rule that restrict the name of the employee not to be "KING".Create new Application with BC4J based on EMP table.Create new validation under Business rule tab for Ename & select the above custom validation rule.Run the AppModule tester.

  • Django FormWizard with dynamic forms

    I want to implement a simple 2 part FormWizard. Form 1 will by dynamically generated something like this: class BuyAppleForm(forms.Form): creditcard = forms.ChoiceField(widget = forms.RadioSelect) type = forms.ChoiceField(widget = forms.RadioSelect) def __init__(self,*args, **kwargs): user = kwargs['user'] del kwargs['user'] super(BuyAppleForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) credit_cards = get_credit_cards(user) self.fields['creditcard'].choices = [(card.id,str(card)) for card in credit_cards] apple_types= get_types_packages() self.fields['type'].choices = [(type.id,str(type)) for type in apple_types] This will dynamically create a form with lists of available choices. My second form, I actually want no input. I just want to display a confirmation screen containing the credit card info, apple info, and money amounts (total, tax, shipping). Once user clicks OK, I want the apple purchase to commence. I was able to implement the single form way by passing in the request.user object in the kwargs. However, with the FormWizard, I cannot figure this out. Am I approaching the problem wrong and is the FormWizard not the proper way to do this? If it is, how can the Form __init__ method access the user object from the HTTP request?

  • Displaying Exceptions Thrown or Caught in Managed Beans

    Just came a cross a sample written by Steve Muench, which somewhere deep in its implementation details uses the following code to route exceptions to the ADF binding layer to be handled by the ADF model error handler (which can be customized by overriding the DCErrorHandlerImpl class and configuring the custom class in DataBindings.cpx file) To route an exception to the ADFm error handler, Steve used the following code ((DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry()).reportException(ex); The same code however can be used in managed beans as well to enforce consistent error handling in ADF. As an example, lets assume a managed bean method hits an exception. To simulate this, let's use the following code: public void onToolBarButtonAction(ActionEvent actionEvent) {    throw new JboException("Just to tease you !!!!!");        } The exception shows at runtime as displayed in the following image: Assuming a try-catch block is used to intercept the exception caused by a managed bean action, you can route the error message display to the ADF model error handler. Again, let's simulate the code that would need to go into a try-catch block public void onToolBarButtonAction(ActionEvent actionEvent) {    JboException ex = new JboException("Just to tease you !!!!!");  BindingContext bctx = BindingContext.getCurrent();    ((DCBindingContainer)bctx.getCurrentBindingsEntry()).reportException(ex); } The error now displays as shown in the image below As you can see, the error is now handled by the ADFm Error handler, which - as mentioned before - could be a custom error handler. Using the ADF model error handling for displaying exceptions thrown in managed beans require the current ADF Faces page to have an associated PageDef file (which is the case if the page or view contains ADF bound components). Note that to invoke methods exposed on the business service it is recommended to always work through the binding layer (method binding) so that in case of an error the ADF model error handler is automatically used.

    Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) 12.1.1.0.1 was released to OTN last week with support for new standards and features including: Support for Eclipse Indigo SR2 (3.7.2) Updated server plugins for Glassfish 3.1.2 SSL configuration support for WebLogic Server deployment and debugging   The SSL configuration option can be found when configuring the domain for a new WebLogic Server connection. For Eclipse early adopters, an OEPE 12c update based on Eclipse Juno M6 will be available soon.

  • Oracle XE as local recovery database and Oracle Standard as main db

    Hi, I just wanted to know what you guys think about this. I have an app written in Visual Basic .Net as my front end and and Oracle 11g Standart database as the back-end. So I have like 20 pc's running this app locally. They're all inserting, updating, deleting data on this single database. I want to develop a solution in the case that the server database crashes or cannot stay on line. So i think of having oracle 10g XE on each pc. Thus all the data will be stored in the local db. I think about running a proccess once in a while (ex. every 15 minutes) to send/get the data to/from the main server. What do you think about this strategy?
