• Hide TabControl buttons to manage multiple panels stacked

  I need to handle multiple panels, containing variuous data masks. Each panel shall be visible using a TreeView control. At this time, I handle the panels visibility manually, by making the selected one visible and bring it on top. Actually this is not much confortable, especially in the UI designer, since when I add a brand new panel I have to resize every panel and then design it... A good solution would be using a TabControl, and each panel is contained in a TabPage. But I cannot find any way to hide the TabControl buttons, since I already have a TreeView for selecting items. Another solution would be an ipotethic "StackPanelControl", where the Panels are arranged using a stack, but I couldn't find it anywhere. What's the best solution to handle this kind of UI?

• Is there a convention for organizing the include/exports in a large C++ project ?

  Hello, In a large C++ solution, is there a best/standard way to separate the include files necessary to build an intermediary DLL and the include files which will be used by the DLL clients ? We have grouped all the include files in a folder called Interface (for DLL interface), but there the customers have to either include the Interface folder as a default include folder or type the full name as: #include "ProjectName/Interface/myinterface.h" Wouldn't it be better to create a separate folder called exports where I would create a folder called ProjectName and put the include files there ? So that the customers would be typing: #include "ProjectName/myinterface.h" If I do the thing right above, then should I keep the files within the solution and produce a post build event (I use Visual Studio 2k5) to copy the files into the "export" folder (/ProjectName/) ? Or is it better to just include directly the files from this folder within my project (this is more direct and has less chances to cause maintenance issues ? I am more looking for advice than for a definite solution. Thank you for reading this ! Anthony

• How to handle Foreign key for optional field in .NET

  What is the best way to handle following situation? A dropdown(for master table) is optional in a particular form. But, In database table the field is constrained with foreign key. If user don't select from dropdown then It creates problem because of foreign key. One solution is to create default option in master table and use it in case of blank selection. but in dropdown, we need to handle this to show on top. Is it perfect solution? Consider the below cases "BKP","bkp","book-to-price" (will represent) BOOK-TO-PRICE "aop","aspect oriented program" (will represent) ASPECT-ORIENTED-PROGRAM i.e. if the user enter BKP or bkp or book-to-price , the program should treat that as BOOK-TO-PRICE. The same holds good for the second example(ASPECT-ORIENTED-PROGRAM). I have the below solution: Solution: if (str == "BKP" || str == "bkp" || str == "book-to-price" ) return "BOOK-TO-PRICE". But I think that there can be many other better solutions . Could you people please give some suggestion.(with an example will be better) I am using C#3.0 and dotnet framework 3.5

  Hello, my friend has a Real Estate company that receives a lot of phone calls everyday. He wants to have a solution such that when somebody call to his company, the operator sees all the information about the person who is calling based on the database he have right now and the caller ID.   Is there a cross browser solution to check if an element is visible using WebDriver? The solution for IE and firefox is to cast the object to a RenderedRemoteWebElement and then call the property Displayed. I'm using the following methods to return if a element is visible: /// <summary> /// Check if the control is visible. /// </summary> public bool IsVisible() { IWebElement control = mSelenium.FindElement(mFindBy); return ((RenderedRemoteWebElement)control).Displayed; } The problem is when I run this using Chrome, I get an exception when casting to type RenderedRemoteWebElement, this is not really the problem as I can catch this, but I need to a solution to check if an element is visible in chrome. • How to parse a string to an integer without library functions?

  Hi, I was recently asked this question in an interview: "How could you parse a string of the form '12345' into its integer representation 12345 without using any library functions, and regardless of language?" I thought of two answers, but the interviewer said there was a third. Here are my two solutions: Solution 1: Keep a dictionary which maps '1' = 1, '2' = 2, etc. Then parse the string one character at a time, look up the character in your dictionary, and multiply by place value. Sum the results. Solution 2: Parse the string one character at a time and subtract '0' from each character. This will give you '1' - '0' = 0x1, '2' - '0' = 0x2, etc. Again, multiply by place value and sum the results. Can anyone think of what a third solution might be? Thanks.

  Hi there, i have a problem understanding how this could/should be solved. I have two functions. In the first function ( I call it loadData() ) I'm doing an asyncronous request to the server to load some data. In the second function ( saveData() ) I'm also doing an asyn request to the server to write some data. In the callback of this request I'm callin loadData() to refresh the data. Now the problem: In the saveData() function I want to wait for loadData() to be finished bevore I show a dialog (like alert('Data saved')) I guess this is a common problem, but I couldn't find the solution for it (if there is one..) A solution would be to make the requests syncronous, but the framework I'm using doesn't offer that and I hope there's a better solution.. Thanks to all!

  Hello, I've downloaded source of an opensource C++ project. It is a Linux project. As Visual Studio is my favorite IDE I want to use it to browse & study the code. I created an empty C++ project and now want to add the source code to Solution explorer. How can I add the directory structure to "Solution Explorer". Dropping the root folder of source code on the project in solution explorer is not working. Its just adding the files to the project but directory structure is lost. Is there any way to preserve the directory structure? I do not want to recreate the directory structure manually.

• Web app implementation question.

  I would like to create a web app similar to Stack Overflow in that the users will have different "point" levels and that their capabilities within the web app will be different based upon their point level. Question: How can this best be implemented? How can it be implemented in a way that is un-hackable (i.e. accessing capabilities that should not be available)? I figure there are two ways to do this: server-side and client-side. For the server-side solution, for each page request you check who the user is and have the CGI rewrite the page so that the client only gets a web page with the intended capabilities. For the client-side solution, the server gives the client the fully capable app and it is the client's job to check the point level and to handicap the app appropriately. It seems like the client-side solution would be easier on the server, (which is really important for my app), but more susceptible to someone hacking and using capabilities unwarranted by their point level.

  I have a Web Application. Sometimes I want to debug a console app that is within the solution. Why is it that when I right click on it and select debug, it builds every single webpage and libraries, which takes a while. When I look at build dependencies for the console app, it lists everything in the solution as the order and tells me to go to build order to change it. In build order, everything checks out... I only have checked the libraries that this console app needs. I also tried setting this console app as a start up project. Same thing... How do I get it so when I want to debug this console app, it only builds that and runs instead of building the entire solution before running?

• Debug.Assert seems not to work in Mono

  Consider the following C# program: using System; using System.Diagnostics; namespace Test { class MainClass { public static void Main (string[] args) { Debug.Assert(false); Debug.Fail("fail!"); Console.WriteLine ("Hello World!"); } } } When compiling this using: dmcs -debug -d:DEBUG Main.cs and then running it with: mono --debug Main.exe the assertion and fail seem to be ignored. The output is just: Hello World! I checked other related questions on StackOverflow, but I could not find a solution. In particular the solution give in Mono - Debug.Assert does not work does not work. (UPDATE: the update solution does work, see below comments.) I use Mono 2.1.5-1 on Ubuntu 11.10.

  Hi i want to design a custom View where I need to recalculate my layout and redraw when user changes something. To force a onLayout(), the only solution that works for me until now is: onLayout(true, 0, 0, 0, 0); invalidate(); Of course that gives me a lint error and I have to add a @SuppressLint("WrongCall"). So there must be a smarter solution. Calls of forceLayout or requestLayout didn't work. Probably they only put a request on a stack but don't react immediately. As my view has no child elements and I do the drawing inside all by myself, could be I'm bypassing some Android design guides and abusing some principles. Can live with the lint error but maybe someone already found a solution. Thanks!

• Detect at runtime which country's App Store my iPhone app was downloaded from?

  I have a feature in my iPhone application that, for business reasons, should only be shown/available to customers in the US. If I want to release this app to App Stores outside the US, what's the best way to figure out which country I'm in without relying on user-defined settings such as language and locale? In my mind, the ideal solution is that there's some runtime property that can tell me which App Store country the app was downloaded from, and I can take action accordingly. Looking through the docs and searching the web, I'm not coming up with anything in this department. I don't expect the solution to be 100% foolproof as far as users not being in the country they say they're from, but as close as possible would be nice. I suppose one solution would be to make a separate build for a new product on the App Store and have two versions, one for the US and one for the others, but that doesn't seem ideal. I'm hoping it can be the same product on the App Store to prevent things like fragmentation of user reviews. Thanks in advance!

  I've been using matrix = *((fxMatrix*)&d3dMatrix); for quite a while. It worked fine until my screen turned black and received a bucket of frustration on my desk. fxMatrix contains 4 fxVectors. fxVector used to be 16 bytes, but now it was suddenly 20. This was because it inherited fxStreamable, which added the vTable. So one solution is of course just to not inherit fxStreamable, and leave a comment saying that it must always be 16 bytes and never more. Another solution would be to make conversion functions, and copy the matrix completely. This makes it more secure, but has an impact on the performance. I suppose this is the best idea. Another solution is to not convert at all, and stick to D3DXMATRIX, but this makes the engine inconsistent and I personally really dislike this idea. What is your opinion?

I however feel that, unless I can get good practice - programming in templates and use functors-callbacks there is no way I can really understand all the concepts or fluently use them while coding. Could anyone suggest some articles or books or websites where , there is a definition of the problem and also a solution to the same. I could just write code for the problem and check later on if my solution is good enough.. I am also aware that some of our stack-overflow members are experts in templates and callback functions. It would be great if they could design a problem and also post a solution , where a lot of template beginners like me could benefit.

Any solution how to fix this? Edit: My current solution is using a boolean and negate the recognizer.rotation value in handleRotate method. But I am still looking for the technical solution.

  I have seen server side proxy workarounds for retrieving rss (xmls) from cross-domains. In fact this very question addressess my same problem but gives out a different solution. I have a constraint of do not use a proxy to retrieve rss feeds. And hence the Google AJAX Feed API solution also goes out of picture. Is there a client-only workaround for this problem. JSONP is the solution for requests that respond with JSON output. But here, I have RSS feeds which can respond with pure xml . How do I solve the problem.

  I'm looking for the way to get the direct link from mediafire. By default, when a user visits a download link, he will be presented with a download page where he has to wait for the download to be processed and then a link will appear. I googled and found a VB.NET 2008 solution to this using WebBrowser WB http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=556681 It works pretty well but I'm tired of pop-up windows and the loading speed.   Yes this problem is common and I have seen numerous solution on this site but none of them were helpful. I know that re-sizing will fix the problem.   I updated jQuery latest version v1.4.2 and getting 'Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 0' this error. Is the any common fix for this. I found some solution and they are saying that when finding dimension for display none element it will give this error. Also the following fix is working for me Placing this if (!elem || elem == document) elem = document.body above this line var computedStyle = defaultView.getComputedStyle(elem, null); I am not sure this is the proper solution. I first found this bug when using jquery blockUI plugin and after updating that plugin to latest version fixed this issue. Anyone suggest me better solution for this?

• Converting Informix 'Perform' screens to a Windows-based application

  For the past several years we have slowly built an Access-based front end to access our InformixSE database (unix). Our Sun server will be shut down in a couple of months and I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive solution for porting over the remainder of our old ".per" screens to a Windows-based solution. And even for the screens that have been reprogrammed, there's nothing that beats being able to query any field on the screen like you could with those simple-to-get-up-and-running Informix "Perform" screens. Does anyone have experience with a solution?
