  • How can I speed up Netbeans Task Marker resolution?

    I'm trying to quickly navigate and fix problems in code in Netbeans, and it just takes too long. I'll fix a problem, and it will take seconds to re-compile. While this is happening, the marker remains, and all the others that depend on it will too (requiring multiple next-marker key strokes to get to a "new" problem). If I'm doing a fix that changes the number of lines (e.g. organise imports), the markers will navigate to the wrong place, even though the correct text is underlined. Is there a way to speed this up? I presume it's because it's doing a full file compilation via javac to calculate the markers. BUT the information is available in netbeans, because the correct text is underlined, even when the compilation occurs.

  • Should .net comments start with a capital letter and end with a period?

    Depending on the feedback I get, I might raise this "standard" with my colleagues. This might become a custom StyleCop rule. is there one written already? So, Stylecop already dictates this for summary, param, and return documentation tags. Do you think it makes sense to demand the same from comments? On related note: if a comment is already long, then should it be written as a proper sentence? For example (perhaps I tried too hard to illustrate a bad comment): //if exception quit vs. // If an exception occurred, then quit. If figured - most of the time, if one bothers to write a comment, then it might as well be informative. Consider these two samples: //if exception quit if (exc != null) { Application.Exit(-1); } and // If an exception occurred, then quit. if (exc != null) { Application.Exit(-1); } Arguably, one does not need a comment at all, but since one is provided, I would think that the second one is better. Please back up your opinion. Do you have a good reference for the art of commenting, particularly if it relates to .Net? Thanks.

  • What could trigger a change of http status to 500 on the client's end?

    We have a PHP web application that posts data to itself, and either displays an updated page based on that data, or redirects to another page. An example of this is a script with a paged list on it, where clicking on the Next link causes a post to the same page, which then returns an updated version of the page showing the new set of list items. One client is reporting that IE is displaying friendly error messages when the page updates itself instead of the correct behavior of displaying the updated page. Turning friendly error messages off "corrects" this problem, and displays the updated page normally, indicating no actual server error occurred. When testing from any location other than this client's our web app does not produce any http error statuses, and in this specific situation only produces 200 statuses. (According to Fiddler.) What could be interfering with the HTTP POST and changing the response's http status code to 500 (or another code that would trigger friendly errors in IE)? Are there certain proxies or other network tools that could be misconfigured or buggy in this manner? Is there any way we can alter our application (apart from avoiding posts to the same script, which is not feasible) to get around this misbehavior?

    I am attempting to code some plugins to use with MIDI sequencers but have hit a stumbling block. I can't use global-scope variables to store information because multiple instances of the .dll can exist which share memory. How do I create a class (for re-usability purposes in other plugins) containing 2 dimensional array and other variables the content of which is to be shared between functions? If that is possible, how would I read and write the data from the function in the framework where I do the processing?

    I'm a big fan of using message queue systems(like Apache ActiveMQ) for the tasks which are rather slow and do not require instant feedback in User Interface. The question is: Should I use it for other tasks(which are pretty fast) and do not require instant feedback in User Interface? Or does it in involve another level of complexity without not so much benefits?

    I am developing a simple application where in we have predefined quotas on usage for each user on the system.. and if the quota is up..the system should logoff of the user account.. this will happen if the application is allowed to run.. but if the user is closing the application on his own ..the app should automaticaly logoff the account.. i did exactly that in writing forced logoff code in form-closing event.. but if we are closing the app/process using the taskmanager.. the form closing event is not being called. and so the user is able to continue even if his quota of time is up.. can anybody helpme out with this..

  • Why confirmation emails end up in the spam folder all of a sudden?

    I run a forum similar to this one where people can sign up and post. I don't use Open ID (oops?) as we have our own sign up and email confirmation system. Everything was going fine up until a week ago when all of a sudden all emails starting either going to spam boxes or not being sent at all. Anyone know why this would happen seeminlgy out of the blue?

    Hello, I have created a RSS parser and 3 TableViews and it parses the RSS files fine but I don't know how to notify the TableViewController when parsing has ended so it can update the view. The TableViewController initiates the parser and the parsing of a feed. parser = [[RSSParser alloc] initWithURL:@"http://randomfeed.com"]; I can access the single feed items like [parser feedItems]; In parser.m i have implemented the delegate methods of NSXMLParser: - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName - (void)parserDidEndDocument:(NSXMLParser *)parser So how do i get parserDidEndDocument to notify my controllers so i can add the data to the tableview.   • How do I get MSBuild Task to generate XML Documents when building a solution?

    I have a solution with lots of projects. Each project is configured to generate the XML documentation file when building in Debug-Mode (which is default). That works when I build in Visual Studio 2008. In my build script on my integration server I advise MSBuild to build the whole solution, but it won't generate the documentation files. What can I do? I already tried to explicitly give the Debug-Condition to the build process, but it makes no difference. <Target Name="BuilSolution"> <MSBuild Projects="C:\Path\To\MySolution.sln" targets="Build" Properties="SolutionConfigurationPlatforms='Debug|Any CPU'"/> </Target> There seem to be some ideas to solve this problem when building single projects, but I can't afford to do this, so I need a hint for doing it this way.     Hi there, I am looking to add some dynamics to our corporate website. This is a secondary role so I'd rather not be spending a ton of time on it. At this point, all I need is a simple PHP script where a non-technical user can pull up and manage the records in a MySQL table. There's only one table of data to be managed; it's just that it will be accessed and updated quite frequently. I recall that Grails' default scaffolding feature has precisely this: list of entries with the ability to add, edit and delete, with no nonsense. What would be the best tool to use for this? I would rather not be writing it from scratch, as this will take me quite some time. It seems like the kind of thing that ought to exist somewhere. Thanks!

    I'm trying to do some basic quartz core drawing with arcs, but have an F in math ;-) I have a point: CGPoint center = CGPointMake(100.0f, 100.0f); CGFloat radius = 50.0f; CGFloat startAngle = 20.0f / 180.0f * M_PI; CGFloat endAngle = 150.0f / 180.0f * M_PI; CGContextAddArc(c, center.x, center.y, radius, startAngle, endAngle, 0); Now I want to draw a little dot on the middle of the arc. I mean, not the center point, but the little curve (arc) which is made up between the angles 20-150 degrees. I looked into quartz but unfortunately, there seems no helper function to calculate this. Probably some hardcore trigonometric logic with atan and stuff of this kind needed?

    Hi, I have a financial cube and i have to calculate Daily Sales Outstanding as : Number of Days between the selected month last date and the earliest transaction date when cummulative sum of Revenue from last date of the month till the date where sum revenue <= the debt amount for the date . e.g On 31/12/2009 my debt amount = 2,500,000 31-Dec-09 30-Nov-09 15-Oct-09 31-Oct-09 Revenue 1,000,000 1,000,000 500,000 1,0000 Cummulative sum of revenue 1,000,000 2,00,000 2,500,000 4,000,000 No of Days 31 30 16 On 15/Oct/09 cummulative revenue is 2,500,000 which equals my debt amount on that day Count of Days = 31 + 31 + 16 = 76 Days. In other words Sum Revenue from the selected date backwards until sum total equals or exeeds the total to date balance of the debtors. Any help will be highly appreciated .   • How (and if) to write a single-consumer queue using the task parallel library?

    I've heard a bunch of podcasts recently about the TPL in .NET 4.0. Most of them describe background activities like downloading images or doing a computation, using tasks so that the work doesn't interfere with a GUI thread. Most of the code I work on has more of a multiple-producer / single-consumer flavor, where work items from multiple sources must be queued and then processed in order. One example would be logging, where log lines from multiple threads are sequentialized into a single queue for eventual writing to a file or database. All the records from any single source must remain in order, and records from the same moment in time should be "close" to each other in the eventual output. So multiple threads or tasks or whatever are all invoking a queuer: lock( _queue ) // or use a lock-free queue! { _queue.enqueue( some_work ); _queueSemaphore.Release(); } And a dedicated worker thread processes the queue: while( _queueSemaphore.WaitOne() ) { lock( _queue ) { some_work = _queue.dequeue(); } deal_with( some_work ); } It's always seemed reasonable to dedicate a worker thread for the consumer side of these tasks. Should I write future programs using some construct from the TPL instead? Which one? Why?

  • How to place a symbol (path) relative to the far end of svg text?

    I'm working on a program which generates SVG maps. Some of the map items have captions which need a symbol after them (like a plane symbol for an airport caption). If I have a text element thus <text x="30" y="30">Pericles</text> I can place another bit of text at the next character position by saying <text x="30" y="30">Pericles <tspan>!</tspan></text> but I'd like to draw my own symbol at that position with a <path> element. What I'm doing at the moment is having the generating program guess the extent of the text from tables of font metrics etc, but this isn't accurate enough to place the symbol consistently. Is there any way round this - like specifying a <marker> to be used when drawing the text, and using a tspan with an invisible dash in it or something to get the marker placed?

  • Have main thread wait for a boost thread complete a task (but not finish).

    I have found plenty on making one thread wait for another to finish executing before continuing, but that is not what I wanted to do. I am not very familiar with using any multi-threading apis but right now I'm trying to learn boost. My situation is that I am using my main thread (the starting one from int main()) to create an instance of a class that is in charge of interacting with the main GUI. A class function is then called that creates a boost thread which in turn creates the GUI and runs the message pump. The thing I want to do is when my main thread calls the classes member function to create the GUI, I don't want that function to return until I tell it to from the newly created thread. This way my main thread can't continue and call more functions from the GUI class that interact with the GUI thread until that thread has completed GUI creation and entered the message loop. I think I may be able to figure it out if it was multiple boost thread objects interacting with each other, but when it is the main thread (non-boost object) interacting with a boost thread object, I get lost. Eventually I want a loop in my main thread to call a class function (among other tasks) to check if the user as entered any new input into the GUI (buy any changes detected by the message loop being updated into a struct and changing a bool to tell the main thread in the class function a change has occurred). Any suggestions for any of this would be greatly appreciated. This is the member function called by the main thread. int ANNGUI::CreateGUI() { GUIMain = new Main(); GUIThread = new boost::thread(boost::bind(&Main::MainThreadFunc, GUIMain)); return 0; }; This is the boost thread starting function. void Main::MainThreadFunc() { ANNVariables = new GUIVariables; WndProc = new WindowProcedure; ANNWindowsClass = new WindowsClass(ANNVariables, WndProc); ANNWindow = new MainWindow(ANNVariables); GUIMessagePump = new MessagePump; ANNWindow-ShowWindows(); while(true) { GUIMessagePump-ProcessMessage(); } }; BTW, everything compiles fine and when I run it, it works I just put a sleep() in the main thread so I can play with the GUI a little.

The first few lines work flawlessly in eliminating the space at the beginning each string from that array, which is stored in 'urlbase' so they look fine when they come out.
