  I am using asp.net 3.5 with C#. I need to do a database lookup when a user enters ProductID in txtProductID. I guess doing javascript is out of the question since this will have to be server side call. • Problem running gems in OS X

  I'm running Snow Leopard, and installed a custom built Ruby according to the guide here: http://hivelogic.com/articles/compiling-ruby-rubygems-and-rails-on-snow-leopard . My ruby binary lives in usr/local/bin/ruby and my gems are installed in /usr/local/bin/gem . My gem env looks like so: RUBY VERSION: 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [universal-darwin10.0] - INSTALLATION DIRECTORY: /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8 - RUBY EXECUTABLE: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby - EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY: /usr/bin I think I may have borked the install since all actions taked on gems give the error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Errno::EEXIST) File exists - /usr/local/bin/ruby How do you edit the environment variables for the gem environment? And for those of you on OS X and using ruby AND gems, what did you use to get yourself up and running? I'm thinking of just nuking everything and starting anew.

• Problem with a SQL statement

  I'm trying to enter values into a database table using a form and a PHP function. The PHP seems to be fine as the SQL statement it creates looks okay, but the database always throws up an error. This is the SQL statement that my code has generated (with arbitrary values): INSERT INTO Iteminfo ('itemName', 'itemSeller', 'itemCategory', 'itemDescription', 'itemPrice', 'itemPostage', 'itemBegin', 'itemEnd', 'buynow', 'itemPicture') values ('gorillaz album', 'ben', 'music', 'new one ', '5.00', '1.00', '2010-03-15 14:59:51', '2010-03-16 14:59:51', '0', 'http://www.thefader.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/gorillaz-plastic-beach.jpg') This throws up an error both when I use the PHP function to evaluate the query and also when I use phpMyAdmin to enter the query manually. However, I can't see anything wrong with it. Can anyone shed some light on this? All of the fields are VARCHAR values, except for itemPrice and itemPostage (which are stored as DECIMAL(4,2)) and the itemBegin and itemEnd, which are stored as DATETIMEs.

  I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go? • Android: Displaying Video on VideoView

  I'm trying to display a video in my sdcard on the video view. Here is my code: String name = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/test.mp4"; final VideoView videoView = (VideoView)findViewById(R.id.videoView1); videoView.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() { public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer arg0) { videoView.start(); } }); videoView.setVideoPath(name); The file I am trying to open is called test.mp4 and its located within the sdcard folder. I get an error saying the application has unfortunately stopped. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks. EDIT : I used the debugger and found out that I get an InvocationTargetException. The detailed message says that : Failure delivering result ResultInfo{who=null, request=1001, result=-1, data=Intent { dat=file:///mnt/sdcard/test.mp4 }} to activity : java.lang.NullPointerException EDIT : I looked at the logcat again and it seems to give the error at videoView.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() { I'm guessing either videoView or MediaPlayer is null.

• Using psftp to upload and download files

  Hello I am trying to upload and download files from my desktop to my server. Now after some search I did download psftp. I used to use filezilla earlier, but I cannot install it on my desktop due to a few reasons. Since psftp (similar to putty) is just an executable for file transfer. So now after going through this link http://www.math.tamu.edu/~mpilant/math696/psftp.html. I understood that put and get are two commands I would use to download and upload files. Now when I logon to the server and say get filename, it actually is throwing back an error "local: unable to open filename". I tried that with other files too, and I end up getting the same error. Am I making a mistake or is it a problem with this executable? I did not find relevant tags for this topic, could somebody suggest me the right forum for this issue.

• Silverlight 4 Assembly Sharing Problem

  I have a WPF .NET 4.0 class library referencing a Silverlight 4 class library. The SL library compiles fine but when I compile the WPF class library, I get: Error 2 Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' MyProj.Presentation.Wpf I figure the problem must be similar to the one mentioned here: http://markti.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D92CF278F0F91957!273.entry but my WPF library doesn't contain any XAML that references a user control from my SL library. In fact, my SL library doesn't have any XAML in it at all. It does, however, have several shared DependencyObjects, such as an EventCommander (binding UI element events to Commands), and some DataTemplate helpers. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem here? And has anyone found a way of effectively referencing UI elements in a SL4 project from .NET 4.0? Thanks.

• http response to GET request - working in FF not Chromium

  For fun I'm trying to write a very simple server in C. When I send this response to Firefox it prints out the body "hello, world" but with Chromium it gives me a Error 100 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED): Unknown error.   Hi all, I'm new to pgf so i was trying out some examples from the pgfplot manual. One example is especially relevant for my current task but, alas, it would not compile. Package PGF Math Error: Could not parse input 'a' as a floating point number, sorry. The unreadable part was near 'a'.. I have no clue how to correct this behavior. • Execute a PyQt app from an acpi event in linux

  Hi, I want to use a PyQt application to display an image when some acpi event is triggered under linux. I already setting up the configuration for the event and the python scrip is executed when the event is triggered, but when program reach the creation of the QApplication app = QApplication(sys.argv) it stops without error. I tried setting up the same DISPLAY and PATH environment variables as my current user but it doesn't work. This is my event file: event=sony/hotkey SNC 00000001 00000011 action=/etc/acpi/vaio-tools/brightness/sonybright.sh up 2>&1>/tmp/vaio-tools_brightness.log I tried to find some error in the /tmp/vaio-tools_brightness.log but it doesn't log anything after it reach the QApp creation in code. any hints??

  Hi I want to call a rake task from a cron job that stores remote weather data in the rails cache. However, I must be doing something pretty wrong here because I cannot find any solution through countless fruitless searches. Say I define and call this task namespace :weather do desc "Store weather from remote source to cache" task :cache do Rails.cache.write('weather_data', Date.today) end end I get the error Anonymous modules have no name to be referenced by Which leads me to believe the rails cache isn't available. Outputting Rails.class from the rake file gives me Module but Rails.cache.class again returns the above error. Do I need to include something here?   Hi I have a problem with the folowwing piece of code. I am passing a parameter (List) to a methods executing the following code. When it executes sql throws an error saying that the proc expects a parameter that was not provided. I know this error and understand it, and when stepping through the code I can see that the cmdExecuteReader object has a collection of parameters, with the correct naame and value. • response.redirect to classic asp failing {Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimize

  I have the following code pasted below. For some reason, the response.redirect seems to be failing and it is maxing out the cpu on my server and just doesn't do anything. The .net code uploads the file fine, but does not redirect to the asp page to do the processing. I know this is absolute rubbish why would you have .net code redirecting to classic asp, it is a legacy app. I have tried putting false or true etc. at the end of the redirect as I have read other people have had issues with this. Please help as it's driving me insane! It's so strange, it runs locally on my machine but won't run on my server! I am getting the following error when I debugged remotely. {Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimized or a native frame is on top of the call stack.} (UPDATED) After debugging remotely and taking the redirect out of the try catch, I have found that the redirect is trying to get to the correct location but after it leaves the redirect is just seems to get lost. (almost as if it can't navigate away from the cobra_import project) back up a level to COBRA/pages. Why is this??? • insertNewObjectForEntityForName:inManagedObjectContext: returning NSNumber bug?

  I'm relatively well versed in CoreData and have been using it for several years with little or no difficulty. For the life of me, I can't figure out why insertNewObjectForEntityForName:inManagedObjectContext: is all of a sudden returning some sort of strange instance of NSNumber. GDB says the returned object is of the correct custom subclass of NSManagedObject, but when I go to print a description of the NSManagedObject itself, I get the following error: *** -[NSCFNumber objectID]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3f26f50 What's even stranger, is that I'm able to set some relationships and attributes using setValue:forKey: and all is good. But when I try to set one specific relationship, I get this error: *** -[NSCFNumber entity]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3f26f50 I've tried everything from clean all targets, to restarting both mac and iPhone, even editing the model so that the relationship in question is to-one instead of to-many. • How do I verify the URL that ActiveResource intends to use on a call?

  Hi there, I'm trying to request data from another Rails app, but I keep getting a "URL not found" error. Is it possible to use the debugger to figure out the intended URL and parameters for an intended ActiveResource call? For example, I'd like to make a GET request with the following parameters: https://some_server.com/employees/search.xml?last_name=smith And I have the following ActiveResource model class Employee < ActiveResource::Base self.site = "https://.some_server.com" end And the some_server.com app has a search action that maps this way: map.connect "/employees/search.:format", :controller => 'employees', :action => 'search' But when I try this: Employee.new(:last_name => 'smith).get(:search) I get a 404 "Service not found" error. To me, that sounds like the URL that ACtiveResource is requesting is incorrect, 'cause when I make the above request via a browser, I get the xml. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Cheerio, Berns

• Using HTTP status codes to reflect success/failure of Web service request?

  I'm implementing a Web service that returns a JSON-encoded payload. If the service call fails -- say, due to invalid parameters -- a JSON-encoded error is returned. I'm unsure, however, what HTTP status code should be returned in that situation. On one hand, it seems like HTTP status codes are for HTTP: even though an application error is being returned, the HTTP transfer itself was successful, suggesting a 200 OK response. On the other hand, a RESTful approach would seem to suggest that if the caller is attempting to post to a resource, and the JSON parameters of the request are invalid somehow, that a 400 Bad Request is appropriate. I'm using Prototype on the client side, which has a nice mechanism for automatically dispatching to different callbacks based on HTTP status code (onSuccess and onFailure), so I'm tempted to use status codes to indicate service success or failure, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has opinions or experience with common practice in this matter.   Hi, Depending on how I map my linq queries to my domain objects, I get the following error The member 'member' has no supported translation to SQL. • Grails Illegel Exception

  Hi, Can any one tell me when this error occurs . I suspect this is coming when added any new js in Grails . I'm unable to dig this : 16 Apr, 2010 4:58:25 PM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader loadClass INFO: Illegal access: this web application instance has been stopped already. Could not load org.codehaus.groovy.grails.plugins.codecs.HTMLCodecBeanInfo. The eventual following stack trace is caused by an error thrown for debugging purposes as well as to attempt to terminate the thread which caused the illegal access, and has no functional impact. java.lang.IllegalStateException thanks in advance, srinath
