• how to deal with a static analyzer output

  We have started using a static analyzer (Coverity) on our code base. We were promptly stupefied by the sheer amount of warnings we received (its in the hundreds of thousands) , it will take the entire team a few mounts to clear them all (obliviously impossible). the options we discussed so far are 1) hire a contractor to sort out the warning and fix them - he drawback: we will probably need very experiences people to do all these modifications, and no contractor will have required understanding of the code. 2) filter out the warning and deal only with the dangerous ones - the problem here is that our static analysis output will always be cluttered by warning making it difficult for us to isolate problems. also the filtering of the warning is also a major effort. either way, bringing our code to a state when the static analyzer can be a useful tool for us seems a monumental task. so how is it possible to work with the static analyzer without braining current development efforts into a complete stand still?

• Where are the snapshot files?

  Hey guys, The documentation states that the snapshots are persisted to S3 for persistence... I wanted to leverage that and create a instance of my server in a different region (my original server is in APAC, I wanted to create an instance in US-East.) I have logged into my account via CloudBerry S3, but cannot see any files in the S3 account (sorry, I am beginner in AWS.) Also, switching over to US-East removes the snapshot from view... so how can I create another instance using the same EBS volume in a different region? Why can't I see the snapshot files in my S3? • Django: switch language of message sent from admin panel

  I have a model, Order, that has an action in the admin panel that lets an admin send information about the order to certain persons listed that order. Each person has language set and that is the language the message is supposed to be sent in. A short version of what I'm using: from django.utils.translation import ugettext as _ from django.core.mail import EmailMessage lang = method_that_gets_customer_language() body = _("Dear mister X, here is the information you requested\n") body += some_order_information subject = _("Order information") email = EmailMessage(subject, body, '[email protected]', ['[email protected]']) email.send() The customer information about the language he uses is available in lang. The default language is en-us, the translations are in french (fr) and german (de). Is there a way to use the translation for the language specified in lang for body and subject then switch back to en-us? For example: lang is 'de'. The subject and body should get the strings specified in the 'de' translation files.

• Ruby mailer is coming up with an EOFError

• Leverage cloud and programming to share GB's of photos

  My friends and I went on a trip and we have over 8 GB of photos we want to share. We live in different geographic locations and all of us (14 people) have a part of the 8 GB. I was wondering if there's a way to leverage my php skills to share all these photos. My current plan is to make a simple site that you can upload a bunch of files and also list those files for people to download (probably a compressed folder of a bunch of selected ones) but was wondering if there's a better way or if I'm grossly underestimating scalability issues. All of us have high speed internet (essentially T1) and I was planning on using Amazon EC2 since this is a heavy task but for a short time period. That's also the reason I can't use dropbox or similar services since they have a 2GB cap (and I don't want to have everyone sign up and install something). I also don't want to set up anything too tricky since not all of them are tech savvy.

  hi guys, im new in codeigniter. i have a project running perfectly in my localhost. when i deployed, my links seem to be broken. e.g. mysite.com displays the homepage without any error. now, i have a link let's say an about us link e.g. mysite.com/main/about where main is my controller and about is my function. the problem is the about us link is broken e.g. "Oops! This link appears to be broken." do you have any idea where did i go wrong? thank you for any positive response.

  Hello friends, I am using Every thing works fine except that, there are some pages like About Us, Contact Us, Privacy Policy etc, which do not need to login to view them. In my case i need to login to view all pages. I want these common pages to be viewable without having to log on.   Background Story I'm working at a software firm developing a test automation framework to replace our old spaghetti tangled system. Since our system requires a login for almost everything we do, I decided it would be best to use @BeforeMethod, @DataProvider, and @Factory to setup my tests. However, I've run into some issues. Sample Test Case Lets say the software system is a baseball team roster. We want to test to make sure a user can search for a team member by name. (Note: I'm aware that BeforeMethods don't run in any given order -- assume that's been taken care of for now.) @BeforeMethod public void setupSelenium() { // login with username & password // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page } @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String playerName, String searchTerm) { // search for "searchTerm" // browse through results // pass if we find playerName // fail (Didn't find the player) } This test case assumes the following: The user has already logged on (in a BeforeMethod, most likely) The user has already navigated to the search page (trivial, before method) The parameters to the test are associated with the aforementioned login The Problems So lets try and figure out how to handle the parameters for the test case. Idea #1 This method allows us to associate dataproviders with usernames, and lets us use multiple users for any specific test case! @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String user, String pass, String name, String search) { // login with user/pass // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page // ... } ...but there's lots of repetition, as we have to make EVERY function accept two extra parameters. Not to mention, we're also testing the acknowledge announcements feature, which we don't actually want to test. Idea #2 So lets use the factory to initialize things properly! class BaseTestCase { public BaseTestCase(String user, String password, Object[][] data); } class SomeTest { @Factory public void ... } With this, we end up having to write one factory per test case... Although, it does let us have multiple users per test-case. Conclusion I'm about fresh out of ideas. There was another idea I had where I was loading data from an XML file, and then calling the methods from a program... but its getting silly. Any ideas?

I then sort it to get it alphabetic. This all works perfectly (except I seem to occasionally get duplicates of countries!). Anyway, what I need is to place the US, and UK at the top of the list regardless. The problem I have is that I can't isolate the index or the string that will be returned for the US and UK because that is specific to the locale! Any ideas would be really appreciated.

• Finding cities close to one another using longitude and latitude

  Each user in my db is associated to a city (with it's longitude and latitude) How would I go about finding out which cities are close to one another? i.e. in England, Cambridge is fairly close to London. So If I have a user who lives in Cambridge. Users close to them would be users living in close surrounding cities, such as London, Hertford etc. Any ideas how I could go about this? And also, how would I define what is close? i.e. in the UK close would be much closer than if it were in the US as the US is far more spread out. Ideas and suggestions. Parent site is one page, and each of the 3 child sites is about 8-10pages. Right now I have the 3 child sites set up as folders under arboroaks.net. For example, lakelandhills, a child site, would be arboroaks.net/lakelandhills. I have the full domain, arboroaksatlakelandhills.com redirect to this url (arboroaks.net/lakelandhills). My question is whether I should have the child sites be contained on their own domain or not. Think lakelandhillsatarboroaks.com/about-us.php verse arboroaks.net/lakelandhills/about-us.php. • Google maps z-index problem in IE

  I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div? • Is it possible to disable the iPhone's automatic hyperlinks?

  We send out a notification email whenever we have "phishing" emails reported to us. In these emails, we include a copy-paste of the text inside the original phishing email as a sample of what is reported to us. Our code strips all hyperlinks out of the email via PHP, but still includes (in plain text) the link. When users receive this email in their client (Thunderbird, Outlook, Horde/IMP, etc), the hyperlink is removed. However, the iPhone likes to take web addresses in plain text and automatically turn them into hyperlinks. Is there any possible way to stop this action from happening via a HTML tag or by using PHP to replace certain parts of the hyperlink?

• Find value within a range in lookup table

  I have the simplest problem to implement, but so far I have not been able to get my head around a solution in Python. I have built a table that looks similar to this one: 501 - ASIA 1262 - EUROPE 3389 - LATAM 5409 - US I will test a certain value to see if it falls within these ranges, 389 -> ASIA, 1300 -> LATAM, 5400 -> US. A value greater than 5409 should not return a lookup value. I normally have a one to one match, and would implement a dictionary for the lookup. But in this case I have to consider these ranges, and I am not seeing my way out of the problem. Maybe without providing the whole solution, could you provide some comments that would help me look in the right direction? It is very similar to a vlookup in a spreadsheet. I would describe my Python knowledge as somewhere in between basic to intermediate. Many thanks in advance.

• Magento: Configurable product options not showing on a view page?

  I have multi-store Magento system and strange things happen when i try to see a configurable product on my main store - the options select lists don't show up at all! And that is the case for the 95% of the products on the main store. But on the other stores it works fine?! I can't see what am I doing wrong. All my products are configurable, all have set simple products with options attached to them, all are set to be visible on all stores (WebsiteIds attribute), all are enabled on all stores, all simple products are in stock and have some stock quantity set. I think if I've done something wrong it would be like that on all stores, not just the main one. I'm totally clueless, please help.
