• Swap function for a char*

  I have the simple function below which swap two characters of an array of characters (s). However, I am getting a "Unhandled exception at 0x01151cd7 in Bla.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x011557a4." error. The two indexes (left and right) are within the limit of the array. What am I doing wrong? void swap(char* s, int left, int right) { char tmp = s[left]; s[left] = s[right]; s[right] = tmp; } swap("ABC", 0, 1); I am using VS2010 with unmanaged C/C++. Thanks!

I guess I should send request every x minutes and compare the result with what's now but I don't know how to do that. • Help me with query string parameters (Rails)

  Hi, I'm creating a newsletter. Each email contains a link for editing your subscription: <%= edit_user_url(@user, :secret => @user.created_at.to_i) %> :secret = @user.created_at.to_i prevents users from editing each others profiles. def edit @user = user.find(params[:id]) if params[:secret] == @user.created_at.to_i render 'edit' else redirect_to root_path end end It doesn't work - you're always redirected to root_path. It works if I modify it like this: def edit @user = user.find(params[:id]) if params[:secret] == "1293894219" ... 1293894219 is the "created_at.to_i" for a particular user. Do you have any ideas why?

• Strange issue with cout

  After reading from a text file, and storing it into a string, I tried to pass this message into another function that will print it out. • WhatsApp - writing a clone (iphone, android, wp7)

  I am trying to create a instant messaging app very much like whatsapp I suppose. My resources I have available to me are Server development in C# (REST Service, dedicated server app etc) And currently an android development platform using eclipse (iphone, wp7 to follow later). I have done some development in Android before but I don't have any idea where to start an application like this. My guess would be it would work with UDP / TCP or similar ? I currently have a shared server for an asp.net website but I presume this wouldn't be ideal, I could essential setup a web service on the server and get a client to publish his messages there but then this would mean that the receivers would have to POLL (PULL) every 5 minutes or so - so I guess this wouldn't be real time Do I need to use UDP here ? And I presume platforms like Iphone, Android and WP7 will not have any issues sending msgs by UDP - if that is how its done. I look forward to any help or guidance.

  Hi, First PHP project and I'm stuck! I wish to allow users to click a button or a link and download a file. However, my PHP must first perform some tasks, choose the right file, record the download event in a db etc. This I can do, but how do I then send the file as a response to the user's click? • How can I remove Ruby, Rails & mysql to start the installation process again?

  I've been trying to get setup with Ruby on Rails today, but I think I've followed some bad instructions along the way, and nothing seems to work. I've now borrowed the book "Agile Web Development with Rails, Third Edition" from a friend, and want to follow the setup instructions in that. Firstly, do I need to remove what I've setup previously? If yes, how do I do it? I can't seem to find instructions anywhere. I'm running OSX 10.6.1, so I know that it came with some stuff already setup, but I've been installing customized stuff over the top which I think I'll have to remove. Thanks for reading!

• Wrapping <%= f.check_box %> inside <label>

  I have a list of checkboxes on a form. Due to the way the CSS is structured, the label element is styled directly. This requires me to nest the checkbox inside of the tag. This works in raw HTML, if you click on the label text, the state of the checkbox changes. It doesn't work with the rails <%= f.check_box %> helper, however, because it outputs a hidden input tag first. In summary, <label> <%= f.check_box :foo %> Foo </label> this is the output I want: <label> <input type="checkbox" ... /> <input type="hidden" ... /> Foo </label> ...but this is what rails is giving me: <label> <input type="hidden" ... /> <input type="checkbox" ... /> Foo </label> So the label behavior doesn't actually work :(. Is there any way to get around this?

How to: only with the full visibility of an application in the browser window start an action Martin Krüger continues his journey in starting storyboards and tackles the condition that the application is completely in the browser window prior to the storyboard starting. A Numeric Input Control for Windows Phone 7 Jeremy Likness came up with a great idea for numeric input for WP7 ... you'll smile when you see it, but what a great idea... and a NumericTextBox to go along with it. Performing CRUD on Relational Data (Multiple table) using RIA in SL4 Manas Patnaik has a post up that breaks the normal blog post or demo mold by having two tables with a relational constraint and doing CRUD operations on them. Resize of a grid by using thumb controls Martin Krüger has a sample in the Expression Gallery of a grid that is resizable by using 'thumb controls' at the 4 corners... all source, so check it out! Silverlight 4 – Productivity Power Tools and EF4 Ryan Alford found a very interesting bug associated with EF4 and the Productivity Power Tools, and the way to get out of it is just weird as well. Silverlight 4 – Toolkit and Theming Ryan Alford also had a problem adding a theme from the Toolkit, and what all you might have to do to get around this one.... Part 4 of 4 : Tips/Tricks for Silverlight Developers. Michael Crump has part 4 of his series on Silverlight Development tips and tricks. This is numbers 16 through 20 and covers topics such as Version information, Using Lambdas, Specifying a development port, Disabling ChildWindow Close button, and XAML cleanup. The XML content importer and Windows Phone 7 Peter Kuhn wanted to use the XML content inporter with a WP7 app and ran into problems implementing the process and a lack of documentation as well... he pounded through it all and has a class he's sharing for loading sounds via XML file settings. The Devoxx conferences are designed “for developers by developers.” The conference committees are looking for speakers who are passionate developers unafraid to share their knowledge of Java, mobile, web and beyond. Those different formats allow speakers to choose the best way to present their topics and can be mentioned during the submission process Devoxx has proven its success under Stephan Janssen, organizer of Devoxx in Belgium for the past 11 years. Devoxx has been the biggest Java conference in Europe for many years. To organize those local conferences, Stephan has enrolled the top community leaders in the UK and France. Ben Evans and Martijn Verberg are the leaders of London Java User Group (JUG) and are also known internationally for starting the Adopt-a-JSR program. Antonio Goncalves is the leader of the Paris JUG. He organized last year’s Devoxx France, which was a big success with twice the size first expected. The organizers made sure to add the local character to the conferences. "The community energy has to feel right," said Ben Evans and for that he picked an "old Victoria hall" for the venue. Those leaders are part of very dynamic Java communities in France and in the UK. France has 22 JUGs; the Paris JUG alone has 2,000 members. The UK has over 50,000 developers working in London and its surroundings; a lot of them are Java developers working in the financial industry. The conference fee is kept as low as possible to encourage those developers to attend. Devoxx promises to be crowded and sold out in advance. • Permission denied for cvs server via ssh

  I cant create a new project by importing a java project via eclipse onto my cvs server via internet. I created a directory as root called /priv/cvs/. Then i called "cvs -d /priv/cvs/ init". I created a user named cvs and a groups called cvs. The repository is owned by cvs and in group cvs. Then i created a user "ben" and his only group is cvs. I "chrooted" the user "ben" accessing only the cvs functionality by not allowing to access the server via ssh with password, only by using a public key which is added in his home directory on the server in file authorized_keys2. the contect of authorized_keys2 is as follows: no-port-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,command="/usr/bin/cvs server" ssh-rsa [public_key_content] rsa-key Connecting to the server works pretty fine. Eclipse asks for the passphrase for the private key to connect to the server. Authentication works and eclipse is able to run cvs commands. But when importing my project by using Team-Share Project. I get the error: The server reported an error: Permission denied projectname: cvs server: cannot open /priv/cvs/CVSROOT/config: Permission denied projectname: Cannot access /priv/cvs/CVSROOT The access right for the cvs root (/priv/cvs/) is set to 770. Which means that the owner, which is cvs and the group participants of the group cvs are allowed to read and write. Why do i get Permission denied? When i set the folder to 777, which means read/write to ALL, then it works. But i dont want that. I only want cvs users read/write to this folder? Is there something i misunderstood about access rules?

  Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it. • Python DictReader - Skipping rows with missing columns?

  heya, I have a Excel .CSV file I'm attempting to read in with DictReader. All seems to be well, except it seems to omit rows, specifically those with missing columns. Our input looks like: mail,givenName,sn,lorem,ipsum,dolor,telephoneNumber [email protected],ian,bay,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],mike,gibson,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],ross,martin,,,,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],david,connor,,,,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],chris,call,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 So some of the rows have missing lorem/ipsum/dolor columns, and it's just a string of commas for those. We're reading it in with: def read_gd_dump(input_file="blah 20100423.csv"): gd_extract = csv.DictReader(open('blah 20100423.csv'), restval='missing', dialect='excel') return dict([(row['something'], row) for row in gd_extract]) And I checked that "something" (the key for our dict) isn't one of the missing columns, I had originally suspected it might be that. It's one of the columns after that. However, DictReader seems to completely skip over the rows. I tried setting restval to something, didn't seem to make any difference. I can't seem to find anything in Python's CSV docs (http://docs.python.org/library/csv.html) that would explain this behaviour, but I may have misread something. Any ideas? Thanks, Victor

• Artisan unable to access environment variables from $_ENV

• Ubuntu 10.04 server, problems installing the desktop

  Hi all, I have just setup two servers running 10.04 server and have installed the ubuntu-desktop as follows: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop The problem is even though it says it has installed it will not auto-start... I've tried this: sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.conf /etc/init/gdm.disabled sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.disabled /etc/init/gdm.conf To enable/disable it but still not joy. Any ideas? Thanks, Ben

I was looking at an answer to a different question, and Ben Richards had made mention that laptops that support digitizer (possibly wrong terminology) technology is superior. • ubuntu gnome short cut keys

  Hi, I have done something quite silly and not sure how to fix it. I modified some of the gnome keyboard short cuts and was trying to disable the "Run Application" command. In the process I assigned it to the delete key and every time I hit delete the "Run Application" window comes up. It would not normally be a problem but the "Keyboard Shortcuts" no long has the short cut in the window so I can't disable it. Any help advice would be appreciated. Cheers Ben

I would like to change the foreground color of the irssi statusbars to black but can't figure out how to do it. I don't want to download a whole theme, I only want to change this one color. Any idea?
