• Ubuntu - connecting 3rd monitor fails with "xrandr: cannot find crtc for output DVI-0"

  I've got a laptop with a DVI and VGA output on the back. With everything connected it will only allow me to run 2 of the 3 monitors e.g. laptop display + VGA or DVI+VGA but not all 3. xrandr says I have 2 CRTC's, 0 and 1. The internet says I should be able to share a CRTC if the modeline is the same, and my 2 external monitors are the exact same make and model. How do I convince the software to drive all this hardware?

• Visual studio 2008 - Find in files : lists everything twice

  In VS2008, I have a web-site project. When I use find in files and search for a string, the find results window will list every occurence twice. What could be causing this? [EDIT] Below is the screen capture from VS. I was searching for the work CommissionBucketProductID within my website project. Notice that each line is returned twice.   I was reading Jeff Atwood's blog and he mentioned that he was suffering from code-paralysis (he called it analysis paralysis, but I feel like it's also code paralysis) when he didn't have a code buddy: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/ Unfortunately I think that Jeff has set the bar a bit high, because he only works with developers who are really amazing. The only reason really amazing developers would work with me is if I was really amazing too, but sometimes I don't feel that amazing... the only thing I feel is that if I had a coding buddy I could be amazing :). I'm working on a project and I don't have many friends that are programmers, let alone friends that have time to spend on extracurricular activities. Jeff seems to have been able to find like-minded people that are actually willing to work together. I feel like I'm in a code-paralysis stage too and I need some coding buddies, where would I find some? How would I approach them?

• Cannot find Ruby on Rails installed

  I've managed to install Ruby and the gems install (rvm?) but now I'm stuck actually installing Ruby on Rails. Every time I execute, gem install rails Terminal says that it's fetching each file and that it successfully installed it: 1 gem installed However when I then run the rails command, I'm told that it's not installed and to run the gem install rails command again. I've attempted to install with sudo but the same thing happens. I've restarted after an install and that's not worked. Ideas?

  I have a Fujitsu scanner that I cannot get working on Windows 7 x64. I have downloaded both the TWAIN and ISIS x64 drivers from the fujitsu website but Windows still does not recognize. I have tried it out using GIMP and Paint.net, neither program sees the scanner. I have also tried the fi-5000N Configuration Tool from Fujitsu but to no avail.   I type in locate gmp.h at the prompt and get the following: /usr/src/linux-headers-3.13.0-24/include/linux/igmp.h /usr/src/linux-headers-3.13.0-24/include/uapi/linux/igmp.h /usr/src/linux-headers-3.13.0-24-generic/include/linux/igmp.h But when I do ls /usr/include/x86-64-linux-gnu/ I see this: a.out.h asm bits c++ fpu_control.h gmp.h gnu ieee754.h sys Why isn't locate locating /usr/include/x86-64-linux-gnu/gmp.h? edit: ls -l /usr/include/x64-64-linux-gnu/gmp.h says this: ls: cannot access /usr/include/x64-64-linux-gnu/gmp.h: No such file or diretory Why would ls /usr/include/x86-64-linux-gnu/ say it exists when ls -l /usr/include/x64-64-linux-gnu/gmp.h says it doesn't? • Postfix unable to find local server

  I'm working with postfix on fedora 9 and I'm attempting to make some changes to a system setup by my predecessor. Currently the postfix server on [mail.ourdomain.com] is setup to forward mail sent to two addresses to another server for processing. The other server [www01.ourdomain.com] receives the email and sends it to a PHP script to be processed. Then that PHP script generates and sends a response to the user who sent the original email. We're adding more web servers to the system and as a result we've decided to move these processing scripts to our admin [admin.ourdomain.com] server to make them easier to keep track of. I've already setup and tested the processing scripts on [admin.ourdomain.com], and on the mail server doing the forwarding [mail.ourdomain.com] I added [admin.ourdomain.com] to /etc/hosts and also added another, aside from the one for [www01.ourdomain.com], entry to /etc/postfix/transport for [admin.ourdomain.com]. I also restarted postfix as well. I've tested the communication from [mail.ourdomain.com] to [admin.ourdomain.com] using telnet and the [admin.ourdomain.com] domain and everything runs correctly. But as soon as I change the forward address and attempt to send an email to the mail server I get a bounce message stating "Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=admin.ourdomain.com type=A: Host not found". If I change the forward settings back to [www01.ourdomain.com] then everything works fine. Is there some setting I'm missing in Postfix? The server itself and telnet work fine it just seems to be postfix that's not able to discover the location of [admin.ourdomain.com].

• Where to find ServerName in a PHP Script

  I'm looking to retrieve the ServerName field located in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf. My only issue is then calling it in PHP (echo $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'];) it gives me not the server name but the ip address. If I pull a phpinfo(); I can the server name under the Hostname:Port field under the apache2handler, so I know it's accessible somehow.

• Mail to Mailenable group sometimes bounces back because it cannot find one of the group members

  I am using MailEnable Enterprise Edition 6.53. On one of my PostOffices I have a group address set up with 5 members in the group. Under normal circumstances when someone sends a mail to this group then the mail gets successfully forwarded to all 5 members in the group. However, every now and then when a recipient sends to the group they get a bounce back message from us that the mail could not be delivered because one of the user's addresses was not found on the server. This could happen for any one of the 5 users in the group. The error message looks like: Message could not be delivered. Error was: The email address is not available on this system The following recipient(s) could not be reached: [SF:mydomain.com/my_username] What could be causing this and how do I fix it? Obviously the mailbox DOES exist as, under normal circumstances, when someone mails the group the mail gets delivered successfully and forwarded to all group members. All the mailboxes most definitely DO exist on the system. EDIT: I have done more investigation and I see an error in Windows Event Viewer: MailEnable Database Provider error: 0 FAILURE: (SQLDriverConnect), Module: MEIMAPS.exe; Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired This seems to be related to http://forum.mailenable.com/viewtopic.php?p=53157 and http://www.mailenable.com/kb/content/view.asp?ID=ME020535 but the setups in these links use MySQL as a database whereas we use SQL Server. Maybe this shines some new light on the problem?

• Can TextMate find matching opening and closing tags?

  Something I liked in Visual Studio was that I could click an opening tag, say and it would do its best to highlight in bold the closing tag. Does anyone know if you can do that in textmate? I searched an looked but cannot find it. It gets hard to find the closing tag many DIVs deep. If TextMate won't do it, can anyone tell me an editor on Mac that will? Thank you for any help. I'd like to send back the Parent host of the guest with this monitor, How can I found out the VM host from within a ESXi VM? Ideally I'm looking for a universal way to do this from both Windows and Linux, but if they are separate paths that okay. Using something from VMWare tools would be fine, but I'm not currently using anything running the vSphere API.

I'd appreciate any tips and tricks y'all can offer on finding a reputable place to colocate our racks. Are there any Web sites with customer reviews of data centers or should I just be asking around at techie events? Are unlimited bandwidth plans a gimmick or becoming the norm? Is it worth establishing a redundant set of machines at a second data center from Day One? Or just do offsite back-ups? Thanks for your suggestions.

I also tried converting the project to 4.0 and tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 4.0 with no luck. I also tried adding the managed handler through IIS Manager's Handler Mappings. If you have time please download the source (184kb) to reproduce the problem on your own machine. The zip contains a VS2010 solution (.Net 2.0). You could also try to convert this to .Net 4.0 I am using Windows 7 anyway if that matters. If you need more details, please drop your comments below. This is working fine by the way on my webdev server.

• Easiest way to find the correct kademlia bucket

  In the Kademlia protocol node IDs are 160 bit numbers. Nodes are stored in buckets, bucket 0 stores all the nodes which have the same ID as this node except for the very last bit, bucket 1 stores all the nodes which have the same ID as this node except for the last 2 bits, and so on for all 160 buckets. What's the fastest way to find which bucket I should put a new node into? I have my buckets simply stored in an array, and need a method like so: Bucket[] buckets; //array with 160 items public Bucket GetBucket(Int160 myId, Int160 otherId) { //some stuff goes here } The obvious approach is to work down from the most significant bit, comparing bit by bit until I find a difference, I'm hoping there is a better approach based around clever bit twiddling. Practical note: My Int160 is stored in a byte array with 20 items, solutions which work well with that kind of structure will be preferred.

I noticed my connection has been slow for a while, then I checked the connection settings and was surprised there were set a proxy, but I cant see what exactly it is using. Where can I check which IP it was routing the connection for me ? Unless new firefox version has set that "system proxy" to default?

• How To Find Reasons of Why Site Goes Online/Offline

  Seems today a website I manage has been going online and offline throughout the entire day. I have no idea what is causing the issue so I am seeking guidance on where to start. It is a Wordpress based site. So here is what I DO know: I use a program that pings the server every minute and when the server is not responding me it emails me, so I can know exactly when the site is online and offline. The site between 8pm to 12pm 12.28, and around the 1a hour early morning 12.29 (New York City timezone, and all times below are in same timezone). At the time of the ups/downs I see a lot of strain on the memory usage. Look at the load average when the site is going online/offline (http://screencast.com/t/BRlfXkqrbJII). Then I ran this command to restart http (http://screencast.com/t/usVtYWZ2Qi) and the memory usage then goes down to this (http://screencast.com/t/VdTIy3bgZiQB). An hour after I restarted http, the site then went offline/online so restarting the http didn't do much help. When the site is going offline/online, I ran the top command and get this (http://screencast.com/t/zEwr7YQj3). Here is a top command when the site is at it's lowest (http://screencast.com/t/eaMfha9lbT - so this would be dubbged "normal"). Here is a bandwidth report (http://screencast.com/t/AS0h2CH1Gypq). The traffic doesn't seem to be that much (http://screencast.com/t/s7hrWNNic1K), but looking at my times the site is going up/down this may be one of the reasons? I have the dvp Nitro package at Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/). So at this point I would request some help in trying to figure out what the cause of this is, and how I can go about pinpointing this issue. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

• Software to find dependencys in a database that not have them as restrictions

  I have a database in SQL server 2005 that originaly comes fom an old mainframe. All relations was set in the surrounding software and there are non i the database. I need to find the relations, not by field name but by actual contence in the registers. (as suggestions, I realize I'l have to check them up) It would be nice with some extras, like finding motherless posts etc. but not a primary demand. There are some 200 registers with max 2 000 000 posts in any register. Does any one know of a software that can help me with this? The software I can find presuposes that relations are set in the database :(
