• Issues trying to download Windows 8.1 using official downloader

  I had been trying to download Windows 8.1 ISO from the last 3-4 days but a silly issue is preventing me to download it.As many posts over the internet explain,I tried to use generic keys to download(as I don't have Windows 8),but the installer always shows "We can't connect right now,please check you internet connection.".Isn't it silly?,I have a working internet connection.No matter whatever key I use it always ends at this message.I've tried every single generic key,and almost every key was accepted by the installer as valid,but then the message. Can anyone please explain why is this happening and any workarounds ?

  I'm using Timer-X's timerDelayCall function in order to have a repeating rotator on my page, which starts automatically as the page loads: jQuery.timerDelayCall({ interval: 2000, repeat: true, callback: function(timer) { ... (my rotator logic here) } } }); The problem is that I'm trying to make a function that includes stopping that timer: function signUp() { ... (timer stop code here) } The documentation stats that timer.stop() does that, but however I format it, I get errors about it not being declared. I have tried every variation I can think of, such as: timer.stop(); jQuery.timer.stop(); $(document).timer.stop(); jQuery.timerDelayCall({ callback: function(timer) { timer.stop() } }); I'm sure I'm missing something simple - I come from a PHP background yet I'm new to javascript - but can't see what it is exactly. • Drupal: why can't user admin access my module pages?

  I am working on a drupal 6.x module which consists of several page as defined in the .module page. The problem is that when I visit those pages as admin, I get access denied. I thought that admin (user 1) could access anything?   In objective-c you are responsible for releasing objects you allocate, but what happens when you allocate an object in a method, assign self as the objects delegate, and then release the object. The callbacks from the newly created (and released) object fails at this point, or rather, doesn't happen. - (void)doSomething { MyObj *myObj = [[MyObj alloc] init]; myObj.delegate = self; [myObj performOperation]; [myObj release]; } - (void)callbackMethodFromMyObj:(NSString *)message { NSLog(message); } I can't release the object until the callback has occurred, and I can't avoid releasing the object in the same method that creates it (because it exists outside the scope). One way of doing it would be to pass the object along in the call-back and release it in the callback, but is this the right way to go about this?

• Logitech USB keyboard driver not found on Windows 7 x64

  I have a Logitech Internet 350 Keyboard which has been working fine on my Lenovo T400 laptop for well over three years. Just within the past week or so, Windows 7 can no longer find the driver for it. There is no custom driver from Logitech for this device -- it uses the generic Windows USB HID driver. The keyboard works just fine from the BIOS (and Linux which I dual boot this machine), but Windows 7 cannot find or load the driver for it. Any ideas? I smell a Windows update problem, but have no idea how to fix it, and I really am not interested in rolling back updates. New Info: I just tested a generic Dell USB keyboard and it worked just find, with Windows immediately recognizing the device and installing the HID keyboard class driver. So, it seems that Windows has decided not to recognize my specific Logitech keyboard device. I still suspect a Windows update issue, but I would love to hear other suggestions.

Details on procedure Do note that after importing the .ova file into Virtualbox, the virtual machine is stored as a .vmdk file already, and not a .vdi file. I changed the filesystem table as mentioned in the blog, then looked at the possible "kernel optimized for virtualization". However, I found that linux-image-generic was already installed. Also, when running the command dpkg-query --showformat='${Package}\n' -W 'vmware-tools*' (or dpkg-query --showformat='${Package}\n' -W '*-virtual'), no packages were found. Thus, I did not find any virtualization specific packages. I proceeded to generate the iso following the steps in the blog, and burned it to a DVD.

  I'm writing some backend script for a twitter app and heres how it's going On the app you click a button that sends you to login.php on my server which logs into my database connects to twitter with my consumer key and secret: $to = new TwitterOAuth($consumer_key, $consumer_secret); $tok = $to->getRequestToken(); $request_link = $to->getAuthorizeURL($tok); and then writes the token and secret to the database, sets a session equal to the id in the database of the token and secret and then redirects to the "$request_link" You then go through the process of logging in and such on twitter and it redirects you to callback.php on my server Callback.php consists of logging into the database again, getting the new token and secret, and then writing the new token and secret to the database and then prompts you to go back to the app Then on the app, all I'm trying to do is access the basic credentials$to->get('account/verify_credentials') and it keeps coming back "could not authenticate you" What am I doing wrong?? • C# Asynchronous Sockets questions.

  Based on my reading and testing, with asynchronous sockets, the socket itself can be passed using state object (IAsyncResult result), also if store the socket as a private field, it would be captured by the callback methods. I am wondering how the IAysnResult is kepted between the BeginXXX and ReceiveXXX? It looks to me that after the BeginXXX call and the method ends, the state object would be disposed by GC if there is no reference to it. In the case of private field, how the private field is shared between threads? (As far as I know, a callback is executed using a thread from the default thread pool, which would be considered as a new thread.) Many thanks, hope the questions themselves are clear.

  I'm creating an admin module for my client that gives then access to some administration functionality concerning their content. All good. The behavior I want is that my client can only see the Projects section when they log in. I've accomplished this by ticking the "manage projects" permission for authenticated users. Now to give my client actual access to the Administration area I also need to tick "access administration pages" under the "system module" in the users permissions section. This works great, when I log in as my client I can only see the Projects section in the Administration area. There is one thing though, I my Navigation menu shown in the left column I can see the following items: - Administer - Projects - Content management - Site building - Site configuration - User management I was expecting only the see Administer and Projects, not the other ones. When I click e.g. Content Management I get a Content Management titled page with no options. Same for Site Building, Site Configuration and User Management. What's really odd is that Reports is not being shown which is also a top level Administration section. Why are these other items, besides my Projects section, being shown and how can I make them stop from appearing if I'm not logged in as administrator?

• ubuntu 9.10 on an external usb drive: grub1 does not work

  I have installed Ubuntu on a partition of my external usb drive. Since I had problems with grub2, I have uninstalled it and installed grub1. But then the usb drive didn't boot anymore, and I am forced to the limited shell of grub1. If I write manually kernel (hd0,4)/vmlinuz-2.6.31-15-generic root=/dev/sdb4 ro quiet splash initrd (hd0,4)/boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-15-generic boot then Ubuntu is loaded, but if I execute the commands root (hd0,4) setup (hd0) as explained at http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Installing-GRUB-natively.html#Installing-GRUB-natively, next time I boot from usb I am forced again to the grub limited shell. How can I restore a working grub?

• Millisecond-Accurate Scheduling of Future Events in C++/CLI

  I need to create a C++/CLI mixed assembly that can schedule future calls into a native DLL with millisecond accuracy. This will, of course, mean setting a timer (what kind?) for a millisecond or three beforehand, then spinning until the moment and calling the native DLL function. Based on what I've read, I would guess that the callback that the timer calls will need to be native to make sure there are no thunks or GC to delay handling the timer callback. Will the entire thread or process need to be native and CLR-free, though, or can this be done just as accurately with #pragma unmanaged or setting one file of the assembly to compile as native? If so, how? If there is indeed no way to do this in mixed-mode C++/CLI, what would be the easiest way to set up an app/thread (ie, DLL or exe?) to handle it and to get the data back and forth between the native and managed threads/apps?

• Can you use Javascript to detect a file download window created server side?

  I have a jQuery plugin I use to dynamically create and render a form on a default.aspx asp.net page, then submit it. The page it gets submitted to is a pdf.aspx page. The page builds a PDF then uses Response.Write to write the file (application/pdf) to the browser. I use the same method to render XLSX files to the browser as well. It works really great, but I need a callback or some event to tell the button when to stop spinning. This prevents the user from continuously clicking the Excel or PDF buttons. Does anyone know a way to detect the file dialog window when it was not created using javascript? I am also open to other methods of callback from the server side as well.

• Drive still usable if Seatools reports errors?

  I have a Seagate 3TB Expansion Desktop drive that was part of a Linux RAID 6 array that failed. I eventually did a zero fill both through Seagate DiscWizard and via Linux dd, neither reported errors. When I ran Seatools now, I got: Short DST - Started 5/31/2014 10:04:36 PM Short DST - Pass 5/31/2014 10:05:37 PM Long Generic - Started 5/31/2014 10:15:19 PM Bad LBA: 518242762 Not Repaired (whole bunch of bad LBAs ommited) Bad LBA: 518715255 Not Repaired Long Generic Aborted 6/1/2014 3:12:18 AM i.e. the short test passed, the long test failed. Unfortunately, the drive is out of warranty, so I can't just RMA it. But I hate tossing a drive that can still be used. So, my questions are: If the zero fill succeeded, and the short test passed, can I still use the whole drive? if not, since I'm using LVM on top of RAID, is there a way to tell either of these to just skip the bad area? If not the above, can I just create partitions before and after the part of the drive with the bad LBAs?

SetTimer(NULL, 0, 10000, (TIMERPROC) TimerCallBack); Where TimerCallBack is: static VOID CALLBACK TimerCallBack(HWND, UINT, UINT, DWORD) Now my need is to call one of the method of class which initiated timer, since TimerCallBack is static it has no access to the class object anymore. I cant find any way to pass object pointer along with the SetTimer so that I can receive it back on Callback function. Is there any other way to achieve this, if its not supported using SetTimer then which other way I can implement this.

  Assume I have a cooperative scheduler in an embedded environment. I have many processes running. I want to utilize the watchdog timer so that I can detect when a process has stopped behaving for any reason and reset the processor. In simpler applications with no RTOS I would always touch the watchdog from the main loop and this was always adequate. However, here, there are many processes that could potentially hang. What is a clean method to touch the watchdog timer periodically while ensuring that each process is in good health? I was thinking that I could provide a callback function to each process so that it could let another function, which oversees all, know it is still alive. The callback would pass a parameter which would be the tasks unique id so the overseer could determine who was calling back.

  I'm passing a method as a variable to be used as a callback. When its called, the "this" is not the object the method is a member of. How do I go about getting access to the method's object instance so I can get access to it variables and other member functions? I have no control over the callback call method, its a separate library. All I do is call the binding from my object init method.   Put simply I have an ajax call that sometimes completes before the page is loaded, so I tried wrapping the callback in $( fn ), but the callback doesn't fire if the page is loaded... • Picking photo from Photochooser or holding hardware back button cause active timers ring

  This is very strange problem, and all the people I had asked to confirm it said that it takes place. I have a Threading.Timer instance which fires every 15 minutes. And if I call the PhotoChooser view and then select a photo from it, when going back to the calling page my application calls that timer's callback! I tried different timers either it be Timer from Threading namespace or Dispatcher timer. The same happens when being in my app I hold the back button of my device and then choose the app from the list. My application is as plain as it can be - the timer with a callback and method calling PhotoChooser. Could anyone help with solution or workaround please?

• $.each - wait for jSON request before proceeding

  I have an issue with the below code: the jQuery.each is speeding on without waiting for the JSON request to finish. As a result, the 'thisVariationID' and 'thisOrderID' variables are being reset by the latest iteration of a loop before they can be used in the slower getJSON function. • Using a WPF ListView as a DataGrid

  Many people like to view data in a grid format of rows and columns. WPF did not come with a data grid control that automatically creates rows and columns for you based on the object you pass it. However, the WPF Toolkit can be downloaded from CodePlex.com that does contain a DataGrid control. This DataGrid gives you the ability to pass it a DataTable or a Collection class and it will automatically figure out the columns or properties and create all the columns for you and display the data.The DataGrid control also supports editing and many other features that you might not always need. This means that the DataGrid does take a little more time to render the data. If you want to just display data (see Figure 1) in a grid format, then a ListView works quite well for this task. Of course, you will need to create the columns for the ListView, but with just a little generic code, you can create the columns on the fly just like the WPF Toolkit’s DataGrid. Figure 1: A List of Data using a ListView A Simple ListView ControlThe XAML below is what you would use to create the ListView shown in Figure 1. However, the problem with using XAML is you have to pre-define the columns. An ADO.NET DataTable object contains a collection of columns, and these columns have a ColumnName property which you use to bind to the GridViewColumn objects. Listing 1 shows a sample of reading and XML file into a DataSet object. After reading the data a GridView object is created. You can then loop through the DataTable columns collection and create a GridViewColumn object for each column in the DataTable. Notice the DisplayMemberBinding property is set to a new Binding to the ColumnName in the DataTable. • Resolve a URL from a Partial View (ASP.NET MVC)

  Working on an ASP.NET MVC application and needed the ability to resolve a URL from a partial view. For example, I have an image I want to display, but I need to resolve the virtual path (say, ~/Content/Images/New.png) into a relative path that the browser can use, such as ../../Content/Images/New.png or /MyAppName/Content/Images/New.png. Astandard view derives from the System.Web.UI.Page class, meaning you have access to the ResolveUrl and ResolveClientUrl methods. Consequently, you can write markup/code like the following:' /The problem is that the above code does not work as expected in a partial view. What's a little confusing is that while the above code compiles and the page, when visited through a browser, renders, the call to Page.ResolveClientUrl returns precisely what you pass in, ~/Content/Images/New.png, in this instance. The browser doesn't know what to do with ~, it presumes it's part of the URL, so it sends the request to the server for the image with the ~ in the URL, which results in a broken image.I did a bit of searching online and found this handy tip from Stephen Walther - Using ResolveUrl in an HTML Helper. In a nutshell, Stephen shows how to create an extension method for the HtmlHelper class that uses the UrlHelper class to resolve a URL. Specifically, Stephen shows how to add an Image extension method to HtmlHelper. I incorporated Stephen's code into my codebase and also created a more generic extension method, which I named ResolveUrl.public static MvcHtmlString ResolveUrl(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper, string url) { var urlHelper = new UrlHelper(htmlHelper.ViewContext.RequestContext); return MvcHtmlString.Create(urlHelper.Content(url)); }With this method in place you can resolve a URL in a partial view like so:' /Or you could use Stephen's Html.Image extension method (althoughmy more generic Html.ResolveUrl method could be used in non-image related scenarios where you needed to get a relative URL from a virtual one in a partial view).
